Shape shifting, blowing like a leaf in the wind - that’s me. Gemini by sign but it’s also embedded in my soul. I’m an introvert as well as an extrovert depending on my atmosphere or the situation. I absolutely embrace change; I thrive on it. But, when others are not accepting of change, and I receive backlash for my positivity, I admit that I get down. But what this audiobook reminded me of was that I must always remember to embrace my inner joy, and happiness. Perhaps, if I continue to be my positive uplifting self - then I can get the “others” to embrace change. It also helped me better understand my Aquarius husband and my two Capricorn kiddos.
This one is going to help me be intentional with self care. I liked the idea of learning about the different pillars of self care from all the signs and their favorite ways to care for themselves. I learned that every new moon is like a mini new year to start again. I will definitely listen again, I learned a lot!
It was a relaxing and interesting short audiobook that I could listen to while doing some self-care. I liked that it gave equal time and attention to all the signs and that you were encouraged to apply each sign's energy to yourself by using the focuses during that season, instead of just paying attention to your sun sign or signs that feature in your birth chart.
Ver good quick read. I'm into astrology and self-care so this kept my attention. I feel like I need a hard copy to refer back to during the specific time of year.
For a 2 hour audiobook I didn't expect to get anything mind blowing. I did appreciate the take away that you can get something good/positive from each of the signs. I find that when I read much into them there's the desire to want to skip to your own and just bypass all the others. This was light enough with the info that you didn't feel like you were getting too much about all the others and aching to get to your own. It was nice.
I was a bit skeptical at first. I’m a person that values astrology and any other sort of “whoo whoo” spiritual stuff for the different perspectives it can provide me. I use them as tools to get out of my typical train of thought. I do not believe it’s some greater force in the universe guiding me, sorry. So with the first chapter sort of arguing the scientific validity of Astrology, I was extremely put off. (It’s like with vegan substitutes: don’t try to pitch it as tasting just like meat. It doesn’t. But that doesn’t mean it’s not delicious in its own right. Speak on its own unique values without trying to compare it to something it’s not, and never will be.)
That being said, I pushed through and definitely found value in the advice relayed in the book. It’s nothing I haven’t heard from other self-care guides, but as someone with ADHD I often need reminders about these simple tips and tools to bring order back into my life and to help me achieve my goals.
Really enjoy that it’s such a short audiobook — the author even intended for it to be finished in one sitting! That works really perfectly for the way my brain functions and I totally see myself re-listening to this book throughout the year during seasons of change as a little refresher on what tools and routines work best for me.
If you have an Audible membership, this book is included! It’s only 2 hours and 21 minutes. Just take a Sunday afternoon to listen to it while you’re prepping for the week ahead. I think most people, whether you’re into spirituality or not, can get something out of the book. (Just maybe skip the first chapter and jump straight into Aries)
This was another great short audiobook to listen to while you’re working. It definitely gave me some additional insight on self-care each month, depending on the astrological sign that each of them fall into. I am a Virgo and 100% I think cleaning and making sure everything is just energetically clean is such a therapeutic way of Showing some self-care to myself. I think listening to all of the other astrological signs as well was really for telling on how my family members, and my friends also could benefit from some of these things. And just also listening to my moon and rising signs as well. It was also helpful for me to understand myself a little bit more.Definitely add this one into your rotations if you’re able to.
Superficial, shallow and empty of true insight approach for a lovely subject. There were some major mistakes too, which is such a shame, because professional astrologer shouldn't mix these fundamental basics. For example, in the first chapter, the tropical and sideric zodiacs are mixed. It is said that "when Sun is in the star constellation of Aries" even though she clearly uses season based tropical zodiac. Also talking about signs as personality types is really ignorant. Just to name a few problematic things here.
I wanted to like this, and without these misleading parts, it would've been okay.
I found this little book super helpful. Yes it is about astrology. But it really leans into the idea that astrology is a story we tell about archetypes which exist outside of an astrological context. Each of us embodies different aspects of these archetypes, and Tejeda has words of wisdom and compassion for all these various parts of ourselves. There is insight and advice - practical and applicable - helpful to all of us.
Whether you are a skeptic or believer of astrology, there are so many little positive nuggets to enhance self expression, nurture your soul, and be your free authentic self. My intention will be to practice the recommendations during each of the zodiac cycles. As someone who has a difficult time creating new habits, this will allow 30 days of active application of those zodiac suggestions and then about the time I need change it will be onto the next. Easy and thought provoking.
Enjoyed this free program through Audible. I feel slightly sceptical of both self care and astrology, but was looking to be soothed on a tough day. It is good to learn a little and be reminded about how to take care of yourself. Everything has its season. Reflection and growth are pillars to strive for.
If you believe in astrology this is a good book to check out! Self care is not always about spa days and buying expensive skincare products, and Valerie Tejeda understands this! I was missing something from this though, although I can't put my finger on exactly what it was. Overall a solid read! 4/5 stars.
Beginner book on working with astrology for folks with no experience. It was a quick listen but nothing new or interesting here for me. There wasn’t anything wrong with it it just wasn’t for me. At least it was a quick listen.
I grabbed it at a used book store. I didn't read the whole thing, just the intro and section for Pisces. It's nothing earth-shattering, just repeating the same stuff you read everywhere. It's well-written; there just wasn't enough information for me to get anything from this book.
I was interested in learning more about astrology . . . so this was kind of fun to listen to, but it seems like more of a resource book and I would suggest that having a hard copy of the book might be better. There's no way I could remember all this stuff.
This was surprisingly short. It also seems like there were many missed opportunities to expand on concepts here or offer explanations of self care or astrology. Both were left incomplete and woefully under-explained.
I liked the content, and I liked the author's voice. Astrology is something that interests me, so I enjoyed what the author said about applying each sign's self-care lesson in improving our lives. What I didn't like at all was Ms. Tejada's all-encompassing examples from 'her' astrological sign.
This was not my normal read. It was very interesting and I learned quite a bit. I definitely need to invest in myself more often. I am hoping to learn more about meditation this coming year. I don't want stress to cause me to die prematurely.
Quick little book of interesting insights. I definitely want to check out my full birth chart and consider how my full zodiac placement aligns with these small and quick practices of self care. Cool, easy exercises for each sign to engage in mindfulness and self care!
I’m so glad I used one of my Audible credits on this book so I can come back to it for the meditation ideas. The pillars of self care that each sign represents in this book are short and sweet, and are excellent for those looking for ways they can truly focus on self care.
Picked this up because it was short and free and I’m behind on my book goal but it actually had some legit self care suggestions like lovingkindness meditation, self-reflection, and goal/intention setting.
I debated between 3 and 4 stars because it's not revelatory but any book that addresses self care in a reasonable way should be supported. And certainly there are people whose signs correspond like a blueprint for their approaches to life so, maybe take a pause and give it a ponder.
It was alright wished it offered more insite into each sign instead of just the basics. The activity/mindfulness at the end of each section was very helpful though.
