Another Beast's Skin #2
A Braiding of Darkness: Another Beast’s Skin #2
In the wake of the Elders’ betrayal, Cadeyrn is forced to shift into his inner beast, making him flee the Queen’s Isle and become entrapped by a vindictive former lover and a scheming succubus.
Neysa’s search for her missing mate leads her deeper down a path of betrayal and self doubt, taking her to Heilig, the ancestral lands of her mother’s kin. Her uncle, King Konstantín, has called upon Neysa to aid in ridding their lands of an army of phantomes, restless spirits of the dead, plaguing Heilig.
What Neysa doesn’t know, is that her life may be forfeit in order to vanquish the phantomes and their blight upon the lands. The relativity of time itself is stretched when an ancient timepiece forged of both realms, becomes a weapon to separate the fae realm’s major players. The clock moves the tapestry of fate from Heilig and Aoifsing, to the timeless streets of London. Deception embedded deep within the ties which bind Neysa’s family will fray their trust in her and her relationship to a powerful goddess. Left with only the tenuous trust of a former enemy and the realization that Neysa may have given up any chance she ever had at love, she must battle time itself before everyone they know is purged.

This is an amazing sequel to the first book that truly throws Neysa through the ringer, in all the worsed of ways. She has to go through various trails and challenges to get back. Luckily, she finds others which she can lean on as she goes through those challenges. This book ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to dive in book 3!
The book is written so well, the issues Neysa has to deal with are written respectfully as well which I always think is really important to do. I also like that we get to explore more the world.

I'm not a fantasy reader. I'm not, I swear.
But when it comes to Jessika Grewe Glover, I am. I sooooooo totally am.
It's not the fae or the magic, not the crystals or the physics or the world-building. It's her characters. The fact that Neysa isn't some twenty-something, doe-eyed waif is compelling enough on its own, but add in PTSD and anxiety and the weight of a literal world on her shoulders (women, we are relating hard) and I can't look away.
And I sure as hell don't want to.
A Braiding of Darkness pushes readers into a love triangle that's not quite a love triangle, higher stakes all around, and new villains with motivations that pull focus on Neysa's very raw trauma. I'm absolutely gutted and reassembled again and again while reading Glover's work, and I'm so grateful. I walk away knowing myself a bit better, feeling seen. It's one thing to go through a tear-down in life -- I don't think anyone wishes to have their identity, purpose, world turned upside-down -- but experiencing Neysa's arc alongside her is cathartic + transformative.
Book 3 is going to be fire.

I had the privilege of reading an early copy of A Braiding of Darkness, the second book in Jessika’s smart and sexy adult Fae fantasy trilogy.
Before you read it though, make sure to buckle your proverbial emotional seat belt and bring along a box of Kleenex for the ride.
It picks up at the very end of the first book with a betrayal that forced Neysa’s mate Caderyn to disappear, and she goes in search of him. In the process, she’s lead to her mother’s homeland of Heilig. There, she’s called upon to rid the land plagued by phantomes.
I won’t give away the devastating aftermath of that journey and epic battle because it only leads to more gasping moments, namely the discovery of a ancient clock that has the power to alter time, space, and fate that most importantly threatens to tear apart Neysa’s found family and her homeland.
If this weren’t enough, Neysa discovers she’s bound to Silas, Caderyn’s cousin which forms an unusual and heartbreaking love triangle that defies the trope, and is rendered in a way that defines the term 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑠𝑡!
Jessika’s built an incredible world with incredible stakes and incredible characters, that you’ll definitely want to finish the journey with in the final installment. 🖤⚔️🖤

OH BOY! I am giving this bad girl FOUR STARS!
I really enjoyed how we pick up in this book directly after book one's cliffy. The search for Cade and his reunion with Neysa just created more political turmoil for everyone in Aoifsing (such a fun name too). It was full of trying to discover who can be trusted and the obstacles that come with discovering the truth. I think it was well developed and although I wish there was more of a personal connection with the characters themselves, they were well portrayed and fun to get to know.
It was so fun to see the corruption unravel and how certain family members can go kick rocks. The connection between Neysa and Cade was deep and I felt relatable, because every relationship comes with complications and tension. Ms. Glover does an exceptional job with creating twists and turns for the reader to stay alert as their unraveling the truths of the story.
The characters are so much fun, ESPECIALLY Rey and Silas. The two of them had me out loud laughing with their banter. I love when we get comedic relief in books that have you LOLing. All of these characters have some degree of relatability.
I am super excited to get started on book 3 and see what else Ms. Glover has in store for her characters and the development of the plot.

This sequel is an enchanting and enthralling fantasy novel that will take you on a journey through worlds both familiar and unknown. The writing is masterful, effortlessly weaving together different plot threads and imbuing each character with depth and nuance.
I still love Neysa so, so much. Five stars for her alone.
What sets "A Braiding of Darkness" apart is the author's ability to create a rich and immersive world that is both familiar and fantastical. The world-building of Aoifsing is filled with intricate details that will leave you spellbound. And this book is just so sexy.
Overall, this series is a must-read for fans of fantasy, and I'd even recommend it to those who are new to the genre. The storytelling will leave you captivated and eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

not my thing
hard read.
just a warning, it does become a bit of a why choose situation that never coalesces as a why choose — which i think this author is handling well but it’s heartbreaking all around and i think it’s an interesting thought experiment that i have interest in further reading. just not my cup of tea.
furthermore, with an e book being $10 you would assume the editing would have been sorted out. i don’t blame the author for this, but it is quite jarring

A phenomenal follow up to Another Beast's Skin, I love how we're dropped immediately into the aftermath of the first book. The search for Cade and his and Neysa's reunion leads to the discovery of more political corruption in Aoifsing and the the threat of phantomes in Neysa's homeland of Heilig, along with new family members that the couple, along with Silas and Cora don't know they can trust.
The unraveling of the political corruption, new and dubious family members, phantomes, and the discovery of the fact that Neysa's and Cade's deepening connection is not without complications, including a a possible per-ordained destiny, and another mate. I loved following the twists and turns of who is an ally and who is a villain, but my absolute favorite part was the burgeoning friendship and understanding between Reynard and Silas, I laughed every time they were on the page together.
I can't wait to read the 3rd book to see how Neysa, Cade, Cora and Silas will survive and thrive the latest danger inside Aoifsing.

A Braiding of Darkness, the second installment of the Another Beast's Skin Trilogy, does not disappoint! The twists and turns, the action, the drama all blew my mind in the best way possible. This is not only an entertaining read, it's a brilliant, philosophical, intelligent read, too! Very much anticipating book 3!

In the sequel to Another Beast's Skin, we follow the story of Neysa and her mate, Caderyn as they navigate everything, and everyone, who wants to tear them apart.
I was thoroughly enraptured with A Braiding of Darkness. Glover has done an exceptional job of writing characters that you will fall in love with....and want to murder. I am a hardcore Silas fan, but Reynard swooped in and captured my heart. He's sly like that!
The world of Aoifsing is under the threat of corrupt politics while Heilig, the ancestral land of Neysa's mother, has an army of phantomes threatening it's destruction. And our heroine must contend with it all while coming to grips with her own darkness and her relationship to a goddess.
Glover takes a fun spin on magic in this series by explaining it scientifically....made this little nerd heart happy! Time is a weapon, and Neysa must stop those who would wield it against those she loves.
We get the continuation of the found family trope (one of my favorites) from ABS on top of the long lost family trope. Add in a fresh take on the classic love triangle, and it makes this fun read downright swoon worthy! I also love the inclusivity in this series, it made the PERFECT summer read for Pride month!
There's really so much to love about this book and I cannot wait for the next in the series!

Incredible
Enjoyed the second book in the series just as much as the first one. And immediately diving into the next one as I have to know what happens next!
It’s one of those “just-one-more-chapter-how-is-it-2a.m.-already” books.
Absolutely brilliant.

This is an amazing sequel. I did get a little frustrated with how many times her and Cadeyrn ended up at odds. But, although it frustrated me, it does play a huge role. I just am completely enamored by these books!
