Oath of Bane #2

How It Has to Be

Rate this book
Mercy. This was a word Brick Bane had never understood until his brother spared his life three weeks ago. As bear shifter with a failed mission, he’s watching his brother’s every move to try and discover what has changed him so much. The only thing that makes sense? The girl his brother has broken the rules with. There’s a waitress in town who is paying a little too much attention to Brick, and now he’s wondering why she’s calling so strongly to him. The rules are simple: Never touch a human’s skin, never fall for a woman, and never, ever let a human find out what he is. But this beguiling creature is slowly making him want to break the rules of the Oath of Bane too. The only problem? The consequence is complete annihilation…for both of them.

Trinity is just trying to get her head above water right now, but when a big, burly, sexy-as-fire mountain man starts frequenting her restaurant, she can’t help but be distracted. He’s rough around the edges, and blunt, and has these crazy rules, but he’s also protective, and kind to her in surprising moments. After the year she’s had, she sure could use the feeling of safety he provides. The issue with that? Brick Bane’s life is anything but safe. There’s a big bad bear in the woods hunting them, and the crows in the sky say something is very, very wrong. She has two options. One, go back to the safe life, or two, stand beside Brick and weather the storm that is barreling toward them.

Destiny is coming for the Bane brothers, and Trinity is determined not to let Brick hide from it any longer. Only her love can awaken the monster.

Don’t miss this exciting second installment in T. S. Joyce’s bestselling Oath of Bane novella series.

This one really got to me right away. Brick really comes off as lost, the fight with Aux totally threw him. The one encounter with Trinity and Tucker also threw him, but in a different way, a way that all of a sudden he's interested in something. I liked how gruff he was, yet Trinity seemed to get it and it sure didn't bother Tucker at all. But the best was the talk between Aux and Brick about what was going on. Finally the brothers got to be brothers, which was great!

The big fight with the last brother at the end was harrowing! I both loved and hated how Tucker wanted to help. It will be interesting going forward what happens now with the last brother and all the crows.

Another brother down

Brick meets trinity and Tucker at the diner she works for. They fall in love however the crowd and Moore come to stop it all unsuccessfully. I just hope the last book has answers, cubs and happiness.

Aux's brother Brick went to kill him for breaking his oath to never touch a human. but now he understood why Aux did it. All they were ever taught by their murderess father about humans was all a lie. When his bear lays his monstress eyes on Trinity and her son Tucker, all the lies and the oath, he and his brothers made goes out the window.

Now he must fight his brother Moore to protect his family and that includes Aux and his mate. Will Brick be able to protect them though, Moore is the strongest of the triplets.

Every book I've read in this series only gets better.

Again kudos Ms. Joyce!

Chills all around😳

How it has to be is the second book in this series and I absolutely loved getting to know these characters❣️

Brick is struggling to heal after the fight with his brother Aux😢. When he is in town at the local diner, he meets Trinity and her son Tucker. He has three rules to follow but as he goes into the diner to see Trinity every day, something changes and he starts to question the rules after seeing his brother, Aux, mated🤔

Trinity is struggling as a single mom. She feels like her world is pure chaos, as she has bills galore and everything keeps piling up on her. Until a grump of man listens to her woes and changes everything for her😍

Can’t wait to read the Moore’s story next❤️

Tucker was absolutely adorable and I loved the relationship that developed between Brick and him. Brick and Trinity’s initial meeting and banter at the restaurant cracked me up. It was nice to see Aux and Brick take a step toward brotherhood as well.

A Captivating Continuation of the Bane Brother's Sage...

I loved the first book in T.S. Joyce’s “Oath of Bane” series and had high expectations for this one, and man-o-man did it not disappoint!  Here with book two, “How It Has to Be” Joyce plunges us neck deep into the story of Bricken “Brick” Bane, the second of the bear shifter triplets, a coarse man even more grumbly and angst filled than his brother Aux. A man struggling to understand the significance of recent happenings with Aux and Gwen, as well as, the aftereffects of Aux and his battle after Moore and he discovered Aux had broken the oath to never interact or mate with humans in order to end their grizzly line. An oath signed in blood, a pact their third brother Moore wants enforced no matter the cost, but a pact Brick is now unsure of…

In the confusion that follows Brick struggles to understand and come to terms with all of the events swirling about. He, just like Aux before him, begins to analyze and confront all he has been taught since childhood. He begins to wonder why he was taught as he was by his father, and if perhaps, he too can have more than he was previously led to believe he could, a connection like Aux’s that would help vanquish some of the agonizing loneliness eating him from the inside out. And as he ponders it all he crosses paths with Trinity, the waitress at the town diner that instantly sets his bear on edge.  Trinity, a struggling single mother, desperate to care for her young son Tucker after her ex-husband opts out of caring for his kin in any way beyond what is court mandated. A hardworking, loyal woman, willing to work herself sick for those she cares about, mainly her son, a smart and loving boy who, unbeknownst to her, has a secret that will explode his mother’s world and render it unrecognizable.

What follows is a heart wrenching, fast paced yet menacing story steeped in even more anguish and secrecy than the first book.

I loved every single word of this book! Brick and Trinity’s tale is a dark yet hopeful one embedded in a vibrantly intricate story world full of mind-boggling scenarios and fierce, emotionally intelligent characters that will put you on the edge of your seat and keep you there page after brilliant page.  It continues down the path of the first installment of being more serious tone than your typical shifter romance, but is richer because of it. You will be captivated by it; the shared agony makes the loves displayed throughout that much sweeter. It makes the journey shared by Brick and Trinity, one of learning how to trust, to embrace the now, and love each other with every fiber between them despite the omens circling them of bad things to come.

As I mentioned in my review of book one, this series contains a level of emotional depth I have not seen before within a shifter romance, and it is a most welcome one indeed! Brick’s quiet determination to remove some of life’s burdens from Trinity is "awwww" inducing, his protective instincts and innate fatherly guidance toward Tucker beyond sweet. Trinity’s unwavering love for and loyalty to Brick creates chemistry between them that is undeniable and will set your heart on fire.

As with the first, I do wish the book was longer. This one too has enough literary meat to be novel worthy. However, unlike the first, this one is more connected to the larger plot points, is better plotted and paced in unveiling and helping you understand the larger reasons behind the brother’s pact and the enormity of the circumstances that led to its creation, and is a bit more in-depth overall. As such I cannot wait to dive into the third book and unravel the remaining secrets the Bane brothers still have to tell.

After Bricken Bane did not complete the task he and his two brothers had vowed to uphold, he knows dealing with the situation is what must be done. All three are bear-shifters, and to make sure no one ever discovers their secret, none of them plan to ever be in a relationship, especially when the female is human. But one brother did just that and now must be killed by him. Yet Brick soon finds himself facing the same dilemma, as a local waitress in town has captured his attention for some unexplained reason. Though Trinity Burnside is trying to make ends meet, so many things are not going well for her. Then Brick comes into her life, and both of their lives are made even more complicated with no guarantees for a good outcome.

The fascinating concept behind the Oath of Bane series once again managed to not only leave me shocked at times but also totally captivated while reading the second episode. Any situations T. S. Joyce creates for her main characters to live through in HOW IT HAS TO BE are carefully thought out, as each event was significant in how the lives of Brick and Trinity played out. Whenever I read about this couple going through some of the predicaments that the author dreamt up, I was in fear for their safety at times and could be experiencing their innermost hopeful feelings shortly afterward.

There are numerous times when I wanted to laugh at how Brick reacted to Trinity, because he was often confused and his thoughts certainly reflected this sentiment. I loved seeing the grumpy exterior that he showed to humans, while also being privy to his inner thoughts. She might seem rather helpless on occasion, but other times proved Trinity could be feisty when the need arose. How this couple responded to the other had me experiencing lots of different emotions, as I sensed the genuineness behind their behavior. As secrets come out and decisions must be made, Trinity and Brick find themselves in several precarious positions. Another outstanding story from the imaginative T. S. Joyce.

Breaking The Rules!!!

Bricken "Brick" Bane, a Bear shifter like his brothers, Auxor ( HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE ) and Moore. They all make a path to let their lineage die with them but then Aux went and found his mate. That didn't sit well with Brick, they nearly killed each other.

More like Aux nearly killed him when he went after his mate Gwen. His life was spared and now he didn't know what to think about the idea of him finding his mate as well. He finally understood whT the word "mercy" meant cause that's what his brother did when he let him live.

Now there was this beautiful, hardworking and captivating woman that was calling out to him and his bear. What was a man to do when he knew what would be the consequences for getting to close to her!?

Trinity Burnside, a single mother and a waitress who was barely keeping her head above water when it came to providing for her and her son Tucker. She didn't need any distractions right now but when a sexy as sin Adonis showed them compassion and kept coming to the diner she worked at. She couldn't help the way he made her feel inside.

There was a mutual attraction between her and Brick. The latter was discovering what it meant to have someone to fight for. As they began to grow closer, his brother Moore began to haunt him. He needed to protect the woman he was falling for and the little boy he'd come to consider as his own.

Loved the first encounter between Gwen and Trinity. The ladies developing a friendship was well done. It was a treat to see the two Bane brothers interacting with each other. Brick finally found his one true mate. He got the family he never knew he needed nor wanted.

HOW IT HAS TO BE is the second novella in T. S. Joyce's OATH OF BANE series. Astonishing job by T. S. Joyce. Two thumbs up! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

How it has to be

Book two of this series. I always like the way this author writes kids and their relationships with parents, especially with the MMCs.

I thought it a little odd that we get no further connection to the ex or his parents.

Women sticking up for women - so many of us need reminders and examples.

“Then why on God’s green earth would you yell across the restaurant at your server and take away from these nice people’s breakfast? I’m ordering food. This is my first time in here, so perhaps I’m confused. Is there a time limit?”....

“It had been a long damn time since anyone had stuck up for her like that.”

This comment about men,

“I’m really good at first aid. I was raised with three older brothers and they were all idiots. Man-plans everywhere. They bled all the time.”

And this comment about what men have to offer women. I swear we don't even realize it's missing because so many of us rarely ever have it.

“For once, she just felt…caught up.
Brick had done that. By listening and helping for an evening, he’d taken some of the weight off her shoulders and shared it….”

Better!

3.5 Stars - I was so happy to take a chance at book 2! Brick and Trinity's story really brought this series to light for me. Book one left me perplexed because it definitely needed more. Now, the puzzle pieces are deeply coming together. The one thing that is disappointing for me, is how short the length of these two stories have been. I much more prefer the length of this author's other stories. For me, this series has the potential of being great like some of the previous series... if the length becomes much longer and if the storyline becomes clearer. More humor and more sizzling scenes. Just like this author's earlier series were. All of that, is what made me a fan who owns all of this author's series. She just needs to get back to her gift...of longer books, great strong characters, great storylines, intensity, pages that sizzle in more than one chapter, definitely humor throughout. She has done this numerous times before and I am missing that in this new series. Book 2 was so much better, but not quite up to par with her past series.

This is the second book in the series and they need to be read as order. Brick was tasked with killing his brother for breaking their Oath. Only his brother bests him and then doesn’t kill him when he could have. He doesn’t understand why. Then things begin to change. He sees what his brother has and wonders if he could have the same thing. Have they been lied to their whole lives? Then he meets Trinity and her son. They make him feel things. Things he has never felt before. Could this be what Auxor feels? Trinity is intrigued by Brick immediately. But, what would he want with someone like her? Trinity and her son bring out Brick’s protective instincts. Brick and Auxor’s other brother is now coming for them both. He won’t let them getaway with breaking their Oath. I can’t wait to read about wait to read about the third Bane brother. Fantastic job once again T.S. Joyce. I can’t recommend her books enough. They are always must reads for me.

So this is book 2 in this series and it’s probably pretty necessary to read book 1 first- just to get some additional background information. This is my first series by TS and I fell in love instantly (insta-love;) with this story about these growly mountain ‘men’ triplets. I was left with questions after the first book mostly about crows? And their background... not all is answered in this book but it is definitely a HFN/HEA so I was satisfied but so excited I started right in on book #3. I love how sweet Brick is with Tuck and there were a few jaw dropping moments in this book regarding the 2 of them. We get to see Gwen from book 1 in all her awesomeness when she stops by to meet Trinity at her diner job. It absolutely made a smile! I also love how Brick doesn’t try to fight having a mate especially since he knew the repercussions of connecting with her. I love that he is getting to have a brother again too.

I love love loved this one!!! The tent to read it and had planned not to just because I didn’t really care for the first book I felt it was very open ended and a lot of questions were not answered. Saw there was gonna be a fourth book and so I decided to give the second book a try. I’m so glad I did I loved Brick! He really is afraid and doesn’t want anything to do with the humans. But some thing keeps drawing him back to Trinity. The emotions of him coming off the page. How he didn’t know what was going on, how confused he was wjth these feelings. It was very well written.

Loved when he complemented her and he said, “ you smell like pancake batter and bacon grease. “

I love his next sentence
“I like bacon. “

How sweet is that! He was trying and didnt even realize it.

I also want to mention Tucker. He is a delight to have added to the story. He made me smile and Brick’s heart melt a bit on more than one occasion.

How It Has To Be is my favorite Oath of Bane book. T.S. Joyce knocked it out the park creating characters that I connected with and fell in love with. I love this world she has created for the Bane brothers. I couldn’t help but devour this story to learn more about the Bane brothers’ past and their connection with the crows. This is the kind of world that made me fall in love with T.S. Joyce in the first place.

I loved how Brick showed his devotion to Trinity and Tucker by helping with things around her property. I loved how Trinity helped show Brick what it truly means to be loved and cared for. My heart melted whenever Tucker called Brick, Mr. Bear. The way that Brick cares for Tucker, even though he is not his son or even the same shifter species was super endearing. I’m so in love with this book.

Heartwarming

Shifter grizzly brothers who made a pact to stay away from humans and to never procreate so their line died with them. First Aux finds his mate with Gwen and he and Brick fight. Aux beats Brick and then it's Brick's turn. He goes to the local diner and there he meets Trinity and her young son Tucker. He's drawn to them but growing up the brothers were taught that touch and feelings were bad. Aux learned it wasn't true and that having a mate made everything better and his bear more settled. Eventually Brick learns this truth with Trinity. Now their other brother Moore is out to destroy them. Trinity sends a text to Gwen and Aux comes running. Together he and Brick send Moore running. This is such a heartwarming series and you won't want to miss reading it.

Baby crow to the rescue

I enjoyed this story a lot. Trinity is such a likable person with so many problems like so many of us. Brick is her knight aka bear to the rescue. There are a couple of really good lines that made me laugh so hard. One was when she said "left her there hanging out the window like a schnauzer on its way to a dog park " and the second was when she said "her Jeep was taking a sick day today." I just thought those were such great lines. Tucker was so cute with trying to imitate Brick. Coming out with the dishwashing gloves was priceless. The kicker was when Tuck changed to a crow to try to help Brick when he was fighting his brother. Just an enjoyable read. Wish it was longer because I really enjoyed this story and characters.

Oh wow!!!

I just love a happy ending..but I wander what it means with all these coincidence. But as Gwen said fate sure knows how to play tricks. Brick is one lucky fellow he and his brother now has a bond which they both thought was not possible because alk their lives they believed everything their parents told them..but my thing is what's up with those crows..Trinity sure got the shock of her life when she heard that her son is a shifter too and so am sure he's relieved she now knows the family secret...but what's going to happen next because Moore thief brother is surely going to try hunting his brothers again...but Moore story is next so we will see what happens next. Big fan as always Winzie19 🤗💞.

This is book 2 in the series, following Brick, one of the last 3 bear shifters, and his mate, Trinity. There is a fascinating understory associated with this series, where bear shifters are generally known to become rampaging murderous animals. Such a departure from this author’s other stories and I think, pretty novel a concept.

I liked All characters involved and the story follows a similar story line as the prior story. brick is a bit grumpier than his brother Aux, who found his mate in the prior story, and I felt for Trinity and her son. Overall, a good emotional story, one that benefits from the back story and reading in order (I’m currently on the 6th one and realized I forgot to review the prior ones.)

Again, these stories were interesting enough that I kept reading them because I wanted to see how things with the crows worked out. I like that Brick takes awhile to come to grips with the mercy Aux offered. I liked the dichotomy of him being mated to Tiffany whose son is a crow, which I called almost immediately when he drew Aux as a bear & called him Mr bear. However, I was dissatisfied with what this novella was missing. I wanted more backstory & it just wasn’t there. I did like that so far each female is not a pushover & that Brick had no problem with raising essentially a “crow” instead of a bear or wolf. And overall, the fact that the brothers are working on being brothers is fantastic.

Pondering how to kill Aux for breaking their oath, Bricker Bane’s distracted by the diner manager berating a tardy waitress. Trinity apologizes as she settles her small son, Tucker, and hurries to Brick’s table for his order. Brick’s thoughts of Aux are replaced by his need and thoughts of protecting and providing for Trinity and Tucker.

Brick stops at the diner over the next several days to see Trinity and she looks for him when she’s running errands. Trinity breaks down and babbles her troubles then notices Brick’s bleeding. She touches him and sees his worry that one of them will be hurt and he rushes away. While better than Aux’ outing, to my taste, this read has its own issues with clunkiness, pacing and a large abandoned thread.

It's gritty, growly and grizzled good shifter read

Wow... I was already enamoured by T. S. Joyce's books but the oath of bane series just blew my mind. Its gritty, growly and grizzled. Nothing better then a bear shifter filled with darkness finds the light in a simple touch, smile from a strong, determined woman. A little boy turns a hollow heart into beating one. Creating a family after hardship and loneliness. This book touches you right in the feels, it makes you laugh, cry and scream but most all it keeps you lock in reading until the very end. It's truly an adventure reading this book.

TS Joyce Gives Us Little Miracles

AsI read How It Has To Be, book 2 in her Oath of Bain series, I realized something. It was something I had actually felt through all of her books, but it finally spoke to me. These books that this beautiful, strong, accomplished woman writes are actually pieces of miracles to help us get through whatever it is we need to get through.

More than ever, I am so very thankful to TS Joyce/T Era Shanley for making us feel the hope. For making us recognize our strengths. And especially for loving us so much, as to make our hearts full each time we experience her words.

I've enjoyed both books in this series so far, but I have to say that I enjoyed this second book even more than the first. The hero was still wonderfully Alpha who wants nothing more than to care for his lady love, even though his sudden appearance of feelings scare him. I much preferred the heroine in this second book than the first. I also felt the romance less rushed, even though the book was the same length. And, I appreciated the more fleshing out of the world that happened. Personally the sex still fell pretty flat for me, but if you're looking for a quick paranormal alpha hero read this is a good one. I eagerly await the third instalment later this month.

So far so good, I think I like this book a bit better because it gets deeper into the overall story with the Bane brothers. I definitely think I like Aux more than Brick, but Brick is still a sweetie in his own right. Trinity & Tucker are both darling and the little secret you get is a bit of a surprise...but I definitely think it adds to it. You also get more info on their history & why the oath was taken. Unlike some of her other mini-serieses there seem to be some different "rules" in this version of the universe. Must underline how excellent learning more about the Bane brothers (especially the happenstance near the end) was + Trin bein' a badass!

2nd brother- I like this one a bit more than the first one. Brick is in town to stalk his brother (because he has to kill him you know) and finds himself trapped by a cute woman and her cub. Trinity is a waitress in a small town and can't seem to catch a break.

Brick can't resist her and Tucker (who is a crow!) and before they can have an HEA- Moore comes down from the mountain to kill him for breaking his Oath. Good luck dude.

Question- what's with the green eyes? Both heroines have green eyes now. It better mean something if the next brother finds a mate with green eyes. If not, then its a terrible waste.

If you have read this author previously, you know what to expect. I like her writing voice and I mostly like her characters and this one was no different. I think that she writes interesting and relatable children and love it when she includes kids in her books. This series does seem shorter and quicker per book than her other series, which leaves us dangling a bit and needing a bit more emotional validation that our new book friends are doing okay in their lives. And I do think that the animals are becoming a bit repetitive. I'm concerned that she's not able to expand but because I like her voice and her viewpoint, I will keep reading her books.
