Raahat's beautifully illustrated book tells the story of Bat & Co. and highlights the importance of being open-minded and not passing judgement on those who are different from us before actually meeting them. It's a very important message told through the signature warm and adorable drawings that Raahat's instagram followers know so well. I'm Not Scary is a fantastic debut so, in this case, do judge the book by it's stunning cover and buy it for all the little ones you know!! <3

Kinderbuch Rezension

Alles Gute, eure Jassy!

Sweet illustrations and a cute autumnal tale about a misunderstood bat. I did have trouble with the bear having a name when none of the other animals did, not even Bat, who was the main character.

Mein Bilderbuch-Highlight 2022!

A scary monster. A brave bear. A little bat. A lot of cakes!

Wholesome.
I’ve been trying to think of a one word summary for this book and its got to be: ‘wholesome’.

It’s like the reading equivalent of watching an episode of the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
(Just to make it abundantly clear-this is a GOOD thing!)

Start with a unique and cute collection of wonderfully illustrated characters.
Add a pinch of adversity and simmer until the tension of collective misunderstanding bubbles.
Throw in the warmth of a moonlight magical Autumnal forest.
Take the smells of homemade apple pies, warm fresh bread, blueberry muffins.
Sprinkle in some bravery and common ground and voila, you have a warm tale of friendship and food!

It’s a winning recipe that Raahat has created and I can’t wait to share it this Autumn!

Honestly, it is so real that for the whole book everyone is talking about the bat as if it were a big, scary monster that eats bears. Poor bats man. I do wish they would have given the bat a name though.

I found this book on a super quick Target run that I didn't want to go on because I wasn't feeling well. Usually, this means just essentials but when I passed this book on my way out, it became an essential. A book about a bat? Being NOT scary? Foiled cover? I was so in.

The illustrations feel like Little Bear but modern. I don't know what to tell you other than it's just vibes. You're happy, calm, and content looking at them. They're watercolor-y and wonderful and fun.

Really cute story, not all that deep, but a short pleasant read I'd be happy to visit again.

Have you ever been gossiped about of things that were not true about you? This poor little bat gets the reputation of being a monster. What is a little bat to do when he has no friends? Well, bake of course and hope for the best.

This story clearly illustrates how with a little effort, you can get to know someone else that is not like you, but you can still be friends with. It also shows how gossiping can lead to misunderstanding. Even the littlest of children can get the simple concepts of this book.

I loved the story line juxtaposed with the larger-than-life illustrations with all the autumn colors you would expect for the season.

I give this book 4 pumpkins.

This is such an adorable picture book!
Gorgeous illustrations and a lovely story about friendship and overcoming prejudices.

Fredo, a little bat, is on a heartwarming journey to make friends. However, the other animals, misled by fear, see him as a monster lurking in the forest. When Betty the bear stumbles upon his tree, she discovers that he is not only not scary but also loves to bake.

I did love the idea of a baking bat, especially since I am a sucker for bats (hehe, yes, I managed to put a vampyre joke in there). The only negative is the choice of font, which is hard to read and does not tie in with the illustrations as well as it could.

This story is a perfect conversation starter about the dangers of prejudices and the beauty of acceptance. Cute!

This sweet Muslim authored book adorably shares a story about a bat who loves to bake, and forest creatures that fear him, calling him a monster. When little Beattie stumbles on the gnarly oak tree where the monster lives, she is surprised to find a baking bat anxious to have visitors, friends, and someone to share with. A beautiful message for toddlers to early elementary. There is no religion in the book, and notably nothing about Halloween. The book is set in the fall, but it it universal and timeless. The illustrations are sweet and engaging, and the book an easy read in groups at story time or one-on-one at bedtime.

This is a classic "don't judge a book by it's cover" tale involving an adorable bat and all sorts of cute, forest animals. Everyone is so afraid of Bat and the stories they've heard about a "monster" in the forest; they don't take the chance to get to know him. The story is the journey it takes for everyone to learn a little about one another.

It was a colorful story with vivid artwork that really transports you into the world of the forest. The characters in the story were fun, and it was an all around enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that loves bats or just wants a cute autumn vibes story.

This book is adorable and my 4 year old daughter, who is currently going through a love for all things spooky phase absolutely adored this read. Right after our nighttime first readthrough, she wanted me to read it AGAIN.
This is a cute short little picture book, that conveys a message of not jumping to conclusions based on fear and assumptions. That just because something seems spooky, doesn't mean it is a danger, and you may be missing out on delicious pies and pastries, as well as friendship.

Bat would like to make friends, but the other animals are afraid of him.

This picture book addresses how preconceived ideas are often incorrect. It shows that it is possible to befriend — or share common interests with — someone very different from oneself. It also demonstrates how food can act as a social lubricant.

A very sweet little bat tries to dispel rumors that he is a scary monster. All the other animals are afraid to come near his home, until one day a new friend comes. Sweet autumnal illustrations. A good seasonal read that is not holiday specific.
