The Way of the Essenes: Christ's Hidden Life Remembered

Rate this book

Two thousand years after the fact, new light is shed on Christ's hidden life as an initiate in the mystical society of the Essene Brotherhood. In the first English-language edition of the European bestseller, Anne and Daniel Meurois-Givaudan describe the way of life in the Essene communities of first-century Palestine. Through direct revelation, the authors received--over a two-year period--detailed knowledge of the Essene teachings and their role in preparing Christ for his mission. At once unpretentious and astonishing, this beautifully written and evocative story lucidly recreates the life and personality of Christ and his role in the spiritual development of humankind.

Since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, questions continue to arise as to the identity of the Essenes and what role they might have played in the life of Jesus. This account complements the gospels, clarifying and enlarging upon mysterious parts of the record--including Christ's mystical and metaphysical teachings of Essene techniques for spiritual advancement. The authors' retelling of the Passion of Christ and its aftermath is an extraordinary account that may forever reshape our understanding of these biblical events.

For me, this book is one I never want to lose. Filled with so much profound truth, it is like a spiral of parables that continually open to greater richness and depth. Thank God I am the kind of person who is open to reincarnation, past-life recall and stories about Jesus not found in the New Testament, because those who are not so open miss a spiritual treasure beyond imagination, and communion with Yeshua at a depth unavailable in the Christian church.
Highly recommended. Yours will become beloved, dog-eared, and not to be loaned!

What a lovely book. Poetic, profound, a genuine gift. This was so much more than what I expected. You could perhaps even go so far as to describe this as a bible for a new christianity, without dogma, free to express itself at the highest levels of spirit. Almost ironic, in that the book is adamant (as am I), that spirituality is freedom, personal, and cannot be described by laws contrived by humans. If you long for a christianity that is real and expressive of love, just love, then please read this. And it's that simple, truly...

This book is written as a novel, based on information received through journeying to the Akashic Records. The story begins with a young boy and girl from the village where Jesus also grew up; the young couple grows up and marry. The book follows them throughout their lives, studying and working as healers in the Essene Community. This book presents another perspective on the life of Jesus and gives the reader much food for thought. If you are interested in the times of Christ, you will enjoy this book.

This is not what I was taught. My short "big reveal" and reaction. Freaking me out! Fascinating me! Changing my energy! Aliens? Alien encounters? Christ is an alien? Well, that would explain "virgin birth". Taught by direct descendants of aliens? It's a channeled book that I can't share with anyone but a few select people. I hate to blow the scene & get to the punch, but in the end Christ lives and taught into his old age at the Krmel. Yes, I finished it. And it was written lovingly. And I will read more about the Essenes! What this book claims that Jesus said about eating food blew my mind. Gen 1:29, and no meals above the temperature of human blood, or touched by frost. No frozen food! Well, that would explain why we are not healing others like Christ did! Our bodies cannot hold the energy that would come through us to do so... if we put dead, denatured, impure food into our vessels! No matter what, thank you Jesus.

I really enjoyed this book. So much of the Essene gospel was removed from the Christian Bible, this fills in a lot of gaps.

This book is bizarre and I have trouble understanding what it’s purpose is. It is a novel reimagining Jesus as some kind of alien. The world it is set in is full of magic and mysticism.

I picked up the book because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the Essenes and to what extant Jesus might have been an Essence or influenced by them. The description on the back of this book misleads you to believe that there might be some connection to reality, but there is none. I guess the idea of setting Jesus as an alien in a hyper-magical world has promise, so maybe it was the execution that was a flop for me.

Another reviewer mentioned Akashic records so I googled and the Wikipedia page starts like this:

> “In the religion of theosophy and the philosophical school called anthroposophy, the Akashic records are a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms, not just human. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the mental plane.”

If that resonates with you, read this book. It’s just not my thing I guess.

Nit: The first half of the book is first person narrated by one character. Then most of the the rest of the book is jarringly my narrated by a different character without any cause or explanation for the change (the first character is still present for all events). Then at the end we switch back to being narrated by the first character.

2-stars instead of 1 because it is admittedly creative and unique.

I'd give this book 5000 stars if I could! Absolute best book I've read in a long time!!
If you're interested in what you've heard of the Essenes, specifically, that they believe Jesus did not die on the cross, this is a must read!!!
If you've enjoyed THE COURSE IN MIRACLES, this would also be a must read. The words of Jesus in this book are much more like those in TCIM, than in the Bible!!!!
Have you seen the new documentary, Christspiracy? This book also talks about some of the secrets exposed in that film.
Well worth reading, whatever religion you claim to be!!!!!

As a youth taking confirmation classes, I began questioning what I was being taught. Religion didn't quite sit comfortably in my soul. It's not that I needed proof of God's existence--the fact that we are here on this life-giving planet and able to reproduce is evidence enough for me. Bible stories teach moral lessons I value, but something was missing.

I am not saying "The Way of the Essenes" is the answer, but it sure is intriguing and opens up more questions to explore. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Codices have opened up new and/or clearer views of the life of Christ making him more accessible both as a married man and the Risen Christ. "The Way of the Essenes" clarifies for me Christ's message of love and the immediate and innate accessibility of the kingdom of God.

Truly a stimulating and enlightening read, I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind. Rather than stealing something from my faith, this work served to deepen it.

Peace and joy to you.
