Growing is hard, whether you're 18 or 80. For the 20-year-old Niketa (aka Nikki) Sane, it's a tad bit more challenging. Severely bullied in college and constantly pressured to excel in studies, she is left anxious to try even the simplest of things in life. She takes to writing in secret and often daydreams about finding love.
Things start to look much better when she meets Aarav, an artist who encourages her to follow her passions. Slowly, with the help and support of her family, Nikki embarks on her journey to recovery, but just as things start falling into place, the ghosts of her past come back to haunt her in the form of her former bullies. But this time, she is determined to stand up and fight back her bullies.
With drama swirling in her life again, will she be able to conquer her fears and give it back to her tormentors? Will her romantic daydreams ever become real? Above all, amidst all this chaos, will Nikki find herself?
A skilled author has this ability to put you into the mind of someone you might never get to know because they are a bit prickly or distant and difficult to get to know, but the author lets you see the world through their eyes. You may not like this character at first, but after spending some time in their shoes, you end up liking them quite a bit. It is a wonderful gift to have and takes a special talent to do so. Finding Nikki by Rasika Mahabal is one of those books where you get to know the characters a lot better after spending time with them.
Being severely bullied in college and constantly pushed to excel in school has left Nikki nervous about trying even the most basic of tasks. Due to her crippling self-esteem, she lives a fairly secluded life. As a way to express herself, she takes to writing secretly and often fantasises about finding love. When she meets Aarav, an artist who inspires her to pursue her passion, everything starts looking up for her. As Nikki embarks on her path to recovery, her family and friends guide her. With Aarav's kindness and help from her family and friends, Nikki's inner emotions and feelings slowly start to emerge. As things change for Nikki, she is forced to confront the past and confront the real reason for her recent desire for more. Confronting her past will enable her to change the trajectory of her life. Her journey is one of hope for a better future, a future fought for and won by facing her demons and disassociating herself with the perpetrator of mental torment.
Finding Nikki is a novel about finding yourself, about facing your fears, however big or small. Nikki takes chances; she tries new things. She steps out of her comfort zone and tries new things, with new people. She forces herself to learn to feel all emotions, rather than stifle the majority of them, as she has done her entire life. All this is because she realises she wants more from her life. She was truly an inspiration, and watching her slowly blossom and heal was a pure joy. Nikki and Aarav were both wonderful characters with a lot of depth.
Rasika Mahabal constructed a jewel with this debut effort. Her writing style is beautiful and most appealing. Even though the backdrop of the narrative is tragic, author Rasika ensures that the reader is not dragged down into a pit of blackness. She infuses the story with warmth and the perfect amount of humor.
Niketa, aka Nikki, is a beautifully written character study of a very troubled 20-year-old girl. The story is not plot-driven; neither is it a mystery thriller, nor have pulse-pounding actions. But it is one that is exquisitely written, with phenomenal characterization. Rasika Mahabal has created a truly unforgettable character in that of Nikki, and also of Aarav, the kind, sweet guy who helps Nikki find her way. The journey with quirky Nikki through the past and present is bizarre at times, thought-provoking at others. But, I found it to be engaging no matter what. And, while it is mainly about Nikki, there are a few other interesting characters met along the way as well.
Finding Nikki is a brilliant, witty, uplifting, and hopeful story that explores the deep, unspoken sadness caused by past trauma and how a little kindness can make a difference in someone's life. This story is many things. It is both heart-wrenching and full of heart and inspiring. Most of all, it is one of those few books one reads that is truly unforgettable. I highly recommend Finding Nikki to anybody that likes a character-driven story. This book was just filled with remarkable characters that were so extremely well developed.
Love ❤️, Noor. ___ FINDING NIKKI by Rasika Mahabal. leadstartcorp
Genre: contemporaryfiction 231 pages. Release date: 20/03/2022 ___ 📍I really really enjoyed reading this one! It's a light read with a strong message & is very relatable.
Growing up is hard, irrespective your phase of life. Who has been your support system when you were in your 20's? Or "The next time she makes a nasty comment, I am going to retort, I decide". Has it happened with you? ___
Nikki is an introvert who loves to write..she weaves a story around day-to-day events , as she would want them to actually happen with her & pens them down. It's her world, her area of dominance where she has no fear or insecurities. The way we turn to reading, she turns to writing.
She has a big joint family living on various floors of a multistorey building but her best equation is with her grandmother. I loved their tuning. Also she has a lot of cousins who keep the story entertaining. My fav was her macho sis Reya. She keeps on helping & experimenting with Nikki to take her out of her shell. Some cool incidents happened because of it.
📍Few of my fav. lines;
"I want to live like the banyan tree, they take the space they want and spread the way they want.”
“One’s writing is always inspired by what they read."
"I like to write about my own unfulfilled dreams."
"Do you want to feel like your old self again?” She raises her eyebrows at me questioningly, and I give a tiny shrug in return. “Then you need to face the things you are scared of head-on, keep doing them again and again. I see a great deal of progress in you this year,” she continues."
This story is a beautiful journey of "finding yourself". The reader will find many lost fragments of self while traveling through Nikki's journey.
I had a great time reading it & it kept me amused through the major part of the story.
And yes Happy Endings are always welcome, that's the reason we love #fiction so much, isn't it?! 🤩

The path of finding our own self is known to be a long journey of discovery, the one in which the horizon of self is always moving and that is exactly what keeps us engaged in the pursuit.
In all of this, the only thing which we can do is to give ourself a chance to discover who we really are and accept the challenges in order to feel the exhilaration of satisfaction.
‘Finding Nikki’ by author Rasika Mahabal is one such beautiful self discovery journey of our main female protagonist and how she navigates all the hurdles and challenges that come across her way, ennumerating and showing her strength and regaining her confidence in doing so.
We will never look good while trying to make someone else look bad, and pulling someone else down will never result in making us reach at the top. Even though this might be true, it is still disheartening to see that people still resort to bullying and hurting others for their own vicious happiness.
However, through this book, the author has shown us how when people are trying so hard to make us feel defeated, we should gather courage from it, pick up the proverbial stones that were thrown at us and build it into something that all will envy.
I was so glad to see that Nikki finally find the purpose that she had been looking for and she also recieved great help from her near and dear ones in her quest.
The writing style was quite engrossing as well as something that most of the readers could relate with, because the circumstances in the book are not what we may have heard about but also experienced during some point in our own life. Hence I am going to give this book FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"When we are children, we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind." — Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind
Finding Nikki by Rasika Mahabal is a novel we all must read. The character of the protagonist is so relatable that we will find ourselves in her shoes.
Nikki is a 20 year old who is constantly struggling being bullied and pressurised to excel in studies. And that makes her anxious to try even the simplest things in life. Author has explained about the struggles of growing up and finding a place to fit ourselves.
Aarav plays an important character in the novel, he is an artist. Aarav helps Nikki to follow her passion. The story will inspire us to fight all odds and try our best. Will her determination help her fight back her bullies?
Do grab this book and read to know more about Nikki and her life.
The book has quite a different flavour and I'm so glad to have come across it. The cover of this book is beautifully designed and it caught my attention at the very beginning. The blurb felt so interesting that it literally lured me to dive deeper into the book.
Bullying is a very sensitive issue and indeed the author deserves special appreciation for choosing this theme. The story revolves around our protagonist, Nikki and the challenges she faced while growing up. Growing up isn't easy and often it's the people around who make it even more difficult. Nikki faced constant bullying in college and also the pressure to excel in academics and this gave birth to anxiety in her which prevented her from trying out even the simplest things in life.
Her life takes a different turn when her love, Aarav enters her life. He's a kind and compassionate person and helps Nikki overcome her obstacles and become a better version of herself. With his help and encouragement, Nikki steps out of her comfort zone, faces her fears and stands up for herself.
But the road to recovery isn't a straight line. As things start falling into place, Nikki's past fears often come to haunt her. Read this story to be a part of Nikki's journey of breaking free from the shackles of her fears.
The theme is quite bold and the plot is intricately woven. The story did have a depressing tone but it has been presented with a perfect blend of warmth and humour which has made it interesting manifold. Characterisation deserves special appreciation. I liked Nikki's character, the different shades of her character has been expressed with such details! I'm totally in love with the writing style. The narration is absolutely engaging.
Honestly, I could partly relate with this story so this story is quite close to my heart.
Definitely I'd recommend this to all. Do give it a go!!
Finding Nikki is a novel about discovering yourself and confronting your anxieties, no matter how big or tiny they may be. Nikki is not afraid to take risks and try new things. She takes a risk and tries new things with different individuals, stepping out of her comfort zone. As she has done her entire life, she forces herself to learn to feel all of her emotions rather than suffocate the majority of them as she has done. All of this is because she has come to the realisation that she wants more from her life. The pleasure of witnessing her steadily develop and mend was immeasurable. Nikki and Aarav were both amazing characters with a great deal of depth to their personalities.
When Rasika Mahabal released her first album, she created a gem of a piece. Her writing style is excellent and aesthetically pleasing to the reader. Despite the fact that the narrative is set against a terrible backdrop, author Rasika ensures that the reader is not dragged down into a pit of despair. This author infuses the story with warmth and just the right amount of sarcasm.
Making a Difference in Someone's Life is a smart, funny, inspiring, and hopeful story that addresses the deep, unacknowledged pain created by past trauma and how a small act of kindness may make a significant difference in someone's life. This narrative is a lot of different things. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, as well as inspirational. Most importantly, it is one of the rare books that one reads that leaves an indelible impression on the reader. I would strongly recommend Finding Nikki to anyone who enjoys a well-written character-driven novel. This book was bursting at the seams with wonderful characters who were all exceptionally well developed in every way.
A major problem which is still prevalent in our society and it makes it difficult for females to achieve any level of contentment with their physical appearance” same happened with our main protagonist.
Nikki has always flirted with life. A girl who had to go through a series of events in her life which has made everything stressful. She was not atoll good at her studies due to which her mother wanted to take her to an astrologer. So that she will start studing good.
I also find few of the instances quite relatable specially the fight between Parth and Nikki. Parth, brother of Nikli they got indulged into a sweet fight for TV remote.
Slowly gradually her life went up on the track after the introduction of a character named Arav. Who tried to motivate Nikki to chase her dream. She was doing perfect meanwhile She was also in search of love of her life. After a while life once again become unfair to her. How long life can make someone suffer?? What will happen next? Read the book to unfold the further plot of the story.
As entire book has conveyed a meaningful message and specially While reading this book one can grasp a beautiful lesson laden with morals and motivation. The language of the book is Simple and easy to understand throughout its writing. The cover of the book is eye catching. The writing style of the author is captivating. The author has indeed done a great work.
This is an intriguing, sensitive and heart-warming story of a young 20-year-old girl Nikki’s struggle with conflicts, anxieties, personalities, and getting bullied. Nikki’s consciousness and the various influences that shape it are beautifully depicted. The book is written with honesty and candor.
The book’s strengths are its simplicity and effervescence. Through simple ordinary events in young Nikki’s life, the author has subtly crafted a message for the reader. The message is of the eventual triumph of truth, sincerity, and care over ill-will, deceit, and bullying. The narration expertly escalates events to a show-down finale of good versus evil.
The author has artfully woven in a tender, caring romance that illustrates the message of the book. The romance is a part of an engaging tapestry of various personalities and reinforces the universal human need for true understanding and care. Nikki’s fantasies appear natural for her age and gender, and fully support the book’s message. The episodes of fantasies add sparkle and fizz to the already captivating story.
While the story is set in India, the book’s message is global. The author deftly maneuvers readers to live through Nikki and experience her consciousness. This book is not just a book; it is a delightful experience.

A perfect read for Sunday afternoon. Would recommend it to everyone!
Let's start with our main character here. Nikki is a girl with daydreams and at the same time, she is anxious about every situation. She feels better with books because books give her an escape from reality and there she can love anyone, be with anyone, be anyone, but in reality, she is scared to talk to anyone, she is scared of bullies because Mona (one of her neighbor) always made her fun. Nikki is a girl with a stressful mind but she can't share all these with anyone except her cousin Reva. I love the character of Reva, being a psychology student, she is a strong woman and helps her sister. Aaji is a lovely character. The gap between the two generations should be bridged, then both generation can share many things common. So Nikki is a girl with mental problems and like every other teenager, she also does not know what to do with her life. Then she met Aarav. Then she starts following her passion but will she get her happily ever after? Will life give her some good time and some stressless days? How will she deal with much bigger problems than her grades? To find out all answers, read this capitative book.
This is the story of 20-year-old Niketa Sane, who loves reading and writing romance stories than being in crowded places, daydreams about falling in love and gets anxious about simple things in life. Nikki has a past of getting bullied by Mona and other girls from her college that makes her more anxious and cautious with her life. She's trying to take relevant steps to overcome it and start her life with a clean slate but when she is confronted by her past again can she face it head on this time? I can definitely say that the writing style is very engaging right from the beginning of first chapter and continues to be that way with each of the characters presented in a relevant proportion. It is filled with fascinating characters that tug at the strings of your heart but also make you want to hold them, shake them and tell them how much you relate with them. I could relate to Nikki's character more than i could've imagined. Her relationship with her Aaji (grandmother) was heartwarming. In a nutshell, it's a very captivating story.
✨"I want to live like the banyan tree, they take the space they want and spread the way they want."
The story is about a 20-year-old Niketa (aka Nikki) Sane who was severely bullied in college and constantly pressured to excel in her studies, she is left anxious to try even the simplest of things in life. This is the story of how she overcomes all this and ultimately finds herself. This was a sweet and easy read. The main protagonist is such a relatable character that anyone will fall in love with her. I love the writing style of the author it was very intriguing and yet easy to understand though I was a little more polished language was used. All the struggles and problems that the character faces are the ones that need to be talked about. The way the author has talked about anxiety and bullying is so prevalent in our society. This book hit home, that's all I want to say.
Just finished reading the book and I loved writing style. It is easy, conversational, simple dialogue between characters, no complicated vocabulary. Simple and straightforward like we talk to person next door. Though Nikki is main character I absolutely loved Reya’s character and I feel she is more instrumental in Nikki’s success to chase her dream. Biggest bully chapter hits from nowhere though the writer gives subtle hints about Parth’s motto prove with proof. Over all I loved it and please pen down more books. All the best !
Nikki is a young girl who is tormented by bullies in college and high pressure of studies at home. It's a story that shows how bullies change life of a person for the worst and how parental pressure can change a child's perpspective towards the world and themselves.
While she is in the process of recovery, she meets a person that shows her hope and support to geal faster. But as life is , she again comes face to face with her dark past.
Will this new support help her build new courage in her life ? Will she be able to come out of all these web of complexities and win her goals ?
It's a story of young adult life filled with enigmas , fighting for oneself and never lossing hope even in the darkest of times. It shall feel relatable to college going young adults.
It is a lovely story to be enjoyed and understand. Recommended.
🌻The story focuses on the protagonist Nikki and then there is Aarav who plays a pivotal role as the story progresses. The title itself gives an overview of what the story is all about. Nikki was bullied in her college and she has her own struggles and sufferings. It is about her journey where she needs to fight the darkness and seek her own light.
🌻The book runs for 229 pages and it is divided into 39 Chapters. Aarav is trying to prove himself as an artist. Each person has their own dreams and aspirations to follow. This shows the reality of life instead of making one person's life revolve around the other aimlessly. The plot unfolds in an interesting manner. It is written in an elegant style and it is comprehensive by readers of all age.
🌻This book is recommended to those who look for motivation.
A beautifully written, heartwarming, and coming-of-age story. Excellent storytelling skills from a first-time author. Nikki's personal growth was handled flawlessly, and I found myself on a good emotional roller coaster. I would highly encourage everyone to read the book; is it definitely a page-turner.
