As I read this book, I couldn't help recalling the song "Onward Christian Soldiers," as I felt it significantly epitomizes the author's intention for having written this book.
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle see his banners go! Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.
At the sign of triumph, Satan's host doth flee; on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory! Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise; brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before….
Being a good soldier is following orders, in being a good Christian soldier is being obedient to the Lord.
As we move forwards in our relationship with the Lord, there are times that the question asides regarding this relationship deal with how far we have come in this relationship. And a major topic area of our self-examination relates to us being obedient to the Lord.
An indication of our genuine love for the Lord is obedience to His commands, and the solitary manner in which we can obey the Lord is by knowing the Lord's words. Luckily, as is usually the case, the Bible offers Scriptures that deal with compliance and consenting to the Lord's will.
According to Paul's Apostolic Authority in 2 CORINTHIANS 10:5 [NLT], we read the following:
"We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ."
No one can be obedient to the Lord by being a good following [soldier] unless they’re in possession of a battle plan, and through the pages of this book, author Duncan Ray Brannan, provides his readers with the wisdom of six ancient warrior cultures while incorporating the wisdom of the Lord through His words.
For wanting his readers to become good Christian soldiers, I’ve given Mr. Brannan 5 STARS for his endeavor here.
The Soldier’s Code has a strong call to action at each and every chapter or section in the book. It is impossible to read this book and not feel compelled to act, to truly enlist in the Lord’s army and passionately fight for His cause! The call to fellowship is strongest following the splintering of the church caused by the pandemic. May we all heed the call to training and discipline with the reinforcement of fellowship to cheerfully serve our Lord ALL OUT until we meet him face to face
