Still good, but it seemed repetitive from the first one. I was also listening on audiobook and there was a lot of repetitive phrases “hit her like a brick” within what seemed like the same page. I’m still going to listen to book 3, so it wasn’t too bad!

It took all of 3 seconds to Google "do the FBI need a search warrant to search your home and computer" to see that yes, this is indeed required. Searching the home of a potential serial killer? Yes, let's go in without a warrant, without announcing, and ALONE—excellent choice, well done.

Trigger warning: infertility

I had not read the first book, but there was plenty of recap info inserted here and there that I had no problem being brought up to date. I found Agent Taylor Sage fascinating in her human-ness and broken-ness. Of course, protagonists far and wide all have some broken part(s) in them to make them more relatable, but somehow Taylor's seemed more raw than most.

Even in her vulnerability, though, her ability to sense and trust her instincts shone through and that's what drove most of her investigation and her awareness of what was happening in the various parts of her life.

The author tackles a tough topic in bringing in Taylor's infertility due to a past gunshot to her abdomen. There isn't a whole lot of time spent on the topic, but the time that is spent did a good job of outlining one way of viewing the impact of infertility on a relationship, but there are others. I am an adoptive mom of three children that are adults now and it has been an amazing journey of learning not only about adoption, but about attitudes toward biological children v. adopted children.

One of the major issues that couples run up against is the male psyche's need to pass on their genes and the family name. Many couples end up adopting girls because the man is reluctant to give his name to a child that did not come from his seed. It's a complex issue that was discussed at length amongst my fellow adoptive parents. I am lucky in that my husband didn't care one whit about biological connection or passing on his family name. His brother had more than enough kids to take care of that, he said! With five nieces and nephews in that family I could see his point.

The whole premise of the murders in this book is very creative, being built around the game of chess. I am not a chess player, but know enough to understand the elements in the story. Those who enjoy chess will likely get more out of this part of the story than I did.

Overall, this seems like a good series that is unique enough to stand out amongst the other series in this genre. This book is definitely worth reading and I am now curious to see what other topics the author tackles in the rest of the series.

Taylor always looked at fortune tellers and the like with distrust and in Don't Breathe we see how her feelings towards the occult change and she finds it helps her. She will face a very intelligent serial killer and a chess addict, and major changes in her personal and professional life, but these changes may give her a new take on the times to come.
A very good plot is well written and entertaining.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Don’t Breathe (A Taylor Sage FBI Suspense Thriller Book 2) was a great read by Molly Black. There are victims of a new serial killer that are turning up dead. Mysteriously there are chess pieces left on their bodies. FBI Special Agent Taylor Sage is determined to crack this case on her own. Unfortunately she turns to a tarot reader for a clue when she hits a dead end. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Predictable

I wanted to love the 2nd book but I felt like I was reading the 1st book but a different murder. Everything else was pretty much the same: serial killer, they get the wrong guy, Taylor goes in alone, her marriage is on the rocks, seeks guidance from a tarot reader ….. all the same thing. Trying the 3rd…fingers crossed.

CHIRP AUDIOBOOK

This is a really good FBI storyline that follows every single lead… until the kidnapper/killer is apprehended. Not too thrilled with the lead investigator using a medium to look for clues by way of tarot cards, …but it’s just a story after all.

Great Book 2!

I liked this even more than the first Book. Easy to read and the story keeps moving without too much fluff and sidebar stuff that you would want to skip over anyway. I enjoyed the story and am anxious to read the next book in the series.

Good story but it was almost identical to book 1 just a slightly different plot. Not how I expected it to go and not in a good way necessarily. Since they’re short I’ll probably read book 3 just to say i gave the series a chance
