I’m going to start by reiterating what a previous reviewer said. This book has promise. Dreia has written an interesting storyline and she has well developed characters. It was an entertaining short read. I also think this story is a great beginning for a newer author. Neveah, Tia, and the other daughters are all strong, modern young women who were dealt a shitty hand by their ancestor, but I like that it didn’t keep them from trying to live their lives. Neveah already has a really strong loving relationship with her fiancé Xavier even though some pretty large secrets come to light after she’s chosen to deal with the fallout of her ancestors deal. I like Xavier a lot, but I think he got off too easy on the secret he held, I would’ve needed to yell at him for a while longer. I also like that this book is multi POV and not just with the standard female and male main character but also their main supporting characters like her cousin and “Shade”.
That being said, the reason for the 3 star review is that the story was lacking some depth and realistic interactions between characters. Every event was just instantaneous and we missed out on little details that would’ve expanded the plot and character development. Our fmc Neveah seems like nothing can rattle her because she continues to take all these life changing things in stride with just a few mentions of being angry or scared. I wish there had been more consistent descriptive writing, like I still don’t have a really clear picture in my head of what each of the characters other than Nev look like, but I know their family home is Shakespeare inspired. There also were several grammar and spelling errors.
I’m hoping to see more into their lives in book 2. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
First book from a new author. A good base to build upon.
This novella is the first in the Owenson Witches series and falls in the Paranormal Romance (PNR) genre. It is the first offering from new author, Dreia Wells.
Let me start this review by saying that I liked this story. It has promise. The characters are solid and can be developed further. It’s a good base to build upon and I’m interested to see where she takes it from here.
I’ve given it three stars because it’s not quite polished enough. The story needs to be expanded upon. The framework is there but it needs to be fleshed out more. The characters need more depth. The novella could have done with beta readers and proofreaders. The credits acknowledged an editor but there were several grammar, punctuation and spelling errors which should have been picked up as part of the editorial process.
All in all, I would give book two a chance and I hope that the author gets a lot more support through the editorial process for that book than they got with this one.
Getting to know an author who is new to me is always fun! Dreia Wells didn't disappoint! This story is about family, curses, and someone is coming to collect a promise that had been made over a hundred years ago.
I like the vibe between the family members, and I'm sure this will be explored in the next instalments (which I bought right after ending this book). Secrets unfold and do not stay without consequences. Looking forward to book 2!
This was a great introduction to what’s gonna be a great series. This is a short story explaining what you will need to know for the other books. It took me by surprise I honestly didn’t know how I felt about reading this book. But I was hooked and loved reading it. I highly recommend reading this book if you love witches and paranormal with a mix of romance. I really enjoyed this book.
For a debut novel this book was packed with gems. The author has a clear vision for her story and I appreciated her plot, setting, narrative and voice. I could disengage and just get swept away by a good story.
Wow. From the first chapter I was hooked. I really enjoyed the multiple POV's and not just from the MC's. I was not expecting for Neveah to transition but it makes sense. I couldn't helping feeling emotionally attached to the characters especially Xavier. I also love how witches aren't shunned by the angels like a lot of popular beliefs. I can't wait for the next book. 😍

If I could give this 6 stars I would!! A PNR romance with all sorts of shifters, angels and even Lucifer himself. I binged it in an hour and 15 minutes as it's just SO good. Dreia, you are an incredible author!!
This book has a lot of potential, certainly for a first time author. The characters were well developped and the story line is interesting. However I did find the story to be lacking detail. Everything was going by so quickly and a lot of questions left unanswered. I am however looking forward to the next book in the series to answer those said questions
I really enjoyed the multi POV, the whole Lucifer coming to get the FMC, and the magic angel\demon theme. I couldn't really put the book down. Can't wait for the next book
The author said, “To all the readers who stumbled upon this book and decided to give it a go...”. Well I stumbled across this book and decided to give it a go. To my great surprise and pleasure I enjoyed it! The storyline was original and exciting. I was pulled in from the beginning with the origin story. Strong and powerful magic is weaved into the Owensen bloodline for generations bestowing upon them many gifts and abilities. Lucifer, in playing the long game, has finally gained a foothold and seized an opportunity to get access to the families power by making a shady marriage deal with a desperate ancestor. He’s now come to collect his due. The Owensens are I’ll equipped and prepared for him and his plans and it’s a scramble to protect the chosen one and prevent his plan. Very well written! There’s shifters, witches, demons, hellhounds, angels, nephillim and more! The sense of urgency, angst, fear, uncertainty, and anger make for a very intense setting the story is taking place in. I am extremely happy that I took a chance on this book and I will continue reading the series. I’m now invested. You should take the chance too! Excellent read!
This book had a potential to be really great but it was way to fast and the dialogue seemed to be very inexperienced. I’m use to reading fantasy books that provides more depth and create a plot and dialogue that flows naturally, relatable and well written.
It was cool but it’s not on my reading level and hopefully this author gains more experience and constructs the next books appropriately. The book seemed rushed.. there are more then a few ways to improve. It almost felt as if I was reading a book written by a child. The world building could’ve been better, the FMC could’ve been developed more maturely, the dialogue could’ve expanded to give more depths, the hairless dialogue could have been excluded.. I can go on and on..
Although I read this book in its entirety, I was bored through the majority of the book which was very short.. Good luck on your next books but my expectations are high compared to what I have read by other authors and where I’m at as far as my reading capabilities.. so I will not continue to read from this author as of now
It was not a bad story but I feel like it was rushed. I guess this may count as a “novella” 🤷🏽♀️ the plot was good! And I’m definitely interested in how things are going to turn out. But I felt like it literally rushed everything into happening. One min the devil is at her door, next sue founds out she has super powers, then they’re on a battle… then she’s gone! I think if the pace was slowed down just a bit I would’ve enjoy this a bit more. Also this doesn’t really seem like a story about witches. There’s shape shifters yes… there’s angels and devils yes… I don’t get the witch vibe much at all except maybe from the elders. I hope there is more to come in the next book.
I was hooked from the first page and the storyline drew me in. This was an incredible story with witches who made a deal with the devil and how the devil finally comes to collect. I definitely look forward to reading the next to see where the story goes.
If you like paranormal romance with witches, demons and angels then I recommend reading this book.
The clock is ticking on a prophecy and the witches aren't playing the long game like Lucifer/Shade. And he is shady boots in this book 😏 There was a lot of setup for less than 200 pages but I'm strapped in for the ride. I'm fascinated by the setup and biblical references.
This book uses spirit animals, and I'm not sure it was the best way to describe a shifter.
CN: dub con, manipulation, family secrets, death of child
I have read many books by Dreia Wells and I usually really enjoy them. I am repeatedly impressed with her ability to write shorter, complete stories with great characters development.
Unfortunately, this one I did not enjoy. I just did not connect with the characters and the plot is a little too unstructured for me. This is book 1 of a 3 book series, but I probably won’t read the other two books.
I found out about Ms. Wells through her Hellnight Series and Queen of Arcadia Series. Those were some intense reads. Now I am in The Owenson Witches. This is getting up to intense very quickly. I figured someone would betray Nev. I have feeling that the betrayal was set into motion with the one night stand. And Archangel Michael, there is some weirdness there. This is worth your time.
When I say this book kept my attention from beginning to end. I was a couch potato for a good 2 hours because I was determined to know what happened. Neveah was not ready for the turn her life was about to take, when she found out she was the chosen instead of her sister Tempest. She is to marry Xavier but Shade/Lucifer had different plan for her life, and will use any and everybody to get to her ever her own family.
I like the premise of the story and the direction of where it was heading. It was a little confusing with how fast everything happened and not a lot of detail to it, but the characters were interesting. I liked the play on angels and demons mixed with witches and magic. Overall it was a decent read.
Dreia Wells has done it again! Every time I dive into one of her books, she pulls me in with her captivating storytelling and unforgettable characters. I’ve yet to be disappointed, and this latest read only cements her place on my must-read list. If you haven’t picked up a Dreia Wells book yet, you’re truly missing out!
It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't the best I've read either. However, I was intrigued by the storyline and did quite in fact enjoy it. I am looking forward to the next one I need to know how it all pans out.
This book isbthebstart to the series about a curse placed on the Owensen witches. Their ancestor made a deal with the devil now they have to find a way out. Neavah is the one the devil choices. A prophecy is revealed and there is betrayal. You will need more.
It’s kind of like Charmed when Phoebe fell in love with Cole. Looking forward to the next one! I thought the story was engaging. I’m hoping with the next one we’re getting more backstory.
The book progresses at such a nice pace. The characters are so interesting and varied. This far the story is simply keeping me guessing what’s next. I couldn’t stop turning pages and ready for the next in this series.
