This is the third Blake Pierce Bundle I read with two series starter novels included. I find the novels exceptional reads with varying themes that exploit the authors' abilities to build heart-rending suspense, describe anxiety-inducing situations, and create fearsome, chaotic killers.
In Her Last Wish our main character, Behavioral Crimes Unit specialist Rachel Gift, finds out that she has a short time to live due to cancer, just before she initiates an investigation with the possibility of the killer targeting women looking to begin invitro-fertilization as a means to get pregnant. To complicate matters she can't wrap her mind around her impending death, she therefore decides to keep things secret from her partner, her boss, and her family.
The Perfect Wife is a story about Jessie Hunt who is training to become a profiler of serial killers while she and her husband have moved into a seaside community that embraces the nautical culture as a means to demonstrate status and accomplishment, but Jessie doesn't realize that the move has been a way for her husband to meet new clients, raise his status in his firm, and grab the brass ring that he believes he deserves. Can Jessie keep up with her husband's aspirations?
As always these books are filled with building suspense, horror-inducing situations, and characters that are memorable. The writing is succinct, laser-focused, and every bit as suspenseful as all I've read before. That's why I keep returning to these series.
