After locating the Inscribers on the Haunted Isle, Alec Diamondspear has found not only his long-lost mother, but a force that might be capable of taking the fight to Chaos.
With events moving toward a final battle, there are more mysteries surrounding Alec and his origins that must be revealed. All of them will strike at the heart of who Alec is, and who he wishes to be.
Old foes and new friends come together in the final instalment of The Last Magus.
Commenting on the whole series: I feel like the author had this story all worked out before he began writing and was ins hurry to get to the end. Along the way he gave far too little effort to character development and that that he did was stereotypical to the extreme. The main protagonist has no visible flaws, his girlfriend's only flaws is being too much in love, his friends are ever loyal, foes are easily bent to his will and on it goes. It's too bad as there is a nice coming of age story here. Another thing that annoyed me was that this is really one good sized book, not six. At the most it should have been a trilogy. Only had the author actually fleshed out the characters by delving into their backgrounds and motivations and giving them some actual flaws to overcome would this be justified as being six books. There was a lot of untapped potential here, still, a fun non-taxing read overall.
It’s a fun read but six books leading up to the final conflict and it was like the author got bored or stuck and the ending of that was a total let down. Also, some things alluded to in previous books were never tied off. Good series for a new author, fun to read but lack any depth.
I really enjoyed reading all 6 books in this series. Alec seemed so unassuming at the start but reading each book and seeing how much he grew along with his familiar and his friends was brilliant. I loved the shadowbringer and his strange inventions. An epic tale well worth reading.
I have enjoyed this series quite a bit. It isn't without faults, but it is an entertaining story. Alec and his friends go up against the forces of chaos, and suffer some heavy loss. The wrap-up is fast paced, and Alec faces his most dangerous opponent in an attempt to end the war. Will probably read more by this author in the future.
Another great book wrapping up the main arc but opening the door to an endless number of possibilities for continuing the story. Please continue this series, I would love to see what other adventures Alec gets himself involved in!
Thought the last battle was going to be more anti-climatic than it was which is a good thing. It was just a slight bit unpredictable. All in all, I enjoyed the whole series. Hoping we see more of Alec and the rest in some future adventures.
Really enjoyed this series, so would defiantly love to see it continue on to the divinity arc. As while it's sort of settled the chaos mortal arc it hasn't settled the divine one.
The entire series was amazing and well written, had me wanting more with every page turned. The story and characters were captivating and compelling, made you laugh and could not put the books down
Jumbled Mess Wraps Everything Up This feels like too many stories crammed into one book, making all of them unsatisfying and not as much fun as they could be. Alec soliloquizing about how he is a man, a leader, has grown up etc. is repetitive, boring and poor storytelling effort.
Between the absurd escalation of power where Alec is poly morphing into a dragon to fight the big bad guys, and to be death of one of the better portrayed characters in the book overall the story left me disappointed.
The relationship between the drow and the gnome is an entertaining diversion.
Given the amount of build up for the big bad warship of the enemy It was a bit of a disappointment when it finally made a brief appearance.
The angst around Alec's relationship with his long-absent mother was confusing and poorly written.
Most of the time I have no idea of what up you are saying. I do not follow your plot. I have a master's degree and two bachelor's. I'm not stupid. The diaglog is hard to parse. Thr logic isn't there. I don't understand your books. I kind of got the earlier books. But I do not get the world or the story
