The amount of money I think I saved on speaking with a therapist alone has made this book a completely wonderful purchase, and a fantastic read. We all wrestle with putting our lives into focus, understanding it all, and how to get the most out of it. It's an easy thing to believe you're the first to deal with big issues and ideas confronting you, and feel ill-equipped to deal with it all...but there has been a long history of philosophers who've put the time in already, and come up with brilliant lenses for us all to look at life through and better understand and deal with it all - this book breaks those philosophers ideas down and lays them out in a clear and concise way. I've read the book once...but it is the kind of book you'll read in fits and starts again and again over the years.

Remarkable and concise master class in philosophy. The author has the rare ability to distill thousands of years of wisdom into succinct, relatable and helpful instruction. She brings each philosopher to life as your personal spiritual guru, college professor and life coach.

Each section gives a beautifully written overview of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy, then provides questions for personal inquiry and guidance on how to apply it.

This book has helped me understand the origin and historical timeline of the many schools of thought present today. The lessons allow me to draw greater meaning from my meditation practice

I highly recommend this book!

What a fantastic book! Great if you’re familiar with philosophy or just getting started down the path. The highlighted philosopher sections encompass numerous viewpoints for a broad range of ideals, and opportunities to expand your understanding, think introspectively and cultivate inspiration. Each section is followed by questions where you can take the information learned and implement it to your own life. Philosophy wise is the perfect combination of education and self help.

As a student of philosophy I’m beyond impressed by Elkholy’s ability to make available complex ideas. The book includes heavy hitters in Western, Eastern, moral and social thought. At the end of each chapter is a guidance section where she has each philosopher speak to you about use idea in your everyday life. Kudos for making deep ideas relevant and accessible and for presenting us with timeless wisdom in place of today’s disposable and celebrity lifestyles.

This book is a wonderful key to understand major world philosophies. Without having to dive deep into each philosopher's works I could glean the essence. Very well researched and written, Highly recommend this book to all students of the world!

Poorly written. Redundant even within each paragraph. Philosophers chosen speaks of the author's personal politics/agenda rather than significance and impact of the philosophies. Felt like the author wanted to add validity or bolster some minor league "talking heads" by placing them among Kant, Aristotle, Buddha. Not recommended.

One does not have to agree with each (or any) of the thinkers Elkholy includes in her unique and interesting book to enjoy it and learn a great deal. Her examination and descriptions of the thinkers she includes, 19 of them I believe, help the reader understand some complex minds in not only everyday language and via modern thinking, but also translates for us the various philosophies into a way to understand the ideas psychologically--as in how we live our examined personal lives. A monumental feat indeed.

Read, wrangle with the ideas, argue with the philosophers in your head, and figure out where you fit (if anywhere) into this pantheon of minds. I look forward to a "sequel".
