St. Patrick's Day and Easter go head-to-head in this hilarious holiday mash-up (with a special sparkly cover)!
It was only a matter of time. When two holidays are this close together, there are bound to be a few...disagreements. Now two sneaky rivals, Leprechaun and Easter Bunny, must battle over the perfect hill for hiding a pot of gold or an Easter egg, and no one is backing down. Whose holiday will reign supreme? Find out in this rowdy, rhyming celebration of Easter and St. Patrick’s Day!
This book came to my attention for a similar reason that The Nightmare Before Christmas keeps cropping up into conversations. In that case, the question is the movie a Halloween film or a Christmas film? Yes, yes, an endless debate (personally, I think of it as a Thanksgiving movie). Here we have the question of whether this should be filed under the section heading for St Patrick’s Day or under the one for Easter? Having read this book, a new wrinkle emerges: is this a Valentine Day’s book? 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ Who cares? Buy three copies, files a copy under each holiday. Whatever. As for the book itself? Meh. Basically two entitled neighbors (okay technically three) are mean to each other, and there’s no real resolution. Not the greatest messaging.
It was fun to read, as we are in between St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, but there’s no real resolution —the two feuding neighbors sort of become friends only because of their mutual disdain for the Valentine’s Day cherub— so there’s no positive message for kids (Not every children’s book needs a moral, but this one sets itself up to need one and then just doesn’t care enough to find a way for the two characters to accept, compromise, or otherwise resolve their differences.
Apparently this is the first in a series of feuding holiday mascots. I suppose I’ll give another one a shot, but if it’s more or less the same then I’ll be writing off the series.
This was the perfect book to read right now. It is just shy of St. Patrick's Day when I read this, and much like the plot, it fit perfectly.
Leprechaun is gearing up for his spot to hide his gold, when the Easter Bunny shows up. What follows? A hilarious hijinks for each to one-up the other. Who will come out as the Top Holiday? Find out.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed Todd Tarpley's wit and Steph Laberis' vibrant and cartoonish illustrations (felt a little bit Looney Tunes nostalgic in humor and style) and I absolutely loved it.
I would give this book 10 stars if I could!!! The Easter Bunny and the Leprechaun were 'enemies' so to say, fighting against each other for the same spot of land. Bunny wanted to use it to hide his eggs, but the Leprechaun wanted to hide his pot of gold there! But when Cupid shows up, will Leprechaun and Easter Bunny join forces to plot against Cupid? This has to be one of my absolute favorite Easter books out there! It's so much fun! (Honestly, it could also be for St. Patrick's Day and St. Valentine's as well!) The illustrations are so cute and match the book perfectly! Follow @bronteandwilder on Instagram for more fun book recommendations!
What a fun little book. It totally reminds me of Looney Tunes told in Rhyme. Some years Easter and St. Pats day are sort of close, like this year. This book has the two duking it out together.
The artwork is hyper-colorful and bright. It seems to perfect and yet there is this silly feud going on. I think kids will love this one. I was thinking it wouldn't be all that great. Does it have value - not really, accept that it's fun! It's entertaining.
Also, Cupid shows up in the middle of this. I have to say, this book gave me a chuckle. It's funny. Looney Tunes were more violent, but this uses slap stick comedy.
Brief summary: A leprechaun and the Easter Bunny battle over the space in a garden. The leprechaun wants to hide his pot of gold for St. Patrick's Day, and the Easter bunny wants to grow tulips to hide colored eggs. Cupid comes along and wants to make plans for next year's Valentine's Day, moving all of their things out of the way. The two join forces and launch the baby out of the garden. Rhyming
If you like books where one holiday symbol fights with another, then this is the book for you. A leprechaun and an Easter bunny try to get rid of each other in order to prepare for his own holiday. However, they come together when an interfering Cupid shows up. Very cute digital cartoon illustrations make up for the story of not-getting-along. Also, the cover has embedded glitter, so it is very shiny.
The Leprechaun and Easter Bunny battle each other for the same space and attention. Readers will enjoy the humor as they try to out sneak the other. Then, Cupid shows up and they unite to keep him from stealing their area for the next year. The character expressions are terrific and capture the action.
Oh, absolutely not. This book lost me in the first 7 pages with "but when he bent over, the leprechaun pushed him facedown in the clover." This was only the first of three physical assaults in a battle of brawn instead of brains amongst three non-essential holiday characters (cupid baby included). It's mean-spirited and not clever, as would be expected from these starring characters.
It's a funny story with a good rhyme scheme. I like that it ties two holidays in time together, but I don't really like their resolution. However, I think the kids will like it, so that's what matters.
The kids really love these VERSUS books by Todd Tarpley. They love the crazy shenanigans between the two characters feuding and this one is just as funny as the others.
Leprechaun wants to celebrate St Patrick's Day and Easter Bunny wants to use the same plot of land to prepare for Easter. They have a big fight but join forces when Cupid shows up to start preparing for next year's Valentine's Day.
A tale told in rhyme about when two holidays are too close for comfort, and starts a battle for prime real estate and location as a Leprechaun and the Easter Bunny both vie for the perfect hill to hide their wares and goodies.
