This book was just very boring, I only got to page 83 until I put it down. I just didn't care about any of the characters too much to read further, and I could tell early on that the focus on religion was going to annoy me. This one went to the didn't finish pile.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for allowing me to give my honest review. About Sister Friends Forever.

Sister Friends Forever is a book about 4 Friends who are in different aspects of their lives. Serena is the single friend who recently found out her boyfriend of a year was cheating and she feels that she is getting close to the age where she should be married.

Lynette is recently divorced and is trying to figure out what her new life for her and her daughters are going to be. She learns a lot about the Marriage that she had as well as how her daughters feels about their father.

Michelle is engaged to be married and is struggling between if she should get married to her fiancé or if she should go with a guy from her past.

Kenya is happily Married but has to deal with a crazy baby mama from her husband’s previous marriage and he just want to see his son.

Through all the things that they have going on one thing that remains is their friendship. They were their for ever twist and turn of each other’s lives. This book teaches about love, friendship and finding who you are.

I am a huge Kimberla Lawson Roby Fan and this book did not disappoint.

Lawson Roby has been turning out masterpieces since I can remember, and here in 2022 she is still dazzling us with her creativity.
Sister Friends Forever follows the lives of 4 best friends, Kenya, Michelle, Lynette, and Serena, who have known one another since they were small. Although their lives have been different, it was the church that brought them together all those years ago. Now here they are 40 years old, and each of course has their own life, however with that life, comes hardship and problems. Right now, each can use their sister Friends help.
So, as we are navigating through each friend’s life and love differently, we see:
Kenya and her husband dealing with issues with his son. As they deal with the drama that is coming from his psychotic ex-wife and how Kenya has to deal with that. Now Lawson Roby could have widened this scope a bit, because many women have to deal with the crazy ex-wife, or crazy ex-girlfriend, so she really could have garnered a teaching moment on this one.
Then we have Michelle, who cannot decide who to choose and whether she should get married or not.
Then theirs Lynette who has just returned to the dating world after her divorce. And last, we have poor Serena who just found out she has been cheated on.
What makes Sister Friends Forever a solid book is that through it all, each friend is there for one another. There was not any of the messy between friends’ drama, but an empowerment between friends. As others have said it definitely gave me a “Waiting to Exhale” vibe.
However, Lawson Roby will and has always found her own niche no matter to whom compared. Besides, I am quite certain being compared to McMillian is a huge compliment and vice versa.
Thank you NetGalley, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Grand Central Publishing for this digital ARC. Review is of my own volition.

Tyler Perry & Oprah if you’re looking for your next movie or show this is it!! 😂😂😂
This book is about 4 women who’ve been best friends since they where kids. I couldn’t Relate to none of these women most likely because they are all 40. I’m still young & turnt lol. It kinda reminded me of the show Girlfriends just add more Christianity & I mean heavy on the Christianity this book mentions God a whole lot.

It was a little predictable I guessed a couple of things before it happened. This wasn’t a bad book by any means but I could’ve went my whole life not reading this! Beautiful cover though.😁

I could’ve gone my whole life without reading this book. I should’ve counted the number of times the word “celibate” or “celibacy” was used. This was a Baptist church sermon disguised as a novel.

I love a good book about friends and when I saw that Kimberla Lawson Roby’s novel SISTER FRIENDS FOREVER was to be released in 2022, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. The novel centers around four friends: Serena, Michelle, Kenya and Lynette. They are all in their early forties and have known each other since elementary school. Serena and Michelle have taken a vow of celibacy after attending a church conference. Serena is questioning if she will find her Mr. Right as Michelle will soon be united in marriage to her fiance in a few short months. Kenya is happily married with two children. All is perfect in her world with the exception of her husband’s baby mama from hell. Lynette is recently divorced with two teen daughters. She is attempting to rebuild and move on after her divorce with a few interruptions from her ex-husband. With each of them navigating through unexpected situations, their friendship is the one thing they can all count on.

SISTER FRIENDS FOREVER is an interesting and fast-paced read. The plot kept my interest with the surprises and drama. I was invested and I wanted to see how each of their situations played out. The characters could have been fleshed out more because I didn’t feel the chemistry within the friendships from the ladies, it felt more like four women who know each other and meet up from time to time. Despite the lack of camaraderie, I enjoyed the time I spent with these ladies.

DNF.

I got to page 25. I think the character storylines aren’t bad but the mentioning of God every other page is distracting.

Faith and how one relates and/or is shaped by it can be central in a novel. However, this done heavy handed.

bad writing, horrible on character development

The writing was horrible. The women in the book are 40 but are speaking like they are 60+. For a book called sister friends there is nothing sisterly about this book. It’s all focused on their messed up relationships with men. It never explores the complex beauty of female friendship. Don’t waste your time reading this .

“Sister Friends Forever” is the first novel that I have read by Kimberla Roby Lawson. I love novels that focus on friends who pull you through the worst, and this story was a good example of that. The friendship in question is the one of Serena, Michelle, Kenya and Lynette who have known each other since childhood. Here, the women are each facing a pivotal point in their lives.

I thought the author did a great job of understanding the angst of growing older but understanding better what matters most. This was a quick read—I liken it to a refreshing popsicle on a hot summer day. I certainly will return to this writer's backliist to read her other titles.

Three and a half stars.

I absolutely looooove Kimberla’s writing she never disappoints me. Her books are always centered around God and faith yet she still gives us the messy drama many of us crave. I always say she writes the perfect church folk messy drama stories.

Sister Friends Forever follows four best friends all dealing with something personal within their lives or relationships. Serena who is now divorced after dealing with a cheating husband questions why she still hasn’t found love. But when she finally meets someone of course she nearly ruins what could be before it even begins. Michelle is engaged to a man with long money but when an old flame is back in the picture getting married is the furthest thing from her mind. Kenya’s situation was CRAZY cause Robert’s ex-wife would’ve had me sooooo messed up‼️ Then we have Lynette and all I can say is her ex-husband Julian got a whole lot of audacity.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this one it was the perfect balance of love and drama. The character development was also great. All of the characters felt authentic and their personal relationship struggles felt realistic and relatable. Focusing on themes of personal growth, letting love find you, faith, and friendship if you loved Waiting to Exhale you’ll enjoy reading this book.

Kimberla Lawson Roby is back with a new novel and new characters. I've been reading her work for years now. I think her fans will be pleased with Sister Friends. Roby sticks to her drama, religion, family, and friendship formula. It works for her.

I didn't love this book, but it is a decent read. I enjoyed the tiny nuggets of wisdom regarding health and wellbeing. I also enjoyed reading about middle and upper-class black women. The four main characters are educated, have careers and are family oriented.

Roby's books are always heavy on religion, so I don't hold that against her. Her characters make awful choices, all in the name of the Lord. They are holier than thou until a woman threatens their marriage or relationship, and then the mudslinging commences. These lovely Christian characters don't take issue with calling women whores.

Sister Friends heavily emphasizes the importance of being partnered. These women don't believe in getting to know a man. They want proposals after six months, which is probably why they find themselves in ridiculous situations. I wish at least one character could've illustrated the pros of being single and how that time can be used for self-development and growth.

I'm not going to delve too deeply into that. Overall, this was a quick and somewhat fun read.

I enjoyed reading about Sister Friends, Kenya, Lynette, Michelle and Serena. Of course they had their own stories within this novel and I was intrigued by each. I looked forward to their outcomes, and read the book within a few days.

Kenya and her husband had ugly drama problems concerning his son with his ex wife. I really wanted to see how she managed the extra obstacles that came along with his previous relationship and unresolved issues.

As for newly divorced Lynette; I figured this would be a love story, and simply wondered if/how she would be able to get back into dating.

Michelle’s story of trying to decide which relationship was best, considering all her concerns that revolved around everyone else did peak my interest the most.

Like Lynette, single Serena’s story was interesting because it touched on some expectations when pursuing a relationship and gave a little background as to what qualities were important and why.

I believe all their stories are relatable in many aspects for women. I definitely recommend this novel for my girlfriends.

This book was a prize Giveaway via Goodreads and I appreciate the opportunity to provide my thoughts.

This was my first time reading anything by Kimberla Roby and I must say this book actually exceeded my expectations. From the first page I was intrigued and could barely put it down.

Sister Friends Forever follows 4 best friends Serena, Michelle, Lynette, and Kenya who has their own unique story that can be related to in some way. Although they all have different lives/stories they still come together each month to talk and have fellowship. One thing that I liked about their friendship was regardless of how bad things might’ve gotten within the lives they always made time to connect and be transparent with one another; no matter how hard it was. Their connection showed the true meaning of friendship and what it means to bare your friend burdens no matter how stupid the decisions may be.

Can I be honest though out of all the ladies, Michelle made me frustrated THE MOST. I understand that “you cannot help who you love” — but girl leaving your fiancé for someone you were dating in college was a bit much. Chris was a good dude and didn’t deserve that AT ALL.

All in all, I enjoyed this book. It was a quick fun read.

Well…

This story missed the mark. This story follows 4 sister-friends Serena, Lynette, Kenya, and Michelle that are life long friends, 40, and at various stages in life. It’s titled Sister Friends Forever but the story didn’t make me believe in their sisterhood, bond,or vibe.

These women were acting like girls still in college(except for Kenya). Michelle was the most annoying, she almost made me stop reading the book.
The book ended with with no real conclusion, but picks up one year later in the epilogue.

The characters stories are full they all have a lot going on but it was lacking a connection between them that I assumed was the point of the story. Most of the story took place in their heads or “a telling” and not with each other. The women had moments together a routine if you will but It never felt like a true bond. I would have rather read a full story of Kenya and her Husbands messy ex wife. I listened to the audio and the narrators were 🥴

The cover is beautiful.

This book really knocked me around. I stayed up super late because I had to see how each friend’s story turned out. Serena, Michelle, Kenya, and Lynette are true friends, sisters even. They see each other through trials and joys. I’ve always liked reading about sisters and friends.
I took a dislike to Serena immediately. Her condescending attitude was so elitist, I couldn’t stomach it.
I physically hurt while reading Michelle’s train wreck, I felt so bad for Chris, really really bad and came to dislike Michelle as much as I disliked Serena.
Lynette and Kenya, I liked, and wow, what twists to their stories. There was a lot about faith in the book, which depending on your views, could be an enhancement or a distraction.
It’s a full emotional spectrum read.
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the early read.

In Sister Friends Forever, we meet Serena, Michelle, Kenya and Lynette who have been friends since childhood. They have been there for each other through crucial times in their lives but each of the friends are about to face situations that will either bring them apart or knit them even closer together.

I have been a Kimberla fan for years!! I believe I have read all of her books. When it comes to female friendships and drama this book has tons. I finished this story really quickly and I enjoyed seeing the women support each other through all their hardships.

Sister Friends Forever by Kimberla Lawson Roby
8 hrs & 47 mins narrated by Maria Howell, Mela Lee, Stacey Singleton, and Inger Tudor, 336 pages Hardcover

Genre: Adult Fiction, Contemporary, Women's Fiction > Chick Lit

Featuring: Friendships, Man Problems, Multiple POVs, Quadragenarians, Illinois, Drama, Dhar Mann Moment, Infidelity, Christianity, Sex - off camera, Material Girls, Here's What Happened

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

Songs for the soundtrack: "Girl" by Destiny's Child "Count On Me" by Whitney Houston and CeCe Winans

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 3% 14:35 Ch. 2 - I'm going to go back to bed but I'm eager to learn how this divorced stay-at-home mom of teens thing happened. I assume her ex is a baller.
📱41% 3:37:01 Ch. 19 - Meh! If it wasn't for the 9 people waiting for this book I would take a long pause now. This isn't as well written as previous books, way too much exposition, summarizing, and out of order to boot, so there's confusion. The other issue is there are 4 narrators and 2 aren't to my liking. The plot itself is very Waiting To Exhale with more drama and no emotion.
📱69% 6:01:48 Ch. 33 - So frustrating, all of this drama and low details. 😑

This book was a lot of telling with almost no showing and tons of skipping around. Multiple times characters were telling other characters about drama and I thought I missed something only for the next chapter to play rewind and tell details about the drama. She also did the for the last 3 weeks this has been going on without telling or showing what let to it. The wrap up was boring. It was like Kimberla had an outline for a good story but got tired of writing the book and used the outline as filler. I have read several books by her so I know she could have knocked this plot out of the park if she took the time.

Recommend to others?: Maybe. If you don't mind tons of exposition and you love drama it's not bad, if you prefer dialogue and action you may want to skip this one.

I haven't read a Kimberla Lawson Roby book in years and I was excited to read this book. The excitement quickly evaporated. In a nutshell, the book was boring. Michelle and Serena worked my last nerve.
Michelle: Pissed me off from her very first chapter. Just dumb. She's the reason why it took me forever to finish this book. Who has sex with their man one time and decides it's never going to get better? At least give it another shot before you write him off completely. A 40-year-old dumb liar who let her parents control her thoughts and actions.
Serena: Another dummy. She's celibate and making God a priority in her life but a God-fearing man wasn't on her checklist? Just a six-figure salary and well educated. How sis, how? SMDH She is shallow and dumb. She claimed she loved Jake but she still kept comparing him to her checklist. I expected Kimberla to show growth in Serena's character but it was only minor growth. Disappointing. Another dumb thing was she couldn't stand her sister because she bragged about clothes from her father as a child. Chick, you're 40. WTH?
Lynette: - Loved her and her kids. Her ex got what he deserved for cheating on her. I knew Emmett was too good to be true but I didn't expect what happened at the end of the book. Whoa.
Kenya: Loved her too. I don't how she put up with Terri's crap. She's a better woman than me because Terri would have gotten these hands.

I love how Kimberla tackles inspirational and religious issues in her books. It's one of the many reasons why I love her as an author. This is my least favorite book of hers. There were too many parts where the story dragged. JMO

I thought this book would be about female friendships but instead we got a book about: God, celibacy and the woes of dating a man without a college degree.

Literally an awfully written book with an awfully frivolous and stupid set of characters and useless plot.

So much telling, not showing.. Everyone needs to announce their whole backstory in every conversation and over-explain themselves to ridiculous extents and yet the characters still manage to misunderstand each other.

I wish I could unread this

I really enjoyed this novel. However, the narration was not good, it was so over the top. I had to look pass the narrating if not I wouldn't have enjoyed this book .Kimberla Lawson Roby always has a good message in her books. If you're not a Christian you may not enjoy the bible references however, I'm a Christian and I do enjoy them. Sometimes there are a few "ouch" moments for me...LOL

Something about this whole book felt unrealistic to me. The conversations, the relationships, the ENTIRE STORYLINE! Every single person turned out to be rich, there were two characters who found out they weren’t actually the fathers of their children…etc. Just wasn’t my favorite but at least the characters were black!

I’ve never read a book, jammed packed with drama, as boring as this.

I honestly don’t even understand the purpose of this story. The characters sucked. Why are the four best friends, best friends? They don’t even seem to like each other. Where was the bonding?! How did we get here? The situations these women found themselves in and how they chose to handle them….where is the Jesus in you? I didn’t see him, but supposedly all you need is celibacy.

Highly disappointed. Cute cover though.

This was a cute book. The four friends have a great relationship and their stories were kind of wild. Lynette and Everette was crazy, Michelle really pissed me off, Kenya and her family are so cute and I’m glad that everything worked out for them and Bobby. Serena and Jake are cute. I’m glad that she got over her biases and finally found love.

Sister Friends Forever is about Four different ladies that have been friends since they were little and met at church and remained close friends up into their adult lives.

Michelle, Kenya, Serena and Lynette are all going through different issues, and they will need each other to get through.

I was very excited to here that this author had decided to release another fiction book and It was well worth the wait, these ladies had a lot going on and I enjoyed every bit of it. This book was very relatable to things going on in Women’s lives in this day and time. Mrs Roby did a great job introducing us to each character and navigating through their lives.
