Fireworks

Rate this book
Katie Hanover and Nate King had a tangled history together. A game of truth or dare started with fireworks and ended with heartbreak. Can this age-gap, best friend's little sister, romance end with a happily ever after or will all the relationships crash and burn?

Nate: Nathan King and Asher Hanover had been friends since Mrs. Hanover got hired as his nanny when he was two. That was exactly why looking at Asher's little sister, Katie, as anything other than an annoyance was completely off-limits. It was fine. She had hated him since she was fourteen anyway.

Katie: Growing up in Nate and Ashers' shadow was never easy. Now that she was eighteen Katie planned on taking full advantage of the new life she would have in college. Until Nate decided he needed to be the protective older brother she didn't ask for. He couldn't stop stepping in and making her second guess the conflict between her head and heart when it came to Nathan.

This is the 1st book I’ve been able to read of Hayden’s and I’ve gotta say I love it! It is the second book in the “Summit Creek” series but I feel like I was able to follow the story very well! I was given the opportunity to read it early for an honest review and I’m so glad I was chosen to. I will definitely be reading more of her work!!!
If you like romance fiction with some spice, Hayden Bellarose is your author!!!

Katie has lived in the shadow of her big brother Asher, and his best friend Nate for as long as she can remember. She can't stand Nate and he sees her as an annoyance, until one night of fireworks and truth or dare turns everything around. They were supposed to be off-limits, but can a relationship flourish between them or will it burn as quickly as it ignited?

This was a cute best-friends sister romance. I loved Nate and Katie together and seeing their challenges felt so realistic. They had a lot to overcome, especially with the age-gap they shared, but it seemed like they were just meant for each other. The writing was great, and I never wanted to put the story down once I got started.

The trouble I had was getting started. The beginning didn't take off like I hoped it would, so I didn't struggle the first couple chapters to get into the story. But once I was in, I was ALL in and dying to see what happened next.

"I mean it darlin', you take my breath away every time I see you."

Oh wow....this is one of those brother's best friend/best friend's sibling stories that just flows perfectly. It is the type when the H knows at a young age he feels differently towards the h even though he isn't quite sure what those feelings mean. Nate is that H!

A misunderstanding when Katie is 14 years old leads her to harbor hatred towards Nate for the next four years until her freshman year of college. Being forced to stay in a hotel room together one night feelings start coming to the surface. Sadly Nate gets hung up on Katie's brother being his best friend and brother in every way but blood. He doesn't want to lose him.

More and more Katie starts to feel she doesn't mean as much to Nate as he does to her. His procrastination on talking to her brother starts to get to her and things come to a blow. She has no idea how Nate really feels about her and a series of events takes place that makes her realize she may have behaved in a childish way.

I absolutely loved the tension between these two and the fierce protectiveness that Nate has when it comes to Katie. To watch their relationship develop and the anguish Nate feels over not telling Asher for fear he will lose him....he gets stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ms. Bellarose had my heart racing there for a while with the storyline. There is a nice little plot twist thrown in that you won't see coming. No fear though...Nate and Katie end with an HEA and a nice little lead into the next book in the series!

I am a sucker for this trope. Brother’s best friend is my favorite. Before I get to deep into the story and why I loved it I will say this book, this at this exact moment, is my top read of this year. I loved it. My emotions were all over the place. I laughed. I cried. I definitely swooned for Nate more than once. Not to mention it had what I am always looking for in this trope, a fight between the brother and the friend. Katie hates Nate. Nate always picks on Katie but also has a soft spot for her. There was a few times I wanted to smack the crap out of Nate, but he redeemed himself pretty quickly.

Thank you to Author Hayden Bellarose for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the first book that I have read by Hayden. I really liked Fireworks. I loved how we got dual POV and also how we got to see some background into the relationship between Katie and Nate. The banter between the two was perfection. I loved the slow burn. The chemistry between Katie and Nate was amazing. The story was easy to follow and flowed well.

One of the best books I've read in a long time. In love with the characters and the story line. The way the characters interact so smoothly. The tension is perfect. Those plot twists are amazing. Who would not fall for her brothers best friend. Can't wait to read the next one!

Good read. Slow burn. Great character chemistry. Complicated relationships. Great amount of spice sprinkled throughout. Quick arc read. I’d recommend it so I give it a solid four stars.

There are a few things I loved about this book and a one I didn't. Starting with the didn't like: the book touched on dating violence, I loved the idea and how the author described the situations (and how the lead got out of them) but felt the ending of that plot needed a little more closure than it was given.
Now that that's out of the way. I absolutely loved the slow burn, the chemistry, and how complex some of the relationships were. I got frustrated (when I should have) when the leads didn't communicate, I fell in love with them as they realized their love for each other, and the spice was just the right amount. Not more than needed but didn't leave us hanging either. The story wrapped up pretty smoothly and lead into the next story of the series.
Overall a good sit by the pool summer read, not too heavy and short enough to finish in a day.

Great read really enjoyed this book 5/5.

Brother’s best friend with a 4-year age gap a road trip and some craziness. The best part was how he didn’t like being called by his full name, but she did it anyway to rattle him. This was a bit of a slow burn but once it got started OMG the chemistry was on point.

This is Landon’s (from book 1 – Tainted Trust) niece. This is a brother’s best friend / sneaking kisses / one bed. I love the characters, the banter. And don’t get me started on how much I love a good darlin’ (chef’s kisses)
