She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
4.5 Stars Patrick, the Marquis of Addenbrook, is very arrogant & delights in showing off his wealth & his possessions & the excellent company he keeps. Irritated by the arrival of his nephew, Henry whom he has been forced to care for, Patrick quickly hires a governess and intends to continue on with his life just as it has been before, only to find himself slowly becoming distracted by the young governess’ presence in the house. Lady Albina has been forced to run from her family’s estate as her father was forcing he to marry a complete rogue. Hiding her true name and seeking aid from her old governess, she is relieved and frightened to take on a position with the marquis. Finding him aloof and disinterested in her, Albina throws herself into her new situation. The second book in the series & it’s easily read on its own. A well written entertaining read, which I read in a sitting. I loved Albina who was strong, kind & caring. I disliked Patrick at the start of the book he was just so arrogant & self centred but the more I read the more he realised what was important & gradually changed his outlook. I also loved how the pair locked horns & thoroughly enjoyed their banter. I also loved how they gradually began to like each other & to fall in love. There was also the mystery surrounding Patrick’s brother & one of the villains was a surprise My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I enjoyed this short book. The characters were not badly drawn. I liked the little boy and how he got closer to his uncle as the story unfolded. It was a bit short for me, so I don't know if I will try book #1.
I loved Henry. When Patrick’s brother goes missing he takes in his son Henry. Patrick does not want a child around so he hires a governess. Albina is being forced to marry a man she does not trust so like any smart lady she runs and yes you guess it she becomes the governess. She does not care for Patrick he is jerk and does not treat Henry well. It was entertaining to see Patrick change. The past does show it ugly head so there is a few exciting scenes, but there is a twist that brings another snake into the mix. It was a good a book and a joy to read. I am happy to recommend this one in fact the whole series so far has been excellent. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
My recommendation, don't make the character an arrogant idiot. This is a mimick of the first in the series. A guy too caught up in wanting to impress and then when itt doesn't materialize her doesn't understand why and is irritated. Give me a break. This guy is stupid. We don't want a hero that is stupid. Especially twice in a row. I returned it after I recognized the idiocy of his thinking when he was conversing with the Lord someone about having multiple house parties.
Does anyone want to be around anyone that thinks his house parties are the greatest thing ever!!No
Sorry to be so harsh but this was painful. Create a hero with a personality worth investing in.
She disappears from her father’s home after he demands she marry a man she loathes She goes to her governess — who directs her to the home of another former student. And she becomes a governess. And she adores her student. Even though his uncle ignores him. Rose Pearson has written ANOTHER amazing love story!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
To avoid having to marry a licentious nobleman, Lady Albina Waterford accepts a position as governess to Lord Patrick's nephew and is successful at calming the child. There is intrigue in the plot as Lord Patrick searches for his brother, the missing father of the child, and as Lady Albina's obnoxious would-be husband searches for her. This was a good read, but the plot could have used more development.
I couldn’t finish this book by a long shot. I tried to read both this and another book by this author and found both to be interminable bores. Everyone is awful except for the heroine who is the bravest, beautifulest, brilliant est woman in existence.
WHAT AN AMAZING STORY! I found myself completely enthralled and immersed into the story. I could not put the book down. The feelings of fear, hopelessness, helplessness, uncertainty begin the story of Lady Albina. As she takes the position of governess doubt fills her as she had never done this before. But the advice of her own governess helps her immensely with her charge. She had to change her name for fear of discovery by her father who was determined to force her to marry the despicable Lord Kingston. He has the ton fooled that he is a most attentive gentleman proper and all that is good. But his nefarious exploits have been covered up. Albina refuses to marry him and thus caused her to run away.
Now she is the governess for a four-year-old nephew of Lord Addenbrook. Due to her direct and honest observations she feels she has overstepped and will be sacked by Patrick. However, it was just what Patrick did not know he needed. Someone to call him out on his BS and not back down. Albina made Patrick think about his life, his beliefs and actions. He did not like the man he saw and began to feel guilt instead of anger. He changed his boastful and prideful life into one he could be proud of.
While Albina was hiding out, Patrick was looking for his brother James. He disappeared into thin air and left his son with Patrick. Patrick was a total @ssh0le to his nephew. That is why Albina was straight forward with him.
The suspense and tension were so very realistic that I could not stop reading. Lord Kingston by luck became a guest of Patrick. Albina was terrified he would discover her. Patrick was slow on the uptake of his brother's circumstances and who was threatening him and his son. All of this was happening at the same time and let me tell you the conclusion was shocking.
When I got to the last page I said "Oh no" the story was over. I would have loved for it to go on and discover how Albina's parents reacted to finding out about her new situation and that Lord Kingston was found out to be deplorable as she knew and told her father he was. I also would have liked to have gotten to know Patrick's brother James. His son Henry was an adorable child which gave testament to James’s excellence as a father.
This is a must read. You will not be bored nor disappointed. I highly recommend this book.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed Happily Ever After Page-turner Realistic Scary Twisted Unpredictable Wonderful characters
This is the third book of Pearson’s I have listened to. There were parts of the story that I enjoyed, like the change in one of the protagonists although that did feel rather rushed for it to be believable in my opinion. I also liked the part of the story about the little boy and the mystery of his father—parts of his story were unexpected, specially the very end, and I liked that. The mystery was a nice bonus that the other two books I’ve read by this author didn’t have.
I did feel the end lacked a few things like and explanation of what happened with one of the bad guys after he was locked up in the house. Also I would have appreciated a resolution at the end that involved Albina’s family or at least a bit in the epilogue about what her family’s reaction was to her new situation. Lastly, I appreciated that there wasn’t a “righteous friend” character to the bad boy protagonist. The other two books of Pearson’s I read had that kind of friend and I didn’t enjoy there always being that friend telling the bad boy protagonist all the wrong things they are doing or “teaching them a lesson” of some sort. I could understand one of her stories having a character like that but not all of them so I appreciate the variety specially because I personally find that kind of character annoying. Anyways, it’s a clean story and I appreciate that. There are only a few kisses that aren’t very descriptive.
It seems all of Pearson’s stories, well at least the three i’ve read have a redemption theme so it can be hard to read about a protagonist that isn’t very nice specially if you like rooting for protagonists, but I encourage readers to hold on because redemption does come and in the end you walk away with the hope of redemption for your own failings in life.
When I started reading this I saw the same theme as in book 1. A VERY arrogant H that was so unlikable! But, unlike book 1 this H started to show signs of changing earlier. Even though book 2 of the series, it is a stand alone, with no crossover character's.
It wasn't explained why the H wanted everyone to be envious of him. He flanted his wealth and position and relished when people were in awe of him. Hard to like such an arrogant fool, but I did change my opinion of him - thankfully.
The h runs away from a forced marriage. Oh, so thankfully I didn't live in this time period. Father's could sell you to the highest bidder. You weren't sure if a man was interested in you or your dowery.
The h is young and has never worked as a Governess, being an Earl's daughter. How she lets the H know what she thinks was perfect. She walked a fine line of letting him know her feelings but being submissive all the same, since she was the Governess.
I did figure out one part of the story - the rat noise. But, I didn't see who the villain was - nice twist.
Somethings I wanted to know and weren't addressed. What were the reaction of her parents when she informs them of changes in her life? Why didn't the H get a special license? He was wealthy and could certainly afford it. This ended at the 92% on my e-reader. Instead of a taste of book 1, would've been better served to include an epilogue.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance, clean with only a kiss. (ljb)
The story was okay but very cheesy and extremely predictable. The main characters did not spend enough time together to “fall in love”. Nor did they spend enough time together that she was an influence on him changing his behavior. The book needed to be longer with the characters actually spending time together. And it would have been better had Patrick joined her and Henry in their activities so he could develop a relationship with her and with his nephew. He was extremely selfish, arrogant and a complete jerk in the beginning of the story. There was just not enough of ANYTHING to make him change his personality so drastically. A good rough draft, but I urge the author to work on this book again to improve it. It does have good bones to it, but it needs more happening in the story.
Lady Albina is being forged to marry Lord Kingston who is a gentleman of dubious character! He wants her generous dowlry to pay off his debts. He is use to getting what he wants! She decides to run away to her old governess who finds her a job with Patrick, the Marquess of Addenbrook, to look after his nephew! He is a very selfish man who cares nothing for his nephew! She takes an instant dislike to him. When Lord Kingston show up asking for help to locate his missing fiancé Patrick sees he is not A good man despite seeing so much of himself in the man. Patrick learns some hard truths about himself and those he call friends. This was great book with the perfect HEA!
As Lady Albina Waterford is told she will marry Lord Kingston by her father, she finds no way out other than to sneak away without anything. She went to her old governess who helped her get a job as a governess to Henry, the nephew is currently with his uncle Lord Addenbrook. Apparently, the child arrived with no one else in or on the carriage. His brother is missing and he doesn’t know a thing about taking care of a child. Lady Albina has assumed the name Miss Trean. Could she pull this off, as well as stay hidden from anyone that might know her? A story showing what love can accomplish.
This utterly enjoyable story had me hooked from the start. When I first met Patrick I disliked his character, then he began to have little changes in his character that made me change my mind. I loved how he would do anything he could for those he cared about. Albina was so good with Henry, she is so caring and has a winning personality. This book will not let you down with the suspense, intrigue, drama, and surprises. It was a nice way to escape reality for a time.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced review copy of this book.
Albina is informed by her father that he’s arranged a marriage to a man that he’s chosen. She hates the man and decides to run away to escape the marriage. She becomes a governess for Patrick a Marquess that has been given his nephew to take care of because his brother has gone missing. But he doesn’t want his nephew but hopes the governess can care for him because he wants to go back living his life! But she is slowly getting to him and he finds her intriguing. But her past is coming for her, will he help save her? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
You will most likely find yourself doing a lot of eye rolls at Patrick's character in the beginning. He was beyond ridiculous. Don't stop reading. As the story unfolds, his change is huge. There were some surprises too! I felt for Henry. Love the way the governess dealt with him. Overall it was an interesting, clean story with some unexpected twists. I personally would have liked to see Albina vindicated with regards to her father though. I felt that aspect was lacking. Still a good read.
Lady Albina runs away from an unwanted marriage. She becomes a governess for Henry, the nephew of Patrick, the Marquess of Addenbrook. She takes the name of Miss Ann Trean and soon comes to care deeply for Henry. Her interactions with Patrick begin changes in him as well as he begins to see himself as being very self-centered. Then the very man she is fleeing from, shows up at Addenbrook and she has to be doubly careful not to run into him.
Easier to pretend... Harder to face certain truths. I had a strange feeling about Hogarth, yet slightly still surprised for his part in the story. Everyone knows what a piece of trash Lord Kingston was - not sure if Lord Rutherford truly knew or not. I enjoyed watching Patrick "grow-up" as he did after having Albina on his staff, and I was so glad she finally trusted him enough to share her secret with him. Which led to the friendship/bond with cute Henry.
Lady Albina Waterford, daughter of the Earl of Rutherford, was to wed Lord Kingston when he was discovered in brothel and she refused to marry him because of it. Her father insisted that she marry him so she ran away from home to become a governess. She went to work for the Marquess of Addenbrook to be a governess to his nephew Henry. Ms. Pearson has writ-ten another excellent book and I recommend that you read it...
A little shallow and predictable but enjoyable. About to be betrothed to a scoundrel of no remorse. The lady who had always been told she could choose her own husband is now being forced by her father to marry the worst possible person. Taking matters into her own hands, she flees London for a former governess to escape her fate. Taking a position as a governess, she is able to be invisible to members of society.
Wonderful storyline. Albina is determined to avoid an unwelcome marriage and thanks to her old governess, runs away and accepts a position looking after a young lad. Lord Patrick Addenbrook has no idea what to do with children and hires a governess for his nephew Henry. The heated discussions between Albina and Patrick look to be leading them to an unexpected place, but a twist will upset the household. I really enjoyed this book.
"The Hidden Governess" by Rose Pearson Mystery & Suspense all wrapped up in . . . A sweet clean Regency Romance story that kept me turning those pages and trying to solve the mysteries before the author made clear the who, what, where, and how. I call this an easy light fun read. I hope you enjoy your time in this story as much as I enjoyed my time with Patrick and Albina. Happy Reading ! ! NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the author. This review expresses my honest opinion.
Part of the Ladies on their Own series. Patrick, the Marquess of Addenbrook and Lady Albina a woman in hiding's story, there is also Patrick's nephew Henry. The story has drama, danger, twists, turns, secrets, villains, and romance. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lady Albina flees her home to avoid a forced marriage to a man she despises. her old governess helps her find employment as governess for the nephew of a marquess. she immediately takes to the young boy but then her would be husband is a guest at the house party the marquess hosts. find out if she can evade him successfully and what might develop between herself and her employer.
The Hidden Governess is a simple story about a woman who runs away from an arranged engagement engineered by her father. The choices for a lady with no training except to be a member of the ton. She turns to her former governess who helps her get a job under an assumed name. The rest is predictable, but entertaining. Enjoy!
I enjoy the books in this series because it has strong women with principles, brains and the ability to do what is right. In this story, Lady Albina can't abide the man her father is forcing her to marry. As a governess, she is able to love a little boy and protect him as well as encourage his uncle. Good story with a good ending.
This story has likeable characters and an interesting motivation for Henry's dad to leave him behind. The intended groom is horrible and the reader totally understands why anyone would rather escape than marry him. The book is well thought out and written. If I were keeping it on my kindle it would be 5 stars.
