Mycroft & Greg barely know each other - so John Watson has always believed. When he witnesses a surprising moment of care between them, John starts to wonder if there's more going on than meets the eye. Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade Sherlock Holmes/John Watson John Watson/Mary Watson 66,648 words
I can't praise this Mystrade+ story without at least vague SPOILERS, so take that as a warning.
Mottlemoth has come up with a selective, partly-AU version of Mary who makes warm, happy endings all around possible, and despite true-to-character painful moments in both pairings that had me wiping my eyes, they're not drawn out excessively, but resolved naturally, with brave honesty and caring.
Most of the things that soured me so on post-return canon simply never happened in this 'verse, starting with Mary shooting Sherlock, so I guess that makes it a fixit.
Btw, the Johnlock side of things doesn't get explicit in this story, and the Mystrade sexual content isn't the main emphasis either; this is more about emotions and insights.
P.S., I tend to forget to add the British English shelf even when it applies (since I read either spelling with equal ease, having grown up in America but reading Christie & co.), and only remembered this time chiefly because I had to look up what "chocolate bourbons" (cookies, oh, pardon, biscuits) and "NikNaks" (like crunchy Cheetos) are. 🤷
