“This is where they broke the world…”In this 8th book in the popular RUSHED series, Eric is once again plunged into the weird when he wakes up stranded all alone in the middle of a haunted forest, his vehicle mangled, no road in sight and no recollection of whatever strange events brought him here. Even his cell phone has gone missing, leaving him unable to look up where he is, call for help or communicate with Isabelle. Soon, he finds himself on the run from a mysterious, panic-inducing presence, monstrous creatures and countless restless spirits. This is Evancurt. Something terrible once happened here. And something even worse is going to happen if Eric can’t find a way to put a stop to it. But he’s never faced something like this before. He'll be haunted by his past as much as the dead and much more than just his life is on the line this time.
Brian Harmon is an independent author of horror fiction, suspense and dark adventure. He grew up in Missouri and currently lives in Southern Wisconsin with his wife, Guinevere, and their three children.
Harmon is a master at spinning a yarn that will keep you guessing until the end! This book has it all- drama, suspense, horror, humor- weird and wonderful, with reminders of characters and events from the previous books in this series ( highly recommend you read them ALL).
I always enjoy his books very much. I kind of figured this one out before it ended but it was still great. I would recommend him to anyone and have to many!
This is yet another great story in the Rushed series by Brian Harmon. I’m afraid I didn’t get much done while reading this latest book! I just could’ve put it down!
The "Rushed" series has been one of my favorites for the past couple of years, however, this part (as well as the last 1-2 I would say) has some things that can be improved. There are some very interesting changes in the story, making Eric (the main character) in entirely different circumstances, the biggest obstacle to him being that he doesn't have a phone to communicate with Isabell.
The biggest problem I have with Rushed: Evancurt is that the storyline is filled with too many pointless moments giving exposition, showing the different ghosts (most of whom don't have any role, some of which are added for a comedic effect). There are also a lot of comparisons with the past books in the series and way too many comparisons and hypothetical explanations based on Eric's imagination. As a whole, this wouldn't be such a nuisance, but it is so common throughout the book that I found it to be quite annoying. Although I understand that this might be what some people like about the story.
The ending, however, was amazing, really unexpected, and quite interesting, still showing the true nature of Brain Harmon's intriguing ideas and why I started loving his books. If I have to give a simple explanation about the book, it would be to say that it is very similar to "Road beneath the Woods", the 4th book of the "The Temple of the Blind" series also by B. Harmon. Both books are too long for what they are trying to convey, making them a tedious read as a whole, but the endings are more than satisfactory and (I hope) the current book would be a pivotal moment in the entire story.
This doesn't change the fact that it took me about 6 months to go through the entire book, while still skipping some chapters that might be fun to read, but are ultimately meaningless. Again I'm referring to "The Temple of the Blind" wherein the 5th book there was an entire chapter where the girls in the group are contemplating where to have their nails done after they return from the very dangerous world where two of their companions have already died. It just doesn't fit in the circumstances they were at that moment.
It hurts me to do it, but I have to give this book 3 stars. This doesn't make the book bad, it just doesn't hit the same way the previous did, it wasn't a book that I wanted to finish as soon as possible as the story didn't grab my interest as much.
If you are a fan of the "Rushed" series, then by all means, make sure to give it a read.
What a SWERVE! A curve? A twisted place, perhaps?! I had just decided that Harmon may not be living up to my expectations when I was BLOWN away at the switch. This book delivered and exceeded my expectations and wants. Whew!
It starts off slow, but there are certain changes that make you keep going. The descriptions and details given are sometimes on point and sometimes seemingly unnecessary. However, in the end, all worth the read.
Another great adventure with Eric, as he winds his way through the weird. Definitely creepy and wildly imaginative.
Twists, turns and surprises make this well-written fantasy a compelling read. Threaded with humour, this story follows Eric's quest into the bizarre, with moments of scare, strange and sadness.
These are really wonderful books. I have enjoyed all of the Rushed books VERY much. They are undoubtable odd, but still wonderful. I love Eric's character. Thank you, Brian. This is so different from anything else I have ever read. I will be (somewhat) patiently waiting for the next installment.
It's a really good story lots of twisted characters non stop action couldn't stop reading. I've read the whole series they are all very interesting and entertaining. Thank you Brian Harmon.
I have to say this was so far my favorite book from Brian Harmon! It was filled with so many twists and turns and it was unpredictable making it a great suspense read!
