This is one of the best reference books about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that you can get nowadays in the market!
It's a comprehensive guide to ALL the spells (well, maybe not all, all, but having moren than 240 spells, I can tell you that it's the closest thing that you'll ever find around) used in ALL media about Harry Potter, not only novels (the core seven books along with the theater's adaptation of The Cursed Child) or movies (even there is a spell from a deleted scene from Deathly Hallows, Part 1), but also the video games (regular ones and LEGO versions), the trading card game and even tie-in official books (like Quidditch through the Ages) and JK Rowling's website...
...and the best is that it's updated to date (it was published around middle 2019), therefore including even The Crimes of Grindelwald film...
...so, it's easily the most updated Harry Potter reference book around nowadays (March 2020).
SECTUMSEMPRA
The book is in gorgeous hardcover, fine paper and using an additional purple ink to avoid being merely in black-and-white. Since it's an "unofficial" book, you won't find any picture but besides that, I can assure that the book has a charming (pun intended) presentation.
The book is so complete that you'll find along with the spells, also you'll find a guide to the different kind of woods and cores' materials used for wands.
The spells are in alphabetical order, but divided in three major sections: Spells (including counter-spells, healing spells, transfigurations, conjurations), Charms, and Curses, Hexes & Jinxes, but also a further section for Enchanted Objects.
You'll have a detailed explanation of each spell, including for what it's used, if required a pronunciation (along with a translation, since many are in Latin), or indicating that it's a non-verbal one, along with a visual graphic showing if it's required certain movement of hand using the wand. Moreover, indicating a "Magic Moment" (a moment when the said spell was used in a book, movie, video game, etc...), and going beyond with notes revealing even more context information about each spell, and even "hand-written" notes (very much like in the way of Half-Blood Prince).
Also, while it's alphabetical (per section), inside of Enchanted Objects, if some objects share a common topic (like The Deathly Hallows or the sports implements for Quidditch), those said objects are found in an easy to grasp entry.
So...
...if you didn't get your invitation letter for a Magical School or you don't want to wait seven years to learn all the spells...
...this book is a "must-have" one for any Harry Potter fan!
This book is full of essential information for a Potterhead like me. I have to say that there are some technicalities, but nothing too hard to understand. It teaches us about spells, charms, curses, hexes, jinxes, and enchanted objects.
Spells are all known counter-spells, healing spells, transfiguration spells, and otherwise uncategorized spells in the wizarding world. It tells us about the incredible information you can do with them or historical mentionings from Harry Potter that, at least I didn’t know. For example, Albus Dumbledore can detect Harry’s presence under his Invisibility Cloak with a nonverbal version of Homenum Revelio (used to reveal human presence), when this spell requires a wand. Also, did you know that some of the very most famous and most used spells were invented by Severus Snape? Like Liberacorpus (to counteract Levicorpus, resulting in a target’s body no longer being suspended in the air), Levicorpus (to hoist a target in the air by the ankle), Langlock (to make a target’s tongue stick to the roof of their mouth), Toenail-Growth Hex, etc.
Charms require precise wand movements, correct pronunciation, and absolute concentration to be successful. One of these is the Expecto Patronum (did you know that can defend against creatures but also can send messages?).
Generally speaking, jinxes are annoying, hexes are a little more annoying and curses are the darkest forms of magic. For me, the most interesting mentioned is the one Hermione did, which causes pimples that spell SNEAK across the face of the traitor of Dumbledore’s Army. This jinx is extremely powerful, as neither Madam Pomfrey nor Dolores Umbridge can reverse it.
Last but not least are the enchanted objects. It talks about the Master of Death, who is the owner of the Elder Wand (perform impossible feats of magic and defeat all other wands), Resurrection Stone (return a loved one’s spirit from beyond the grave), and the Cloak of Invisibility.
The book leaves you speechless with the amount of unique information. So much to process but so delighted to do it.
Skoro szkoła magii to i zaklęcia, prawda?
Come to the magical world of Harry Potter with this wonderful spellbook~
First up a big thank you to my husband for giving me this for Christmas. This was high on my wishlist when I discovered it in November/December and just needed it in my life. I am a big Harry Potter fan and this seemed like a perfect book to add to my collection.
The book is separated in sections in which we learn about various spells. For instance you can learn all about charms, but you can also learn jinxes and hexes. There are cute spells, easy spells, household spells, and spells one probably shouldn't be using EVER (and I love that the book mentions that). I had fun spotting the spells I know so well, but also discovering some new ones. Yes, new spells. I haven't watched that Fantastic Beasts movie (and not sure if I ever will) nor have I played all the games (just the LEGO ones). So I was definitely delighted with some new spells in my life and finding out what they do and how to use them.
Yes, this book is filled to the brim, but it isn't just a list of spells. Oh no. Almost all the spells have a pronunciation, when/where it was used (and this ranges from the books to the movies to the games (even the trading card game)), a what it does field (handy to know), and there is some extra trivia listed which I just loved to read. Then, to make it more personal, there are things scrawled near some of the spells or magical objects, listing why something wasn't a good idea, give us some more insight, and more.
There is one last chapter and that is about magical objects. It was a bit sparse, especially given how many spells there are, but I can forgive them, the book is about spells, not about magic objects per se. Though I would definitely want a guide of that.
I love how the book looks, it does give it the feel of a real spellbook.
I would highly recommend this book to any Harry Potter fan. But be warned. It does contain spoilers for the series and also Fantastic Beasts.
This was super super cute. I loved the addition of handwritten notes and spell casting techniques. It really felt real. I felt like I was taking a lesson on spells, but it was engaging and fun- not boring. This book is also really pretty and everything is purple! So glad to have added this to my collection and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The little notes in the margins/empty spaces nudged this book into 4 stars- they were quite funny. The book itself is a fun list of all the spells/jinxes/curses/ect. mentioned/used in the Harry Potter books and games. I have no idea if it actually contains all of them definitely, as I have not bothered to check, but still, it's a rather exhaustive list either way. I can see it being a good resource for Harry Potter fanfiction, or Harry Potter trivia. I gotta tell you, I was in need of this book a few weekends ago when I was playing Harry Potter trivia and got some obscure questions on spellwork and curses. So now, I guess I'll have to study in order to become a Harry Potter trivia champion. Either way, most Harry Potter nerds will enjoy this, but only if you're on the nerdier side of the spectrum. The garden variety fan will probably not see the want/need to own this, but may enjoy paging through it if you find it in a cafe or library. As I find anything Harry Potter related, I enjoyed this.
I love this book!! As someone who has always loved the harry potter books this gave me plenty of backround knowledge about Harry Potter. I loved how it had scribbles and edits but I would of loved more of those. The last chapter, Magical objects, was my favourite. I always thought books like this are for nerds but now I realise I am a complete harry potter nerd and I am so pround of that.
My fave harry potter charcters are: ~ Harry (of course) ~ Ginny ~ Hermonine ~ Luna (My favourite)
So pls friend me if you love harry potter because I would love to talk to you about it
A collection of spells, charms, curses, and magical objects found in the Harry Potter world. Great item for fans. Very glad it's part of my collection.

Ta nietypowa książka, wydana w piękny i elegancki sposób, zawiera informacje o zaklęciach, urokach i klątwach związanych z magicznym światem najsławniejszego czarodzieja. Świata znanego z książek, filmów, a nawet gier karcianych i gier komputerowych.
This is the ultimate Potterhead book to have on hand! If you want a peek into all the spells/charms and a behind the scenes look at the little details of The Wizarding World, this is a fun little guide to have! It tells you about different wands, charms and little notes on where each was used (the book, movie, the card game or the video game). A really fun book!
I seriously don't care that I spent two hours reading this book full of spells! I GOT A FREE WAND WITH IT!!!!!! So, I practiced all the spells! It doesn't only have spells in it, it has wand woods and wand cores, magical items, and jinxes, curses, and hexes! It's not a 'fun' read, but a highly enjoyable one!
This book was purchased to be added to the Harry Potter collection at the St. Joseph's School in Chehalis, WA. This review is based off of comments of the children who welcomed it: "Fantastic", "Can I read it first?", "This book is beautiful." I'd say it was a winner.
Have you ever wanted a handy little resource to look up any spell in the Wizarding World? Look no further 🤩
I LOVE this book! It is so incredibly nifty. Like the title says, it has every spell, charm, curse, jinx, and hex mentioned throughout the Harry Potter books, movies, video games, and more, including the FBAWTFT series.
Each spell has its type, pronunciation, use, etymology, and wand movement (if applicable) listed. There are also notes about the spell as well as a memorable moment when the spell was used in the Harry Potter universe.
There’s also a bit on nonverbal spells and wandless spells, wandlore (including wand woods and cores), and a catalog of enchanted objects!
This was a quick but enjoyable read! I would definitely recommend for any Harry Potter lover or collector!
I really enjoyed this book!! It was super fun to remember some of these spells from the books and movies, and it was also fun to learn some new spells I didn’t know yet! I love that it was sectioned and that it was detailed enough to educate you on each entry, but not too much to where it became a slow read. It really does feel like a Wizarding World reference book, and it’ll be a fun one to own not only for your collection, but to flip through and read up on the different topics covered in this book!
What can I say, I see something Harry Potter related and I buy it. But honestly this was a nice quick fun read.
This book has information on the entirety of the spells and magical items used throughout the Harry Potter Universe with references to the books, films and video game adaptations.
I would only recommend if you are a hardcore Harry Potter fan
I found this book interesting and informative. But I wish there was more information on the sections about enchanted objects and wand cores. Also would like more explanation on wand movements with the spells. I actually enjoyed reading this book and would recommend any Harry Potter fan read this. ⚡️
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Comprehensive list, with some stretches to include those from the video games or those seen in a movie with no information attached ( see "Albus Dumbledores forceful spell" entry).
Interesting information on the etymology of the spells and pretty to look at.
