Mini-review:

(1) The heroine is a glorified sex doll, and the author never bothers to mention her upbringing and tries to explain her behaviors and reasoning. Plus, she forced a lot of suggestive and sexually-charged situations on the male lead, without asking whether he wanted them or not. That is GROSS with a capital G.

(2) The little girl who screamed at the male lead, calling him a 'freak' for liking hina dolls, should be slapped again, again and again into next week for being a judgmenal little bitch.

(3) The poor male lead should have talked to his guardian (the granddad) and a freaking psychiatrist about his childhood trauma, instead of being led on the nose by the heroine.

(4) I am SHOCKED that this time the characters actually talked about meaningful things in this volume.

(5) I am SHOCKED that the first sexual joke, cleavage shots and butt shots only show up as late as page 120.

(6) I acutally like the characters' conversation about cross-dressing, plus the artwork is lovely, I think this story can be more tolerable if the author just stopped using girls' half naked bodies and sex as brain-dead gimmicks all the damn time.

(7) Someone tried to argue with me that it's just part of the heroine's personality to be so unaware of sex. Are you kidding? You mean to tell me a 15-year-old girl addictively playing harem games and cosplaying as a SEX SLAVE can be unaware of what sex is? You mean to say the fictional characters in the harem games she plays merely sit around and drink afternoon tea together!?

Ok, this is one of my new favorite mangas. Not typically the style I read, but it's so adorable and wholesome.
Highlights:
- Wakana and Marin meet a fellow cosplayer at an event, Amane, who reveals to them that she is a crossplayer and is really a guy. His backstory is long, but they are very open and understanding people.
- After photo shoots (some involving other people in public) the three of them end up shopping, where Amane teaches them about fake boobs, premade costumes, and the wide world of makeup.
- ON TO THE NEXT COSPLAY! Marin wants to do a specific bunny girl. As Wakana makes them, they again have another cute issue involving Wakana's overwhelming modesty. (They will need to get over that if they begin to date!)
- Next up is Halloween and Marin is able to convince Wakana to cosplay as well. He picks a bunny suit to go along with her bunny outfit. While they are all hanging out at karaoke, another girl, very loudly asks if Wakana and Marin are going out. (Another cliffhanger!)

Hopefully I won't have to wait long for the next Volume. Seems like the relationship is imminent.

Recommend. (Hopefully I will watch the anime soon...)

While Wakana and Kitagawa are at a cosplay event showing off her latest costume, they surprisingly make friends with a male cosplayer who has a real passion for it and learn how he started it. The duo’s next outfit is an anime bunny girl and it gets pretty risqué for him, and he unexpectedly joins in the cosplay too. A (100%/Outstanding)

Out at a cosplay event, Gojo and Marin meet a fellow practitioner who ends up being more of a drag than expected. Costume troubles loom large, as do convenient excuses, plus Gojo finally grows a pair in exactly the way you’re not thinking.

This series is, indeed, one of the most manga manga to ever manga. It manages to be one of the sweetest things going, while simultaneously being bawdy as hell a split-second later (or, indeed, at the same time).

But that description practically does it a disservice, as this story shows that you can be full of info (and service) and still be entertaining, something more than a few ‘info-dump’ stories can’t seem to manage, and it’s incredibly kind to boot.

The first story is the perfect example, as an adorable idol cosplay turns out to be an adorable idol crossplay and we delve into the realm of disguising your gender and the nature of how such things come about.

Poor Subaru, the crossplayer/character in question, looks like a deer in the headlights after Gojo point blank asks him what the deal is, but that turns out to be a mere gateway for Gojo to geek out over make-up and Marin to gush (Subaru’s visible relief is a nice touch).

We get his backstory as well, which is surprisingly normal and very matter-of-fact, minus one specific incident that at least winds up being a happy ending and a lesson learned in being true to yourself. It’s a great start to a great volume (and features Gojo hilariously getting his chest groped by Marin).

The main cosplay this time is a the time-honoured bunny costume, which is basically an excuse to put Marin in a bunny costume, but also for her to wax poetic about how great and universally popular they are because anime characters always end up in them. There’s definitely some hilarious self-awareness there.

And Gojo’s hubris gets the best of him and he gets some advice (after amusingly correcting that the cosplay isn’t for him) about not making assumptions that will in no way come up again this volume.

The Gojo and Marin content is as strong as usual, with him being freaked out over all the skin and her being freaked out over the possibility of dating Gojo. These two things collide in a costuming disaster that threatens to scar Gojo for life, although Marin comes up with a brilliant plan that she thinks is wonderful but has exactly zero chance of derailing a teenage boy’s hormones.

It’s almost ridiculously tame for this volume to end at a Halloween party, though the initial promise of a Gojo and Marin team cosplay is derailed by, unsurprisingly, Gojo’s awkwardness. In this moment, we realize that Gojo has come a long way with Marin, but maybe not the world at large.

And that’s when somebody throws out the whole ‘you’re a guy who does make-up?’ thing and the story starts to spiral out of control, although it turns out that Gojo might be the author of his own isolation when he comes to a realization about his past.

Ironically, this whole taking a thing to heart comes up again moments later when somebody finally asks the question about Gojo and Marin’s status as a couple and Gojo, admittedly on the spot, commits a cardinal manga sin that accidentally wounds Marin and really leaves things hanging until next time.

I mean, it’ll get worked out - Gojo and Marin are one of the most absolutely perfect couples I’ve seen in manga (even if they just stay friends, they’re that good together that that’s just fine). We get some great callbacks this time to the love hotel and previous costumes to boot.

There’s a lot to love here and this might be one of the best blends of horny and charming and funny I’ve ever read. This is a tale that makes pretty much all of its characters feel valid for liking what they like and that’s worthy of praise on its own.

5 stars - I hope it stays this good for its entire run, but this is a very special series that continues to be far more than just the tawdry and voyeuristic. It also has the pure heart to make it, for me, a true classic.

This volume was more interesting to me than the last one! Love it when they interact with other people…like the man at the fabric store and the other cosplayers at events. Also love the karaoke scene with Marin’s friends at the end!
Obviously I still don’t recommend this series … it is major cringe that it is about high schoolers but it is so perfect when the heartwarming moments overshadow the fanservice moments.

i LOVE that they brought up the side of the cosplay community that involves buying your costumes & accessories pre-made since it gets a lot of weird hate for not being “real” cosplay
i wanna learn more about amane, his character seems so interesting!!

- loving the character development and the addition of new side characters
- Marin and Wakana are adorable
- slice-of-life might be my new favorite genre
- I always say this but the art is absolutely GORGEOUS and I’m obsessed

Started the manga after finishing the anime. Honestly, this volume was quite good. It's a fun jumping on point.

Marine and Gojo meet a new cosplayer who does crossplays, and later, they adventure out. Liked the development of Gojo. To quote,

" ONCE YOU FORM ASSUMPTIONS, THEY INEVITABLY ACT AS BLINDERES. YOU STOP NOTICING THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE NOTICED BEFORE. "

Overall it was fun and the bunny girl cosplay was decent too i guess.

Once again, Wakana and Marin must consult a pro: adjusting the appearance of facial contours to fool the camera, prioritizing back-seams for fishnet tights, applying next-level make-up to modify tear pouches, equipping fake boobs. Readers are already well aware of the dynamic and multifaceted world of cosplay, so why not get into the gritty details? MY DRESS-UP DARLING v6 slows down the pacing and explores a few less trodden paths, exposing its two lead characters to facets of their hobby they may have otherwise overlooked.

Again treading through public spaces, Wakana and Marin cross paths with crossplay enthusiast Amane Himeno, an empathetic (and exquisitely handsome) young man whose cosplay as a pop idol is mind-glowingly good. MY DRESS-UP DARLING v6, being the mindful manga it is, wields this opportunity to educate its characters and readers of the murkier challenges and travails of crossdressing and of cosplay more broadly. What fragments of emotional vulnerability cosplayers grant others are prone to crumbling when others refuse to be as open and honest as they claim to be. Amane is kind, but hesitant; he's been wounded before. And Wakana and Marin, rightfully, take the time to learn the nuances of cosplaying with heart.

Gender roles are a maddening mudslide of cultural idiosyncrasy. Leave it to a comic book to articulate the chronic perils affecting the arthritic heart of those who would dare to think or act contrary to expectations.

Elsewhere, Marin's cosplay as a bunny-costume-wearing assassin character goes sideways when Wakana struggles with a comically simple facet of costume creation: cording and boning for stiffness. Also elsewhere, Sugaya-san, Marin's cheerful friend with the multicolored twin-tails, notices Wakana and Marin are spending an awful lot of time together. Can anyone truly blame Marin for thinking a random text from Wakana means he's finally asking her out on a date? (Yes, actually.) It's another, albeit different example of the core characters overlooking the obvious. MY DRESS-UP DARLING v6 is a slower-paced but more poignantly written volume, and the author's patience shows.

Konnichiwa a todas, lectoras🌸

This series fails to disappoint, and this was another strong volume. While there wasn't as much drama/hijinks in this volume, there was definitely a whole lot of characters development on Gojo's part. Marin and Gojo make a new cosplaying friend in a pretty guy named Amane who loves to get in drag as female anime characters. Also, for the first time, Gojo struggles with creating Marin's requested costume, only to get some advice from a professional, which helps him solve the issue. In both situations he is faced with someone who experienced a similar situation of a person they liked rejecting them because of what they like, but unlike how Gojo reacted, Amane dumps the girl he is seeing, because doing drag is his hobby and he loves it, and if the girl he was seeing couldn't see that then she wasn't worth it.

With the costume issue, it was because Gojo has got used to making all of Marin's costumes, so he has become over confident, and instead of doing all of the research he usually does before hand, he assumes he has things in the bag, which turns out to not be the case. Both of these moments lead up to Marin inviting him out for Halloween to hang out with all of her other friends. Keep in mind, Gojo's only friend at school is still Marin. Aside from the cosplay friends he has made, he is still incredibly awkward around people his own age who do not have similar interests as Marin and himself, and he just doesn't know how to act around them. He immediately assumes they will judge him for what he likes, but when Marin's friends do the exact opposite, he realizes he was projecting his fears onto others and making assumptions about them, leaving him isolated. It's a surprisingly deep realization for a romcom series, and just when he is figuring this out, Marin's best friend blurts out, in spectacular fashion, whether or not Marin and him are dating, and that is where the volume ends.

All in all, this was a solid volume, with a pretty deep message, and I am looking forward to seeing Marin and Gojo's reaction to the 'are you dating' issue.

This one had some very good concepts in it, we of course get the Gojo and Marin cosplay which is always a highlight of this series but my favorite part was the introduction of a new charcter.

Himeno, Amane is having trouble with her skirt pin, so they both help her out through that, they get talking and have a lot in common but then he reveals he's a dude doing drag cosplay and they're both shocked because he's so cute. Most of this volume is going into his life story and it's riveting, he was dressed up by his big sister when he was young and something just clicked. From there he has been doing it regularly and as he lives life as a guy, a girl he was dating found out about it and was disgusting by it. It's a real life take and I love when manga tackles these types of issues. He mentions now that he's happy with the life he's chosen, it's just so nice to have these moments. For the most part he's in cosplay but at the end we get a hint of what he looks like, I did like the fact that he's giving Marin tips on how to dress in diffrent ways because so far she's done woman and there will probably be instances where she's dressing as a guy or as a guy dressing as a girl so those tips will really come in handy. Gojo seems to have a real connection to him to so it's not soly focused on Marin he interacts with them equally which is so freshing.

The Halloween party at the end was a nice way to cap it off, I like that Gojo is interacting with all her friends. She even does a sexy bunny cosplay and he's dressed up in this goofy bunny outfit, it's great. Perfectly ended with one of her friends asking the improtant question,

Marin and Wakana meet a cosplayer named Amane at an event, and they learn a lot from them. Amane is a great cosplayer and has a lot of fantastic tips for the pair.

Marin decides that she wants her next costume to be a bunny girl from a popular game series, and Wakana starts to become interested in cosplay modeling. In the meantime, Wakana is struggling to make the bunny costume corset, and he get's some great advice from Usami-san at the fabric shop that helps him finish it. Also, I have to mention the gag about Usami thinking that Wakana is making these costumes for himself and how funny that is. In this volume he finally meets Marin and everything becomes clear for him.

The bunny girl cosplay turns out great, and Wakana and Marin rent a studio to take her pictures in. Then Marin repurposes the outfit for Halloween, and Wakana goes out with her to karaoke for the first time with her group of friends in a full bunny costume himself. Like, it's a mascot costume that completely covers his entire body. Even though he's super nervous and shy, he hits it off with Marin's friends, and they start to realize how cool it is that Wakana has the skills to help Marin pull off so many amazing cosplay looks. I love this part of the story because at the beginning of the series Wakana had no friends and never went out to have fun, and now Marin's friends are realizing just how kind and selfless he is, and he's being drawn into their group. It's so sweet to see Wakana come out of his shell.

One of my favorite volumes of this story! Gojo's determination is interesting as he is interested in improving his knowledge in the cosplay world in any way. One of the scenes I liked most was the one with Himeno and the whole cross dressing theme. Marin also captured my heart. I like his irony, his resourcefulness and his stupidity (in a good way obviously) too much. I like how he manages to play down situations or how he can cry like that out of the blue. I really relate to his character! Then she is completely in love with Gojo and is aware of this but embarrassment prevents her from telling him directly (but I'm sure the right time will come soon).

I really liked the new character that they introduced in this volume, so that was a plus for me. But 1. my scoring is still low because of the rampant fanservice that honestly takes away from how great the characters are and 2. I just didn't believe the conflict in this volume. Like at all. You're telling me Gojo has never thought to add wiring to a costume...? Or that he wouldn't just look it up on his phone? I didn't buy the fact that he'd make that mistake in the first place, or that he'd be so down on himself about it.

However, I'm giving this volume an extra star because of the scene where the old man who works at the sewing shop says that people used to come and make bunny costumes for cosplay all the time because of "an anime where a girl dresses up as a bunny girl for her school festival". That made me smile because of the reference it's making to Haruhi Suzumiya. I think I actually like My Dress Up Darling because of the way it reminds me of Haruhi Suzumiya in many ways, so that direct reference warmed my heart a bit.
