1001 Dark Nights: Tempting Brooke: A Big Sky Novella

Rate this book
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby comes a new story in her Big Sky series…

Brooke’s Blooms has taken Cunningham Falls by surprise. The beautiful, innovative flower shop is trendy, with not only gorgeous flower arrangements, but also fun gifts for any occasion. This store is Brooke Henderson’s deepest joy, and it means everything to her, which shows in how completely she and her little shop have been embraced by the small community of Cunningham Falls.

So, when her landlord dies and Brody Chabot saunters through her door, announcing that the building has been sold, and will soon be demolished, Brooke knows that she’s in for the fight of her life. But she hasn’t gotten this far by sitting back and quietly doing what she’s told. Hustle is Brooke’s middle name, and she has no intention of losing this fight, no matter how tempting Brody’s smile -- and body -- is.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Tempting Brooke was a sweet story and a great addition to this series. There was a really good mix of some angst thrown into the story as well with Brody wanting to sell the building Brooke's flower show was in. But that didn't stop these characters from being with one another and their chemistry was still the main focus of the story and had me smiling while I read. Brooke and Brody together was just super sweet and I couldn't help but love them. Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read with likable characters and swoon worthy moments.

I just love a story of best friends turning into more, especially when the two have quietly longed for more. Brooke and Brody were best friends in high school until Brody’s homelife made him feel ending his friendship with Brooke was for the best. Brody moved away from Cunningham Falls, but never forgot Brooke just as she’s never forgot him. Now years later, Brody is back in town to sell the business property Brooke is renting for her burgeoning flower shop. Brooke proposes an offer: stay and see how her business works, the happiness she brings to clients, and if he still wants to sell, then so be it.

Along the way Brooke and Brody rediscover the friendship they left behind, remember all the feelings buried away and start to fall all over again.

Being a friends-to-lovers novella, Kristen Proby did an excellent job laying a strong foundation for Brooke and Brody’s romance. They already have a history of unrequited love going in that’s highlighted, so was easy to get invested in their HEA!

Tempting Brooke was an enjoyable read spending time with Brooke and Brody, they were friends in high school until Brody cut Brooke off and left town without a word, returning ten years later to Cunningham Falls on business or will it be pleasure?

This was Kristen’s usual formula and not too cringe worthy compared to some of her pervious stories have been.

What a deliciously sweet and sexy 1001 Dark nights tale! Definitely KP Style that will leave you hooked and wanting even more Big Sky world!

Brody and Brooke had been best friends forever, until one day Brody’s life became unbearable and from that moment on all he could think was to escape his reality, and leave Cunningham Falls forever.

Now, more than a decade after Brody returns – for a trip as quick as possible! – to deal with the last remaining connection he had to this small town, his inheritance, aka. the building where Brooke has her much loved and hard earned business. Well, she is set it not going down without a fight, she just didn’t expect that her long ago sweet friend whom she loved, had became this gorgeous man in front of her.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Times a million.
I blink rapidly, trying not to stare at the tanned, toned, muscley goodness that is Brody Chabot, but it’s impossible.
He’s like the most glorious work of art in the world, and I’d challenge anyone to be able to look away.

Nor did any of them expect the INSANE chemistry going on between them. Let me tell you, it was sizzling!!!

With one week as deadline, we could see that neither of them had any chance to walk away emotionally unscathed.

“I’m staying, Brooke. I don’t know what this is exactly, but I feel it all the way to my bones, and I’m not willing to leave until we figure it out.”

One week seemed much longer than it was considering the huge development there was to their relationship and feelings. Though short time framed we truly felt their magnetism and childhood friendship blossom into something more, love.

And the built up… Oh boy, Brody and Brooke were scorching together!

“Sorry, I didn’t have a towel.”
He doesn’t reply. He just rushes to me, lifts me in his arms, covers my mouth with his, and carries me directly to my bedroom.
Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Tempting Brooke was indeed a deliciously tempting little read, that very much like Scheherazade’s stories, leave you addicted to not only Ms. Proby’s stories, but also craving so much more of this world and characters. Mission accomplished, I’d say! Perfect 1001 Dark Nights addition and yes, I want even more Big Sky now! <3 <3 <3 <3

“All good things,” he says.
“The best things,” I agree. “You always seem to tempt me with the best things.”

“I’ve been keeping my hands off of you for days, when all I want to do is touch you.”

Kristen Proby paints the picture of a beautiful, touching, and romantic love story in Tempting Brooke, a novella from her Big Sky series. This charming romance brings us to the picturesque small community of Cunningham Falls. The author describes this small town in such a way that I feel like I’m a part of it while I’m reading about it. It’s vivid in my mind and so I find it harder and harder to step away once the last page has turned. The same goes for her incredible characters that she brings to life with Brooke and Brody. These two already have a sort of foundation between them, built years ago, so when they reunite there is this solid chemistry and connection that can’t be denied. I love the ease of it all and it makes the story that much more delightful and entertaining.

Ms. Proby can do no wrong in this genre. Her writing style is elegant and addicting. She gives her fans love stories that they can relate to and get lost in. Even though this is a novella, it felt substantial and complete to me, and that’s hard to do because with most novellas, I’m left wanting so much more. With Brooke and Brody’s story, I felt nothing less than complete satisfaction. I loved everything about this romance…the banter, the chemistry, the progression…it all worked great together and it was the perfect one-sitting romance read for me!

This is a novella in the author's new Big Sky series. It focuses on Brooke, the florist. We have met her in earlier stories. Brody and Brooke grew up together but as soon as Brody was of age, he left town. He returns years later as the new owner of Brooke's building. He wants to sell and get out of town again. Brook convinces him to follow her around for a week and then make a decision.

Short and sweet little read. Nice to meet a few more of the towns people. Also nice to get Brody's back story and see how he fits into the town with the rest of the couples we have met.

Great addition to the series.

A sweet and tempting love.

Brody and Brooke have known each other since they were kids and really close friends. But since then, Brody has a secret that not even Brooke knows and that makes him leave all behind, including her.

After so many years, he is back in town and that threatens Brooke's business. But after a proposition she makes, he is tempted to cave, and they are both tempted to finally their feelings speak louder, which is long overdue.

They are sweet together and we meet again that love we are sure to find from this author!

There’s always room on my shelf for another sweet romance! TEMPTING BROOKE by Kristen Proby is a tale of renewed friendships, revelations and finding that special person who will change what is important in one’s life.

Brooke and Brody were friends until the day Brody left with no explanation. Years have passed and now Brooke’s flower shop is threatened when the unknown owner decides to sell the building. She has one chance to help Brody wake up and smell the roses, instead of dwelling on life’s thorns.

Short on words, but filled with great characters and a wonderful love story in bloom!

I 've been looking forward to more of Brooke and if this series. It's becoming one of my favourites from this author. All the characters are so good. It's hard to pick my favourite out of all of them. Every book and character just seems to get better.

Brody and Brookes story is so sweet. Even though there was a few hard awkward moments they would all think back to when they were younger and were so close. That time mite not of been great for Brody but Brooke made it better for him. Now things are a lot different they have grown up but the attraction is even stronger. But they have moved on with there lives and they don't even live in the same state. But Brooke has a plan to make Brody see what he is missing.

I'm not normally a novella reader, but I've really been enjoying my time spent with the novellas I've read from the "1001 Dark Nights" compilation. This title from Kristen Proby, "Tempting Brooke", introduced me to her "Big Sky" series, which is one I'll be sure to look into at a later date.

I loved that Brody and Brooke had a bit of a complicated history, being that they were best friends for a time while they were kids. Brody was going through a dark time, and he felt he couldn't open up to anyone, even his best friend. At one point, Brody walked away completely from this friendship, and Brooke was left wondering what happened. She was understandably very hurt!

"Tempting Brooke" finds Brody coming back to town for the first time since he left right after graduation. He's now a successful engineer, but he has no inclination of staying in Cunningham Falls - once he offloads the building he inherited, he's planning on heading back to San Francisco without a backward glance. Too bad his plan is about to be foiled by Brooke, who wants to show Brody that he should give Cunningham Falls, and their relationship, a second chance.

I loved the chemistry between Brooke and Brody, and I loved the setting of this quaint little town. That said, I felt there could have been a bit more development all around. I was left wanting more detail, and I wished that things weren't wrapped up quite so tidily.

This was a fantastic novella in Kristen Proby’s Big Sky Series. Brooke runs a cute little flower shop in Cunningham Falls. She has built a business that she and her customers adore. She has a bubbly personality and everyone loves her. Brody is the owner of the building she has her shop in. He suddenly announces his plans to sell the building and Brooke is determined to change his mind. The connection and chemistry between them was off the charts. Prior to his return to Cunningham Falls Brooke and Brody were childhood friends when he abruptly ups and leaves and Brooke had no idea why. Due to his past Brody wants to cut off all his ties to the town until he finds himself falling for Brooke quickly and changes the course of his plans. Even though this was short novella I throughly enjoyed it. 4 STARS.

Part of the appeal of Kristen Proby’s Big Sky series is its setting; it’s a beautiful location and Proby brings that environment to life with her detailed descriptions. I also like the small-town feel of Cunningham Falls; it’s big enough to draw in tourists but it also has a cozy feel to it that keeps its residents enthralled with the life they have here, even if the snow is overwhelming at times.

In Tempting Brooke, Proby tells Brooke Henderson and Brody Chabot’s story - one that has history and strong feelings attached to it and one that stirs up past emotions and enlightens readers about Brody’s reasons for not wanting to stay in his hometown any longer than he has to despite Brooke’s presence and the way he’s always felt about her. But things change when Brooke finagles more time with Brody to sort through both their professional and personal relationships - ones that Brooke hopes exist even after their one week is up.

I really enjoyed getting to know Brooke and learning about what she finds passion in and why. Brooke’s a great heroine because she doesn’t make everything about herself and her business. Of course, she has a stake in preventing Brody from selling the building he now owns, but there’s more at play than just her livelihood and those other factors are what Brooke shows Brody during the week he gives her to change his mind.

I can’t necessarily blame Brody for cutting ties with everyone and everything in Cunningham Falls due to what he faced as a child up until the day he left, but he gave up more than he thought he did when it came to his relationship/connection to Brooke; the fact that they’ve always been honest and real with each other is part of the reason he cut ties with her even before he left, but what they shared never went away; it only hid beneath the surface and now that they’re back in each other’s lives after a decade, their friendly feelings have turned into something more…something that proves just how right they’ve always been for each other despite the time, distance, and hurt feelings experienced.

But what that means for a future together isn’t an easy answer, so even though Brooke and Brody are both tempted to give into what their body and hearts want, the aftermath may do more harm than good, leaving these two questioning what the right answer is and if a solution can be found.

Tempting Brooke is a sweet read about second chances and not allowing one’s past to dictate one’s future, and I, for one, am so glad that these two gave into temptation.

~ 5 "Bloom"ing Stars ~

Again Kristen Proby has delivered us another sweet and sexy romance. I absolutely love her writing and I fall in love with her stories and characters every time I pick up a new book by her. The only thing with Tempting Brooke, was I wished it was longer. I want more of Brooke and Brody!!!

Tempting Brooke is a novella that is based in her Big Sky Series. This is a story that can be read in a couple of hours. But even though it is a shorter story, it was lacking for nothing. This is told in Dual POV and is a standalone story. This is a friends to lovers story. I will let you know this, it is an insta love type story. It kind of has to be being a novella, but it worked for Brooke and Brody. You’ll see why when you read the book.

In this story we follow Brooke and Brody. Brooke is an upcoming florist in Cunningham Falls. Finally making a name for herself and making plans with her sister Maisey. So color her surprised when she gets a letter saying she needs to vacate the premises in 30 days. The new owner of the building she rents from is selling the property. Brooke is devastated and afraid of what that will do to her business. So when the new owner comes to town to talk in person, she is determined to convince him not to sell. Brody is a past resident of Cunningham Falls and has become the owner of a building back there. Being brought up in a bad home, he is determined to get rid of the property ASAP. He has made a life for himself in San Franscisco. Neither Brooke or Brody can plan for what happens when they see each other again after 10 years. Read this story to find out how Brody and Brooke’s story turns out.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has some time to spare and wants a sweet and sexy read about two friends who reconnect after almost a decade apart. If you are a fan of Kristen Proby’s you will want to pick up this gem of a story!!! I will say this, this story made me want to go back and re-read the Big Sky books and all the books based in Cunningham Falls.

I loved this short story by Kristen Proby- shes my ultimate go to author- and this was a great book to fill in a gap while waiting for her next big release.

Brooke is a florist in the town of Cunningham falls- and receives notice that her new landlord is selling her building.....Enter Brody- her childhood crush- her old best friend- who one day just stopped being her friend and eventually took off and left town.

In order to stop Brody from selling her building- Brooke convinces him to stay for just a week and help her in her store so he can really see what her little flower shop means to the community- and to show Brody Cunningham falls isnt how he remembered it at all.

For a short story this book really does cover quite a lot of ground- and as per KP style its done incredibly well.

All the supporting characters really add to the story and also remind you of the previous tales.

If you've never read a KP story this is the ideal book- it'll give you a taste of her style without leaving you confused that you didnt read the other books before it.

4.5*'s- I just wish this would have been full length- not because it was rushed......it's just because I can never find a KP book thats long enough!!

This was the perfect addition to the series! I love the instant spark and awareness and familiarity Brooke and Brody had with each other 10 years later. It was so natural and fun! Their attraction poured off the pages.

There were so many glances into stories past. I live for those moments. I thought that the sensitive subject matter was handled with such care. KP you knocked it out of the park.

Now if Maisey could just get her own story...

Brooke Henderson is happy running her flower shop in Cunningham Falls and working on weddings with her sister. She is caring, understanding, and thrives on being a part of the growing community. But when her new landlord threatens to sell he building her business is in, it brings out her more stubborn and determined side.

Brody Chabot inherited the building, but he really has no interest in returning to the town where he suffered in silence and took off as soon as he could. But his old friend, Brooke is not going to let him just get in, get out, and interfere with her dream business. He is intelligent, motivated, and a workaholic. And he has just become more sexy and charming over the years.

She manages to strike a deal that will have him staying a bit longer, but they have no idea what the outcome will be. Their teenage crushes are starting to turn into full blown attraction and that can be dangerous since their lives are so different.

This is a short, sweet, swoony, novella full of sexual tension and fun banter. I really liked both Brody and Brooke. Even though it is hard to do too much in the short length, I feel like the author managed to give the characters depth and motivations. The plot was fairly light and easy, but there was a bit of a hard edge to it due to some circumstances. I was totally engaged and read it in one sitting. It can be read as a total standalone and is a good little intro to the series based in this town. Cameos from other books in the Love Under the Big Sky series made me smile.

I love this town of Cunningham Falls and have enjoyed each visit and am looking forward to more.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

It's summer in Cunningham Falls, Montana.
Brooke's Bloom is the flower shop that does not stop. Among so many events and people in love ready to send flowers, Brooke Henderson has nothing to complain about. And the business has every prospect of expanding, as soon as her sister, Maisey, can rent the next shop and set up her own cake shop.
The only problem is that Brooke has just received a letter from the new owner - inherited by the death his father - warning her that she has 60 days to leave the property.
She can not afford to buy the property, and changing her location could be a blow to business. But she knew the new owner. It was Brody Chabot, an old school friend. She then draws up a plan to make him change his mind...

Brody left Cunningham Falls when he was 18 and never came back. Not even when his mother died of cancer a few years later. He wanted to leave that city behind, just like the bad memories he had.
His father, Greg Chabot, a respectable businessman in the area, was a monster in the house, and treated Brody and his mother as a punching bag. At 18, Brody could not take it anymore, but his mother did not want to go with him.
He went to San Francisco, and over the next 10 years, managed to raise his life and became a successful engineer.
When he returned to town to talk to Brooke and shut down all business, he did not expect to meet a woman so stubborn, she would ask him to stay in town for a week. rather than the 48 hours he had planned, so that he would personally see how her business made a difference in the city.
This coexistence rekindles old feelings, but at the same time reminds Brody of everything he has been silent for several years.
To save a business, Brooke would have to help an old friend heal a few wounds, and the man she loved to forgive himself.
Beautiful story.

Let me start with, I love the 1001 Dark Nights novellas. They give secondary characters a voice without losing sight of a series or story. They're packed with just the right dose of sexy, sophistication, and sass. It's really hard not to love these sweet minis.

Every time I read a book in the Big Sky series it transports me to a one of the Hallmark movies, except I get all the sexy bits. The men are sweet but they're alpha. The heroine is strong but soaks up the charm that is thrown her way.

Brooke and Brody fall under the trope of second chance. Second chance to explore what they didn't dare voice back then. Second chance to give Cunningham Falls a reason to charm you. I really loved the chemistry between Brooke and Brody. I especially loved that there's more to come from this dreamy town.

If you've never read a 1001 Dark Nights book, this a good start. If you've never read a Kristen Proby novel, this story is the perfect introduction to her work since it has her sexy signature.

Tempting Brooke is a fun, must read.

This installment in a series I haven’t read (knowingly, this time) is super cute. The world is somewhat known to me as I’ve read Proby’s previous series Love Under the Big Sky and loved it.

This time Brooke and Brody’s story is somewhat impossible and yet they manage to make it work. It’s cute, it’s very short and could have been developed a bit more, but it’s still a fun read.

Brooke is a self made flower shop owner, aspiring to join forces with her sister who’s starting up a sweets catering service. But when a blast from her very distant past threatens to put a stop to her dreams, she decides to fight back, and ends up falling back (in love) with him.

I’m going to go back to the beginning and read the first two books.

Brooke may seem like an easygoing sweetheart, but she's no pushover. She knows how to get what she wants. When the business she loves is threatened is when the gloves come off and the battle begins. Brody is the enemy. He wants to take away the one thing that makes her happy and brings joy to the people of her community. So why can't she keep her eye on the prize and her heart out of the equation? A battle is brewing and the outcome is not to be missed. Kristen Proby steams up the bookshelf with her stories of fierce women and irresistible men. Tempting Brooke is another firecracker that leaves it's mark on the heart.

Great novella about Brooke & Brody, best of friends till one day they weren't and she never had a reason why. As he becomes her landlord of her flower shop and wants her out, her & her sister fight to stay, asking him to stay for a week and see what she does for the town of Cunningham Falls!
Read along and watch the chemistry between these two sizzle off the roof!

Sweet and sexy and perfect for an afternoon read/listen. Brody left town after high school without looking back and now he is back in Cunninham Falls to sell his building he inherited but Brooke's Blooms has been handed an eviction notice. Brook is not pleased and gives Brody a counter offer, spend a week with her and make one delivery a day with her before evicting her. One week is all it takes for him to change his mind about everything and life changes for both of them. This was a great addition to this series!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is a lovely novella which fits into Kristen Proby's Big Sky series - and is both a treat to the new reader and a fun return to Cunningham Falls for a faithful fan.

I think my only complaint about this story is that I wanted it to be longer. We get some beautiful details which give Brody reasons why Brooke's business are so important (be ready for some teary moments) over the course of a week, but then have to miss out on more of the relationship that is building over time. I could happily have read more about them meshing their lives together.

As always there are some lovely side characters who one hopes will get their HEA in future installments, so I am confident that we will catch up with this couple in the future and satisfy my curiosity.

Tempting Brooke (Big Sky #2.5) by Kristen Proby
4.5 stars
M/F Romance
Triggers: Domestic Violence
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Brooke is blossoming in her new business. She loves where she lives and loves her friends and family. But, she had a best friend growing up and never quite knew what she did to drive him away. When he comes back to town in order to sell the building that her business is now residing in, she will need to remind him just what is special about their town.

Brody grew up living a lie. While he was never quite sure how to get out from behind the lie, he was able to simply escape. Despite years of wanting something he knew would never happen, when he has to return home to settle an estate, he runs in to so many people from his past that he can't help but remember some of the good times too. Brooke captivates him right from the beginning and in his promise to her, he gets to see his home town through her eyes.

This is a great friends to lovers romance. It's about trust and growing up, love and friendship. I loved how these characters had a past, but it didn't necessarily define their present or future. I wish that this was somewhat longer, as I think that these two characters deserved a longer story. It felt a little rushed towards the end. Hopefully we get to see them more in future books!

Kristen delights again with a great addition to her Big Sky series with Tempting Brooke. A quick read that satisfies those wanting sexy, sweet, a little angst, and an HEA. As always, Kristen brings the chemistry and keeps it classy. Perfect for a single sitting read. I cannot wait for what is next in Cunningham Falls!
