I’ve wanted to write books for adults for as long as I can remember but I was too scared to try. One day I decided to be brave and dipped a toe into the bubble bath of romantic comedy with my first novella, Cupidity, and I’ve never looked back. I often try to be funny to be funny, except for when faced with traffic wardens and border control staff. My favourite thing is making people smile.
I’ve tried many jobs over the years, from barmaid to market researcher and I even had a brief flirtation with modelling. These days I am mostly found writing.
I live near London with my grey tabby cat, Portia. We both have an unhealthy obsession with Marmite.
A new series from Holly Hepburn set in Orkney? I am in heaven. I was eagerly anticipating this read hitting my kindle on release day (today) and did not disappoint, let me tell you. I loved meeting all the new characters, the new setting and I cannot wait to see what is going to happen with possible dramas and romances as this series progresses.
Merry is such a great character to kick this series off with. She has had some trauma, that we find out all about in the prologue, and now she needs to get away from it all and get over her writers block to what better way to tackle that than fly far far away somewhere remote care of a wonderful library and librarian? I really loved spending time with Merry, She is very relatable and very open to possibility. She also has flaws which makes her easy to identify with. I can't wait to see how she grows as this series progresses.
Then we have this epic new setting. I love that fact that way up there in Orkney we get such wonderful views and scenery as well as remoteness and the wild coast. I love that fact that this area is getting some love because there is such possibility in this part of the world and not enough people show it off in the pages of a book like Holly Hepburn is doing here. I'm looking forward to exploring the bay a little more as the weather improves and also getting to know the community and the library that lies therein.
A whole cast of characters are introduced in this instalment and I am sure that there are plenty more to come and we continue with the series but I already recognise Sheila (and love her) and I am just so intrigued by Magnús and Niall. I can't wait to read more about them.
This series is shaping up to be another winner from Holly Hepburn. I have all four books on pre-order so now all I have to do is wait with baited breath for the next in the series to hit my Kindle.
Why did the book end so soon? why is the rest in another book? I wasn’t really in the story and bam it already ended… there was nothing completed or finished it just stopped wth? barely any character development and what was with her lies about her ex boyfriend twice?
A fantastic start to Holly's next novel. I'm already I love with Orkney, despite never having been and can't wait for the next installment, so I can loose myself once more.
Hm, what can I say? I got this as a free download (in the German translation called „Herzklopfen im Cottage am Strand“), but when I downloaded the e-book I didn‘t realize this was not really a full book, but more the 1st quarter of a 400-500 page novel. I did enjoy it, but I wish I had found the full novel (called „Coming Home to Brightwater Bay“ or in German „Süße Träume im Cottage am Strand“).
It‘s for you if you like: Books about women who need a fresh start after a break-up, books about writers/librarians/book lovers, Scotland (especially the Orkney islands) and/or small town stories.
The main character is called Merina Wilde who lives in London at the beginning. The other characters include librarian Niall, Magnus from Iceland, Gordon the Goat and several older ladies.
I would like to read the rest of the story, but I have so many other books in my physical and virtual SUB that I won‘t buy the full novel right away.
I really enjoyed this book which surprised me as I wasn’t expecting to; it’s not my usual read. It was well-written and perfect holiday reading. I liked the various characters and I didn’t know want would happen until it did at the end. It painted a lovely picture of Orkney. I didn’t know until just now that there were others in the series so I’ll be looking out for them. Ah but I think they probably were all in the one book??
Another great story from a brilliant author. Lovely story and easy reading, I can't wait for book 2. I have read every book from Holly Hepburn and have enjoyed everyone.
A brilliant start to a four part serialisation. An author with a broken heart and writer's block takes up a residency in the isle of Orkney. She's hoping for a magic flash of brilliance to jump start her flagging career but maybe her heart beds it too.
Yet again another story from Holly that I couldn't put down. The descriptions of the locations and characters sure so good you can imagine actually being there. Next 3 books already ordered for my kindle and I can't wait!
Loved this. Very well written. Immediately had my attention and kept it. I've given it 4 stars because was so short. I prefer one novel with the full story rather than the same story over 4 short novels. Sorry xx
I love Holly’s work and this first instalment has me hooked, already opening the second book now! The setting is great and has me googling everything for more details. Once COVID is over, I might just have to visit Orkney!
4.5 stars, only because it’s so short! i wish the whole story was in one book instead of in parts, it feels like a big cliffhanger. but it’s exactly the type of plot that i adore reading, so i’m looking forward to reading the rest!
