I'm just a small town girl from New Jersey. I've visited 13 US states, (driven through many more) and 4 European countries. Traveling is good for the soul and I plan to do more!

I'm happily married with two wonderful children under 5. My favourite things to do are spend time with my family, friends, as well as reading and writing.

My all time favourite Author is Ray Bradbury. Reading "The Illustrated Man" and "Fahrenheit 451" changed my life for the better. Some of the other authors that I enjoy reading include Cassandra Clare, Rin Chupeco, Dan Brown, and Tamara Rose Blodgett.

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly, thank you so much to the author for giving me this arc copy, I was thrilled to read it having read the first book in the series, and enjoyed it. If you have read Becoming, the first book in this series then you ought to get on and pick this up! The story picked up from where book one left off, but I feel like the story progressed quickly and what struck me was the huge progression in character development, which was achieved through multi-POV, not an easy task to pull off. It really drew me into the characters, their voices were so defined and different. The stakes in this book were raised through the roof, Skylar and her friends are in real danger and need to work together, where they realize they are stronger. Kim has created a well-developed, realistic set of teens, all with their own hopes, dreams, and fears, all diverse, and with their own relationships and friendships. Sky and Mia's relationship deepens in this book, which was sweet and had me cheering for them. The ending is a huge cliffhanger, and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment!

The magic that makes the story notably real

The underlined book’s message, told in one of the dialogues:
“All magic start with connection to self and universe,” He answers. “First learn connect to source. Then learn how to use.“ And then, “You don’t need physical movements to use your gifts. You know this.”

In this sequel, the characters’ inner maturity and strength is apparent, giving them the extra depth they deserve. Accordingly, the dialogues by Skylar and the characters from earth and the other world sometimes shift from being serious to amusing, depending on the context, welcoming a pleasant read.

Each chapter is alternating told from a point of view of a different character, and the unique way the author delivers their thoughts made them round, though such a setting slowed the story pacing a bit. Yet, the evolving bind between Skylar and Mia, her girlfriend, places Mia in constant danger, and places this engaging plot
in the setting of youthful teenagers’ conflicts.

Even the characters from the other world seemed to gain some physical features as told in this dialogue: “There are multiple levels of existence, young mage,” Zeroun interjects. “Though spirits do not exist in the physical realm, they can exist in nonphysical realms such as this one.” Such elegant transitions made the story connected.

Overall, this book is also about team work, and about pushing one to the edge and use the unique magic one’s possesses in order to save the loved one while letting the past go and saving own self.

I started with book 2, erroneously believing that I could jump into the series at this point. Should have started with book 1. I was lacking a lot of background information. That said, here's my opinion of Acceptance as I see it.

Main character: Skylar Rolf. Sometimes lackluster, sometimes a drama queen. Her inner monologue made me cringe. "I'm mortified! Completely and utterly mortified!" This is a literal quote from the beginning of chapter 4. It's not always like this, but let's be honest, once would be too often.

Supporting cast: Nice, decent people most of them. We get some friendship, a cute pair of siblings and some sapphic love. The supporting characters were my favourite part of the book.

Plot: Starts off slowly, but gets gripping towards the end.

Worldbuilding: A bit blurry and patchy, but overall ok.

All in all, a mixed bag. I believe Kim Campbell has some great stories in her. A professional publisher might help her bring them out.

This is part 2 of the Legend of the Last Danann series. It is the continuation of book one, "Becoming".
Among high school angst and bullies, she also is learning how to deal with her newly found magical powers. She meets fairies, dragons, demons, and even time portals along her journey.

I recommend buying both at the same time so you don't have to wait to finish the story.
