Clint Wolf #24

But Not Foregathered

On a Monday afternoon in July, three Mechant Loup boys leave baseball practice on their bicycles…and vanish.

The plan had been for Cory, Ruben, and Allen to camp in the woods east of town after baseball practice, but when they don’t return home the next morning, their parents call the police and report them missing. The worst part? A monster hurricane is rumbling toward the coast of Louisiana, and if the boys are caught out in the swamps during such a storm, they’ll surely perish.

In a desperate race against time, Clint Wolf and Amy Cooke, along with the rest of the police department, begin a multi-pronged search for the boys. A kidnapping pulls Clint and Amy away from the search, but when good and evil come together in an old camp house during the height of the storm, they seem on the cusp of getting some answers. However, will they survive the killer in front of them and the storm raging above them in order to do anything with that information?

The last time a hurricane hit Mechant Loup, a murderer tried to stage the scene to look like the storm killed the victim. This time, the problem is nothing so nefarious but every bit as dire. Three teenaged boys are missing.

Or is it foul play after all?

This one is keeps a reader guessing. Did the boys have an accident? Run away? Fall prey to one or more people with ulterior motives? Every time the detectives think they’ve figured it out, they have to rethink their theory. And they’re running out of time.

This is another book where the town is as much a character as the people and the weather is as dangerous as any villain. I couldn’t put this one down.

Superb as ever

It is really nice to read a series of novels where the storyline and characters are as fresh after 24 books as they were at the beginning. This is a superb series that should be read from book 1 onwards as the way the characters have developed during the series names them feel real.

Gripping Story

Another great adventure for Clint, Susan and the rest of the team.

With a huge hurricane approaching, 3 boys are reported missing after failing to return from a camping trip. When its found the camp site hasn't been used in weeks and they boy's bikes are found hidden in long grass everyone is at a loss to know where to even begin looking. Knowing they will never survive the storm alone, its a race against time to find them and get them home safely, but where do they begin looking. Knowing that his colleagues would risk their own lives to brave the hurricane in an effort to save these children Clint and Amy desperately search for clues to where to start looking. When they receive word that a body, seemingly attacked by alligators, has been found in the swamps just as the storm hits the team are separated and forced to hunker down where they are to ride out the storm. What follows in the aftermath is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

Great read.

Better and Better

Each book gets better and better. I love Clint, Susan, little Gracie is adorable. I love the dogs too. They are every much a part of the family. The Wolf’s police colleagues are their extended family and I love their interactions.

The mystery and storyline was very intense and heartfelt. I never saw the villain until they were revealed.

Very good. I can’t wait for the next one.

This BJ Bourg fan is very much in the minority of reviewers

I usually download and then read right through the newest Clint Wolf books. This time it took me several days to make it to the end, and I mulled over it for about a week. I liked the book but didn’t love it, so I couldn’t decide on three or four stars.

Truth is, I’m leery when crime fiction writers merge murders with natural disasters—after having lived through several. Hurricanes are the worst, because I still have some unresolved issues after Hurricane Isabel back in 2003. I have read several nonfiction works about natural disasters, so I decided to chance reading this book, mostly because I really like BJ Bourg’s books.

As in most books about natural disasters—earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes—there’s usually a tangle that ensues during emergency hurricane prep. First responders must herd the population to safety; often have encounters with ignorant civilians; and when the first responders begin bunkering down, there are civilians (who refused to evacuate) calling for help. I thought the hurricane storyline overwhelmed the mystery at times, but again, this is probably my perception. I was struck by the sheer number of deaths in this book—all or most of which are murders.

What kept me reading were the law enforcement characters, their courage, and their strong camaraderie. I will certainly read BJ Bourg’s next book, which I hope won’t include another natural disaster.

An Outstanding Book !!!!!

You would think that after reading 23 of the Clint Wolf Series, that I would be bored, unexcited, impatient and looking forward to 'being done' with them as I began reading the 24th one !!! NOPE, this was one of the "best yet" !!
I grew up in Iowa and have survived 2 'direct hit' tornadoes (the 2nd one took all of our farm outbuildings except the house, we were in the basement!!!) and one derecheo (that's a 'straight line wind in excess of 80 mph) so I could relate to the Hurricane Ursula !!!
This book covered all the bases! From tragedy to horror to bravery to deception to justice...... you covered all of that .......and 'then some' !!
Thank You for this book !!! You "made my day"!!!

As with all his books in this thrilling series it did not disappoint! They grab me from the first chapter till the last! Clint and Susan’s little town faces yet another Hurricane. Only this time 3 boys are missing and must be found before it hits! As always the whole PD risk there lives to save these boys as well as a few towns people. And it all leads up to to an exciting twisted surprise ending! And Susan can’t wait! She peaks at the ultrasound pics and finds out the sex of the baby! But I’ll never tell! Love love love these books!

A gripping plot of a Hurricane that is coming to the area, and three teen boys have been reported missing. They loved the swamps and camping out, where they were to be they weren’t.
The story brings you thru the nightmare of an approaching storm, along with the dangers that were in the swamps. Tempers that are out of control as was murder.
Time to get to safety was decreasing fast and not wanting to stop, unable to find the boys. Lives are changed along with new beginning
Could do without the cuss words from Amy.
Readers will enjoy another winning story

But not Foregathered by BJ Bourg

Excellent storyline and full of suspense as with his 23 thrillers I have read rugs far. Three teenagers are reported missing in the wake of a Category 5 Hurricane (Ursula). Clint and his team weather various challenges and excruciating difficulties to somehow find and save the children. The ending is totally unexpected and surprising. Can’t wait to read #25 in this series.

This one is a doozy! Full of stupid kids, stupider adults, an impending hurricane with tornados and our crew trying to do all they could to look after the town and find the boys. It was crazy how it all went down, from the adults of the missing kids, to the adults who did bad things and seemingly had no remorse. Heck...even some of the things Clint and his crew did in the search was stupid crazy. I do like the choice that Clint gave the last boy and the decision he made.

Bourg and this series is one of my all time favorites. It was as usual compelling but too many of the characters died. I didn’t think all of these deaths added to the story line. I would have hoped Bourg was more discerning.

I really like these novels.

The characters are believable and likeable t the bad guys caught bit not without tragedy. A major Hurricane and three missing boys keeps us in suspense. The books do not contain gratuitous profanity. that's a refreshing. Change

As always a great fun read!

I would give this five (5) stars, but the editing needs work.

I would certainly recommend to family, friends and acquaintances and always do. A super "who done it" with lots of twists and action. Well worth the read.

But not foregathered

Different from most other mysteries in that one didn't realize it was a murder until pretty far into the case and the storm created a different bent to the investigation and the solution. A very fast moving tale with all the old characters and a few new.

Another thriller

A hurricane is headed at Mechant Loup, and a lady called the police station about 3 missing teanage boys. Clint and Amy responded, and they discovered the boys did not go to their usual camps. Many twists and turns with inclement weather. Great reading

Wow…another really good story. Straight thru read. The part about the approaching hurricane was so real I felt that if I looked out my windows, I would see a storm forming. I dread reaching the end of this series, to find another author to read that is a similar caliber.
