Here's the thing about addiction. You don't choose the lifestyle, it chooses you. You can have all the good intentions in the world, but unless you stop using, none of them will happen.

Inseparable is an Audible Original based on the non-fiction book Mum, can you lend me twenty quid?. It tells the story of identical twins Nick and Simon who grew up in the 1990s and as the title says were inseparable since birth. They did everything together and eventually began experimenting with drugs as teenagers and later became addicts. This story is a mother's journey to save her sons and the lengths she goes to in order to do that. It also exposes how drug addiction not only affects the users but also their families. It's a tragic tale, but one that needs to be told.

At the end listeners get to hear from the twin's mother and author of this book (Elizabeth Burton-Phillips) as well as Simon who gives more insight about everything that happened and how they are coping every day to try to move forward.

This is a devastating story of a mother's fight to save her twin sons from their drug addiction, which I realised at the end was actually a true story.

Every mother's nightmare must be their child becoming a drug addict, and a mother will do anything to save them - unfortunately, there is no instruction manual for this.

The full cast production is very good, and should be played in schools as a warning about the terrible consequences of addiction.

I don't usually write long reviews but i thought this deserved one. I didn't realise it was a true story until the end I admit as I enjoy my audible marathons.

This is brillant short story which is based on real life events involving two indentical twins who gain a drug addiction in teenhood and battle for years to try and get clean. It gives good insight into the life of drug addiction and shares a mother's heartbreaking experience. She is trying to help her sons in anyway she can in hopes to aid in their recovery but is warned by those around her that in fact she could be enabling their behaviour which could have the opposite effect and aid in their addiction.

I totally understand this being a mum and there is no sign posts telling you which way to go for the best outcome. We just do what we can for our children out of a mother's Love and hope for the best really.

She is torn between three as at home she is also trying to managing the growing conflict with her husband over this intense situation with her twins and after being given a choice, she must choose whether to leave her sons to fend for themselves in the mess they have created or to loose her husband. The twins have blead them dry financially and emotionally but nothing can change her Love for them. Upon being given this ultimatum, she has to make some tough decisions.

Decisions in my opinion which had no right or wrong choice and until you face such situations, you can not really say how you would or wouldn't handle it.

There is very good narrative from audible for this book and it had my heart strings being tugged at for the mother in despair at her sons actions. As a mother myself, i know kids can be good at breaking our hearts unintentionally. It was entangled with a uncertainty whether they will get better and it shares in the story on how one twin stuggles to get clean without the other. I would recommend a read of this true story to find out how how things develop and gain insite into the life of addiction and perspectives from the different parties involved.

I hope you like my review I edited about 20 times before I got it right.. I always stuggle to write right the first time 😅 ✍️. dyslexia and perfectionism is very time consuming 😅.

Imagine the most sanctimonious, heavy-handed "JUST SAY NO" PSA attempting to pass itself off as a fictional narrative that you could ever be forced to endure; complete with characters brushing up against the fourth wall to lecture the audience about #PersonalResponsibility. Now imagine it dragging on and on beyond the patience of a saint as one or both of the twins hit rock bottom, start to get clean and then fall off the wagon over and over again; descending ever deeper into harder and harder drugs as their lives continue to decay all around them. Then imagine sitting through what felt like the 17th ending in a row before rage-quitting when you realise that there's still two hours of this drivel left wade through! And then finally, thank your lucky stars that you only imagined this torture instead of having to actually endure it, then go and watch "Trainspotting" instead. Because as an exploration of addiction, a work of engaging drama and every other standard by which it could every be judged, that 30 year old film is superior to this sanctimonious pile of horse manure in every possible way.

Awful storytelling. Someone said it's like Trainspotting. It's not.

A horrendous and beautiful story of how drug addiction can throughly destroy a family.
