Wonder: Book Club Discussion Questions and Trivia

Rate this book
Auggie Pullman is an unusual boy with a very unusual face. He was born with multiple craniofacial abnormalities that make his appearance look ugly and frightening, if you listen to what people say when they see him. He has been home schooled, but now that he will be in 5th grade, his parents decide he needs to go to a school in the community. He doesn’t want to go because he knows that he will be avoided by others, made fun of, and be considered a freak. He encounters all the things he had feared. However, he is befriended by a girl named Summer, and soon he is known for his intelligence and sense of humor. Life still isn’t easy, but now it is better with a friend. The story is told in alternating voices. No adult voices are heard, except as quoted by the young voices of children and teens. Auggie’s, of course, his sister, his sister’s boyfriend, Summer, a boy at school, and former friend of his sister tell the stories that make up the novel. Does Auggie survive his 1st year in a mainstream school? Who are his real friends? How does he handle his disfigurement? Read the novel and enjoy. Be ready to learn a few precepts along the way from one of his teachers. This short E-Book is a guide for group discussions about the novel. Included are several questions for discussion, vocabulary words, a short, but fun quiz, and a brief author bio. Sometimes group discussions get off track, and on occasion the discussion can fade when there aren’t enough thought- provoking questions. This guide is designed to help everyone think by asking questions that may not have been brought up before. This guide will help keep your book discussion lively and interesting. It will encourage people who are hesitant to talk to share their thoughts on the book. The goal is not only to have gotten the satisfaction from reading the book, but to love talking about it with your group members. Enjoy! Thank you for your interest.
