Caught up in a dangerous tug of war to win dominion over territory, twin brothers unlock a secret that rewrites their fates, while changing the city they call home forever…The year is 1995. Chicago morphs into a shining modern metropolis, where law and order has found its abode under the authoritarian leadership of Patrick McAuley. But the dark underbelly of the police chief’s home is yet to be eradicated. Lurking in the shadows, the leader of the Bratva, Kirill Petrov, bides his time to wrestle away his enemy’s control.
Michael McAuley enters the fray, offering his unique skills as detective to secure the hopes of a father he idolizes, and a brother he hopes to protect.
But heartfelt devotion soon outweighs the power of duty.
An inexplicable psychic link—dormant at youth, but steadily growing—intertwines the thoughts of the brothers, exposing each to the hopes and traumas of the other.
Aiden McAuley, troubled since his teens, finally reveals his withdrawn mind to his brother during an outcry for help.
What it reveals affects Michael’s loyalty to his father forever.
Rattled by the discomposing revelations, Michael seeks out the aid of the enemy he once hoped to expose, with the intent of forming an uneasy alliance.
As the taint of secrets and the lure of power work their way upon the hearts of heroes and villains alike, only one faction risks emerging as a victim of the struggle…
A very interesting book. I like the twist and the end. Already pre-ordered the next book. This is the prequel to the series. I like the writing style, but the author is a bit wordy. In the beginning it's a little too much flowery description. That being said, it did not take anything away from the book. Keep reading, it's worth it and you will want the next book, coming to Amazon April 2.
I found this a bit hard to get into at the start, my mind just wasn’t getting it but it didn’t take too long, maybe 50% into the story and it was slowly starting to fall into place, by the end it all makes sense, so I do think this is a good start th the series. Good characters and I suspect we are going to learn even more about them. I received this book for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
Loved the concept and although short it was engaging. One of the many things scientists and medical specialists have been trying to understand for years. It certainly makes you think how the CIA, and other similar organisations could benefit from this phenomenon.
When the psychic connection between Michael and his twin brother Aiden strengthens as they get older, Michael becomes aware of the horrific activity that Aiden is being subjected to. This story may be damaging for victims of sexual abuse. Highly recommended.
This book starts slowly but is definitely worth sticking with. Whilst this is a complete story in itself, it sets the scene nicely for future books (which I will be reading).
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
