Oath of Bane #5

How It Will Be

Rate this book
Bron is supposed to be dead. His best friend threw him from the sky to land at the feet of his king in a war Bron never asked for. It’s only three left in his Murder now, and everyone knows the Crow Blooded only survive in numbers. Betrayed by his people, Bron looks to the bears he was supposed to kill for a forbidden alliance, but he and Krome can’t build a crew on their own. He hires a ghost from his past with a special set of skills. His childhood friend can draw in the monsters he needs to protect his king, but Ren has changed in the fifteen years since he’s seen her last. The little pipsqueak that followed him around all those years ago has turned into a sass-filled, tough-as-nails, sensitive-in-surprising-ways vixen who catches his attention and holds it from the second she drives up to his cabin. The only problem? For reasons unknown to him, she’s holding a mighty big grudge on Bron. And as he tries to draw her closer, he slowly discovers nothing was ever what it seemed. Caught right in the middle of forming an alliance that will bring all of the War Birds down on him, and wanting to protect the only woman who can save his damaged soul, Bron has to decide exactly how far he will go for loyalty.

Ren is a coveted female crow who holds the secrets of every Murder she’s been passed around to. On the run from a possessive king, she finds herself answering a call from an old friend she’s vowed never to forgive. The worst part? He doesn’t even realize what he’s done to her. In an unfortunate turn of events, the man she hates is the man she’s safest with now. And as she realizes the alliance he’s trying to build for his king, she starts to see Bron clearly for the first time. He’s no pushover, and he’d not the crow boy she remembers. Now he’s a man whose been betrayed, and destroyed, and has reinvented himself into one of the most relentless War Birds in existence. Heaven help anyone who comes for his king now. Bron’s loyalty knows no bounds, and that is made even clearer when she understands what he’s really doing for her.

The Oath of Bane isn’t over.
The Monsters are coming.
The old Murder is dead.
Long live the new Crew.

A Stunning, Haunting Continuation of The Oath of Bane Saga...

T.S. Joyce’s “The Oath of Bane” series has not only become my favorite shifter series of 2021, but of all time! Each book has been better than the last and this one, Joyce's fifth installment of the series is simply stunning!

Here in, “How It Will Be”, we get the poignant, almost reverent story of Bron and Ren. Bron being the powerful war bird, once third in command and wholly loyal to King Krome, a man we saw betrayed in a most brutal way possible in the last book. A betrayal that leaves him broken in ways he will never come back from. But a betrayal that also leaves him more determined then ever to help rebuild the murder into something new. A task he turns to Ren for help with. Ren, the childhood friend lost to him long ago. A women adrift with no real home, who now trades information for cash in order to stay one step ahead of those who hunt her. A women with as many emotional scars as Bron has physical ones.

What follows is a tale I found to be beautifully subtle, almost haunting in tone. A story full of quieter emotional battles than the previous books. As it is here with Bron and Ren, which we begin to understand the true nature of the Crow Blooded people in general. Where through the lens of their shared childhood and the many betrayals contained within for them both we begin to see the larger traumas taking place.

And as they work through all that has caused them harm and help Krome build their new murder, we begin to get tiny glimpses of the new world Krome, Bron, the Bears, and their respective mates are building for their newly embraced futures. And through these glimpses we are given a precious flicker of what their lives could be without the ever constant threat of annihilation present because of the prophecy to end the bear shifters line put in place so many generations before their own.

However, the drum of war still looms, beating a loud and powerful rhythm, keeping time for the larger battle still to come with the other Crow Blooded murders still at large. And as the events put into motion so long ago begin to threaten their new reality, they will create something never before witnessed by any of their kind.

Bron and Ren's installment is an extraordinary addition to an already extraordinary series. A tale so riveting it will completely enthrall you and leave you begging for more.

As I have stated in some of my other reviews for this series, never before have I been so thoroughly entranced by a shifter saga.  I am almost rabid with need for the next clue, the next peak behind the curtain of how and why this prophecy strangled universe came to be and how Krome, Bron, the Bears, and all their women, are changing the face of all they are and will be.

It is a gorgeous story world. With an equally bewitching level of character development and emotional depth. And I simply cannot wait for the next installment!!

Now, for Bron’s story, book 5 in the Oath of Bane series, we have a romance with lots of giggles, heavy sighs, some moans, sad and happy tears, and LOVE.

Crow Blooded Bron is dead.... Until he sees Ren again then life comes back.... She's Laken's sister, Laken his supposed best friend who dropped him to his death, only he's still very much alive and more so now that she's back in his life.... He always had something for her, but now she's a knockout.

Ren hates him, Bron that is, because he never bothered to check up on her all those years she was away.
But when she finds out her evil brother never gave him her letters and what he did to his best friend, it's all a different story and her childhood crush has grown into a hot man and her crush is even bigger.

Krome King of the Crow Blooded, his 2nd Bron and the Bane Brothers have decided to form a whole new crew not of War Birds, but of loyal members and what a motley crew it will be with all kinds of shifters in their ranks. All that is required of them is loyalty.

Brava Ms. Joyce!

GIMME NUKE'S STORY

I've had a weird relationship with this series. I love everything Joyce writes, and I've liked all the books in this series, but the bears never super-wowed me. Idk, it was like after Battle Of The Bulls, I didn't want to go back to boring ole bears. And the crows? Again, I liked each book individually, but honestly, when I got the email for this book, I had a very meh reaction.

I am dumb. This book was great. The shenanigans came in the form of beer pong. There are new crew mates in a variety of species. There is Nuke, who I'm already in love with. Also a bald eagle who is apparently the scariest thing ever. Let's keep this ball rolling!

She's done it again folks.

There's a new C-Team in town. The Crew grows and things get a little more crazy. But it's always the food crazy. While this book isn't as deep as some is the others it's 100% classic T. S. Joyce and I loved every minute. My original 1-click author stuns everytime.

Another more serious one with some splashes of humor from Gwen. Krome and Bron are setting up a new murder and Bron's first call is to Ren who is a professional gossip spreader. And a rare female Crow. She has a tragic past that she and Bron work through to find their HEA.

Not sure where these are going now, other than peace and harmony between the shifter species. I have to say the book with Moore was my favorite as the funniest. Nuke is next :)

How It Will Be

How It Will Be by T. S. Joyce was a stunning book! I enjoyed it so much. I read these in order and the last was as good as the first in the series. This one had a strong heroine and the hero, Bron was the best.

Like with other reviewers, I was a bit surprised this book was so short, and so under developed. You begin thinking this book is about Bron, but it almost immediately becomes about Ren and her difficulties as a rare, female Crow Shifter. I would have thought more time would be spent on the dynamic, creation and new members of Krome's Murder in order to gain some momentum for future books.
The ending seemed rushed and anti climatic. One of the only good things about the ending was knowing that Nuke would be getting his own book.
At the price of the book, I still think this author's work is worth your time and $$.

Building Loyalty!!!

Bron was the third to the King of the Crow Blooded, Krome ( HOW IT IS ). But when the Second-in-command Lake tried a coup to take the throne from their King. He defended the man he'd come to respect as a brother. He got injured but it was worth it if it meant Krome wouldn't lose his throne nor his human mate, Cora.

There were only three Murder left and they needed more to survive cause that's the way of the Crow Blooded. So he did what he had to in order to get more Crows to join him and his King even if it meant hiring someone from his past. His childhood friend Ren who had a set of special skills.

She was no longer the little girl that used to follow him around now she was a strong, beautiful and fierce woman who had his heart racing from the moment he'd locked eyes with her. But he also knew that she was keeping something important from him, like why she hated him so much.

Lauren "Ren" Tobiad was Laken's sister and as a female Crow she had the power to draw in monsters. She was being hunted by a ruthless man (her former King). She ran the instant she received a call from the one man she said she would never forgive for what he did to her....Bron.

She wanted to know what would make a man like him and his King Krome allied themselves with the bears. As time passed Ren got to see a side of Bron that she never knew existed. She finally found out why the alliance with the Bane brothers was so important to the new Crow Blooded Crew.

Loved how she couldn't bring herself to hate Bron in her heart no matter how mad and betrayed she felt. When all was said and done, they both found out that a third party was playing with their lives. Yet they didn't let the past nor the present prevent them from having the future they wanted.

The new Murder Crew was build with some royal and different people. Can't wait for what comes next for this new crew.

HOW IT WILL BE is the fifth novella in T. S. Joyce's OATH OF BANE series. Ooh la la this series is getting better and better with each new book. T. S. Joyce had me on the edge of my seat. Phenomenal job! 5🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was the first book in this series that made me shed a few tears.

How It Will Be is about Bron the only remaining loyal member of the previous murder Krome was King of, and as he proved his loyalty he has now been given the position of second in the new murder.

Bron wasn’t the same person he was in Krome’s book, and for very good reason being betrayed by those he thought he could trust does something to change the fiber of your being.

Ren is a blast from Bron’s past that he reaches out to for a favor, but when he and his childhood friend are face to face for the first time in years they have a spark of something much deeper than friendship.

This was a quick read, but T.S. Joyce has a knack for delivering a novella that can pack a punch. Her characters are always easy to relate to, which sounds insane because they are more than like shifters, but it’s the background of the characters who all have a past that has broken parts of who they were, and that is something I can easily relate to.

A perfect blend of witty banter, laugh out loud crew shenanigans, a touch of feels, and steam.

This is the fifth book in the series. What started out as the Crow people against the bears has changed dramatically. Now Bron and Krom, his king have made an alliance with the bears and their mates. Bron and Krom are looking to build their murder or maybe they are really looking to make a crew. They know just who can help them. Ren is known for spreading rumors through the murders. She has been a part of so many now. She knows just who to talk to to get messages where they need to go. Ren has a story of her own. She may have grown up with Bron but so much has happened since they last saw each other. Can Ren and Bron help each other in more ways than they first thought? Ren is tired of running and she feels at home with Bron and the crew he is starting to make. Ren is on the run and the person isn’t just going to let her go. Will Bron and his crew be able to help her and give her what she has been looking for? I am loving the turn in the series. I can’t wait to see what happens with the crew. The members are all so different yet the same. Congrats on another fantastic book T.S. Joyce. Her books are a must read for me and I don’t even read the blurb anymore.

I love how this story is ever changing. It makes it more difficult to figure out because I am never sure who will or won’t survive (other than the MC or past characters). What a different concept for this author. This series sure has taken a different path and that is what add to making this a wonderful story.

This is Bron’s story. We learn more about him and Ren, who is Larkin’s sister.!. Each is harboring resentment from the past. Bron is giving his new position his all. Ren has become a legend in the Murder world. But not the kind of legend she would like to be. Ren is a deeper character. She has a lot of emotions that run rampant through her and then to us(the reader). She is so kind to Bron and the way he asks her to stay that first night? My heart went pitter patter and I could feel their attraction to each other.

I was glad to see Bron’s survival and new attitude. I am curious who and what all the new member of the crew are. It was delightful to see everyone from past books.

A really good short read

As with all of T.S. Joyce's books I absolutely loved it! Ren tells her story about how she has grown through all of her hardships and how her past makes her a perfect fit to be with Bron as he helps Krome rebuild their Murder.
My only complaint, and this has been my complaint for a lot of her most recent books, is that it is so short. I would love for the books to be longer so that we can REALLY get to know the characters. I feel like we are introduced to them, get told what problem they are facing that is keeping them apart, and then maybe 20 pages later the problem is getting fixed and it's happily ever after.
But even though I say all of that, I will ALWAYS be looking for her post saying that she has released another book so I can squeal like a little girl and race to kindle so that I can read her most recent book. Ms. Joyce is one of the BEST story tellers I've ever had the pleasure of discovering.

Another awesome book

The crows in this Murder have won my heart. Kromme and Bron almost died when the members turned on them and now they are forming a new Murder. Only this time it's like nothing that's been seen before. They have an alliance with the bears and the new members of their crew are crows and shifters. Ren and Bron knew each other as children. Her brother was Bron's best friend until he tried to kill him. She's a rare female crow shifter who's been passed from one Murder to another. She escaped the cruelty of the King in the last Murder and has vowed to remain on her own. Until she hooks back up with Bron and finds he's a totally different person. He's powerful and makes it clear she's safe with him. The story has amazing characters and you get drawn into their emotions. I love this series.

How It Will Be

I'm thoroughly enjoying how this crew is shaping up. My favorite lines in this book were this part by the MFC,

“That’s war,” Manning snapped. “Your friends started a war—”
“Existing does not start a war! That’s all they’re doing. They’re not aiming for anyone or seeking any type of vengeance. They were just trying to live.”

I loved this whole point about minding your own business. Leave other people alone. You can't blame people for things they haven't done, just because you think they might.

I also really appreciate not having to read about long drawn out fight scenes. And thank you author for not having her run away. Crews are always stronger when they work together.

“It's me and you now. We fight together. Your loose ends from your old life are my loose ends now too.”

What happens to you happens to me.

She has done it agaiiiiiiin!!!!!

I love Ren and Brons story. lots of action and romance and the Bane brothers make an apperance as well. Ren is running from a Murder who is led by a nutbag when she hears from Bron a childhood friend, from there poop hits the fan and someone maybe falls in love .... or not. you will just have to read it to find out the good, the bad and the fugly. Cause gods knows the bad guy is a weinnie. Ms. Joyce hits it out of the field with this one just like her others. i wish though that they would bring Beasten and a few of the others in this series so the Banes and the Murder dont freakout about the Bane brothers being the only bear shifters. Bring em together Ms Joyce i know you can. Besides we all miss Willa.

ARGH!!!! Why NOVELLAS???? I want more of just about everything in this story. The crew try-outs...MORE. More ramp-up with Bron and Ren. More confrontation with Manning. More of the big battle (because I think the close-up snark of that would have been hilarious and character revealing). I know there were choices to be made and life is life, but MAN....there was just more story here and that I'm just DYING to know. I'm guessing that will come out as the crew grows. I can't wait.

Obviously, I loved the book! I want more! LOL. PERHAPS....Nuke's book will be like Wes' book and we'll get the TOME of all tomes. LOL. Nuke has a story for sure, but I'm looking forward to the Clinton of the group, Mr. Famous Amos.

This book follows Ren, a crow blooded female and Bron , Krome’s second. Read this series in order so you can see where and how the story and the foundation of this series evolves. I enjoyed meeting and watching Ren and Bron becoming mates. Bron was best friends with Ren’s brother, who was second in Krome’s murder until he tried to backstab him. Bron, always loyal, tried to help Krome and got hurt in the process. Then they had to rebuild the murder and what a fun amusing story from that standpoint.

Ren has a difficult past to overcome and I loved how well TS Joyce made the couple a team, rather than introducing an issue that tore their bond apart. Overall, well paced and enjoyable and I’m excited to see how the rest of the stories go!

Bron survived and thrived after his best friend, Laken, left him for dead when he wouldn’t participate in a thwarted coup. With only his king, Chrome, Chrome’s human mate, Nora and Bron in the murder, Bron had to do some quick work especially since they’d allied with the Bane brothers. Looking for help and solutions, Bron contacts Laken’s sister, Ren.

Having been friends when they were children, Bron and Ren had a wealth of shared knowledge plus a mix of memories, pain and joy. They found things the other didn’t know as the root of their problems. Ren used her knowledge of other murders to get potential pledges present for tryouts but she had the king of a murder on her back who wanted something she had. But Bron has a solution for that.

Short and enjoyable.
Liked Bron and Lauren/Ren together as a couple. Sweet that they were childhood friends through nasty Laken and that their past hardships have moulded them into strong characters.
Loved that Bron was her safe shelter.
Glad she didn’t take off and do something stupid but not sure I trust Manning.
I would have liked to have been in on the planning and enactment side of the plot though.
We just get told third party style which was a bit abbreviated.
Don’t get a feel for the new crew, except Nuke. Interestingly he has a dragon vibe about him rather than big cat. Will wait and see if he gets his story told.
Read through Kindle Unlimited.

Great novella. Loved it!

Another great book by TS Joyce. She is such a fantastic writer. I really liked Ren and Bron. They are childhood friends who lost touch. There were misunderstandings and secrets that were revealed. We get to see Krome and Bron add more people to their crew as they prepare for battle heading their way. There were so many heartfelt moments that brought out the feels. No angst or drama. New characters are introduced. Old characters like the bears and their mates return.
This is great and I can see me reading this again. I recommend this book and series.

Excellent read about crows, bears creating a crew

It's very difficult for me to explain how much I enjoy her books. They quick easy read that leaves you a little lighter at the end. Her books tend to hit right in the heart and make you feel. They are fun and charming yet hilarious with action and steam.
I truly enjoyed Bron and Ren sweet heartfelt romance. Old friends, a little bit of enemies turn in to lovers, mates. A happy ever after.
Looking forward to next book Nuke now that one is gonna be interesting

T, you never cease to amaze me!

Loved Bron and Ren's story! Kinda reminded me of my own story with my husband...Childhood best friends to one day looking at them in a totally new light to marriage and kids. Its really brought a lot of good memories back to mind for me! That's what i love about T's writing though. Shes so down to earth, and besides the turning into animals thingy, her stories are of everyday people and everyday lives. She makes you appreciate and see the good in the small things in life! Beautiful story!
