Beyond Buttons #2

Buttons & Betrayal

Rate this book
Conway Barsetti doesn't want me to be a model anymore. He wants to keep me all to himself. I inspire him in ways no one else does. Now I'm living with him in his beautiful mansion, and I don't feel like a prisoner anymore. I'm free to do what I want, with some limitations. But he treats me so coldly, seeing me as an object rather than a person. His family comes by for lunch and he tells me to stay in my room so they won't see me. But I have a better idea. I'll make them believe I'm his girlfriend, that we live together and we're in love. Unless he treats me better, I'll tell his parents and sister what our arrangement really is. And humiliate him.

Conway lives for the approval of his parents, especially his father. He always wanted/needed his father be proud of him. He is the biggest role model he’d ever had. He couldn’t stand his parents’ disappointment and if they found out about Sapphire and how she ended up in his house they definitely will be disappointed in him. So when his parents decided to come to his home for a visit, he commanded Sapphire to remind in her room and don’t come out, like she is his dirty secret. But who’s gonna listen to him!? Definitely not Sapphire! So now the rules are gonna change! She just wanted to be equal in the house! She wanted him to treat her like a human being and it’s not too much, right!? But apparently, for arrogant Conway, it’s too much (and I still liked him)!

Well, I liked this one as much as the first one! And Sapphire is still my fave character! She is stubborn and smart! I liked that she got what she wanted (but not so easily she tries and works for what she wants and she doesn’t stop until she gets it). I liked Conway too, he’s a likable a$$hole. Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s well-written and a queek read. It’s the second installment in the "Lingerie" series, it should be read in order and it ends with a mild cliffhanger. Looking forward to reading the third one! Overall, I really enjoyed it and hope you like it as well!

Okay now, LET ME SPEAK FROM MY HEART.

OMG. I keep swooning over this hero the 2nd book in a row... so embarrassing🤭. Do I have to mention he is actually a sexist and acts like an entitled jerk h̶a̶l̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶ all the time?
I am amazed how the author managed to make him so likeable despite everything.
The way he acts around his mama is SOOO sweet, the way he cares about his sister🥺😍 just let me kiss this darling🥰
It's way too adorable to watch how Conway cannot help but agree to the heroine's "requests" concerning their relationship that contradict his assholish ways. Boy has he fallen hard! The heroine surely knows how to take advantage of that, haha, go girl!

This is one of the few heroes out there who show their admiration and pride for their girl so openly and without a hint of embarrassment. THAT'S WHAT I CALL HOT as fuck if you ask me. Conway is also faithful never looking at other women type which is the definition of Hotness.

I am such a sucker for jerk heroes with a soft spot for their woman and family.

Up to date I've really hated nearly every book with this trope when, you know, some rich ass guy buys the girl CAUSE, well, lack of emotional aspect in most of such stories😔 (and let's be honest, this trope is fucked up no matter from which side you look at it, hahaha).

This book features lots of smut but at the same time I felt this emotional connection that my romantic soul craves.

Nothing much happened in this book, it certainly focuses more on relationship development than on anything else... but I was invested DEEPLY in the main characters' lives in spite of this lack of actual "action".

DNF @ 7% - the writing is still super robotic and the hero is still a prick, and not the sexy kind. He’s about as shallow as a puddle. And his being nice to his mom makes his attitude and actions toward the h worse, not better, for me. He’s an entitled mommas boy who is a sex addict and only cares about outward appearance. I just can’t.

If his fidelity is only because he’s obsessed with the most physically perfect woman he’s every seen, what happens when he gets bored and find another more perfect woman? Or what if the h gets pregnant? A man this hung up on a very particular physical perfection would never be cool with misshapen bellies, widening hips, sagging breast, and stretch marks.

Oh… and he’s still hanging out with naked models and let’s them hang all over him enough that he shows up at home with their makeup on his clothes. He says he’s not screwing them, so I guess it’s ok 🤷🏼‍♀️ He also tells the h that he’ll f*ck anyone he wants anytime he wants and he won’t be using condoms with her no matter who else he screws. 🥹 Swoon.

MMM MMM. I'm so into this series. Conway is very much like daddy, more than he knows. Stubborn and in denial, oozing sex appeal, a soft spot for his lady. And his family. Sapphire has guts though to stand up for all she wants and feels she deserves.

You have to read these in order, they aren't stand alones. I love when they go visit his parents. Hearing Conway's dad talk about his mother is still just totally swoonworthy. This book packed a lot of heat, and these two are building such a strong emotional connection that you can't help but be affected by it. Bring on book 3 pretty please!

“I never should have underestimated this woman. She managed to escape from Knuckles in the first place and get hired as one of my models. She was able to win me over, to convince me to buy her for a hundred million dollars. She was no average person.
Looked like I’d met my match.” Conway

Hmmm, meehhh...
Here we see the second book by Conway and Sapphire, the connection between these two is wonderful, the hot scenes and their sexual tension don't even mention it. But I missed something, I don't know, I think that because I loved the main series, Buttons, so much, I created expectations for this one, and until then I found the book without many emotions in relation to the plot,it just talks a little more about the sexual tension between the two and some disagreements.
I don't know if it will continue like this, but I hope that in the middle of 15 books in a series there will at least be emotion, because no one deserves to read this much book just with sexual tension involved...

Overall, I did enjoy the Lingerie series, probably because I'm a sucker for alpha males (in books, let's be clear :p). However, these books had too many mistakes, too many repetitions, sometimes a paragraph was placed twice in the same book, a whole paragraph! How does that even happen??? I felt like the author thought I was stupid or had a very bad memory because she kept repeading why the characters were attracted to each other, why they couldn't be together, why it was wrong to love each other, etc. Writing four books for the same couple is just absurd and unncessary here, one book for one story would have been enough!
Also the characters had the same way of talking, the same personnalities, the author literally toke the same characters but changed their physics and their background story a little bit and bam she had a new book.

However, I feel like this series could have some potential if she made it shorter, worked on her characters and had an editor (because I guess she doesn't have one?).

I opted for the audio book because Michael is an AH-MAZING narrator! The actual story....so disappointing. It is a romance with absolutely NOTHING to offer. Conway begged more than Keith Sweat. Beg, beg, beg, beg! Uggghhh I'm so upset! I don't think Conway is a tenth of the alpha his dad is in the first series. Hopefully this installment is a build-up. I plan to finish the series because I hear Bones' son is coming a calling real soon now, ya hear?

"Buttons and Betrayal" by Penelope Sky, the second installment in her gripping series, continues the tumultuous and passionate journey of Conway and Sapphire, delving deeper into themes of love, power, and resilience. Fans of the series will find themselves even more enthralled with this sequel, which expertly blends steamy romance with emotional depth. In this book, Conway's character is explored in layers that reveal him to be every bit his father's son—stubborn, fiercely protective, and irresistibly charismatic. His evolution from the domineering businessman to a man who is deeply in love is compelling and feels incredibly genuine. Conway's undeniable sex appeal mixed with his growing soft spot for Sapphire turns him into a character you can't help but root for, despite—or perhaps because of—his complex persona. Sapphire, on the other hand, is portrayed with remarkable strength and clarity. Her courage to stand up for what she wants and believes she deserves makes her an admirable protagonist. Her gutsiness not only in her relationship with Conway but also in navigating the threats that loom over her life is a testament to Sky's ability to write strong female characters who command respect. The dynamics within Conway’s family, especially the scenes where they visit his parents, add a rich layer to the narrative. These moments are heartwarming and serve to ground the story, providing a break from the intensity of the main plot. Hearing Conway's father reminisce about his love for Conway's mother is particularly moving and adds a beautiful dimension to the story, reinforcing themes of enduring love.

What can I say? I loved it.

Sapphire is a bad ass bitch and I love her personality and Conway--wow, just wow! I think he tries so hard to hide behind his tough exterior but he is the Teddy Bear he claims to be.

I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold in more of intimate way. Sapphire laid down the law and Conway had no other choice but to obey even though sometimes he forgot or demanded he would never change.

Their sexual chemistry was off the charts, I told my friend I had to take a bath just to clean myself up and calm down! I don't remember Crow and Pearl or Cane and Adeline ever making me feel that intensely, I definitely felt something but not like that.

There is a lot that I am curious of, especially now that she has another option on the table--I wonder how it is all going to play out. His father gave him some good advice about making sure he told her what he really felt so she doesn't leave him. In my opinion, I do think that Conway treats her wonderfully even though he can be hard and cruel, it's just his personality and he is trying. The things he tells her makes me swoooonnn!

Especially towards the end of the book after they dropped off Vanessa and Carter, when she told him how she felt about his family.

I can't wait for the third book!

This second book in the series takes their relationship to a new level. While we know that Sapphire was strong and smart and was not going to let her situation define her, Conway didn’t know that and we have an interesting story from here on out. She’s the one person who’s able to challenge Conway, who’s about push him and get him to begin to admit things to himself and that benefits both of them.

His work has never been so inspired, and he is putting out more product than ever before. There’s more demand for him and that’s all because of his Muse. There’s a downside to this however, they both become incredibly jealous of one another. We know that Sapphire HATES when his models get too close, still not trusting that he’s not with anyone else. Conway on the flip side is beyond protective, and we know that it’s a Barsetti trait that will never go away. Given the threat that Carter voiced regarding Knuckles, there’s a reason that Sapphire gets limited freedom.

And this is where Crow, Pearl and Vanessa play a big role. Now that Sapphire forced her way into the family, and they adore her, she’s able to get more and more from Conway. To push his boundaries, to get freedoms. It’s nice to see what her life is becoming.

Where we find ourselves in this story’s end is that there’s an offer on the table that may take Sapphire away from Conway, and he had been shielding her from that offer. Knowing the type of woman that she is, we’re likely going to see heart break and betrayal at the beginning of the next book because it seems like it’s an offer she can’t turn down.

The other bit that i want to note in this story is that the dynamic between our mains continues to be unique to what we’ve read in all the other series so far. There’s an innocence sure, but there’s a bit of power swapping here that’s different than what i’ve read before. Sapphire doesn’t use the same tactics that Pearl or Adelina did, or any of the other ladies to be honest. She has a different approach and one that’s grounded in the life that she lost, and it’s something that works here….most of the time. So i guess now the only way to see what happens, if there’s a way to come back from the impeding betrayal and at what cost….if Knuckles will find her when she’s out of Conway’s grasp, …we must read on

Y Dios, me he emocionado al ver a Lars tan mayor.

Like father, like son!

Firstly, and importantly, if you haven’t already ready Penelope’s ‘Button Series’, I strongly urge you to do so before reading the ‘Beyond Buttons’ series because you really do need to know about the history of the Barsetti family and just how much these Barsetti men fight their feelings!

Conway Barsetti is the carbon copy of his father. Stubborn, powerful, and intensely passionate… especially in the bedroom department. But most frustratingly, they very similarly mistake their deep affection and need for the woman in their arms as nothing for than good sex and companionship.

To everyone else, it is glaringly obvious that Conway is besotted with his muse, Sapphire. The only one refusing to see just how deep that obsession lies is Conway himself. Love isn’t something he’s ever wanted or needed, except from his family… but that’s different, that’s family. As much as he knows he can’t let Sapphire go, he continually pushes her affection away.

It’s not until he crosses the line and Sapphire is the one pushing him away that he begins to understand that he is only half a man without her. He still can’t admit that he loves her, even though it’s true, but rather than lose her he knows he must give her everything she wants. Which isn’t hard, because, well… he loves her.

Whilst this book isn’t left on a cliffhanger, it does hint that there’s a gathering storm on the horizon. Another man is moving in on Conway’s muse and something tells me that there is more to this man than meets the eye. He’s willing to pay a high price to take her off Conway, but will she accept? Will she realise that love is priceless?

Unfortunately, I don’t think this person will take no as answer… and I’m a little worried for this complicated but beautiful couple.

Yet another great instalment in this fantastic follow-on series. Always full of twists, turns, ups and downs. Well done Penelope… you never fail to keep my pages turning.

This series has captivated me, and I am really enjoying reading about Conway and Sapphire (Muse). Conway is an enigma of a man, but he is very close to his family—family means everything to him. He never wants to disappoint his parents. “People could think whatever they wanted about me. But my family was a different story. Their approval meant a lot to me. I couldn’t stand my parents’ disappointment. If my father knew I was keeping Muse against her will, he’d beat me to the brink of death.”
After Sapphire (Muse) meets Conway’s parents, he knows that he will have to give in to some of Muse’s demands because he is concerned that she might tell his parents what he has done—purchased Muse from underground human trafficking. Now, Conway has Muse living with him, but he finds that she is smart, stubborn, and she knows how to manipulate him. Conway and Sapphire’s chemistry is off-the-chart HOT!! Conway and Sapphire both have feelings for each other, but they are reluctant to show it—especially since Conway does not do relationships or fall in love. When Muse received a suspicious phone call, will she find herself at a crossroad again putting herself in danger with the villain, Knuckles, or will she trust Conway and inform him what happened? Why is Muse’s life in danger with Knuckles? What does the mystery called want. Well, read the story to find out!

My thoughts on this series so far, compared to the original. It’s much more tame. At least so far… not much sinister things have happened.

I’m not sure what to think of Conway. He’s a good person really. I don’t know of what he knows of his Parents past and the circumstances they met under.
I don’t understand why he is, the way he is. He’s had a good upbringing and a happy childhood. A good example of love between his parents. But yet, he can be damn cold.

Side note: I think the author (Penelope) did a good job at capturing the original ‘Buttons’ series’ older versions of themselves personalities.

I think that Sapphire isn’t asking him a very important question. Which is; why he was at the auction? And how involved is he in the underworld.

In the beginning of the book, I feel they’d lost all their chemistry the moment they had sex.
But found it again when Conway started being more intimate and open.
On occasions, he’s got that thing about him. The characters you see in films, like a sleezy photographer doing a photoshoot sleeping with clients.

Unexpected turn of events with the lingerie competitor offering her a job.
She will take it, Conway reluctantly let her go. Get herself into trouble with ‘Knuckles’. At this point he won’t care of her debt, it’s about pride. At least that’s my prediction.

I’ve read the previous series (buttons and lace) to know roughly at what stage the books start to pick up and action starts to get involved and it’s usually when getting halfway through a storyline/series but unfortunately, this book was such a let down.

It was such a filler book with nothing significant happening? We got lovey dovey scenes between Conway and Sapphire but that was about it (which I don’t mind but this usually happens in the last book like in Cane and Adelina’s set of books). Even then, it was very surface level and a lot of the fights between them started to get repetitive.

Also, at this stage, I was expecting Knuckles to crash in just by the end and kickstart the action for the next book and setting up this opportunity to dedicate majority of book three towards Sapphire maybe getting kidnapped and tortured by him and Conway swooping in to save her (which could still happen but I assumed that would happen towards the end of book two).

However, all we got was a lingerie company demanding to buy her off of Conway? Seriously? She did one show and suddenly she’s the model of the century…As much as I love Sapphire, this element was so shallow for someone so driven.

I hope the next two books make up for this because I love this author and I’m disappointed that this book was very boring and bland compared to the buttons and lace series and Muse in lingerie.

Beauty in Lingerie is the second instalment in the Lingerie Series by Penelope Sky.

After the events in the last book where Conway (the world renown lingerie designer) has bought Sapphire for hundred million dollars as his new pet (saving her from her tormentor Knuckles, but also making sure that there isn’t any chance of her leaving him again as she is his inspiration for his most brilliant creations in his collection and wants to make so much more).

Sapphire is trying to settle in her new life as Conway’s pet and her new lifestyle but with knowing she is possibly to live the rest of her life with Conway, she finds herself having expectations from him such as respect, friendship and loyalty. And so this becomes the biggest hurdle that the two have to overcome in this book as Conway had is own when he bought her that are very far from her’s but Sapphire has a few tricks up her sleeve that might make Conway see he’s just met his match.

This was a great sequel to this series, I would 100% recommend this to those look for either a billionaire romance or are fans of Penelope Sky’s previous series. You must read Muse in Lingerie to start this! I cannot wait to find out what happens in Lady in Lingerie after that phone call!

The Barsetti’s are BACK! Oh my how I have missed this family. Yes, this is book 2 of the next generation and you really don’t need to have read the Button books to enjoy this series, but for me it brings back fond memories of the prior generation of characters.

Conway isn’t relationship material (like father like son) and Muse is not going to give him her heart and have him destroy her, so while she meets his demands, she holds back. Turns out that he can’t work with that like he thought he could. She ends up meeting his family and she loves them and they love her which then puts Conway in the position of either telling the truth and letting his parents down or going along with the lie.

I really enjoyed book 2 and the way Muse/Sapphire is showing strength to stand up to Conway. And I love how Conway is slowly beginning to realize that she is going to break through his tough shell. I can’t wait to see what happens next in their journey.

Beauty In Lingerie is book two in the newly released Lingerie Series by Penelope Sky.

It picks up right where Muse In Lingerie finishes off with Conway and Sapphire 'Muse' each trying to figure where they each stand in their arrangement.

Conway is still treating Sapphire like a toy and every time she tries to have a say in their arrangement he throws the hundred million dollars in her face. Sapphire wants to be treat like an equal, wants to be Conways friend and she know just how to do achieve that - use his love for his family to her advantage.

With things being different in their arrangement, will feelings start to show between the two?

I love that Sapphire is starting to come out of her shell and get stronger as a person. She knows she could never repay Conway for what he's done for her, but she wants to try. And Conway is loosening his hold on her slightly, letting her do more of the things she wants to and realising that there may be some good in him after all.

I can't wait for the next part in this series, Lady in Lingerie to see where this storyline is going to take us next.
