Anson is in love with David. He’s in love so much that some days, he can’t leave his pod and go to work because David will be there, and David will not recognize him at all.
Anson is a Grim Reaper assigned to the soul David, who is working through the traumas of his human life in order to leave purgatory and ascend to whatever comes next. He’s been trapped in his loop for a decade, never completing it and always thrown back to the front. And each time, Anson drags himself back to the long strip of road and tries to help the man he loves, who forgets him at the end of every cycle, to finally move on to a place where Anson can never follow him.
But today is different. According to his superiors, this is Anson’s last cycle to try to send David through before he’s reassigned. No matter how this ends, Anson will never see David again. But ten years ago, the first time they fell in love, David begged him to be the last face he saw. So Anson will do anything and everything to make sure he keeps his promise. He’ll be with David until the very end.

What an unique storyline. I listened to If I Have You on audiobook. We meet Anson - a grim reaper and David - the soul he's meant to help. Anson has, so far, failed at getting David's soul to finish his loop. David has been repeating his loop for over a decade, which is much too long apparently. And in this decade, Anson has fallen in love with David. Each loop makes him fall more and more, which is unheard of for grim reapers. Because nothing can become of this relationship. In this book, it's Anson's last cycle to try to get David through before Anson is reassigned. Anson is struggling with the thoughts of never being able to "be with" David, regardless to the outcome of the cycle / reassignment.
This book was sweet. Wholesome in many ways. And it truly was an unique storyline. I'll be reading more by this author for sure.
This is the second book I read in that grim reaper series and I am glad I did not start with it because the world building was definitely better in the other one. Here everything is rather confusing and the author tries to tie everything up in a few pages.
