Zuri Abayomi doesn’t need her nation’s eccentric oracle to reveal her destiny. She’s going to become the general of her father’s armies whether she likes it or not. But not even she can go against tradition. On Zuri’s coming-of-age day, the oracle sends her on a strange quest, far away from her people and into the territory of their sworn enemies.
Find the serpent slayer and the one who would never be king. Give them what’s inside the Oracle’s mysterious little box. Discover her destiny. But her path looks nothing like she imagined.
When dark magic brings to life an evil sorceress and her shadow griffins to terrorize the Griffin Vales and bring about a civil war that’s been brewing for centuries, Zuri must set aside everything she thought she knew and take up the ancient magic of the Spell Keeper.
And, for once, she can’t do it on her own. It’ll take the help of another magic wielder, a nun-turned treasure hunter, an ex-order captain, their motley crew of pirate friends, and—by far the worst—the prince of the nation she’s been trained to destroy.
Yet their efforts won’t be enough to defeat an evil sorceress and stop the destruction of both nations if Zuri can’t find a way to heal a past she’s fought hard to forget in order to unlock the magic that’s always been inside her.
Another great adventure with the pirate crew of the Magian world that McGriff has built who are on their way to saving the world. New characters that bring strength, smarts, and great humor to their quest had me laughing out loud. Of course there were monsters and impossible tasks, and fun new toys, I mean weapons, to save the day. Looking forward to their continued journey.
Do you like magical quests? Might I suggest a magical quest with PIRATES? The books in the Magian series just keep getting better! More ancient and magical artifacts! More cursed locations! More Indiana Jones-eque treasure hunts! More nuns! Just kidding, there’s still just the one nun, but she does kick even more butt. In book 3, The Spell Keeper, two new heroes join our pirate crew. Zuri was raised to be a warrior, but she’d rather forge her own path. Jabari is my new favourite character of the series. He’s my nerdy cinnamon roll prince charming and I just love him. The stakes are rising for our favourite rag tag band of misfit heroes as the Prophecy throws a new and more dangerous villain in their path. They must outsmart and defeat the sorceress if they have any hope of moving forward with their quest to save all of Magia from the vengeful god Bedros and his nasty monsters. This book is a wild ride of action, adventure, and humour!
Super fun and I laughed all the way through. Jabari made me laugh the most. If you love Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Caribbean, this is surely going to keep you entertained. The author brings back some of my favorite characters from books 1 and 2 and then introduces us to more characters with even better shenanigans, treasure hunting, and bravery-testing and ticked all the boxes for me for a relaxed, entertaining read that would be perfect at a beach (though sadly none were warm enough to visit in my state in April).
Little late but OH MY GODS, THIS WAS JUST...WOW. I'm telling you every time I read MJ's writing, I am BLOWN AWAY! This was EVERYTHING! I don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling so I won't🤭 GET THIS BOOK. GET THE ENTIRE SERIES. NOW.
This book blew me away! The first two books in this series were phenomenal, and this one didn’t disappoint. McGriff knows just how to ramp that tension from 0-100 and keep you on the edge of your seat! Another series that is highly recommended.
