She knows what she wants and has straight goals for her life. I liked the way she reacts after Ford becomes a wolf.

I really liked him. He is caring, possessive and an author (!!!).

This was good but too insta lovy for my liking. I wished there was more time that Ebony spent with Fords wolf. This was an interesting concept in the first book and I think it is entertaining. Still this book was enjoyable and we learned a lot about the world building and more about the werewolf’s.
Ebony and Ford are cute together and both respect each other. They have good tension and I liked them as a couple.
Overall this was a good read.

Much less creepy! Decent story :)

Likes:
Last 70% of the book.

Ford and Ebony like each other before things go Twilight Zone.

Ford goes out of his way to give Ebony choices about her life.

The caste system is explained and it is a different world view than in other shift books, in addition to dialing way back on the misogyny.

Sex scenes are not my thing, but when I read them in a story they are vastly less annoying when they aren’t physically impossible or full of impractical lies any non-virgin is aware of by default. Lola Glass offers the non-annoying version in this story.

One of the nice parts about the author’s books is that she deals with real problems that arise in relationships when flawed people interact with each other. Her characters grow in practical ways, such as when Ford verbally abuses Ebony out of jealousy and she calls him on it and he actually changes how he acts before she accepts his continued attention.

There are also some abbreviated attempts to deal with the evil of choosing to allow a wild animal to be around others knowing it will take over against the free will of the host to kidnap, assault, sexually harass and emotionally abuse an innocent person. Elliot dismisses the evil because the wolf does this so it can have sex and possibly procreate. Kidnapping, assault, and sexual harassment are crimes. Emotional abuse and isolating someone from their friends and family until they accept “marriage” is domestic abuse no matter whose culture is involved. Enforcing celibacy instead of accepting coerced rape is not a crime and it is not abusive. Elliot says they tried and can’t stop the cycle but I think he just lacks imagination. If the pack carries tranquilizers then a wolf suddenly trying to take away the choices of others can have his choices taken away. He can wake up in a room with a glass visiting area and get to know his love interest without the ability to intimidate and coerce her. If he can’t convince her to allow him to inflict a cursed animal on her as well as an unlooked for romantic relationship without kidnapping, intimidation, and social isolation, then their relationship is not based on love to begin with and the human man needs to acknowledge that instead of pretending his behavior is morally acceptable.

Dislikes:
First 30% if the book where the evil plot building runs rampant.

During a world building conversation, Ford has no idea why a non-physically abusive wolf would be rejected by a potential mate and says there is no reason for the girl to reject that other wolf. Ford isn’t educated about what abuse looks like and that is understandable, but it can be fixed. If a wolf kidnaps some girl, he’s already stolen her freedom and enslaved her whether or not that is what he’s calling it, which is a serious crime. In the Old Testament the penalty for kidnapping is death, so any other result that occurs is reached only by the grace of God. When the wolf takes away her personal agency for a year, that is emotional abuse and sets her up to develop PTSD. When the wolf steals her humanity without her consent by inflicting a cursed animal on her, then he has violated her body even without raping her and that’s reason enough for her to refuse sex or marriage without considering the kidnapping and emotional abuse. All she ever really has is herself and he took that without asking. The only surprise is that more of the wolves aren’t rejected.

I do recommend the book with the caveat that the evil is not completely acknowledged or dealt with to the full extent of the abilities of the characters. People use stories to build the world. When something bad happens the brain automatically reviews stories that it knows in dreams, daydreams, and memories to find a way out of the bad situation. The first place people turn to when they are in trouble is to stories that they know, over and above facts they have memorized or philosophies they ought to believe. This is true. Stories are made of the stuff of life and that’s why it is important to hold on to stories that honor truth and display sincere, authentic love. No one is perfect, but I would say Lola Glass hits the nail on the head 80-90% of the time, which is why I often enjoy reading her books. I encourage other readers to read her other books because even if you don’t agree with some of what she says, her catalog is worth your time.

Liked this one a lot!! More than the last one. This one was a solid 4 if not more.

I loved how FMC had anxiety, talked it out, they actually dealt with relationship issues like real adults here and communication.

This is a good NA paranormal romance and this is Ebony and Ford’s story. It’s a slow burn romance filled with sarcasm, sass and humour. It’s a short quick read and it’s a good one.

4.5 stars. This story continues on immediately after the first but stands mostly alone. Ebony, the female lead, has been abducted by her ex-roommate and her boyfriend and his friends because one of his friends, Ford, the male lead, started shifting into a wolf when they made eye contact. She’s told that he’s claimed her as his mate and he’ll be sticking with her until his wolf believes she’ll accept him, then he’ll bite her. She’s not thrilled with any of it but, gradually, he grows on her and they start to actually form a relationship.

This story is female lead POV (honestly, my only issue with it - I really prefer dual POV), well written, and a really interesting story, providing a genuinely different story from the first one, which was awesome. I liked Ford, I liked Ebony, I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed the family interactions with the “pack”, I enjoyed to the point of chuckling many of the lead characters’ interactions, I enjoyed the intimate scenes. Yep, genuinely great, just would have been better for me with some male lead POV.

And looking forward to the next one! Great setup.

The start was interesting but it seemed to fall into a rut when the male lead changes back, which he does in the beginning of the story. The entire thing is told from the perspective of Ebony, the female main. I’m assuming that she is a POC because of the cover, there’s no real description of her. Ford, the male lead, was tall, had brown skin, a tight behind and a big ‘package’, that’s all that was said. Outside of the lack of descriptive characteristics it’s pretty standard rinse, wash repeat; study, eat and have poorly done steamy moments. There’s no real meat to it. No real conflict. It is an interesting premise but it needs more.

As a standalone, this is a sweet werewolf romance. I think it struggles to differentiate itself from the first story. The characters are a little too similar, the situation too similar. It's basically the same story: high achieving nursing student gets chosen as a mate for a hot, geeky, high achieving werewolf guy; gets taken to werewolf town; settles in pretty easily but struggles with juggling classes with being a werewolf mate; falls in love; the end. Book 1 and Book 2 are so similar that the same book description could be used for both books.

So put some space between the Mate Hunt books so that it feels fresher. I really like Lola Glass and her writing, so I'm being generous on my rating. I'm just not sure the Mate Hunt concept is strong enough to support a 4-5 book series.

4 1/2 ⭐️ s!! ❤️ the humor and take on werewolves

This is the second book of the Mate Hunt series, and I personally DO NOT CONSIDER this to be a STAND-ALONE read. I HIGHLY recommend these be read in series order, as they contain multiple reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines (begins as soon as the previous one ended), and interwoven themes so a lot of details that occurred previously would be lost, as they cannot be adequately explained within another story.

— If you have not read any of the stories in this series, the following will contain spoilers, but hopefully only enough to adequately explain my opinions, questions, etc. about the story. —

Lola Glass created an unique origin story for werewolves that involved a witch and resulted in two separate beings in a shared body. When the wolf is in charge the human can see what is happening, but cannot communicate, or control, the animal that will act on instinct. Because of how werewolves evolved, only males are born, so when the wolf finds its mate, the reaction is immediate and that starts a 3 phase ritual: Hunt, Chase and Climax. This is what necessitates the kidnapping of the human female for most of them, as the wolf will not shift back until he marks his chosen mate.

⛔️ There are a couple of potential triggers for sensitive readers, such as adult language, semi-steamy intimate scenes, mental health challenges of depression, anxiety, etc., and violence with a semi-fight. There is one scene that shows the potential 💔 all werewolves fear with the loss of a sibling for one of Ford’s pack mates.

For a PNR especially, I consider this to be really clean. There isn’t any fighting or killing between packs — they don’t even have pack names! — the intimate scenes aren’t very detailed, just contains a little steam in the few of them included in the story, and the Climax phase of their mating isn’t included at all (feel a little cheated on that). Still want more details and descriptions of the characters and story universe, but overall, I am enjoying my visits to Moon River.

Lola changed up the 3 phase ritual with Ebony’s and Ford’s story, especially since she wasn’t ’kidnapped’ it gave it a ‘lighter’ feel. They are funny, quirky, and have good chemistry from the beginning. Probably because Tea was able to bring Ebony some comfort by already being part of the community, even if Ebony was mad at her for a little while.

The only thing that I didn’t really get was related to Ebony’s ex, Reed. He is a giant, selfish douche that used her for sex and she used to keep the idea that she wasn’t alone. He is convinced that she will come back to being his bed partner and this leads to Ford and Ebony having a tiff. Based on others’ reviews I was expecting something horrible in the way Ford treated Ebony, in actions or words, but I didn’t see anything like that — she is his 👸! Ford asked a question that I would have asked in an elevated voice, but he exercised more control than I would have given the circumstances (LOL a little, not gonna lie). That combined with how much Ebony talks / thinks about Reed (goes on too long imo), and that Ford is supposed to be a possessive, beta wolf (beta’s are guardians that wants to protect everyone), it could and should have been much worse.

As you can probably tell, I am fortunate that I visualize a story as I read it. So the more details the better, but other things can detract as well, such as grammatical errors. There are multiple punctuation issues (mainly around commas) but there was one spot in the beginning that an incorrect time was listed (should have been that night) and when Ford made an ‘executive decision’ that Ebony had already told him to do. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.

A little recap of the story … Ebony was Tea’s roommate and a couple of months after Tea’s mating with Jesse the two of them started meeting weekly for coffee. Jesse always came with her, but sat at another table to give them privacy and Ford was usually with him. Ebony was drawn to Ford, but neither had spoken to the other, although she had asked Tea if he was single several times.

Ebony had been worried over a video that was circulating for a couple of weeks. It was of a man shifting into a dog, yeah right, until Ebony realized it was Tea’s dog! The same dog that Tea had brought into their dorm room! WTF?! Unable to concentrate as much as she needed to on her classes, not sleeping enough, etc., Ebony had a professional videographer look at the recording and he told her it looked authentic.

Ebony knew she needed to show it to Tea, who obviously played it off as fake. Before Ebony left Ford finally came over to the table and looked her in the 👀. This story begins when they are in the car on their way to Moon River … and hilarity ensued (imo). Ebony got into the car (Tea continues to stress it was of her own free will), got sat on by a werewolf, got her phone eaten (neither was her choice) and growled at when said werewolf could smell Reed on her skin … 🤣

The second book was much better than the first! Ebony was a great character and the dynamic in this mate hunt was completely different from Jesse & Teagan's but I kind of expected it as everyone is different. Of course she tried to fight it at first and I honestly would have been surprised if she hadn't. I guess no woman just rolls over. This mate hunt is a huge thing that no woman simply accepts as it is a life changer. She basically has no say. Even in the end it is her wolf that decides how it ends.

Ebony takes it pretty well but I guess she was a bit smitten with Ford before they found out they were mates and as we learn, he was as interested in her as she was in him. That's a good start. And I guess Ebony was more open because she was lonely and kind of wanted to find at least a friend. She had a bad thing going with this Reed guy simple because she doesn't want to be alone and a shitty f** buddy was in her mind better than being alone. It was really kind of sad. I also liked that the first bite happened so early on as she gave in quickly and they both made concessions which helped their mate hunt immensely and she was also pretty openminded.

I also liked that the pack dynamics are better explained here. We learn that there is no pack bond where they can communicate with each other and being Alpha doesn't mean Elliot has the reigns. Everyone in the six-pack group has his own role and there are more packs in the city. Jesse was the Omega, Ford the Beta, Rocco is the Gamma, Dex the Delta and Zed the Sigma. While in other shifter books the humans and their wolves have an inner bond and can communicate, here the human and the wolves cannot and are separate entities. While being human, the wolf watches through their eyes and sees and learns everything that is happening and vice versa when the wolf takes over for the human. It's a quite unique setting or at least I haven't ever read a shifter book like this.

We also learn firsthand what happens when the she-wolf doesn't reciprocate the feelings and rejects the male. It was heartbreaking to witness it and it honestly made me cry. Not sure I ever cried while reading a shifter book but seeing what happens and what it does to the pack and their family and friends, it was brutal. The wolf chooses the female, for him and his human, but if the she-wolf rejects them both and doesn't seal the mate bond by biting, it's basically game over for both human male & wolf while she can find a new mate and start the hunt anew.

I can honestly say that this second book made up for the bumpy start I had with this series - for the time being, not sure what will happen in the next book. But Del already seemed like a cool chick and I really liked Rocco. I just hope that the thing with his brother will not interfere with his mate hunt.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This series has seven books. They are recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content. Each book in this series is steamy connected standalones and follows a different couple with their own happily ever after, and the stories can be read in any order (but recommended to read them in order for best understanding) for they each end with a lead-in to the next couple's book. This is the second standalone book in the Mate Hunt series. This a story about a woman named Ebony and a man named Ford, who is a beta wolf of Moon Ridge. All it took was a sandwich and a growl, because dinner with a friend turned into being abducted by said friend, along with a hot werewolf who claims he's her soulmate. The problem is her mate is trapped in his wolf form until he believes she likes him enough not to reject him when he bites her, and in the process, makes her like him. She doesn't know if she wants to be a werewolf, but she’s also not ready to say goodbye to her life as she knows it. Hopefully she and her mate can figure out a way to make this work, because if they don't, well, nothing good ever comes from rejection. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to read the next story in the series. I highly recommend to everyone.

Great Read

I'm loving the Mate Hunt world that Lola is creating they're such fun and easy reads💖 loved Ford and Ebony's story i laughed a lot throughout this book but damn that park towards the end really pulled on my heartstrings that was rough 💔
Ebony as we know from the first mate hunt book was Teagan's roommate at college and they worked together at the sub shop.
Ford was no stranger to Ebony but they both shyly avoided eachother until their gazes finally met and forced Ford into the Mate Hunt.
Where Tea pushed against the whole idea Ebony embraced it she didn't put up a lot of fight with Fords wolf which seemed to work out a lot better for them and she was to continue on with college mostly the same though their possessiveness was pretty strong and after what happened with Rocco's brother they worried that Ebony's wolf might never claim Ford.
It was great to see how Ebony grew throughout this book with the support of a great man one who showed her what love really meant and how he valued her worth.
I really look forward to Rocco's book and how he will be considering he's struggling a lot when the Mate Hunt took him over.
Definitely Recommend Reading 📚

This book has such a different vibe to the first. I enjoyed both Ebony and Ford’s characters. Ford was so freaking adorable and sweet.
I thought this book was a slow burn like the first one. Boy was I wrong. They went at it already at 30% so I was a bit shocked. But then I appreciated that they slowed things down.
And this book was so damn sad near the end! My word! I was freaking crying. That was quite a horrific scene.
I definitely had a really good time reading this book. This book was still addicting like the first one and I smashed it in one sitting. You just keep turning the page until you’re at the end suddenly.
I definitely enjoyed the first book more. I think I prefer Tea’s humour and oddness. That’s what made the first book so phenomenal in my eyes. There wasn’t too much humour in this book like the previous, and I get that because the books and characters have to be different. But this book kind of dulled in comparison to the first one. It’s still an amazing read, but I just prefer the first one.
I also wanted more time with The Climax! And especially after it! We needed to spend more time there.
Still a really great book! I loved how thoughtful Ford was and his dynamic with Ebony was adorable.

So this is basically a watered down version of the plot from book 1 (down to the whole “so into hot nerd type” & Eragon being some type of book reading status symbol). FMC has to study all the time or she will lose her scholarship. You know, the one she was sooo dedicated to until out of nowhere she was like “ok I could lose my scholarship for you and it is what it is”. Girl. The obsession with food the author has is getting weird tbh. We get it, they’re hungry werewolves. The whole book is basically them trying not to have sex while talking about wanting to have sex, eating SO MUCH FOOD (we get it already), and then having all the sex when they realized 5 seconds after committing to take things slow that they just cannot.
Oh, and Teagan? Garbage friend. I said it. How many times in the book did we read “wow, you really weren’t told much about this whole werewolf thing”. So even tho Tea had gone through this trauma alone and had all the tools to help her good friend, she left her basically high & dry except for a quick run down.
It’s an easy read. If you want to just disassociate into a book where the less you think, the better, then have at it.

this series does not disappoint!

Book two of The Wolf Hunt series does not disappoint! This book was amazing! I was instantly pulled in and couldn’t stop myself from reading it. I literally finished this book in 24 hours and with two kids under two that’s not easily done! One thing that I was drawn to, was all of the supporting characters for each love story. With every new story you get insights into another mates upcoming hunt and you want to have their own story told. It’s terribly addicting these books, and I sincerely from the bottom of my heart wish Lola Glass will in the near future keep adding to the series. There are still just so many characters I would love to see get their story told!

This series is binge worthy to say the least. If you like these types of books, this is definitely a must read.

1.5 ⭐️

This book was fine, but it really didn’t differentiate much from the first book. Another sandwich shop, another nursing student, another going to classes together, etc. It was literally a rinse and repeat of the first book with a different couple. You really never even get a sense of Ebony as a person tbh. Not to mention that there’s a pack hierarchy and betas are supposed to support the rest of the pack. Be there for everyone. Ebony is also a beta…but there’s nothing that shows she’s doing that. Why put this hierarchy together when you get nothing out of it other than her planning her life to the most granular detail?

Again, the book was alright. It just didn’t wow me and felt like I was reading book 1 again just with Ebony not fighting it as much as Tea did. Also, her claiming of him was SO anticlimactic.

This is the second instalment in a series of standalones based in Glass’ Mate Hunt world. The protagonists in this one are Ford and Ebony.

As this is a standalone I found that there was a bit less character building in this one but the two leads are a riot to read. The characters provide many laughs along the way as well as some happy and sad moments. It was a well rounded narrative. I enjoyed the lore surrounding mates and how it was different and unique. Glass always has a great way of interpreting and developing classic lore and I really appreciate the effort she puts in.

I hadn’t read the other book in this series but as it is a standalone I had no problems going along for the ride.

I read this book in one sitting, mostly because the way Lola writes just totally sucks me in, but also because the story was so fast paced that I never got to a place where I wanted to stop! After the little tidbits of Ebb we got in the first book, I thought I had an idea of how she might react to things but her character totally surprised me. Her thoughts were always so relatable and normal considering her situation lol. I also really enjoyed her and Ford’s connection as the story progressed and how the mate process affects them. Even though this is a standalone, I think reading the first book helps to explain a lot of things that were glossed over in this one, and I anticipate that the next will be similar. Super excited to see how the rest of group’s stories unfold!

2.5 stars I'd say. It was okay, nothing too exciting happened, the story was basically the exact same as the first book but with a different set of characters and I imagine the same formula will be used for the rest of the series. I'm not attached enough to the characters to read the rest of the series though

This is a great read if your looking for no angst, a quick read, no OW drama, -no real drama at all really - insta lust/love, or even a younger audience (like older teens or something)

I really enjoyed the Wolfsbane series and the first three books in the Rejected Mate Refuge ( but I haven't finished the others), but it gets a bit repetitive if you can already see what's going to happen, especially for a binge reader like myself.

Same problem I had with the premise from the first story, kidnap, stalk and bite. This is a werewolf's idea of romance. Then I had a couple of problems with the Ebony character. Teagan was supposed to be her friend as well as her former roommates. Yet she kept making snide comments about how cheap Teagan was even though she was aware of how poor Teagan was. My other problem was, why exactly was she fucking Reed a guy she didn't even like and thought was an asshole? And if she was supposed to be so busy studying for her fast track graduation program, where did she find the time to fuck him 2 to 4 times a week by her estimation? When Teagan called her to grab a coffee she barely had any time for her friend. Okay book. Just not great IMHO.

Not so much

Not exactly on board with the whole females being okay with abduction. I was actually pretty understanding with the rejection scenario, as twisted as that is, because I can more easily see myself rejecting somebody who took all my choices away. The whole notion that feeding and giving basic necessities to their abductees and being civil makes up for abduction and turning somebody into an entirely different species just doesn't fly. So in all fairness I've tried two of these and until the women have some realistic responses to Ariel Castro style abduction I just can't say I'm okay with any of it.

The book is the second instalment in the Mate Hunt standalone series.

I won't deny that after reading the first one I was a little sceptical about reading this one but I'm so glad that I did.
The book was a lot more enjoyable for me and I loved it. I liked that the story was different and more realistic and fun to read. I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters, their bonding and the plot altogether.

I completely recommend giving this one a try and I'm very excited and interested in reading the next one.

I did like it

H- Ford Beta wolf
h- Ebony mate
2nd book & it pretty much continues the nxt wolf meeting his mate. Ebony was Teagon’s ex roommate. They were having lunch when Ford met her eyes & started the 1st step out of 3 which is the hunt. She is more assertive than Teagon was.
I love this couple, what I didn’t like was that she finally bite him which is step 2- the chase (her wolf is suppose to chase him & bite him) the show that part in the epilogue vs a few chapters before! This story like the 1st one is only Ebony’s POV

Ebony is worried about her friend Teagan. It seems that there is a video going around that suggests Teagan’s boyfriend Jesse is a werewolf. When Ebony finally gets up the nerve to warn her friend, the suspected werewolf boyfriend arrives with a friend in tow who greets Ebony with glowing red eyes and utters the word ‘mate’ in a strangled tone. Jesse and Teagan immediately jump into action to whisk Ebony and Ford to a safe location because Ford will be trapped in his wolf form for as long as it takes for Ebony to accept the fact that they are fated mates.

Sequel even better

The second book in this series is even better than the first. I could relate to this character much more, and I liked that while she struggled with the whole werewolf mate idea, she was also more accepting than Teagan in the first book. I also loved that this book dove even deeper into the werewolf hierarchy and culture, and discussing what happens if a female rejects her mate, even if it was heartbreaking.

Now I'm even more interested in the next mate hunt couple and can't wait to read their story.
