A joyful and pensive reading experience, complex and simple at the same time. While anyone can enjoy these poems, I do think that those from Vermont and the Upper Valley will, and are meant to, understand them in a more intimate way. I also find it special, as is the case with lots of writing about Northern New England, that this is written through the seasons. It is because we feel them so acutely here, and truly mark our lives by how the seasons shift. Some of my favorite poems from this book include: Garage Sale, The Sloping Meadow, Muddy Road, Old Stalks, Don't Go, To Bed, How It Is, and Patience
This is a best book of poetry that I have read in years. I could feel the places she writes about. It is very Vermont, so perhaps it will not appeal to those who have not experienced this great state.
