Lily learned long ago that not all bedtime stories have happy endings. Some just end in nightmares that stick with you forever. After bouncing around the foster system for years, seventeen-year-old Liliana Caldwell finally crash lands in the gloomy small-town of Idelwood, Colorado. But when she finds out that the people who live in this town know more about her past than she does, Lily is determined to find out why. Idelwood has secrets that demand to be heard by anyone who is willing to listen. Soon Lily is thrown in the middle of a brewing war between God’s Elite Angels and his Fallen children. The Elites main concern is her existence. She is a child of both sides, the first of her kind making her a dangerous abomination that the council demands be snuffed out. Lily soon realizes her parent’s pasts are coming back to disturb her as the towns famed ghost Claire Halloway begins to taunt her behind visions from the past. Controlling her newly developing abilities is hard enough, but a green-eyed devil draws Lily in with every electrifying touch they share. With the council breathing down her neck, Lily must learn to control the immense power her abilities bring or turn into the Night Monster every creature in the town sees’s her becoming. As darkness clouds her soul and secrets of her parents unravel before her eyes, Lily must decide who she wants to be. A monster hidden in the shadows or the puppet on the council's string.

Never trust a bedtimestory

Dark Radiance is one of the books that I will remember. It is a book that I will recommend to everyone who loves Twilight and Sweet Evil, as well as to someone who needs a good atmospheric book.

I wasn't the Night Monster they all imagined, but I would be the monster they feared.

Ease of Reading...
I loved the writing from page one. It truly was soooo good, that I couldn't believe that someone can write so well in her debut novel. I knew exactly where I was, what I was doing and what was around me. The scenery was spooky and cozy and everything a small town needed. And as for the pacing is concerned, it was so fast and easy to read. You can literally finish this book in a day!

The Characters...
The main character -Lily- was so likable, sweet and easy to comprehend. She knew what she wanted and she would do anything to get it. Her best friend -Aspyn- was a total badass and funny, and as far as her brother Asher-or else lover boy- is concerned, he was a hell of a ride. As for Finley, well... He has a special place in my heart. For the rest of the group, I wanted more! I wanted to know them better and to read more scenes about/with them, but I can understand that It is difficult to fit a lot in the first book.

The Plot...
The Plot was nice. There was an interest that kept the book going, not something unique, but certainly not boring. There were some common tropes that we love and dear, such as the orphan girl who doesn't know for what is capable of, the bad not so bad and arrogant boy, etc. The only thing that made me cut these 1 and a half stars was that the mystery didn't hold long enough. I needed more. I wanted to look by herself, to demand answers a little longer and not get them so easily. But that ending....😱 OK, I will stop now.

To sum up...
All in all, it was a sweet book, that will keep you a nice company in the winter and especially Halloween. It is extremely atmospheric, easy to love and to read, and It can easily evolve to something great and unforgettable.
I give it 3.5/5 stars and I recommend this book with all my heart!

Thank you Allison for providing me with an eARC!❤️

This was a fantastic read! I found this author through a tik tok video and hearing her talk about the storyline for her book had me so intrigued that I immediately went on Amazon and bought it. I mean come on bedtime stories about fallen angels turning out to be true, who wouldn't want to read that?!?

I was captured from the very first chapter and became so invested in Lily's story. There is so many layers to this little town that just when you think you are starting to figure it out and put all the pieces of this puzzle together, you get thrown this massive curve ball and are left just staring at the book opened mouthed shocked at not having seen that coming.

This book had everything you want in a good story, love, mystery and darkness. And that shock of an ending I am still not over!!!! I am dying to get my hands on the next chapter of Lily's story!

The only issues I had with this book were very small. I felt Asher and Lily's relationship was a little fast. But that's just personal preference as I love the suspense of the main couple fighting their feelings for each other and then when they finally give it it's like fireworks. I felt Lily and Asher was a bit rushed, kind of a blink and you miss it their a couple kind of thing. But like I said that's just my opinion and I still love this couple completely.

My other issue was that there seemed to be a lot of grammar errors. But that's no way the authors fault and didn't stop me from loving this story.

All in all a fantastic book that I am definitely invested in and highly recommend to any lover of the supernatural!

This is a combo of the fallen series-sweet evil series and the vampire diaries but somehow a lot better at least in my opinion.
I need more of this book please and thank you

This book is amazing — a perfect mixture of darkness, humor, romance, and action. I loved all the characters (but especially Finley, no shame) and was rooting for Lilli so hard! I was really interested in the “culture” of the angels and loved that we were given some details into the history. There are also some huge plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat and, if you’re like me, audibly gasp.

That ending though... how dare you Alli??

If you enjoy Twilight and Supernatural, you will 100% love this book. Pick it up and read it ASAP!!

It only took me 1 day to read this book, because it had me intrigued from start to finish! this book was amazing, the details itself made me feel like I was actually in the book, and this book is by far one of my favorites! Allison, you are an amazing author, and I cant wait to see what else you have in store for us readers! #DarkRadiance

This, my friends, needs to be made into a movie or TV show. It's the next Vampire Diaries or Twilight, but unique with fallen angels. I read an earlier draft and couldn't put it down. I am sure the final version is even better!

never trust a bedtime story

I need to start by saving this book genuinely got me out of my reading slump.
And now that that's out of the way we can continue.

There was such an ease of reading with this book. From the moment I picked it up I was transported to that bus and I couldn't not see Idelwood, with its green hue and bright, bright whites - very much the kind of filter over the Twilight films. The atmosphere was executed so well; never did I think a little town could be so ghostly and other while still being cozy and comforting. How Allison has done this I don't know, but I am genuinely obsessed with Idelwood.

i am so scared of losing the on thing that has made me feel anything since i fell

Now for the characters:
Our main character Lily has been tossed around all her life from town to town and lost everyone who she has ever cared for. Lily knows what she wants and takes no shit. And I LOVE IT! She is an absolute power house, metaphorically and literally. And when we pair Lily with her new best friend Aspyn, who is nothing short of a sassy pocket rocket, we have a new unstoppable power duo. I personally cannot wait for them to grow and blossom together! I mean it - Allison if you dare break them apart, I will pick out each hair on your head... Anyways... Now we have Mr Tall Dark And Handsome, aka Loverboy, aka Broody-Overprotective-You Touch Her You Die-Love Interest. Asher ticks all the boxes in that sense. Allison really has just gone in and made everyone's favourite fantasy love interest type of man, and I am not at all complaining. AND THE KITCHEN SCENE- SIR! Finally, I want to talk about Finley, Mr Morally Grey. I love a red head, so automatically Finley was going to find a special place in my heart. He's the perfect little dickhead who always surprises you. I am so, so excited to explore his story, especially based on the major points we already know about him.
I also want to say that every other side character in this book has made a home in my heart - especially a certain one named Mallory...

you have no idea how long i have waited to love you

The plot was really well paced. Allison hasn't overloaded this book with as many little things as possible. Everything we needed for the final few chapters was a perfect build up. We ended up with all the information we needed to still be shocked and (in my case) absolutely reeling. And it all made sense! Nothing in this book was done just because it could be done.
If there is anything I did want more of, it would be tease. Like I said, I loved the pace of this book, but even more teasing and demanding answers would have just been absolutely perfect.
Allison, my love, you know I love some edging... 👀

Overall I truly did love this book and am so so sooooo excited to return to Idelwood as the series continues.

I wasn't the night monster they all imagined, but I would be the monster they feared.

Dark Radiance follows Lily who is the daughter of an angel and a fallen angel, which gives her an unprecedented amount of power that no one has seen before. She starts to uncover these truths about herself and her past when she moves to a new town, after years of bouncing around from foster home to foster home.
This book was such an interesting concept! It had the vibes of The Vampire Diaries meets City of Bones. I’ve never read a book with angels and fallen angels as the main supernatural creatures and it was a refreshing change. The magic system underlying the story was intriguing as the reader discovered more and more alongside Lily.
This town had a large cast of characters, including Angels and Fallen, that all had a role to play in Lily’s story. I will say at times I had a hard time keeping track of who was who since there were so many characters, and because everyone also had nicknames (and I’m already bad enough with names lol). By the end of the book I think I had a pretty good grip on the characters and various connections. Underneath the main plot of discovering this supernatural world, there was a romance between Lily and Asher. At first, it did feel sort of insta-love but overall I enjoyed their scenes together.
The end of the book held a lot of twists and turns that ended with an exciting cliffhanger. There was a lot left unsaid and lot of unanswered questions. The book introduced a lot of new stories and characters that I think could lay the foundation for an exciting series. I think this first installment only touched the surface of this world and these characters. I’d love to learn more about the lore that makes up this magical world, and I really want to learn about why the Fallen were disgraced from Heaven. I look forward to future books that can dive deeper into the characters, their pasts and the change in the world.

3.5 out of 5

This novel was a very easy and enjoyable read. When it comes to the supernatural world, authors tend to stick to the normal vampires, werewolves and fairies. Aldridge goes down the road less traveled and explore the side of fallen angels.

The novel follows Liliana, a 17 year old foster child who goes to stay with a very well off family in an old historic town that has its fair share of secrets. As she settles in to her new home she begins meeting the residents of the town (who all seem to know her) and she starts to realize this town has a few secrets that she is actually at the center of. Lily juggles learning about her past, her present, and her future while also dealing with being a teenager.

How the story flows and progresses makes sense with an easy to follow timeline. The author does a great job explaining where we are and how we got there moving the plot along at a good pace. The plot was logical and believable. Well, as believable as a supernatural book can be. It's got a couple of twists and had me wondering throughout the novel who our main character can really trust.

While I usually prefer a more character driven storyline, there was still enough to keep me interested. I liked the characters and found myself caring about them, however I wasn't invested in them. I would have loved to hear more details of the town and a more in-depth look at our cast characters. This by no means takes away from the plot of novel, but I am a just a sucker for a detailed backstory and always want to know how a character came to the decision they did.

This novel was funny, suspenseful, intriguing and an all around good read. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and will be continuing with this story.

First book I was able to finish in weeks! This got me out of the reading slump I’ve been suffering. I was hooked from the beginning and I just couldn’t stop guessing what was going to happen next as the plot advanced. I still have so many questions and a theory that I hope will be answered in the sequel.

This book is very YA but that’s exactly the kind of book I need to get me out of these reading ruts. If you’re looking for something quick and easy to digest with angels/demons, hidden magic abilities, small town setting, and lots of secrets and mystery then I recommend giving this book a try. I feel like this was also a love letter to Hush, Hush and Twilight (without the vampires).

Dark Radiance gave me ALL the paranormal feels. The novel reminded me of the Vampire Diaries...but if Caroline was the main character instead of Elena.

The book follows Liliana to a new town shrouded in secrets everyone seems to know but her.

And if THAT didn't catch your attention, just wait until you met the mysterious, brooding boys in the town.

Dark Radiance's plot kept me on the edge of the seat, constantly making me wonder what would happen next. Yet, what really set this book apart from the rest was the intricate and beautiful world building and the unforgettable characters.

This book has such a fall aesthetic, you might want to cozy up in a sweater with scented candles and hot chocolate while you read...even if it's the middle of summer like when I read it.

And the characters...oh my gosh! They're also SO well done and will make you laugh, swoon, want to throw something in frustration, and everything inbetween.

This is not a book to miss and it sure isn't your normal paranormal romance story--it's way better!

Overall, I loved the story, but the book definitely isn't for everyone. I would recommend this book to new and young readers (middle school and high school). The writing style and plot was very easy to follow and comprehend.

There was some simple but cool imagery in play - light vs. dark. And yes, this is a book about angels and fallen angels. It gave me Hush Hush and Fallen vibes.

This is the first book in what will be a series. By the end of the book, I needed answers, so I can't wait for the second book. Also, this is the author's first book! I can't wait to see her grow as a writer.

This novel was everything I hoped it would be and more. I immediately fell in love with the world that Aldridge has crafted within these pages and the characters that bring it to life. I loved the history that was woven within the story and ALL THE TWISTS. I cannot wait to see more from this author in the future, but in the meantime, I will be reading this book again and again.

I 100% recommend grabbing a copy. You won't regret it!

I found out about Dark Radiance through Allison Aldridge's tiktok account and was intrigued in the story. I received the PDF file of the book in July 2020 as an ARC, but recently did a re-read of it, so I thought I'd share my opinion.

I rated Dark Radiance 3.5-4/5 stars because I really enjoyed the concept of the book. I enjoyed the writing style from page one and it was a fast paced novel that I was able to read in one sitting. It's that type of book that is easy to like and enjoy reading more of.

The book was full of romance, mystery, and darkness, each of which make up a good story. Although, I would have preferred for the 'mystery' aspect to be dragged on a bit longer and with a bit more suspense, rather than just getting the answers so easily, if that makes sense.

The characters are easy to like and understand and I think the friendship between them is beautiful, but I felt as though Lily and Asher's relationship was a bit fast and that they became a couple really quickly. I would have liked there to have been more of a build up to being a couple, but that is just my opinion. I'm used to reading about slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, but not every author writes about that, and that's okay. I don't mind a change every once in a while.

There were a couple grammar issues, but that is not the author's fault at all, and it didn't stop me from enjoying the book! I'm invested in the story and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the 'supernatural' and 'fallen angel' themes.

The book wasn't perfect, but it was definitely a damn good debut novel!

*3.5
I had a lot of trouble trying to decide between 3 and 4, so I figured this was the best.

I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I didn't really care about any of the characters, which is a big thing for me but everything else was pretty good. I really like the setting and the way it was described. The writing style was easy to read and I can see that once the author has more experience, it will grow to be something great. And I really liked how big the font in the book was because I could read it without my glasses and not get a headache.

I mentioned how I wasn't attached to any of the characters, I couldn't relate to them at all. They all seemed pristine and untouchable and were a bit cliché. I didn't like the main character, Lilianna. Some of her personality traits contradicted each other, such as how she is supposed to be wary and untrusting of new people, but moved in with her new friends after knowing them for a week. She was honestly a bit of a Mary Sue.

Another thing I didn't like much about the book is the number of questions I had when reading it. Maybe it was done purposely, but it doesn't seem like it. For example, are the angels immortal? Do they just age slowly? (Also what is with immortals staying in high school forever? Like that is one of the worst places to be, in my opinion.)

Overall, this was a fun read, but the content is just over average.

Let me start by saying that this is a MUST read! This is a perfect book to read if you are looking for something that has romance, mystery, amazing characters and a fantastic story line. This book is so beautifully written and something that sucks you in immediately. I felt like I was inside of an episode of supernatural or twilight, the details that Allison was able to bring to life on the pages was truly incredible.❤️ I wouldn’t be surprised if this book got picked up by a TV or movie producer, because it definitely deserves to be made into one!I am absolutely dying to read more from this series and I would 20/10 recommend this book to anyone, you will not be disappointed! 😍🥰

Has potential

This story is interesting and has the potential to be great, but the writing is juvenile and confusing. So much could have been explained better or could have been more fleshed out than it was. The relationship development between characters is non existent and there is very little building up of foundation as a whole. Its disappointing because it could have really been good.

|| Sneak Peek ||

“You need to let me go now, Finley.” My voice hardened, sending shockwaves of emotion through the silent air. I glared into his eyes. It took all the courage I could muster not to shake against his predatory grin.

“I don’t thi—” His words were cut off by the deafening crack of a twig behind me, distracting him from the sentence.

“She said let go.” A deep voice spoke out. Looking over my shoulder, I could see Asher standing inches from me, arms crossed against his broad chest. Aspyn stood just outside the tree line’s shadows, looking as if she didn’t want to get too close to Finley if it wasn’t absolutely necessary.

“You have no business here, Fin,” a new voice broke from behind Finley. Through the darkness, I could only make out the silhouette of a tall girl.

Finley’s laugh was low, allowing only Asher and me to hear it. “Oh, look who decided to show up. Another one of the dreaded Manson triplets. So sorry, you just missed your sister, but since you are here, I would like to inform all of you devils that this abomination is my business. The council has made her my business.”

I watched him closely through my eyelashes, not wanting to make direct eye contact with him as I went to speak. I could feel the angry heat of a certain green-eyed boy radiating off his body brush up against my chilled back. Asher’s presence instantly washed a sense of calmness over me. It was a strange feeling—I barely knew the boy and yet he was the one person I had subconsciously searched for as Finley tormented me. Asher was quicker than me. Speaking through clenched teeth, he took one menacing step closer to us. “I’m not going to ask you again. Take your hands off of her, Finley.”

I froze in place, not comprehending what I was staring back at. Asher’s normally vibrant green eyes were pitch-black. The color flooded together like ink dripping off a feathered pen. I was sure it was just a trick of the night light around us as the emotionless orbs stared back towards Finley, challenging the redhead.

“You know you cant save something that had no business being created in the first place, Asher. The world has its ways of flushing out the toxic beings,” Finley hissed at him, quickly throwing me back towards the black-eyed boy. Asher caught me between his strong arms, and automatically my fingers grasped the dark T-shirt he wore. I held onto him firmly, not wanting to be ripped back into Finley’s grip once again. My arm began to throb where his fingers had once dug. I glanced back at Finley, the confusion from his words finally appearing in my mind. He only smirked towards me, softly speaking. “Until next time, Liliana Caldwell.”

Okay, I’m gonna do my best to try and not jump around. There may be spoilers, so be aware.

Okay Miss Lily, she’s cute. But Asher?? My Morley grey fallen angel?? 👀👀 Hello new book boyfriend. As soon as we see him I knew he was gonna be the boyfriend, and I’m not even mad. I really enjoyed all the characters. Gabe and Nate had me going back and forth though. For a bit I was stuck. Do I like them? Something’s up? Honestly right now, there’s a lot to unpack and I adore Gabe but Nate? 🥴. The whole vibe of the book gives me season one vampire diaries and a little of Hush Hush. The whole vibe of the book was good, but it was a little chaotic and I’ll explain.

I gave this book a 4/5 because I felt like it was kind of all over the place in certain parts. Now, I am no author, but I do see this story going somewhere. I really like the premise of it, the characters, and the vibe we have going. The ending leaves you on a cliff hanger sooooo, holy shit the ending?? Let’s just talk about that right now, because the last few chapters threw me for a loop. I was getting very much SJM vibes with that wild ending. All I gotta say is Asher BETTER BE OKAY. When Finley picks up Lily at the end and all yeah he’ll meet us, something’s not right. I swear if Asher sacrificed himself I’m gonna 🥲. I really can’t wait for book two.

**One-Star Review: Disappointing Read**

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but unfortunately, it fell flat in several key areas. First and foremost, the grammar issues throughout were distracting and made the text difficult to follow. The lack of cohesive storytelling added to this, as the plot seemed to jump around without any clear direction. I struggled to get immersed in the story, partly because the pacing was painfully slow. The plot seemed to drag on, only to suddenly shift in ways that made no sense, leaving me more confused than engaged. Overall, this book was a frustrating read and not something I can recommend.

I throughly enjoyed this book, I read it in about three days and could not put it down. The story is compelling and the mystery surrounding Lily and her friends is enough to want to keep reading. I give it only 4/5 stars due to some plot holes (I’m hoping that will be cleared up quickly) and a few things that didn’t quite make sense. Lily speaks of a dream in the book that I didn’t remember reading about and the ending while AMAZING, confused me a little as well. Overall I enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to friends and family!

The book is well written and grabs you right at the start! The female character, Lily, is credible and intelligent wich I really like, the author wrote her brilliantly. The author also has a nice way to incorporate the fantasy world and she got me good with some character’s twist: I wasn’t trusting one character and then, boom! It’s not what I thought at all! The proximity between the MC and the male character is lovely and you’ll want more. I read it in one sitting and the rythm of reader is efficiant and flows nicely. I recommand!

I read this book in 3 setting. The plot grabs your attention quickly. I felt like I was getting angry for Lilly like she was my best friend not just a character. The book isn’t super long so it is a relatively quick read. I had no struggles with finishing this at any point.
