They're not going down without a fight.

When FDLE special agent Amy Larson discovers a small horse figurine amid the bloody aftermath of a gang massacre in the Everglades, she recognizes it immediately. The toy is the calling card of the apocalypse cult that Amy and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating, and it can only mean one thing: this wasn’t an isolated skirmish—it was the beginning of a war.

As tensions between rival gangs rise, so does the body count, and Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent, far-right extremist group who are in no hurry to quell the civil unrest. With a deadly puppet master working to silence their every lead, it’s a race against the clock to figure out who’s been pulling the strings and put a stop to the escalating cartel turf war before the Everglades run red.

"Captivating cop fiction with an extra serving of grit, layered onto a unique setting described in such detail that it transports you right to the middle of it all…. A well-developed and twisted read!" —Mystery and Suspense Magazine,on Danger in Numbers

CRIMSON SUMMER (Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI Book #2) by Heather Graham is the second book in this romantic suspense/crime thriller series with an overall series arc of a mysterious apocalyptic cult with each book featuring one of the four horsemen from Revelations. This book can be read as a standalone, but it is easier to follow the overall arc by reading them in order.

FDLE Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest are on vacation when they receive a small red toy horse figurine delivered to their room. They return to Florida immediately to a massacre in the Florida Everglades.

As the investigation gets going, a second massacre occurs in New York City. The red horse is “War” and with tensions rising, law enforcement is afraid of retaliations. A mystery puppet master is killing every witness and lead Amy and Hunter uncover. With the stakes increasing nationwide, Amy and Hunter are in a race to uncover a trail that does not lead to a dead-end but will lead them to the red horse mastermind.

I was so happy to finally get the follow-up to Danger In Numbers and the next book in this series. This is a solid next step the overall arc and a good crime thriller in its own right. Amy and Hunter are a wonderful couple to follow as the main characters. Even with the brutality of the crimes and the danger along the way, Ms. Graham is able to give Amy and Hunter lighter moments, too. This is a pair of law enforcement officers I look forward to reading more about. All the secondary characters were interesting, and the plot twists make this a story I could not put down.

I recommend this series and author and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!

Engrossing police procedural Murder mystery. Part 2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This story is one that you definitely need to read book one before diving into this one. It is part two of a four-part series and not for the faint of heart.
Graham is liberal with her descriptions of the raw and gritty crime scenes. The reality of murder and destruction of people and families. The hate and intensity of a gang war. She imagery she crafts dig deep into your soul.
But she also adds levity and lightness with a love connection and friendships that offer a great balance. Crimson Summer is unique in its plot and the twists she loads throughout keep you off balance in the race against time.
Great pacing with addictive qualities that make this one tough to put down! Definitely one to grab, after reading book one, of course!!
This is a well-written, fast paced, entertaining, contemporary suspense novel. It has a likable, intelligent, strong and capable female protagonist, a caring, strong, intelligent, likable male protagonist, intrigue, suspense, mystery, a touch of romance, twists and turns, and a surprise ending. This is the second entry in Ms. Graham's outstanding "Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest FBI" series, and can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but is better when read in order. I listened to the audio version of this novel, and the narrator, Ms. Eva Kaminsky, does an outstanding job depicting the characters and their personalities.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Crimson Summer by Heather Graham is the second book in the Amy Larson and Hunter Forest FBI series. Having enjoyed Danger in Numbers, I looked forward to reading Crimson Summer after learning it was the sequel. It delivered a thrilling and suspenseful tale served with a side of romance.
Summary
Now the events in Crimson Summer occurred one month after Danger in Numbers. The story began with a mass murder in the Everglades, made to look like gang on gang violence. The victims were members of a notorious Latino gang. Meanwhile, the delivery of a red toy horse to Amy and Hunter’s hotel room led to them cutting their vacation short. A similar toy found at the crime scene alerted Amy and Hunter to the connection between this crime scene and their previous case involving the investigation of an apocalypse cult. The red horse hinted at the beginning of war. Amy and Hunter race against time to prevent a catastrophic event.
Graham delivered a clever tale which had me turning the pages while keeping me on the edge of my seat. The case is chilling and complex. Several players were involved in the murders that spread beyond Florida. The big question on the reader’s mind was who was the puppet master?
Amy and Hunter’s relationship has strengthened, and they have grown closer. They had each other’s back. Hunter’s action near to the end showed how much he loved Amy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, even more so than Danger in Numbers. Crimson Summer pulled in from the very beginning with the grittiness of the murder investigation, the romantic moments between Amy and Hunter, and the twists and turns Graham created throughout the story. Identifying the villain proved a challenge this time around. The romantic and light moments balanced out the darker themes of the story.
The danger intensified the more Hunter and Amy searched for the truth. The tale provided some nail biting moments. Now, while this aspect of the investigation wrapped up successfully, Hunter and Amy’s work isn’t over. I cannot wait to find out who will be behind the next horseman of the apocalypse.
Fans of gritty crime stories with an element of romance would appreciate the story Graham delivered in Crimson Summer.
What does the red horse signify in the Bible? For a clue, look closer at the title, Crimson Summer. Crimson is another word for red. Red is the color of blood. The rider of the red horse signifies warfare in the Bible. Is that so in this enthralling book by Heather Graham? In fact, all four horsemen of the apocalypse - red, white, black and pale - are all mentioned more than once in this thrilling mystery by Heather Graham.
Readers are back with FDLE Special Agents Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest as they desperately look for someone only known as the puppetmaster - someone very interested in perpetuating a brutal gang war. From Florida to New York, the body count is rising at a rapid pace. As Amy and Hunter seek out clues, they find that they are thwarted at every turn. Will they be able to stop this puppetmaster before even more bodies fall?
This is the second book in an exciting series. The first book, Danger in Numbers, was an excellent crime thriller that introduced Amy and Hunter. They work well together both personally and professionally. I am more than eager to continue to the next book in this series.
Many thanks to MIRA and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Book #2 of a four-part series, and I'd highly recommend Book #1 first.
Instalment Two resumes right where Book One finished. Larson and Forrest hunt for a serial killer cult, and this book continues to deliver on suspense.
The events of ' Crimson Summer' take place approximately one month after the ending of ' Danger in Numbers'. I recommend reading them in order, even though they are standalone companions. It begins with a mass murder scene, where Larson discovers a miniature red toy horse. Representing "War", and it just escalates from there!
Mass murder, police procedural, blood and guts underscore this fast-paced, ominous read.
A few romantic moments felt a bit off to me, but the plot is intricate and well-woven.
I am looking forward to the next instalment of the four horsemen!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -Audiobook 🎧
Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI #2
This series is about The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The rider of the red horse is a figure who symbolizes war, bloodshed, and the removal of peace from the earth. The person who has been chosen as the “rider” of the red horse orchestrates mass murders in Florida and New York in an attempt to spark gang wars. Our main characters, Amy Lawson and Hunter Forrest investigate to find the red horseman before they are successful in starting a turf war. I love the concept and characters of this series and am looking forward to reading the next book.
Ok, this one took a lot less time to get to the bones of the story because we didn't have to get introduced to the agents. And we were familiar with the story.
The two agents becoming lovers was a nice take and that they are still together makes the story better or at least it does for me.
I don't really have more to say than that. It was a better story than the first and I look forward to the third book.
Again, I liked the narration.
What’s it about (in a nutshell):
Crimson Summer by Heather Graham is the second book in a crime thriller series about an apocalypse cult whose leader is bringing the four horsemen of the apocalypse to life. Amy Larson (Florida Law Enforcement) and Hunter Forrest (FBI) had already found and stopped the white horse, but a red horse had been sent to them.
What I Enjoyed:
The suspense keeps the pace fast until the twists and turns kick in. Amy and Hunter fly between Florida, New York, and Chicago to the crime scenes and follow up with witnesses and potential suspects. The movement of the characters, followed by the suspense as more and more clues are discovered, kept my pages flipping. There is never a dull moment, and I love it.
Crimson Summer can be read as a stand-alone, technically, but why would you want to. I love that each book in the series ends in a soft conclusion with a tease and not a true cliffhanger. I am always quick to fuss when books in a series end in cliffhangers because I think it is unnecessary and frustrating, but that is not the case with this series. We automatically know that there are four horsemen, so a cliffhanger would just be redundant.
The whole “4 Horseman of the Apocalypse” overall plot is one that I am thoroughly enjoying. I always found The Four Horseman fascinating and scary in equal measures. Graham’s utilization of it for this series is equally as eerily fascinating and entirely appropriate for an Apocalypse cult to yield. It’s been utilized in many other stories on stage, screen, and print, but none quite as chilling as the sequence of events in this series.
I love that the romance burns bright without being gratuitous. Amy and Hunter are a wonderful couple. I gave the critique with the first book that perhaps they are a bit too perfect, and that hasn’t changed technically, but I did look at it differently in this book than I did in the first. In Crimson Summer, I saw their perfection as more of a light in the darkness. A few scenes between the couple show their passion while still leaving a lot to the imagination so that it never breaks the flow of the suspense. In some ways, the possibility that their pureness of feelings could fall prey to the evil they are fighting just worked to enhance the tension.
Boy, that ending took me by surprise! It is so complex and in a totally different direction than I was looking. I always love when a story surprises me, and this one did not disappoint.
Characters:
This is a plot-driven story, but the characters are so well drawn that it could have easily been a character-driven story. Amy and Hunter are a good team in every way and characters that elicit all the right feelings from the reader.
What I Wish:
My only wish is that the next book comes out sooner rather than later.
To Read or Not to Read:
If you are looking for a thrilling series that gets better with each installment, Crimson Summer and its predecessor, Danger in Numbers, are two books you won’t want to miss.
Crimson Summer is the second book in the crime thriller series, Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI. Although each case is solved before the book ends, I recommend your read this series in order. FDLE Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest are on vacation when they receive a small red toy horse figurine delivered to their room. When they return to Florida, they are called to a massacre in the Everglades. It is staged to look like a native killing but the weapons were inconsistent with the indigenous people in the area. While sifting through the crime scene, Amy finds a small red horse, the calling card of an apocalypse cult that Amy and Hunter have been investigating. They now know that the cult they shut down is only the beginning. As more people are killed, Larson & Forrest are racing against the clock to find out who the mastermind is in order to stop the killing.
This is a fast paced story with a lot of twists and turns. Between Florida, New York, and Chicago we see Amy and Hunter traveling to crime scenes using their skills of questioning, solving puzzles and observation to begin to uncover what is happening. Although there are some brutal crimes and danger, I wouldn't classify this as a dark story. Amy and Hunter are involved in a relationship, and this keeps it lighter. The overall story arc of the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" is very interesting and has had me doing some research of my own. Of course, it also means there are going to be two more books in the series. Although I feel these books are more crime thriller, there is also a romantic suspense storyline. I like their relationship and how it progresses without overpowering the story. I did figure out who the puppet master was before the final, dangerous showdown, but only just. An excellent story that has me ready for book three, which should be the black horse. Eva Kaminsky narrates this story and does a great job giving voice to both Amy and Hunter. She uses expression and tone to add suspense. I enjoyed both reading and listening to the audiobook, although I think my enjoyment kicked up a notch while listening. If you enjoy crime thrillers with a splash of romance, then I definitely recommend you pick this book up. The publisher provided me with a copy of this book on request. The rating and comments shared are my own.
My second read of a thriller written by Heather Graham was a huge success. This instalment follows on from book one, Danger in Numbers. In Crimson Summer, FDLE (Florida Law Enforcement) special agent Amy Larson and FBI special agent Hunter Forrest are on holiday when a small redhorse figurine is delivered to their room. In Florida, there has been a bloody gang massacre in the Everglades area. The two special agents cut short their island break and return to Florida to help with the investigation.
Right from the start, I was gripped by this enthralling mystery. I love a dark crime novel and this did not disappoint. Well written and chock full of twists and turns it will keep even the most exacting of readers entertained. There are some graphic, violent parts but there's romance, too. I was kept guessing throughout and I highly recommend Crimson Summer so grab yourself a copy.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing /MIRA via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Crimson Summer by Heather Graham
Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest #2
Amy and Hunter are called away from their vacation as the hint of a new big case comes rolling in. The four horses of the apocalypse will be featured in this series and this is the red horse’s turn. Will Amy and Hunter find and be able to stop the red horse OR will the deadly game being played out by a master manipulator come to fruition?
What I liked:
* Amy Larson: Special Agent for Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), bright, dedicated, an artist that makes drawings at the scene of crimes, capable, thinks on her feet, from a family in law enforcement, likable, cool under fire, perfect for Hunter
* Hunter Forrest: FBI Special agent, ex-military, knowledgeable about cult and ritualistic murders, mid-thirties, well known on the job, intelligent, experienced, likable, perfect for Amy
* The continuation of the Four Horses theme from Revelation – so glad I read book one first
* The way the clues played out
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* The task force and how they all worked together seamlessly
* The red herrings, twists, and turns
* That Amy and Hunter were able to save some if not all of those targeted for death
* The relationship between Amy and Hunter – equal partners on the job and off
* The interactions between the team and that all levels in departments got along well together
* That the story moved from the Everglades to New York and on to Chicago
* Knowing that there are two more books (at least) to look forward to
What I didn’t like:
* Thinking about who might be the master puppeteer pulling the strings in this series – heinous, selfish, and worthy of loathing
* Thinking about how gullible people can be and how easily they are preyed upon
* Having to wait for the next book in the series
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin-Mira for the ARC – This is my honest review
Crimson Summer is the second book in the Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI series. This can be read as a stand alone but I do think reading the first book helps you know more about the main characters.
I enjoyed reading Crimson Summer though a few times I did struggle with some of the interactions between Amy and Hunter.
Lots of twists and turns within the plot. The author definitely weaves a intricate thriller mystery. You just have to keep reading to find out what is going to happen.
Crimson Summer is good detective, police procedural series that I recommend you pick up.
Overall a solid FBI detective story.
I enjoyed the Danger In Numbers and listened to Crimson Summer. This romantic suspense has our officers on the hunt for a serial killer cult and delivered plenty of suspense, as this collaboration between the FBI and Florida State police crosses state lines as the body count rises.
The events of Crimson Summer take place approximately one month after the ending of Danger in Numbers. I recommend reading/listening to them in order, even though they are standalone companions. It begins with Hunter interviewing a prisoner before he joins Amy at a mass murder scene, where she discovers a token similar to the toy red horse that appeared on their honeymoon. It represents “War” and indeed a war is beginning between good and evil. Graham wastes no time thrusting us into danger.
More mass murders in other parts of the country have our agents doing double time. The overall story arc is fast-paced with an ominous sense of urgency. With each witness and clue they uncover, the criminals seem one step ahead of them, from taking out witnesses to controlling information.
The romance is already established and the couple have little page time, but Graham snuck in moments, addressed concerns and strengthened their ties. I like both Amy and Hunter. Each brings skills to the table professionally and the pair work well together. Their romance, respect, and feelings for each other felt genuine.
Eva Kaminsky narrates and gave voice to both Amy and Hunter while enhancing the suspense, capturing their relationship dynamics and giving voice to evil. The story worked well in audio format and I plan to continue the series on audio.
While at times sinister, Graham balanced the darker aspects with lighter moments between the couple, giving readers a chance to catch their breath. Fans who love a suspenseful murder-mystery with a side dish of romance will want to begin the Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI series. I look forward to the next one!
This sequel suffers from too large a scope even though the Biblical research is spot on.
War is the focus of this book featuring Amy Larson and her boyfriend Hunter Forrest. The two law enforcement members just finished taking down a cult and are on vacation when a red toy horse shows up at their hotel. Amy knows that more murders have been committed. The unsub won't stop until they bring out the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The two must deal with mass murders stylized in turf wars including American Indians and Street Gangs. With the cult leader from the white horse in prison who is actually in charge?
This sequel is both better and worse than its original story Danger in Numbers. Heather Graham made me proud with her actual Biblical research. She does well with the “red horse” which symbolizes war, specifically civil war. War is the star of this show and yes, it's infighting. I was also happy to see a better explication of the cult and the ”white horse”. The author uses the anti-Christ aspect as a symbol for the cult leader. This was smart stuff.
The problem is that the book gets too big. It starts in Florida and jumps to New York and then Chicago. These mass killings make little sense when the culprit is unveiled and I didn't understand why the kills spanned so far and exactly how they were accomplished. While I can understand Chicago to New York and visa versa, Florida is so out of the sphere that it feels forced that the “red horse” would start where the “white horse” did.
Overall, I didn't find this very novel very exciting. The writing and plot aren't tight, and I was never concerned for our characters. It was easy to see who would die and who would not. This was a disappointing thriller.
I received an ARC through the publisher; all opinions are my own.
Crimson Summer picks up pretty much right after the first book, Danger in Numbers, left off. I would not read this book without reading the first one. This one absolutely spoils the events and twists in the first book. This time, Amy and Hunter are after the Red Horse. The Red Horse seems hell bent on starting wars all over the US.
I really enjoyed this second book. As with the first one, I loved the relationship between Amy and Hunter. It grows stronger even more in this one. They have great banter and have mutual respect for each other. The mystery was interesting and a race against time. I was engaged throughout and couldn't put the book down. I did call one twist, but the rest were a surprise. I definitely recommend this one.
I only finished this book because I wanted to know what happened, but the writing was terrible! The characters’ dialogue was used to explain what was happening in such an elementary way that made me cringe to read. Even short interactions between brief characters was ridiculous and had to touch on issues like prisons and religion on a superficial level creating conversations that would never actually happen. Also so many exclamation marks! It was painful to read.
Boy, does Heather really bring it. Right from the Prologue. I was immediately put on the scene. She sucked me into it. Such a beautiful place. I experienced the beauty of the Everglades. The scents, the sounds, the air laden with moisture. Then I was smacked in the face. The blood, the bodies. What a jolt.
As the author introduced the players and deftly wove her plot, my eagerness grew. I had a good feeling this was going to be another killer read.
If you enjoy stories where you think you know where it’s going and then find out you don’t, and intricate plots along with genuine characters, Heather Graham doesn’t disappoint you.
I’ve been working a lot of overtime lately and struggling to stay awake to read. While I didn’t read this straight through, I really wanted to. I felt this need to know what was coming next. Just couldn’t make my tired eyes stay open. It took me two nights and I enjoyed every bit of it. Kudos to Heather Graham for giving me my up all night reading back.
I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.
Special Agent Amy Larson with FDLE and Special Agent Hunter Forrest with FBI are on vacation when they receive a small, red toy horse. They leave immediately for Florida where they find a crime scene in the Everglades. It appears to be gang related, but a similar red toy horse is found at the scene. Amy and Hunter know this horse represents war and the apocalyptic cult is still alive. Someone is killing the witnesses and leads. With the gang crimes spreading nationwide, Amy and Hunter race to reveal clues that do not lead to a dead end. They must discover who the puppet master is so they can end the killings.
Heather Graham's raw and gritty crime scenes give the sense of real murder and destruction. She lightens this dark atmosphere with levity and a romance. The friendships offer even a greater balance. This is the second novel in the Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest FBI series. I read the series out of order. I was able to follow along with ease. To get a fuller picture of the series, I suggest the books be read in order. It builds upon the suspense of the cult and lets the reader witness how deeply the love grows between Amy and Hunter. Adult situation and language.
This story had Agent Amy Larson and FBI agent Hunter Forest trying to stop an all out war. Gang members are being killed, attacks on all religions being attempted, all to jumpstart the prophecy of the Apocalypse as written in Revelations. The killers are killed whether the are successful in their missions or not. How can they stop the all out war that is about to break out?
The agents are needed around the US to try to stop the war and catch the "red Horse" leader. Will they be able to find some clues to stop the insanity before it's too late? Guess you'll have to read it to find out.
TW//CW brutality, gory, gruesome, massacre, murder, terrorism, violence
I loveee the first book in this series so I was super excited for this second book. This series is a mystery thriller about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the first book is aboout "white horse", so this second book is about "red horse" and that means war. This book started with a massacre in the Everglades, and since then is a race to stop any kind of wars happening and find who's behind all of this, and many bodies found with gory details. I love the suspense, the way I keep expecting something bad will happen in the next page. I also love the police procedural with all those interviewing witnesses, love how everyone is a perfect suspect, and keep guessing who is the "red horse". Love the twist even though it's a bit predictable, there's also a repititions here and there but it doesn't take away all the fun.
As for Amy and Hunter, I like this couple and love how they have each other's back, love how they protect each other and don't want to be apart, they worry about each other, that's just so sweet.
A great suspense read with loveable characters, definitely highly recommended book from me.
How did this get published?
I don't usually finish books I don't like but I was mesmerized by how bad this one was. The dialogue was unnatural and seemed to exist just to pad the book. I think maybe half the book was small talk between law enforcement characters.
Speaking of characters, it seemed like she introduced someone new and barely relevant every chapter. Every character was a stereotype. And there were like three scenes of Hunter and Amy getting it on in a hotel room that did absolutely nothing to advance the plot or enrich the characters.
There was a lot of weird pontificating too, and the characters agreeing with each other like some kind of hive mind representing the author's personal morality. One that stood out to me was a half-page conversation between a priest and the detectives about how most religions are inherently good. Real earth-shattering stuff.
Anyway, I'm sure Heather Graham has some decent stuff in her portfolio of 150+ published books, but this ain't one of them.
Crimson Summer by Heather Graham is the 2nd book in her Amy Larsen & Hunter Forest FBI series. I did not read the first book in this series (guess I missed it), but this reads very well as a standalone. Amy Larson (FDLE special agent) and Hunter Forest (FBI special agent) are our heroes in this series. The storyline revolves around an apocalypse threat (the four horsemen), which concentrated on the first book being a cult, and using the white horse. While on vacation, Amy and Hunter discover someone left them a gift, a red horse toy; knowing the danger in that message, as well as learning that there was a bloody gang massacre in the Everglades; they cut their vacation short and return to Florida to help investigate the massacre and red horse clue.
The tension and suspense escalate, especially between rival gangs, as another mass murder happens in New York, as well as threats in Chicago. Amy and Hunter begin to suspect that a violent, extremist group maybe behind the war, as there are many twists and turns along the way, leading them to try and figure out who the real person is behind the scenes.
What follows is a fast paced, exciting, suspenseful thriller that even puts innocent people in danger. Amy and Hunter race against the clock to protect the innocents, and find the villain. There were a number of surprises, and to say too much more would be spoilers. I really loved Amy and Hunter together, as they made a great team, not to mention romance. Since there is more horseman to come, I look forward to reading what Graham has in store for us. Crimson Summer was so very well written by Heather Graham. If you enjoy exciting suspense thrillers, you need to read this book; especially Graham is one of the best in writing suspenseful novels.
When it looks like a turf war has begun between rival gangs, Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest arrive on scene, not convinced that this is a single incident. While on holidays they received yet another toy horse which indicates that this is yet again the work of a madman who is proclaiming the Apocalypse of the Four Horsemen. As the body count increases, Amy and Hunter must race against the clock to find who the puppet master really is. Can they stop the madness and finally find the mastermind behind the curtain of destruction?
This novel by Heather Graham will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. As the story develops, the plot twists and turns even more than you can imagine. Just when you think you know what is happening, the story takes on a new direction. As other readers have suggested, I would agree that you should start with the first book, Danger in Numbers to get familiar with not only the plot of the series but also the characters. There is plenty of insights to direct you in the second book, but honestly, the series is so amazing, you do not want to miss a thing. I received an advanced copy of this book from Harlequin Publishing, Netgalley and Heather Graham and voluntarily provided an honest review. A riveting five star read.
A tourist group stumbles upon a massacre in the Everglades. FDLE special agent Amy Larson discovers a small horse figurine amid the bloody aftermath. The toy is the calling card of the apocalypse cult that Amy and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating.
As tensions between rival gangs rise, so does the body count, and Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent, far-right extremist group who are in no hurry to quell the civil unrest. With a deadly puppet master working to silence their every lead, it’s a race against the clock to figure out who’s been pulling the strings.
They question al the tourists and then it looks like the tourists lives are at stake as it seems they may know something. As the investigation goes on I began to wonder myself just who is telling the truth, who is lying, and who really doesn't know anything,
As the investigation leads them to another murder in NY city they are still trying to see how it ties into the Everglades murders.
I like how Amy and Hunter work together but also how they can set aside what happened by the end of the day to be together as real partners and to be able to eat and sleep until the next day,
Thank you to Mira(Harper Collins) and NetGalley for the book to review.
In Crimson Summer, a bloody gang massacre is found in the Florida Everglades. It sounds like a typical Florida day until a small red horse is found in a pool of blood. Florida Special Agent Amy and her boyfriend, FBI Special Agent Hunter, are put on the case because of a previous run-in with an apocalyptic cult that used the same toy horse but one white in color. Can they find the mastermind behind this act before it triggers a gang war?
I enjoyed the plot and especially the characters. However, I would have liked it much more if I had read the first in the series, Danger in Numbers. This book only briefly outlines that book while also simultaneously ruining any surprises within it. There are two more books planned (for the third and fourth horseman of the apocalypse). If you haven’t read the first in the series, Crimson Summer is good but somewhat confusing. 4 stars!
Thanks to MIRA and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Crimson Summer is Book 2 in the Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest series- and just like the first, this book was great. I spoke with an awesome police procedural that tied in perfectly well to the first in the series.
Directly following the first book, Amy and Hunter are thrown back into war against the second horseman from the apocalypse. This person is trying to incite, gang wars, and Amy and Hunter have to stop it.
While I absolutely loved the book, and Heather Graham’s writing is amazing, I could’ve done without the every single time Hunter and Amy got back to hotel. They jumped each other’s bones. Lol.
Good solid police procedural.
