Melinda Barron loves to explore Egyptian tombs and temples, discover Mayan ruins, play in castles towers, and explore new cities and countries. She generally does it all from the comfort of her home by opening a book.
Melinda loves to lose herself between the pages of a book. The only thing she loves more is creating stories from the wonderful heroes and heroines that haunt her dreams and crowd her head. She believes love is for everyone, not just those who are a size 2. Her books are full of magic, suspense and love, in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
Mel currently lives in the Texas Panhandle, with two cats, and a file stuffed with new ideas to keep her typing fingers busy, and your heart engaged.
This was enjoyable, and while I didn't love it, I didn't hate it either. I liked how Lake pursued Lucy, and maybe this is me never living a BDSM lifestyle, but some of the punishments seemed cruel, lol. Not cruel as in disfiguring or painful, but she doesn't get to come but she sucks him off? That's no fun! Or he wacks off while she listens? That just seems like such a waste, lol. I didn't quite get the weights on the slave ring (which I guess I'm not really sure what that is) and nipple rings. Is that pleasurable? Or maybe just more sensation?
Beyond that, as another reviewer pointed out, we never really got to know Lake. If he was so freaking hot and such a great Dom, how come we never heard about his past subs? Or why he's currently single? We know why Lucy was... her bastard husband was a selfish wannabe Dom. So we know why Lucy was hesitant to let someone else in. But why was Lake instantly drawn to her? And the declaration of love seemed way too fast. Sure, you can have very strong feelings for someone upon first meeting them, but love? Within a couple of weeks? I'm not even sure an entire week passed in the book. It was nice to see that Lake really cared about her beyond the sex. I think I might have had a problem with him feeding me ALL the time. Maybe I wouldn't make a good sub, lol. But the suspense was an interesting diversion from the sex, which was okay.
I hear the series is good and gets better from book one, so I'll probably try #2 at some point.
Sweet Vibrations is book #1 in the Tygers series and although it was published way back in 2007 it’s been sitting in my TBR pile for ages so I decided to give it a go.
First impressions what a little kinkfest lol.
The good bits...
• There’s a lot of kink in this book.
• I love Lucy she’s a badass sub who rides a Harley.
• Lake is just the right amount Dom.
The Bad bits...
• I didn’t really take this book very seriously I found it a bit silly.
• The whole key that leads to a treasure hunt thing was a bit daft.
This is only a short book so the author has crammed a lot of story into not many words; this is the reason that I’m not a fan of novellas. We never really get a chance to engage with the characters or their relationship because everything is compressed.
Lucy & Lake go from being strangers to living together and engaged in about two weeks which is just ridiculous!!!
I didn’t really feel any connection between Lucy & Lake, the kink was all very kinky but there was no real spark.
I liked Eric and I understand that the second book in the series is about him so I think I might be tempted to give that a read.
The weird story about Lucy’s uncle finding out his boss is running drugs came out of left field for me, I thought the key idea was cute, but when her uncle’s friend started killing everyone it got a bit daft for me.
This book was just ok for me, I wasn’t squirming in my seat but I wasn’t bored to death either, I think the post Fifty Shades of Grey kink influx has left me a bit spoilt when it comes to this genre.
Lucy Travers is selling a bike she inherited from her uncle. After being dumped by her ex-husband she now has to pay off his debt and selling the bike will do that. Lake Ross is interested in the bike and Lucy . He convinces her to go on a date with him to Tygers which is a BDSM club. Lucy has to learn to trust Lake, which is not easy for her. I found Lake to be a little harsh. Lucy is a size 16 and has a bad body image of herself. She does not feel comfortable being naked around people. Instead of adressing this issue with Lucy he uses emotional blackmail to make her comply. He tells her that what they do is consensual but at the same time he threatens to walk away from her if she uses her safe word. This really ticked me off. The way Lake used Lucy's body piercings seemed dangerous and painful. The sex between these two was hot and of course there was a HEA. The suspense plot was a nice added touch.
This seems like an interesting start to a new series. I generally liked all of the male characters in this story, including those secondary characters that I assume will take center stage in subsequent books. Lucy, on the other hand, was a little bit annoying because it seemed as though she never really wanted to fully submit – a very disobedient sub. My one major complaint had to do with terminology. The use of the words “subbie” and “clitty” were worse than nails on a chalkboard for me. They not only pulled me out of the story every time, but literally grated on my nerves. I hope it ends with this story and doesn’t carry forward, because I’d like to check out the rest of the series.
2.5 stars...I was disappointed with this book. There was so much potential, both for a good BDSM story and for a good suspense story, but neither was developed enough. The relationship was rushed and the use of the words "subbie" and "clitty" drove me crazy and pulled me out of the story. The mystery/suspense could have been great, but was quickly wrapped up with very little suspense. I am interested in the 2 other male characters who were introduced in this book, but I just don't think that I will be rushing out to get those books. Too bad.
It starts quite nicely, but everything is too rushed : the story between the two main characters, the plot, the secondary characters and even the sex scenes. Loose ends everywhere. I ended up feeling like "nice story but could have been so much better".
Not sure yet whether I'll read the rest of the series.
What a great book!!! This was the first book by this author that I had read. It was a great combination of mystery and romance. I couldn't put it down. I am really excited to read the next book and the rest of the series.
*Blush* Wasn't what I thought it was, but wow! I loved it anyways - Going to put this as a 3rd best BDSM series (or start of a series) I've read yet -
I loved how they threw in the little mystery and street action as well as the BDSM scenes.
I liked that the whole Dom/sub thing was a way of life for Lake, not only at the Club. When he collared Lucy, it was going to be for real.
See Lucy was married to a looser. He took too much control over her submissive state and used her for his pleasure only. After running up tons of credit cards and treating her like trash, he left her.
A couple months later, Craig, her step Uncle had passed away, making Lucy feel alone and miserable. She loved Craig like a father, and he loved her like a daughter he never had. That's why he left EVERYTHING to her.
We start off taking a ride on Lucy's 2000 Indian motorcycle. She loves this motorcycle, because it was the one Craig gave her. but now that he has given her everything he owns, her insurance rate went up, and she has to sell a few things in order to afford it.
Her BFF Margaret had a friend who was interested in buying the motorcycle. So she invited Lucy to the small backyard party she was having, and was planning on introducing them. It felt more like a set up than a sale.
When she got a look at the 6 foot muscled Dr. Lake Ross, she knew without a doubt that was what her sly friend was doing. But Lucy just wasn't ready to trust another man with her heart, just yet. It was too soon.
When she walked out to the front yard for him to look at the bike and take it out for a spin, she was surprised when he told her to get on the back. "I don't ride Bitch very well" she says "Really? We'll have to work on that." He told her.
The next day, they met at the bank where he would transfer the money over to her, and then the DMV where she would sign over the title. He asked her out for dinner, she declined. So he gave her his number and told her to call her.
Lucy's friend Margaret had spoken to Lake and knew all about her ex and her past. He knew that gaining the trust of someone who had been hurt so much would take some time, but she didn't call him.
After 4 days, Lake met up with Lucy at her work, told her to meet him at the picnic area off the freeway when she got off work.. she was about to tell him, no, but he told her about an envelope he found taped under the seat of the motorcycle... and he left. Leaving Lucy no choice but to go out to meet him.
When she met him, he handed her the envelope. On the front of it, were a bunch of numbers that Lucy couldn't figure out what they meant. Inside, she found a key. That was all. But lucy had gone through all the papers and safety deposit box in his house, she had no idea what it was. So Lake told her he'd help her with it.
They talked, When Lake confessed that Margaret told him about her past with her ex. He told her that just because he dumped her, doesn't mean every man is going to dump on her.
"Yeah? Well George and I get along just fine, all all I have to do is supply him with batteries." she turned to walk away but stopped when he spoke again. "Tell me, when you've been playing with George the last few nights, have you been thinking about me?... "
As she walked back to him, he asked her to lie down on the table. She was reluctant at first, but after a few words of coaxing her, she finally did. She closed her eyes and he told her that in order to gain trust of his patient, he talks to them in a soothing way. To get to know them. Lake started asking her questions, “Tell me what you like Lucy. Tell me what makes you hot, what gets you off." "Don't you think you should buy me dinner, first?" "Tell me. Tell me how you'd like me to top you. Tell me how you'd like to submit to me..." I'm gonna kill her, I'm gonna kill her
"Margaret told you." "That you're a sub? Yes. Did Margaret tell you that, even though we work at the hospital together, we met at Tygers?"
Oh crap! Lake confessed that he's Topped Margaret a few times with her husband watching, but had a desire to Top Lucy in a much more intimate way. Telling her to meet him at Tygers in one of the private rooms tomorrow night, just as he rode off on his motorcycle. Leaving Lucy speechless.
The next night, she pulled in to Tygers, and sat in the car. She couldn't do it.. It had been over a year since she's been in the BDSM club, and she didn't know how to do this with lake. She wanted to, but she didn't know how. She told herself she would just go in and tell him she changed her mind...
HA! Yeah right - The first scene - I was really impressed with the knowledge of the BDSM in this book (not that I have a lot of experience myself, but I've read some pretty lame books before) But the Author did a really good job at explaining emotions and feelings through out the scenes in this book. And they were just plain HOT! lol
Starting on the next book tonight - Can't wait to hear about Alex's story. He's such a great guy!!
This book was definitely a BDSM book, but it had a great believable splash of suspense. And on top of that, not all the male characters were military/cop/feds (I've noticed a major trend of any book with a hint of suspense - not to mention BDSM - only has military or cop heroes). In this one, the main hero is a doctor. Just was a nice change of pace - although his best friend, and major secondary character, is a cop...
Yes, this was an erotic BDSM story - and it also had some semi-extreme stuff, but it was also very emotional and went into the need for trust in a Dom/sub relationship. It was not just a sex-fest, with the characters just inexplicably falling in love. They do fall in love pretty fast, but intense situations + intense interactions + BDSM trust exercises + romance novel = love in a week, and I found it believable.
Lucy has been burned by her ex-husband/previous top, and does not trust in relationships or her own attractiveness. Lake is a very popular and very picky Dom, and once he first sees Lucy he is very intrigued by her. He is willing to do whatever he can in order to get Lucy to learn how to trust again, and to believe more in herself. However, that doesn't mean he won't punish her when she is bad, or invite a friend to join in, and in fact uses those times to teach her that she can leave herself in his hands and he will know how far to take her. He was so careful with her, but not so much so that he let her forget who was in control.
Now, I mentioned that the book had some semi-extreme moments, and those things are so difficult to measure because one person's extreme is another person's everyday reading :) Here are some examples:
I had previously read the fourth book in the series, Sweet Awakenings, and just didn't like it and had originally decided not to read further in the series. I'm glad I changed my mind, because this really was a emotionally sweet, and not to mention hot!, book that had great characters and a surprisingly believable storyline! I can't wait to read Eric's story!
This is a really fun BDSM read. Not too heavy, not too intense, not too campy like the Club Shadowlands can tend to be from time to time...just right. This is a wonderful romantic story of a very sweet, caring Dom who has found his soulmate Submissive, recognizes it and wants to make her his in every way possible. Of course, the problem is that Lucy's ex-husband was a fake poser, wanna-be Dom who really made her have some serious trust issues. Dr. Lake Ross is the perfect Dom to heal her and take all her troubles away...just what the doctor ordered, so to speak. :) The sideplot involving her uncle's death is actually really interesting and good...and the author does a great job of keeping it real and not making it too "convenient" but still not allowing it to overshadow the main point of the book which is of course, the developing D/s relationship between Lake and Lucy. This is really a great book. Very fun to read, very sweet, and if you liked the Club Shadowlands series, you will like this a lot.
This is the first Tygers book I've read. I have to say, I like these books better than her Master series. This book contained moderate BDSM scenes which were tasty. Lake is an ideal dom. He's able to balance pleasure and punishment. I was actually kind of impressed with his punishment ideas. Lucy on the other hand is kind of a dumb unruly sub. She's starting to think of punishment as funishment. I don't like that about her so much. She tops from the bottom too much. I like that Lake catches her at this and punishes her for it.
The intrigue in this book was a nice added touch. It fit well with the story and I enjoyed meeting Eric and Diego. Hmmm. I can't wait to read stories about them. I especially want to learn about Diego. I recommend this book for those who are getting a bit more kinky than Ms. Sinclair but not as hardcore as Ms. Thomas or Ms. Joseph. I would say this is just roughly the same as Ms. van Yssel.
Lucy has lost everything: her Dom and husband has disappeared leaving her with huge debts and they divorced through their lawyers. Then 2 months later her uncle died in a bike accident and she inherited everything. She sells her uncle’s bike to Lake, a Dom, friend of Marcy, Lucy’s best friend. He founds an envelope taped under the seat of the bike. Together they will try to solve the mystery of the envelope and Lake is also decided to show Lucy how a real Dom is and to get her to trust again.
It was a fast read. I would have liked more depth to the characters, the story to be more developed. I felt like something was missing, like some parts of the book had been left aside, like Lucy’s husband… he disappeared and left her with huge debts, I kept waiting for him to come back to spice things up a little.
However it was a good story and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely read more about this series.
This was a good story, but could have been better. The whodunit storyline felt a bit tacked on, and the bad guys were pretty apparent. The reltionship between the Hero and Herione was excellent though - Lake is a good Dom who is drawn to Lucy when he fist meets her, but Lucy has major trust issues. It will take some work and a lot of pushing to break through the walls she has built up after everything she has experienced.
The BDSM and sex scenes were scorching hot! Wax play, bondage, M/f/M, flogging, orgasm denial, exhibitionism, masturbation, etc. This is a good start to BDSM series.
Sweet Vibrations was a sexy read. I loved the fact that Lucy is a size 16 and she was down to earth. She was a really likeable character. Lake and Eric were also likeable characters and even though they are both doms, they weren't overwhelming like some dom characters. The story moved very fast, the chemistry was instantaneous between Lucy and Lake, and the speed at which their relationships move was a little unbelievable. I guess this is why it's fiction. I will be reading other books from this series and hopefully Eric will get a little hellion for himself.
Erotic BDSM with a splash of suspense. I really like the characters, even though Lucy had a "I must rush into danger without help" moment. I hate those. Other than that Lake was totally likable and so was his buddy Chris. I'd be interested in reading his book.
Overall: If you're looking for a naughty snack with a real plot then this should do it.

This was an enjoyable, easy read. Unfortunately I didn't 'feel' the connection between Lucy and Lake. In fact I felt Lucy and Eric made a better couple:(
