Enjoy the first two books in the Goodnight Mysteries series.
Die Noon Matilda Dare can’t sleep. Her insomnia is one more reason to move to the quirky small town of Goodnight, New Mexico after she inherits a house, a small newspaper, and two old dogs there. But despite the Goodnight name, Matilda still spends her nights wide awake, and she has good reason after a reporter is murdered. With a mystery to solve, she begins to investigate the town and uncovers more suspects than she knows what to do with. Meanwhile, the hottie cowboy sheriff is doing his own investigation into Matilda, and the mysterious, handsome stranger, who just happens to live with her, is showing up in all the wrong places. As her investigation continues, danger increases, and it might end up spelling lights out for Matilda.
A Doom with a View Matilda Dare still can’t sleep. Since she’s arrived in Goodnight, New Mexico, she’s solved one murder and had more than one conversation with a dead woman. Obsessed with finding the woman’s killer, she has to put that on hold when her newspaper receives a mysterious, coded letter. When the author of the letter winds up dead, Matilda is thrust into a mystery that puts her new friends into danger. The hunky Sheriff Goodnight and Matilda’s hunky roommate Boone are along for the ride in this funny action adventure that might end up spelling lights out for Matilda.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
I enjoyed reading the first two books. It's similar to Stephanie Plum and her antics. I laughed, and was anxious at times. I also wish there was more backbone to the main character. I got tired if her always acquiescing to people around her, and being pushed beyond my limits. I cheered when she confronted the "Witches". I hope she finally gets Boone and is able to manage her paper, divorce, dead people on her own and stand up for herself. The serial killer makes me want to continue but I can't splurge the $20 price right now or I'll eat pb&j for awhile.
Finished both books. First better than 2nd which has too much farce. I even live in New Mexico and I like a bit of fantasy (the ghosts was ok) but events happening to the live people just got stupid. Even for Santa Fe.
Matilda Dare inherits a small town newspaper and house from a relative she didn't know well. Seeking to escape a jailed husband that she hopes will soon be an ex-, one who spread rumors that she's crazy, she relocates to New Mexico only to find that the rumors of her craziness have followed her.
Each book contains its own mystery which is solved but there is also an overarching mystery that is not solved in either of the two books contained in this set. Well, maybe two--why do the Goodnight brothers avoid each other (I suspect it has something to do with the sheriff's late wife) and who is keeping the blondes captive?
I don't buy that Matilda never sleeps (other than one brief 7 minute siesta recorded in one of the books). In real life, a human that doesn't ever sleep would have myriad health issues.
Matilda going through a divorce, from a man who put her in a insane asylum, and finds out he is a murderer. Moved to New Mexico where inherited house, dogs and a news paper business. Why are people dying when she arrives and how can she make money with this newspaper business?
A very funny wacky stories about a broke woman with ex husband in prison for murder and owning a paper in a small town and all the wacky things happening to her with sexy brothers and still able to talk to the dead
Solidly middling 2.5 star cozy mystery. Using the not great literature but fun easy read scale, I gave the 1st a 3, good enough to have me read the second (both free on my kindle). The second didn't really make me want to read the third tho. I liked Elise sax's matchmaker mysteries much better.
The first of these books was easier to read than the second, but I enjoyed both. Quirky characters abound, but the storyline is not so complicated that one loses the plot. AS seems to be all too common today, a good proof-reader would have been a big help!
Two good stories.. "Die Noon" and "A Doom With A View " Honesrly good characters populate Goodnight, NM. Our heroine, Matilda, can't keep from messing up whatever she touches, earning her the nickname "Trouble". And giving the reader great laughs.
I love this series by Elise Sax. I enjoy every character. And they are characters! Elise bumbles through life and comes out smiling with each new adventure.
Good for reading when you want something not too serious with ridiculous situations to make you laugh. Doesn’t hurt that the love interest(s?) sound super hot
New life and lots of mystery. A little romance, murder and confusion. Great characters and story. Waiting for the next book. Really enjoyed these books.
