Traces the role of Ivan the Terrible in Russian history and the thinking of Russian historians, emphasizing the political actions and ideals of the sixteenth-century czar as they have shaped Russia's development through the present
More historiography than history, since a huge chunk of this is about how a bunch of other historians were right or wrong or both in interpreting various aspects of Russian history, particularly around Ivan IV. Very dense and with lots of layers, the only reason I don’t mark this 5 stars is because of how dated it is. To the right expert I’m sure it’s a 5, but I’m not that expert.
