Rolston Ranch Brothers #1

A Nanny for the Grumpy Cowboy

Rate this book
Drake Rolston is a grumpy single dad with a chip on his shoulder larger than Texas.

When his long-time nanny quits, he is in desperate need of a new one.

Carefree dreamer Freddie Dover seems like the last girl on earth that he would pick.

But when there is slim pickings in a small town, desperate times call for desperate measures…and Drake
decides to take a chance with Freddie and his heart.

What’s worse than a worried overprotective grumpy cowboy boss?

Being set up on a blind date with him.

Behind those handsome rugged features, Drake looked like he was angry at the world… and maybe he
was. He didn’t get along with his brother and that was exactly what he needed to do if he wanted a part
of his father’s will.

Not only that, his overprotective nature with his young son around horses doesn’t really help his mood
when the family owns some of the most successful ranches in Texas.

But sparks fly on their blind date for this nanny and her boss. And their flames change Drake’s cold
exterior into a warm one.

But when a near accident brings out an even bigger secret…

How long until the surly cowboy’s flame goes out?

If you loved Heartless.....then don't read this. 😄 lol No but jokes aside I was expecting this to be a much tamer lighter watered-down version of the grumpy cowboy single dad vs sunny Nanny dynamic that Elsie Silver did so well. I wasn't expecting much from this but even so, this is all just paper cutouts with no depth, range or sense. The one-dimensional hero is a stubborn jerk who likes to blow things way out of proportion and glower at everything from the trees to the sun. He's so protective of his little boy Teddy and doesn't like anyone lecturing him on how to parent his kid yet he barely spends any time with said little boy and won't let him go near his ranch where he works instead just leaves him in a big house alone. That made zero sense to me. The one time the heroine Freddie messes up and Teddy almost gets hurt is unforgivable and you fire her on the spot but you lost your kid in the opening of the book and that was fine? :/ And how are you gonna have your grumpy hero not grovel and verbally apologize after being a jerk? Readers expect an apology at the very least when your hero is a jerk. Also, Teddy at times sounded like a 10 year old instead of a 6 year old. Ain't no way this kid is 6. I'm not even sure if this is a Contemporary cause it kind of sounded dated at times. The world building is nonexistent so if you are looking for details it's not there. Honestly I can't get this off my kindle fast enough. The writing, characters and thin-plot was so weak and uninspiring.

This was a good read. Freddie comes back home and is looking for a job. Drake ends up needing a nanny and his son instantly loves Freddie. He hires her and they fall in love. However, they have a few complications. Thankfully, in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.

Terrible waste of my time

Ugh the "hero" was a real jerk from the very first meeting and the second and the third and yes he improved but he never apologized for anything he did or said. The "hero" is being stupid about an important issue nanny tries ONE TIME to change (in the lamest least likely to convince way humanly possible I might as well ad) his mind then gives up and conspired with someone he had issues with to go around the dad and do (something that could kill the kid not very likely but still very possible) it anyways. No real resolution to that. So you come to the moment where there needs to be a seemingly final break in there relationship so that they can get past the heros hangup and get the happy ending. And he is brutal to her I mean if I was her between the trauma that happened and his reaction to it I would be feeling VERY suicidal. Frankly he was right and she was wrong but still there are somethings that should never be said to another person especially because they are true. And no apology EVER from him. Oh he said he ought to apologize then he said he loved her and she just melted at his feet and literally said "best apology ever"🤢🤢🤢🤢 this couple is ... dysfunctional and should not be together maybe after a few years of counseling and or therapy for both of them then we could see maybe they could be together then... probably not real change is hard at least it is in real life and the fact that these and so many other important issues were just swept under the rug to be forgotten and ignored made me hit the 4th wall way to hard to e er enjoy. I WISH I could give it negative stars. Oh and this book is not a Christian romance book it's just a clean book with literally one mention of God.

Grumpy single dad meets a girl full of sunshine and smiles

Drake is learning how to be a single dad to Teddy and mend fences with his brothers so they can all get their inheritance. The first three times he meets Freddie he is rude and dismissive. I'm not sure how Freddie was able to tolerate him except she fell in love with Teddy. When he had no other prospects for a nanny and at Teddies insistence he hired Freddie. Things were going great until Drake lost his temper over something that happened with Teddy and fired Freddie.

There is a lot of family dynamic between Drake and his brothers. Freddie is an only child and is longing to have that kind of family in her life. Her dad does his best but over the road truck drivers spend little time at home. Teddy deserved a loving family and I love the way things worked out.

Freddie and Drake with Teddy

Freddie is back home from California, where her dream of making it big with a dance troupe doesn't pan out. Then, just as she comes out of her father's home, she sees a streak of white on the street. She goes running after the horse and notices her neighbor trying to catch the horse also. After they get the horse in the trailer (encounter 1), a man she thinks she recognizes comes around yelling, yes yelling at her young neighbor. Even though the young man is trying to explain why he slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting his other neighbors dog, the man isn't listening! Then she goes into town and finds a little boy crying (encounter 2) and when she takes him to look at the cowboy hats the same surly man finds her with his son and even though he's relieved, proceeds to yell at his son for running off. Then, the same man (encounter 3) finds her "talking" to a tree. Only it's his son Teddy who has climbed the tree and doesn't want to come down as he knows his father will be upset with him. How many more encounters can Freddie have with Mr. Drake Rolston in one day? She doesn't want to know, so she goes back to the Tack and Feed where her cousin works and asks her if she knows of any jobs she might be interested in. What kind of job does her cousin suggest? Will she go on the interview? Will she get the job? Will she be able to keep the job if she gets it? Only one way to find out is to read this great story by Hanna Hart. You will love how it progresses and especially the ending.

sweet clean romance

Freddie moves back home to live with her Dad in Texas after being let go by a dance company in San Francisco. Drake is struggling to raise his son Teddy by himself while trying to keep the family ranch going with his brothers who are all struggling with stipulations of their father’s will. Drake and Freddie meet and immediately clash. When her cousin helps her get an interview as a nanny, it is Drake she’d be working for. He’s against hiring her until 2 of his brothers try to talk sense into him but it’s her interactions with his son that gets her the job which includes an apartment in Drake’s house. They fall into a nice routine and when they’re set up on a blind date and get to know each other personally feelings start to bloom. But an incident causes Drake to behave irrationally and he fires her. Devastated Freddie sinks into despair while Drake is even more grumpy. Thinking she will leave town and follow her dancing dream he gives up. Will Freddie leave for an old dream or follow a new dream and build a new life again in her hometown?

This was a great fast read, I was hooked on all the characters and plan on continuing the series.

This was such a cute, swoony read! I never thought I’d enjoy it this much. Plus I’ve been missing on clean reads, and this was the perfect clean western cowboy read!

Freddie Dover had big dreams- she wanted out of the small town and become a dancer with a live audience in San Francisco. Sadly, her dreams were crushed and she went back home with her heart broken. Desperate to start over and prove herself, she took on a job as a nanny to an adorable six year old kid. It kinda conflicted her thought that she was very attracted to her employer, Drake.

Drake Rolsten is a divorced single dad who is up in knots in running a ranch then caring for his child. That’s why Freddie is such a heaven sent to him and his son. Now he just has to fight his attraction for her…

The small town charm is certainly alive at this book. Peppered with numerous secondary characters with a charming matchmaker, this book is such a sweet read. I loved it! It even has angst and drama because our hero is so grumpy and stubborn.

4.25 stars! 😍

Freddie Dover was back in her small hometown after her not so successful venture in San Francisco. Feeling defeated and lost she knew she had to get herself together and find a way to make a living.

Drake Rolston was newly divorced, juggling custody of a young son and the unreasonable demands of his deceased father’s will. When his elderly nanny quits, he’s desperate to replace her.

When he meets Freddie, it’s far from love at first sight, but his son takes a liking to Freddie that Drake can’t deny.

Despite his growing attraction to Freddie, Drake loses it when a ranch accident endangers his son and he fires her.

After so many harsh words and much confusion will they be able to find common ground and a way back to each other.

Entertaining, but Drake was grumpy to the point of unpleasant, in my opinion.

Great Read

Loved Freddie, Drake and Teddy. She moved back home and because of a run away horse she meets Drake. Not a happy meeting, then in the feed store where Teddy gets lost from his
dad. As they keep running into each other and Drake is in desperate need for a Nanny he breaks down and ask. She needs a job and accepts. As they fall into a routine Freddie and Teddy become very attached. Drake falling for her as he watches and talks, than a problem occurs and he is so upset he fires her. She and Teddy are devastated. Does take lone for Drake to realize he made a huge mistake. Can he work it out? Will have to read and see. Well worth it.

Freedom or failure ??!

The story of Drake and Freddie boiled down to freedom or failure. In their cases it was the freedom to fail. Her dreams of dancing changed after failing in CA. Drake failed to realize his son needed freedom to be a kid on their family ranch. Drake’s brothers were hilarious in their sibling rivalries and it was never a dull moment with them around!! I totally loved the support from her father and cousin and all of the laughs provided. Looking forward to seeing who of the Rolston brothers falls next!!

DREAMS CAN CHANGE

This was a well written story. I could put myself into the story and feel the ups and downs these caricatures felt. Drakes over protectivness of his son made me want to slap him up the side of his head. Freddies lack of confidence made my maternal instinct come out. Sweet Teddy is a child every parent dreams of having. I think anyone who likes a good romance with substance will enjoy this book. I think anyone over 18 or 20 would enjoy reading this book. My kind of author.

A Nanny for the Grumpy Cowboy

Freddie seems to get on Drake’s nerves every time they meet but his son insists on her being his nanny. She does seem to have the qualifications so she is hired. Their relationship seems to develop slowly afterwards and they are able to settle into a life that seems like family. What happens when an accident almost claims the one they both cherish?

I can tell the Rolston brothers are all going to be a handful. It is a good thing that Teddy was such a sweetie or Drake might have been unsuccessful keeping a nanny, much less a girlfriend. Hanna Hart has given us fun story to start this series and I look forward to finding out what the others have to do for their inheritance.

A Nanny for the Grumpy Cowboy is a sweet, heartwarming, small town romance. While Drake needs to learn to control his anger, Freddie and Teddy stole my heart. I spent the afternoon reading this well written book. The characters and plot are engaging and kept my attention. This is a great start to Ms. Hart's new series.

I really enjoyed this book. Drake is the grump single Dad to a six year old boy Teddy. When his nanny quits, he hires a girl named Freddie as the new nanny. She loves the little boy and soon falls for the Dad. He has ghosts from his childhood, and when an accident happens, he fires Freddie. Will they find each other again and will there be forgiveness? It's a good read.

A grumpy cowboy and a broken hearted dancer

The first time these two met was awful! His son was lost and she was trying to find the parents. The second time he saw her he thought she was talking to a tree but she was really talking to his son who was in the tree. Then the story gets even better.

Very good book. Kept my interest all the way through.

I like the story of life. How it can be so different and still so much alike. It shows that dreams are just dreams. Real life is so much more interesting.

I absolutely cringed at the Nanny's decision to go behind Drake's back and allow his son to do something he had forbidden. It was a good story but that type of dishonesty would have been the end of a relationship for me. Couldn't justify it in any way.

I home as my dreams were crushed and I felt like I failed big time. I had disappointed my dad I was sure but I knew he loved me even though I had. I could come and lick my wounds and then worry so what is next. Enjoy the story.

This is the story of rancher Drake Rolston and dancer-turned-nanny Freddie Dover. Of course the nanny falls in love with both the precocious 6 year old Teddy and his grumpy Daddy. Sweet, innocent story. Not my usual read.
