About the author

American anthropologist Marvin Harris was born in Brooklyn, New York. A prolific writer, he was highly influential in the development of cultural materialism. In his work he combined Karl Marx's emphasis on the forces of production with Malthus's insights on the impact of demographic factors on other parts of the sociocultural system. Labeling demographic and production factors as infrastructure, Harris posited these factors as key in determining a society's social structure and culture.

Es uno de los libros que han marcado mi vida y mi posterior actitud ante la sociedad que me rodea, además de la visión que pueda hacerme de los sitios a los que viajo. Lo recomiendo a todos aquellos que tengan un mínimo de inquietud ante los aspectos sociales,culturales y en fin, antropología para empezar.Es cierto que es básico dentro de la antropología, sin embargo resulta eficaz al ser una visión de todos los aspectos con los que se trabaja en antropología. Es un libro realmente imprescindible.
