5 stars for Rhoda's story itself (she was a simple woman who suffered many health problems and became a religious visionary and stigmatist, and brought many people to God), 2.5 for the writing (it reads like this was put together in a bit of a hurry and maybe didn't have the best editor). Definitely recommend for fellow Catholics, though, especially those who have suffered long illnesses.
This book was very nice. It reminded me of a biblical narrative or one of the testament works from the Old Testament Pseudepigrapha in that it was part history, part Catholic legend. Anyway, I liked getting to know Rhoda Wise. She was pure of heart in terms of her Catholic faith, and she was courageous in the face of cancer and all kinds of other serious health problems. Despite her all too real suffering, she cared about others and is said to have healed countless afflicted peoples. Chapter 11 provides the basic idea of her life: "In return for the great love Jesus had shown her, she longed to suffer in order to buy back souls who were wandering or lost to Him." And that she did.
I knew very little about this lady whose cause has been officially opened for sainthood. This biography was mainly obtained through letters that Mrs. Wise had written to Monsignor Habig out of obedience. It was well written and informative. Since her home and shrine are not too far from my home, I will be traveling there soon, I hope!
Wonderful short book about Servant of God, Rhoda Wise. She was a mystic and a woman who suffered terribly for years, for conversions and priests. She had visits from Jesus and St. Therese of Lisieux and the stigmata. Her cause has been submitted for beatification.
Amazing story of this Canton, Ohio housewife. Definitely worth the read and to ask for her intercession.
This is a fantastic story. It is very chilling, yet beautiful. Rhoda Wise will forever be a saint in spirit, even if she was never canonized officially. I will continue to pray for this, so her story may be heard more.
A lovely story about a rather recent woman in history who experienced suffering and healing. I enjoyed reading parts of her diary, poems she wrote and looking at the photos. The information was poorly put together, so many details are random and not explained. This book needs edited and rewritten.
Good to know more about Rhoda Wise, a lady who lived a simple life and received great gifts from God. This biography is quite short and readable, unlike many biographies of persons up for sainthood. Rhoda had to overcome so much just to have a relatively normal homelife and practice her chosen religion. I hope she is canonized one day.
