Astelle, the empire's one-day empress brought with her a secret when she left the palace after the divorce: she was pregnant with Emperor Kaizen's child. Six years later, Astelle is living a peaceful life in the countryside with their son until the imperial guards come knocking. Kaizen requires Astelle's consent to receive the key territory of Meilen. With the empire still in turmoil from a rebellion, will Astelle be able to hide her son's identity from these threatening forces, and more importantly, from his father, the emperor?

YOUTUBE FIRST IMPRESSION VIDEO: https://youtu.be/V0ad3l9OpBk

This was such an addictive first volume!

Though goodness, did Kaizen make me so angry at several points! You divorced your wife after the first night together, and then SIX YEARS LATER you have the audacity to act jealous when another man talks to her?! Excuse me, sir, you have zero right! 😤

This volume doesn’t exactly show what happened from his point of view and why he called off their marriage, but we do see that he obviously is not over her. I think that was especially relevant at the very end, but also in moments where he expresses wanting her to dine with him and apologize to her about things happening in the story.

For now, I would say man is in the doghouse, but I’m curious enough that I want to know what he was thinking in the past and what he’s thinking now.

The star of the show is by far Astelle!

I was truly blown away by how calm she was during everything that’s happening! Not only that, but to be so level-headed that you can make quick decisions for the sake of you and your child was incredible! As a mom, I don’t think I would have handled the situation in any kind of similar way she did, and it makes me admire her all the more!

I especially loved how she put another character in their place time and time again. As she said, that man is completely underestimating her, and I believe it will come back to bite him one day.

Speaking of him, I do not know what the man’s problem is, but his good looks are wasted on him. I want to say I hope we don’t see more of him in the future, but I fear that, with how close he is to the emperor, he will be prevalent for a while yet. 😭

Lastly, sweet Theore was adorable! He was so brave with everything that’s happening and following exactly what his mom taught him! I adored him so much! His love for bears was also cute, and I could not get enough of the last chapter and him radiating with happiness!

Overall, I enjoyed this volume a lot! I might have beef with the male lead, but the story was very compelling and engaging! I would be eager to see what happens next and would recommend it to those who like a strong heroine willing to do whatever needs to be done to keep her family safe and outmaneuver those who are against her!

One of the best manhwa I’ve read in a looong time. Gorgeous art, interesting characters, and enough tension and mystery to have you tearing through the pages. Astelle and Theore deserve the WORLD…and Kaizen is a doofus but you can tell the man’s trying his best. 😂

The art is weak, it is true that the story line makes sense, but the characters are still not that strong or lovalable, and the story of the separation of the fl and the ml didn't make much sense in my opinion.

The manhwa is actually not finished yet, so I am waiting for season 4 but I still want to give a little review.

First of I didn’t read the novels and I don’t plan to either, for me this manhwa was such a gem!
I honestly didn’t think i would enjoy it that much but I absolutely did! I was invested from the first second and loved the whole story line.
I absolutely adore Theore. It was such a satisfying feeling to see Kaizen getting redemption arc!
Also can we please appreciate how caring and understanding he was to Theore?! Man this really melted my heart💓!!
I hope that Kaizen, Astelle and adorable Theore can live happily and in peace and everyone get their desired happy ending! (Well certainly not for the trashy father thought lol)

This has something of The Remarried Empress to it, although the emperor is nowhere near as much of a dingle as Sovieshu (yet).

In Summary
Astelle spent years mastering court etiquette and various fields of study to become a perfect Empress. Now she uses that knowledge–plus skills picked up from a top-notch apothecary–to get herself and her son as far from the Emperor as possible. Astelle’s various competencies and events that instigated her divorce stretch the imagination somewhat, but if you’re okay with the precisely timed premise, you’re in for a compelling drama where the heroine has only her own abilities to rely on to navigate the dangers of the palace court.

The Review
Astelle von Leston trained for years to become the perfect wife to Kaizen, heir to the Rastiel Empire. But her future as empress goes up in smoke when Kaizen’s father dies the morning after their wedding. Kaizen immediately divorces her, and Astelle’s power-hungry father disowns her in disgust. However, unbeknownst to both men, Astelle’s wedding night left her pregnant with Kaizen’s child. With the Empire in an uproar over Kaizen’s new policies, Astelle hides her child’s true parentage to keep him from becoming a political pawn. But when Kaizen summons her back after six years, will she and her five-year-old son be able to maintain the ruse?

The promotional material for How to Hide the Emperor’s Child stated that the series will appeal to readers of The Remarried Empress, and it’s right. This manhwa has a European fantasy setting, court intrigue, political conflict, and a heroine who is beautiful, dutiful, smart, and has been dealt an appalling injustice from the husband to whom she’s devoted everything. In Astelle’s case, however, the inciting incident is much more abrupt and convoluted than in The Remarried Empress. For the Emperor to die the day after his son’s wedding sounds so fishy, I’m surprised the word “assassination” wasn’t mentioned in the aftermath. However, if you’re willing to accept the peculiar timing of this set-up, you’re in for an engaging drama.

On one level, there is the turmoil splitting the Empire. Kaizen and Astelle were betrothed at the age of ten, but by the time they are adults, things have soured between Kaizen and Astelle’s father, the Duke of Lestern. As soon as he’s crowned, Kaizen begins culling the corrupt aristocracy, leading to a revolt that eliminates most of the nobility. However, the Duke of Lestern manages to maintain his position and, six years later, heads the aristocratic faction that opposes Kaizen’s Imperial faction. With her ex-husband and father mortal enemies, Astelle’s treated with suspicion on all sides and must walk a precarious tightrope to maintain her freedom and not make additional enemies.

Then there is Astelle’s relationship with Kaizen. Though she swore to forget him, old feelings resurface when he tracks her down to get her consent on a legal issue concerning the Grand Empress Dowager’s domain. As for Kaizen, his demeanor is icy in all their interactions, yet his closest aide insinuates Kaizen is soft on her. There’s also the very odd fact that Kaizen has not remarried. Heirs and line of succession are of utmost importance to royals, which leaves readers wondering what Kaizen’s true feelings are and his motivation for the sudden divorce. But even though the Emperor is not actively seeking a bride, opportunistic nobles are parading their daughters before him. Which creates more problems for Astelle, because they see her as competition.

Finally, there is Theore, the Emperor’s child. With help from Astelle’s only ally, her maternal grandfather, she passes Theore off as the illegitimate son of her deceased older brother. The only thing preventing this nephew alias from being watertight is that those with royal blood have red eyes, and Theore – you guessed it – has those red eyes. However, Astelle conveniently met an apothecary, who, in addition to teaching Astelle enough about her trade so she can use it to her advantage, concocted a special eyedrop that changes eye colors. However, the effect only lasts half a day. So once they are in the Emperor’s custody for the duration of the inheritance legal proceedings, Astelle’s challenge is to maintain Theore’s eye color without people noticing.

On top of that, the boy is only five. While he is obedient to his mother and knows to call her “Auntie” around strangers, he is too young to comprehend the reasons behind the act or the dangers surrounding them, which makes him a bit of a wildcard during spontaneous interactions. Astelle, of course, loves her son and is fiercely protective of him. Interestingly, Kaizen, for all his harsh demeanor and cold words, has a soft spot for kids – or at least well-behaved ones. So readers get to see him wearing an entirely different expression with Theore when Astelle is not in the room.

The quality and style of the illustrations are on par with other Inklore Korean Webtoon titles. Artwork is rendered in full color on glossy paper. Extras include bonus art.

This shit? Now this shit was good. I just finished season 1 and DAMN. I love this. I love how the mmc didn’t immediately figure out the kid was his and they built a relationship and bond. And honestly I like all the angst and hurt but If they don’t start talking soon I may just lose it. I don’t know how many volumes of this there is but I’ll probably rate an equal amount to what I think season 1 is. Won’t review them tho. This is the review for season 1. I honestly sincerely hope that when the emperor does find out the child is his he realizes. Or at least allows the mc to talk. About why he was hidden. How she doesn’t want her son thrown into a war and wants him to live a happy life. How he said he would protect her and he didn’t and she doesn’t trust him. I would also like to know why the mmc has a fear? Of blood. He doesn’t like seeing it on her so I think it’s a métaphore for how he doesn’t want to taint her pure energy with his dirty one. I also wish they would go more into his childhood. He has a rightful mistrust for snakes and wants to get rid of corrupt people but we don’t really know why. He. Was raised by his grandma. Like. That’s kinda all we know. His parents. Or at least his mom. Is dead. And we also see one panel where he says he doesn’t want any more people to be sacrificed with what I assume is his child self next to his mother’s open casket. There could be. So much more. Stuff going on honestly. But alas. 50 chapters and all I got is. Vague world building. I hope it gets better because I really do like where it’s heading.

I was hooked right off the bat. Even though it is obvious the Emperor did it for a good reason and he is still in love with Astelle, I didn't care. I wanted to watch them realize their love for one another. Theo is the stinking cutest. When the Emperor tried to stop him from crying after the dead bear incident, I lost it, ha.

I liked the artwork. Some scenes were so beautiful that the characters just had flowers around them. I also really enjoyed Astelles' confidence and witt. She was born to be an Empress. Even Marian grew on me. It's not often you get to see a spoiled brat blossom into such a badass.

Well, that's all the good things. So I read, and I read, and after 100 chapters, I realized I would never get to see the romance grow like it should. It was super pg and closed door to the point where I think they might have kissed twice..... maybe. Also, the parents needed to put a bell on that child. He was always getting kidnapped. Literally, every few chapters, something super drastic was happening because the romance sure wasn't.

Maybe if you just liked political intrigue, you might like this manga, but honestly, the story didn't make sense at times. I'm not sure if it was due to poor translation or the author. I just really wanted to see these two people reconnect, and I feel like I had to take 50 side quests to see a little glimpse of what I wanted. I finally just gave up around chapters 110. I've read complaints that the manga strays from the novel. If so, I might try it instead.

The art was okay; the characters were memorable but normal. The plot though, was really poorly constructed. It had so many plot holes and the characters and their motives were just plain stupid. The main characters just kept dancing to the beat of the villains' schemes, and I still don't understand why everyone and anyone could just enter the palace and the Majesty's chambers as they pleased, at any time of day willy-nilly.

With that said, it did have golden moments that tug the heartstrings. This is what really keeps you reading. You want to root for the couple to resolve their misunderstandings and find their happy ending. The family moments make one smile, and the couple's relationship was cute. The glaring plot holes are noticeable but ignorable.

I am an absolute sucker for the hidden pregnancy/secret baby trope! This manhwa has a morally-grey cast of characters with lots of political intrigue and a very subtle romance subplot. I loved baby Theore and Astelle’s dynamic as mom and son. They’re so cute! We have a very cunning and smart former empress for an FMC. Her characterization was written nicely because she wasn’t easy to manipulate and wasn’t a pushover. Kaizen is also a nice MMC, very much a 🚩 but trust the process. Their chemistry is perfect! They’ve known each other for nearly 20 years and I find that so sweet because they grew up together. The author ensured that the plot was never boring and I love that.

the storyline isn’t terrible and I’m still intrigued, but it’s kind of unrealistic how nobody, not even the emperor, can put two and two together that Theo is his son. I mean cmon he’s literally his twin 😭 and everytime our fl is about to get exposed with the eye color situation she randomly finds a way to upper hand everyone. so everyone is suspicious of her but no one thinks to question who the young boy she’s with truly is?? also there’s not enough backstory on our leads yet, so the relationship between them feels weird. idk…way too unrealistic but I’ll keep reading to see what happens

Fascinating how much ground the first chapter covered. It was a bit jarring. Astelle is asked for a divorce after being married for a day, she agrees, pisses off her father, and then we cut to 6 years after she had the Emperor's child.

As with several manhwas, the FMC lacks in personality. She's determined, so I guess that makes up for little backstory or life outside of the child. However, the Emperor seems like a knob so, I get reading and rooting against him and for the child to never be found out by this guy. I'm curious enough to continue on.

completed: chapter 113

the emperor was pretty toxic at the start. i didn’t like him because of how he acted while the female lead just wanted a happy life. astelle, upon finding out she’s pregnant, left secretly and kept her son’s secret. years later, the truth still caught up with them and the emperor found his runaway empress and son.

it was okay, i stayed until the end because i wanted to see how things unfolded.

A page-turner story. Just like Astelle & Theore, I too, cant sit still thruout my reading. Tho the final arc got me confused for a moment, I’m happy with the punishments given by Astelle. Truly a queen. Theore, I love you, you cutie pie. Kaizen, I love you too although you are too dense for your own good 😂

Theore is so cute.
The main characters are mega. The emperor is cool even if he seems aloof and I'm curious why.Astelle is not naive and like the usual princesses and I love what she does for Theore and how far she goes to protect him. It makes you wonder if she will make it and how scared she is for her child. She doesn't give in, she's smart and honest and I think she fits so well with Kaisen.
