Galaxy's Edge Season 2 continues as Wraith discovers crucial intel about the threat that past The Gap, beyond Galaxy's Edge. Meanwhile, Prisma undertakes and arduous journey and the legionnaires of Zombie Squad search for Masters.
This was exactly the installment that the last one should have been. Feeds the plot that you were starved of before and refocuses on the already vast main cast.
Being one of the rarer fans of Savages and Legionnaires, we finally get a glimpse of reality for one of the prominent antagonists and that serves as a cherry on multiple threads converging satisfyingly to progress the arc forward.
After the last book I was grumpily debating walking on this series, but this one told me to “Do another, babe.”
Viss notiekošais #14-16 Galaxy’s Edge grāmatu ietvaros maz pamazām velk uz vienu lielu kulmināciju otrās sezonas KTF divu grāmatu noslēgumam. Pa detaļai no vienas galaktikas malas stūra, pa kripatai informācijas no cita, bet bieži vien pagaidām vēl savstarpēji tieši nesaistītai, lasītājam tiek dota iespēja uzzināt visu vairāk vai mazāk nepieciešamo.
A three star book saved by the ending. Look, I love this series, I love the characters and universe. That being said, I feel the authors are complicating things for more than required and are losing steam. Are things kicking into high gear and comrades coming together? Yes. Is there plenty of action, drama and mystery? Yes. Do we get some more lore revealed? Yes. Tragedy? YES IN BOAT LOADS AND YOU WILL KNOW THE ONE THAT PISSES ME OFF THE MOST!
But...
The two worst characters are featured heavily here - namely, Prisma and Leenah. My word, I despise those two, I skim every portion that they are in. They are both insufferable. Prisma is unnecessary, she's an unnecessary person in this story that causes other characters to make stupid decisions. She's ALWAYS in trouble. Without fail. She's insanely thick headed, obtuse, and unlikeable. End her or send her far far away, please!! Leenah too, serves no real purpose, situations are concocted just to keep her involved. She's utterly useless otherwise. She doesn't fit in at all. This whole love nonsense sticks out like a sore thumb in this series. LOVE ISN'T REQUIRED HERE! NOBODY REALLY CARES! Keel at one point even has to watch his words in order to "not hurt her". WTF? That was a proper military decision to be made / spoken yet he didn't want to voice it.
Seriously, Mr Cole & Anspach, move the stories along and get rid of those two. They make reading these extremely difficult. Useless characters.
To say this book is confusing is putting it mildly in my opinion, of course! This whole series is confusing. Maybe I'm not getting something, but dang I'm having trouble understanding what some of this book is about. And yes, I did finish read it all the way to the end.
Captain Ford or Aeson Keel or Wraith or Sergeant Fast (see, right there, one guy goes by four different names!) has finally got his crew back and his ship the Indelible VI. The Indelible VI was thought destroyed but, with the money provided by Nilo, the billionaire, it was fixed up and made better than before. Still, while the Indelible VI was getting fixed, Captain Ford was flying around in a modified version of another starship called the Obsidian Crow. It and several slightly different versions of this same ship were found on the Battle Phoenix, a Savage carrier vessel that formerly belonged to Tyrus Rechs. Now they everyone was capable of getting together, they all meet in the hanger of the Battle Phoenix.
Nilo informed the group that he wanted to find the Savage vessel that contained a strand (which is never explained what that is). Captain Ford stated that his mission right now was to find Prisma Maydoon and he didn't care to be doing anything else. At this meeting was also Sergeant Donal Makaffie who had escaped/been released from a strange Savage vessel that conducted semi-real training scenarios in which people could get killed. He had been allowed to leave this strange ship if he agreed to leave Wild Man behind, which he did, and if he found and brought Captain Ford (a.k.a. Sergeant Fast) back to the Savage ship. For his part, he knew where Prisma and her mother had gone, but he wouldn't provide Captain Ford that information unless he agreed to help get Wild Man off the Savage vessel.
So, they all agreed to go find this Savage vessel, get Wild Man back and secure the strand. That wasn't going to be as easy as it sounds because Makaffie knew that they would have to fight their way through all the simulations the vessel would throw at them and if they survived, they may or may not be released. So, Captain Ford flew to the Savage vessel in the Obsidian Crow, while his friends took the Indelible VI and then Nilo also flew in his private yacht, will all initially landing in the hanger bay of the Savage vessel. Here they start having to fight their way through the ship only to find out that another ship has arrived appearing to be from the Nether Ops fleet and that ship was bent on destroying all the Savage vessels to include the Battle Phoenix. Here we get to read about some fighting between Captain Ford's team and between the starships floating around the Savage vessel's space.
While this is going on, Prisma Maydoon and her mother, Renia, are off on some planet where Prisma is supposed to undergo some kind of training. Her mother is her trainer, but it's never clearly explained as to what exactly Prisma is to learn. Renia is one weird lady. I'm not convinced that she's even human because she has some kind of mystical powers that she apparently wants to develop in Prisma. Prisma on the other had, hasn't got a clue about anything.
Meanwhile, there is an effort forming to go rescue Sergeant Masters. Remember, he's the guy that got separated from his Kill Team on Kima. He's been roaming the country side trying to avoid MCR scouts or Zhee patrols. Unfortunately, his luck ran out and he was captured. He's now being tortured in the manner of the Zhee which is death by a thousand cuts! But, Task Unit Zombie led by Sergeant Major MakRaven has just about found his location and is attempting to extract him from his predicament. Not everyone survives this action.
Then the strangest part of the book takes off about mid-way through when we're thrown into an amusement arcade and a video tournament played by Crometheus and his team Eternal. What his part of the story has to do with anything is beyond me! This is where I get totally lost and having serious thoughts about not continuing with this series. I just don't understand why this is in this book.
Ok, I have to admit that I have already read book 17, "KTF - Part 1". I read these books out of order for some reason. So, if you want to go beyond this one, then KTF-Part 1 is your next book. I might read KTF-Part 2, but I'm just not sure right now.
The story is back to the main characters, Keel and his team, and - not in the least - his robot sidekicks. I like this core story, centered around these characters, the best. (The only one missing is Tyrus Rechs but that can't be helped of course.) It's still a grand adventure, a great saga, with heroes, princesses, trusted friends, enemies old and new, agendas, mysteries and quests and of course Death, Destroyer of Worlds, of whom I am a big fan, and may he get many more chapters to shine in.
The battle simulations Keel and others to go through on board the Savage hulk are quite ingenious ways for the authors to let us, the readers who have a bigger picture than the characters, know details of what happened in certain other times and locations to other characters we know & love - but without them knowing it; just us, the readers. A great writing invention imho!
One more plus for this core series within the greater saga, is that the narrator is the inimitable R.C. Bray. He makes this series (at least the core novels) so much more awesome, which is why I absolutely recommend listening to these novels in audio form.
Loved this novel, have already purchased the next two!
So many groups and characters in play, but it works.
We’re left with a few very big questions at the end but the other story lines where excellent and answered some much needed explanations. Earth is mentioned again and two characters from earth before the great exodus are also introduced.
Crometheus is seeing through the controls and Keel is finally in full control of the suit that will most likely save the galaxy. Some really hard losses in this book but those developments are setting us up for the end game.
Also very glad Masters was found and rescued, but the cost was maybe too high.
I believe one of the aspects of good writing is the philosophy and development of the characters. The authors do this so well, most of the time. I guess if enough emotion exists anyone can make a mistake, but not Ravi. Ravi's strength is calculating outcomes, percentages of success for an objective, and risks. I believe the character of Ravi was betrayed in the telling of the story. I guess it was needed for some key plot point.
Some satisfying endings. Some heart-breaking deaths. I still want to see what the authors decide to tell. I know most fans love the sequencing. I feel the logic of the plot has a big gap. Many sagas do make leaps. This one seemed so incongruent to me.

Last Contact was the perfect follow-up that Remains lacked. It brings back the characters we’ve been missing and finally gives us the plot developments we were waiting for. A major highlight is the insight into one of the key antagonists, which adds new layers to the conflict. The story picks up steam and sets the stage for what's to come, bringing everything together in a way that feels much more satisfying. After this one I am ready to "Do another, babe."
Definitely an improvement over the last book - but I have to admit the reason I've stayed with this series is primarily R. C. Bray. There's some degree of investment in the story, but honestly I wish these authors were treating the series more like an actual book series and not an episodic tv show or comic book/graphic novel. Whatever. If I'm that disgruntled about it, I'll just stop reading. I still maintain that it's author's prerogative.
I listened to this on the recommendation of other reviewers saying the main story arc had finally returned since the last two were off track. That is only partially true it seems. There were maybe 3 hours of quality story that moved the series forward. There was also a whole 1-2 hours of some random storyline about a former rockstar. I almost stopped the book there.
It seems the good old Legion story will never return. Instead, we get episodic filler.
I find myself continuing to read the various novels of this series as they are a regular line of 4 star easy reads with a 5 star book placed at the right interval. This is the 5 star milestone I've been waiting for and a nice way to clean up the various plot threads, at this point, into a more managable string.
Honestly sometimes I get confused at all the characters now and then the author kills them off lol. But the whole universe is still cool and interesting with good action! And savages! The story about cronos is interesting and boring at the same time.
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.
It is pretty neat the way they give some answers while opening whole new cans of worms. Or just give some hints to see how closely you are paying attention.
Each and every book is filled with action, builds character depth and keeps your interest. There is so much to read and follow. I recommend this series very highly. KTF!
All the season two books have been good reads, but I feel they lack some of the heart and soul that you get from season 1. I'd still recommend them to anyone who has read the first season, but with only two books remaining, I just feel the second season isn't as good.
Better than the last book, no cliffhanger ending. Nick Cole keeps up his trend of killing of characters just when we start to like them. I should start calling him George R.R. Cole. Good fun SciFi.
Another superb epic in continuing saga which is Galaxy's Edge. The story lines are all coming together and this one rewards multiple readings. I cannot wait for the next one🔥
I apologize to the authors for my impatience through Convergence and Remains. Now I understand why those detours were necessary. Galaxy's Edge has always possessed a well-thought-out arch. High praises to Jason and Nick, for this, is arguably the best military sci-fi on the planet and, I dare say, the Galaxy. And as always, thank you R.C. Bray for your consistency in excellent delivery. K.T.F
