Call Me Jemila is a strangers to lovers romance with a hint of suspense. It is part of the Skyline Novels and the first book in the Tokunbo Universe. Should be read as a standalone.
WARNING: This book contains sensitive topics, explicit sexual content and profanity. Recommended for 18+.

Call Me Jemila was an interestingly honest read. I liked that it addresses day to day issues from single parenting to the difficulties associated with divorce, to being a people pleaser, to friendships; quality and otherwise, to two broken individuals trying to make their relationship work; baggages and all, to the very touchy topic of pro-life and pro-choices.
To think I started off not liking Jidenna but at the end of the day, he is a good man and his motives are pure.
Weldone CAMAA, as always you've put together another book you can't put down once you start reading.
Once again, I’m in awe of Camaa’s talent. Call Me Jemila is packed full of emotions and I love how relatable the characters are. Camaa shows us that at the end of the day, we are human and will always be. Well done, Camaa!
You will enjoy reading Jemila and Jidenna's story on love, trust, deal breakers, family, second chances, the trials of international students, the uncertainties that comes after graduation, the ultimate choice of being a parent, morally gray men, and sexual taboo acts.
Sometimes you have to be ready to fight for love, you have to open your heart to love, and take that bold step to fill love.
Camma pearl executes all this flawlessly, as we follow through the lives of jemila and jidenna. Personally I was held spell bound, I could feel every emotion they both went through . This is one book you can't afford not to read. Camma Pearl deserves her flowers
This is one of my favorite book so far. The passion, pain everything was relatable. Camaa pearl manages to Capture and suck us all into the world of the characters. Not everyone can do that. It was a great book. 🙌🏾
Jemila and Jidenna’s story is such a beautiful love story. It is so realistic, romantic and relatable.
It paints a beautiful picture of love and shows us that love is worth fighting for.
Camaa is such a talented writer. Her writing style is unique and she writes romantic novels with a flourish.
This was such a beautiful book with lots of suspense, emotions, twists and turns. It’s a must read, so grab yourself a copy now. Don’t believe me? Then buy a copy, read and find out for yourself.
This review is entirely my own and was not influenced in anyway. I received an ARC and I’m so grateful for it.
I read this book and Jidenna, stole my heart flaws and all. Nobody is perfect, but he tried to live life with the cards he was dealt. A real gentleman 🙂. Jemila thought she was strong, but when love strikes, everything changes.
A great book and Camaa is a pro at writing multiple characters in a book.
This was a gorgeous love story by Camaa, my favorite of her stories so far. I loved the slow burn between Jemila and Jidenna, and how she took us on such an intense journey as their love progressed and as Jemila's very very very many layers (the girl be like onion, I swear) unravelled. I loved the twist in the end that I didn't see coming. Overall, it was an excellent read for me!
Reading this book reminded me of what it was like as an International Undergraduate student. The struggles but Jemila had it good since she was on scholarship 🤣.
Camaa Pearl touches on some heavy themes that are seemingly taboo and private but makes it very readable.
This is a story about two broken people on the inside, Jemila and Jidenna, who on a normal day, if I saw them or got to meet them in our current world, I would love to be like them or even envy their beauty, accomplishments, and might even envy Jemila for having a guy like Jidenna just like Nimi and Ronke were envious of her in the book, or definitely be like Clive or Fure, who wanted Jemila to see them as
One of the lessons I took away from the book is that we should never allow our past to deter our present and future. Our past shouldn't be the controller of our present and future. Because when we do give our past permission to control our present,it doesn't only affect us and our loved ones.
The issue of prejudice is another theme. I love as a reader of this book,I really came to realise that inasmuch we want people to show us love regardless of circumstances surrounding us,to love us for who we are, there are just some of us who are not ready to do the same for these same people who have come to accept us regardless of circumstances that surround us. Though our level of maturity to accept people past may vary, we still owe them the duty of care to show them kindness.
Also, I loved the fact that Jemila was able to conquer the habit of always trying to please people in the end,as it made even her closest allies respect her boundaries.
I love the siblings' friendship in the novel,Jidenna and Onyekachi, always having each other's back. Jemila and Ronke have a friendship that seems like a sisterhood.
Call me Jemila was such a good read. I enjoyed getting to be one of the beta readers.
Looking for a wonderful way to spend this August? Then watch out for the release of " Call Me Jemila" on the 10th of August 2022.
I love well-crafted stories and this one got me wowing. This book is simply amazing. The characters eh Kai! My Jidenna... Yes, I call him mine because I love him so much even with his flaws.
Jamila is also a one amazing, strong character in a small body 😁. The supporting characters are just superb. They moved this story forward. I also have to talk about the spicy scenes, Eish! So hot and sizzling.
Loved this book, Jemila and Jidenna's story is that of a love that is enduring. So happy that they were a ble to work out their differences by giving love a chance. Good job on the part of the author.
This is one of the best books I read in August 2022. This book is loaded with emotions and it is 'sophisticatedly' written. A master piece! I rate it 5⭐s and much more. Well done dear author!
Great plot with so much potential. Unfortunately the writing fell short, the chemistry between the love interests was almost nonexistent, the main character was a bit boring and the author, just can’t write :( Not to mention the hundreds of typos . I read this after “call me Legachi” by Adesuwa Nwokedi and I had the highest of hopes because that book? 10/10. Unfortunately this didn’t live up to my expectations.
Thank you Jemila and Jidenna for giving me episodes of tachycardia, but it wasn't enough to have a heart attack. When love strikes, it creates a 360 degree turn sometimes. Thanks Camaa, thanks for delivering such a riveting read and the way you write two strong characters still baffles me. I totally enjoyed this
There's a lot to unpack and so many things I want to talk about in this book.
But my favorite part is how it ends. With how the story progressed I was so afraid it would have a typical and dare I say, unrealistic ending but it didn't and I'm glad. I'm really struggling to give this review without spoilers.
Call Me Jemila surprised me in the best way. It’s messy, soft, and heavy all at once — a romance layered with emotional depth and the kind of healing that forces you to confront who you are and who you want to become. I finished it in a day because I was fully invested in Jemila and Jidenna’s journey.
Jemila and Jidenna are realistic, flawed individuals trying to choose happiness over their pasts. They walk into each other’s lives already carrying years’ worth of trauma. There’s a quiet desperation in both of them to be loved, but also a persistent fear —of not being enough & that their pasts will ruin everything.
I loved the author’s raw depiction of relationships and the work real love demands. The story also highlights the truth that love doesn’t erase trauma. Jidenna is a man battling his demons yet still wanting better for himself. Jemila, on the other hand, is trying to forge her own path while learning to set boundaries and reclaim her self-worth.
The MMC tested my patience more than once, but I still rooted for both of them. Their tension and emotional scars made their journey feel earned. That said, there were moments when I wanted a bit more emotional intimacy.
♡ Some Aspects I Loved - Flawed characters who actually grow. - A realistic view of love and healing. - The emphasis on not letting the past define you. - The exploration of trauma, addiction, and self-worth without making the story feel bleak. - Relatable internal conflicts — identity, people-pleasing, relationship anxiety, the weight of past mistakes.
💭Final Thoughts Overall, this is a heartfelt and realistic romance that hits harder than you expect. If you love flawed characters, emotional arcs, and romance that embraces the messy parts while still leaning into vulnerability and healing, you’ll love this book.
If you thought Chiluba from Bottom Belle was the most straightforward female character Camaa Pearl has written, let me introduce you to Jemila. From the very first pages, her nonchalant personality and sharp wit had me laughing out loud. She says exactly what’s on her mind, and it’s effortlessly hilarious!
Jemila is a mix of introversion and carefreeness, making her such a unique and refreshing character. But beyond the humor, this book delivers a deeply emotional story. Midway through, my heart ached as things got complicated. Jidenna had to face the consequences of his actions, and the back-and-forth with Ada’s mom was just so frustrating yet so real. At some point, it felt hard to keep reading because of how heavy their struggles were, but then it hit me—adulthood itself is complicated.
The ending was everything I needed! After everything Jemila and Jidenna went through, I was relieved to see them pull through. And, of course, the spice was absolutely spicing—no complaints there!
If you love books that explore heartbreak, past mistakes, family dynamics, and friendships, this is definitely one to pick up. Highly recommend! ❤️
Jidenna and Jemila’s story is one that left me mouth agape a couple of times while reading. The development of the main characters throughout the book progressed seamlessly. The additional characters had the right amount of ‘screen time’😂
Not to say too much but if you’re looking for a book with the right amount of plot and smut, this is IT.
PS: I also found out it was connected to Call me Legachi and it’s actually a seven part book by different authors
If you are not yet a fan of Camaa Pearl, this book will definitely make you one. I obviously recommend this to the entire BookTok community.
Call Me Jemila is a slow-burn romance, but I found myself struggling to understand the depth of the love between Jemila and Jidenna. Their connection feels heavily based on sex, and it seems like that’s what they’re calling love. I kept waiting for that emotional vulnerability or real bond to show up, but it never really hit home for me.
That said, the smut was okay, nothing over the top, but it served its purpose. I just wish the relationship had more layers beyond the physical. Still, it’s an easy read for anyone who enjoys steamy drama and slow tension.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really don’t know what to say about this one, everything there was just messy, don’t get me wrong I loved the characters,I loved how jide is with jemila But I was confused at some point ,Jemila was just so cold sometimes she was a put on and off and jide I felt he rushed his feelings towards jemila,I think jemila was still trying to find herself you get?ion know that’s just what I feel Regardless I loved it 4.5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved it. The fact that she wants to be a part of a global organisation and leave her mark, that resonated with me deeply as that is also my path in life. We are somewhat alike. It was such a good read. I didn’t want it to end.
This is a very beautiful story, I have a thing for taboo sex and it was mentioned in the story, it's a well put together pieces of love, forgiveness, family, ambition and self discovery
I love ittttttt❤️ Their love story was incredible, one of growth and always returning to each other. I love them so so much And they got their Happy Ever After❤️
Ohhhh, Jidenna, they can never make me like you. Judgy fool. But I don't really see the development in Jemila's character. Yes, she was a people pleaser but when did she stopped being that?
This is a story of love, healing, and self-discovery, where the past lingers like a shadow, shaping the choices of its characters. Jemila and Jidenna, two imperfect yet compelling individuals, must confront their deepest wounds and take bold steps toward love, though neither is fully prepared for the impact it will have on their lives.
Camma Pearl weaves their journey, using foreshadowing to subtly hint at the storms ahead. Every lingering glance, every unspoken word, and every hesitation builds toward the inevitable reckoning of their emotions. Jidenna, despite his flaws, carries himself with quiet strength, while while Jemila learns to set boundaries and embrace her worth.
The novel explores resilience, self-acceptance, and the lasting grip of the past, reminding you that while you crave love and understanding, you must also be willing to offer the same in return, also the foreshadowing is done so well that, even before the twists unfold, you can feel them coming
