Two sisters, one long-ago murder, and a web of terrifying secrets collide in a gripping standalone thriller from acclaimed author Edwin Hill . . .

At first glance, Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott hardly look like sisters. Even off-duty, Natalie dresses like a Boston cop, preferring practical clothes and unfussy, pinned-up hair. Her younger sister, Glenn, seems tailor-made for the spotlight, from her signature red mane to her camera-ready smile. Glenn has spent years cultivating her brand through her baking blog, and with the publication of her new book, that hard work seems about to pay off. But her fans have no idea about the nightmare in Glenn and Natalie’s past.

Twenty years ago, their father’s body was discovered in the woods behind their house. A trauma like that doesn’t fit with Glenn’s public image. Yet, maybe someone reading her blog does know something. There have been anonymous online messages, vague yet ominous, hinting that she’s being watched. And with unsettling coincidences hitting ever closer to home, both Glenn and Natalie soon have more pressing matters to worry about, especially when a dead body is found in an abandoned building . . .

Natalie is starting to wonder how much Glenn really knows about the people closest to her. But are there also secrets Natalie has yet to uncover about those she herself trusts? For two decades, she’s believed their father was murdered by their neighbor, with whom he was having an affair. But if those events are connected to what’s happening now, maybe there’s much more that Natalie doesn’t know. About their father. About their neighbors. About her friends. Maybe even about herself.

But there are no secrets between sisters . . . are there?

Wow! This is absolutely one of the greatest binge- reading experiences I just had, accompanied with popcorn and seltzer! Absolutely one sit read you cannot able to put it down! There are too many coincidences in this book but thankfully all of them are necessary to complete the whole puzzle!

Murders from past and present perfectly are connected and so many twists are well formed! Some of them are easy to foresee and but some of them are truly shocking!

In 1995: Nathalie( 14) and Glenn Cavanaugh ( 12) shared a life changing tragedy: somebody bashed their abusive father’s head with a rock and their mother was person of interest till they found out their dear neighbor at next door who had a secret affair with their father killed him and committed suicide before she got arrested!

In the present time, Nathalie in 42, struggling detective with alcohol problem, suffering from loneliness, self sabotaging her happiness as Glenn married with Jack Abbott a decade younger than her, a popular baking blogger, working on her promotion company of her debut book, raising her 12 years old kid Mavis ( my favorite character of the book: extremely mature, smart, tough kid)

When Mavis takes a dare to intrude into an eerie empty building where the rats are having a garden party, but instead of bumping into drug addicts and homeless people who may use this place as a shelter, she finds a dead body, running out of the place, screaming at the top of her lungs! This is just the beginning of a serious of ominous incidents that rock both sisters’ lives connected with the deaths haunting their pasts!

Why Glenn’s husband Jack acts so suspiciously? What’s his connection with their new tenant crushing at their cottage? Why a mysterious realtor lurks around Glenn’s house?

There are so many questions and secrets the characters keep from each other! This is definitely fun and wild ride I highly recommend! Fast, intriguing, gripping, deliciously twisty!

I'll just say that I'm very proud of this one. It's my first standalone, and I wrote it during the pandemic and what hasn't been challenging during the pandemic?

I hope you enjoy reading it!

Natalie and Glenn are sisters whose father was murdered 20 years ago. There were several suspects, but no one was ever arrested for the crime. Natalie is an unmarried cop, while Glenn is an ambitious internet celebrity who is unhappily married and has a young daughter. When Natalie and her partner are called to a murder scene, Natalie realizes that this crime is a little too close to home.

This was a very readable thriller/police procedural. There are a lot of twists, and also a lot of red herrings. As the body count increases, nearly every character in the book is either a murder victim, a murderer or a suspect in a murder. Hannah Cabell did a good job narrating the audiobook.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publisher.

Well played, Edwin Hill! This book came out of nowhere and totally blew me away!

The blurb didn't initially grab me - "Two sisters, one long-ago murder, and a web of terrifying secrets collide in a gripping thriller." Although it sounds like the theme of a hundred other books, from the first chapter, I could tell this wasn't your run-of-the-mill thriller. A body is found in an abandoned building and the coincidences begin piling up. The body is discovered by a 12-year-old girl, who just so happens to be the daughter of a famous blogger, Glenn; whose sister, Natalie, just happens to be the investigating detective; the wallet found near the body just so happens to be a friend of Glenn's husband and a former friends-with-benefits of Natalie. And then add in a twist that Natalie and Glenn's father was murdered twenty years earlier by their neighbor, with whom he was having an affair, only to have the neighbor kill herself shortly after. It soon becomes abundantly obvious that the murder of their father isn't as dead and buried in the past as they thought, and all of their secrets are about to come to light in the present.

It is such a wickedly twisted tale. At first I thought the coincidences were a bit much, and I was ready to blast the plot as overdone; but then it all just worked somehow. For the most part, the coincidences actually made sense and fell into place beautifully. It kept me guessing until the very end, and there is a twist that had me re-reading the page several times to make sure I had read it correctly - I even went back to earlier parts of the book to see if I should have caught on earlier. Very well executed twist! Were a few parts a bit of a stretch? Yes. Did they take away from my overall enjoyment of the book? Absolutely not.

This book has a little bit of everything - murder, suspense, domestic drama, police procedural, characters to root for, and a few wild twists. 4 stars!

Very entertaining… the twists just kept coming!

Nothing in this is what it seems. Perfectly placed ‘gottcha’ moments that kept the story moving forward at a fast pace. Right when I thought I had it figured out I was proven wrong time and time again. Lots going on, but the past/present are woven together seamlessly.

Bravo, Mr. Hill on a masterfully crafted thriller. Highly recommend.

Genre: Mystery Thriller

Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters. Natalie is a detective while Glenn is a blogger and is preparing to publish a new book. Twenty years ago Natalie discovered her father’s body in the woods. The killer has not been caught. But their father was not a faithful husband to their mother. He was in an affair with their neighbor Diane Sykes who commits suicide right after Natalie’s father is found dead. Now it is the present and things are not going right. Past secrets and present worries and fears will all turn into a big turmoil for the members of this family.

The book has two timelines, past (the 1990s) and present. However, the part about the past is not that big compared to the present so there will be no confusion in case you are worried about reading a story with two timelines. You are not going to mix up things. This story was like a rollercoaster in terms of events and twists. There are many twists. The characters are not that honest. I felt the plot dragged in some parts but very soon something happens and as a reader, you move on. It is an amusing mystery thriller with lots of action. However, my main issue with it is the believability factor. At times the events were going over the top making it hard for me to digest certain things. I don’t want to reveal more because this is a thriller and nothing should be spoiled. Overall, it is a fun story and you will enjoy it if you are ready to ignore the parts that are unplausible.

Many thanks to the publisher Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book.

This is a Crime Thriller. I had very high hopes for this book because of all the reviews I have read. I read over a hundred pages of this book before DNFing this book. The way this book was told I found it hard to really get to how the characters, and I also did not felt anything for any of the characters. There was a lot going, but I just could not make myself follow the mystery/everything that was going on. I think the writing style was just not for me. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Secrets from the past complicate everything.

“The Secrets We Share” is the story of two sisters, so different and yet so much alike. Sisters do not have secrets from each other … do they? Natalie is a police officer; it is her job to know everyone and everything. Glenn has a book about to be released; she is a social influencer and has the very public face and a very private family. Mistakes are made, and everyday life becomes problematic.

This is also the story of murder, a murder in the present that complicates life, and a murder in the past that seeps into the present. The narrative goes back and forth in time to fill in details, but that past that no one wants to relive has significance in the present. The sisters have secrets, deep secrets, secrets that might get them killed. Then, there is another murder. Are they connected? Who connects them? This is a small town, and everyone knows everything about everyone – they think. Sometimes people are not who they seem to be, and surprises are hiding in plain sight.

I received an audio review copy of “The Secrets We Share” from Edwin Hill, Hannah Cabell, RB Media, and Recorded Books. Caball’s narrative is multi-dimensional, at times pleasing, supportive, and matter of fact, while at other times cautionary, unsettling and shocking. There is urgency in the narration, a tone of anticipation and yet dread of what is to come. The story is gripping and filled with complex family entanglements both in the present and in the past.

Okay Edwin Hill, I don't know where you have been hiding, but I'm happy I found you! The Secrets We Share was an instant #BookstagramMadeMeDoIt situation after I saw a bunch of great reviews, and I was thrilled to actually get the audiobook from the library right when it came out. After finishing, I am an instant fan of Hill's storytelling abilities and his knack for crafting plots with spine-tingling twists (I can't imagine his talent only lies in this one book). There were quite a few things I didn't see coming, and there was quite a bit going on so at times it was a tiny bit hard for me to follow on audio. I still powered through and as I learned more and more about the characters, it wasn't so hard to grasp. At first, I got a little caught up on the word "said" being used so much, but as the story progressed I either stopped noticing it or it got better and either way, I am glad.

I am completely obsessed with the cover of The Secrets We Share, and I could totally see this being a book that I would buy and do a reread of later. When I looked at the synopsis on Goodreads, the first thing I spotted was the phrase "A mesmerizing, twisty suspense novel perfect for fans of Mary Kubica and Riley Sager..." and I definitely agree with this statement on multiple levels. I am a huge fan of both Kubica and Sager, and this has so many twists which I loved. The audiobook for this one was great as well and narrated by Hannah Cabell who did a great job. The Secrets We Share starts out with a pretty quick pace, and even though it wasn't breakneck speed fast, it was still pretty pacy and very readable. It does go a little dark, but nowhere near as dark as Karin Slaughter goes, so if you are on the squeamish side, you should still be ok to read this. It has its moments, but I didn't think it was too detailed overall, and Hill gives you just enough without going overboard. Instant fan here (can't help but repeat that) and I cannot WAIT to read another book by this author!

I really liked the audiobook and loved the narrator. The story was right up my alley and I couldn’t wait to hear how it ended!

Sisters Natalie and Glenn could not be more different. Natalie is the logical, practical one. Glenn is focused on her baking blog which seems to be taking off. However, the pair is hiding a chilling secret.

Twenty years ago sisters Glenn Natalie’s father was found murdered in the woods near their house. Now, an anonymous person is sending Glenn messages saying she’s being watched. When another dead body is found they begin to worry.

Natalie always believed that her father was murdered by a neighbor whom he was having an affair. She begins to question everything she’s been told as well as the people in her life including her sister. What really happened that night? Who can she trust?

Thank you to Netgalley and RB Media for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I have enjoyed Edwin Hill before and he did not disappoint (except by calling this a standalone, I would like to see more of Natalie the detective even if I understand why this is her only story). I love reading about Boston as I lived there for a time and I definitely could see the city as I read this book. Natalie and Glenn are sisters but they could not be more different. Natalie is a detective with Boston PD and Glenn is a food blogger with a book coming out soon. When they were young their father was murdered and the case wasn’t really solved. One day on her way to school Glenn’s daughter Mavis is dared to enter an abandoned building and finds a dead body. One coincidence after another makes it clear that Natalie and Glenn’s family is being targeted and someone has not left the past in the past like they have.

Sisters Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott appear quite different on the surface. Natalie is a tough Boston cop with a bit of a drinking problem, while Glenn runs a popular baking blog and is about to publish a new book. But Natalie and Glenn share a secret--twenty years ago, their abusive father's body was found in the woods behind their home. For a while, their mother was suspected of his murder, but eventually a neighbor was arrested after the discovery she was having an affair with their father. Now Glenn is getting threatening messages on her blog hinting at the sisters' past. And soon a dead body is found in an abandoned building, with ties to a holiday party held at Glenn's home. Natalie is worried her sister is hiding things from her, and Glenn fears her carefully constructed face is about to fall apart.

I loved this book! It's an absolutely excellent well-plotted mystery. Hill is superb at writing damaged yet likable characters, and there are plenty in this book! The story keeps you guessing the entire time. I could not put this one down. It's so twisty and easy to read.

In SECRETS, the murder of Glenn and Natalie's father is tied to deaths in the present, cultivating a well-done story. For Hill fans, you'll see a brief, but key, appearance from Hester Thursby and Angela White plays a pretty strong role in the book too. I could totally see Natalie as a reoccurring character--she's prickly and dark, but a good detective and an intriguing protagonist.

I definitely recommend this one and Hill's Hester Thursby series as well! 4.5 stars.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

My thanks to Kensington Books, as well as to @NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of The Secrets We Share.

Although Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters, they couldn't be less alike. Natalie is a cop with alcohol and commitment issues. Glenn is a popular food blogger with husband issues. They are both still deeply affected by the murder of their father twenty years ago, although they try to keep that fact hidden from each other and the outside world. Through a series of current incidents, the women are drawn back into their shared past. If the past murder is connected to the current murders, maybe there’s much more to know!

This book grabbed me from the beginning! It's a stand-alone from the author's Hester Thereby novels, and I must admit to now wanting to read that series! I loved Hester and her family in The Secrets We Share, although they weren't primary characters. My FAVORITE character, hands down, was Glenn's daughter, Mavis. She's an interesting adolescent who is addicted to detective shows - plus she has watched every episode of CSI Miami ever made. 😀

In all honesty, I had some difficulty keeping all of the characters straight. There were a lot of them, combined with a couple of name changes. I found myself wishing I had taken notes, starting from the beginning of the book! (Maybe I'm just old, haha.) I also have to say I didn't see the conclusion of the book coming!! Wow!

Two big "secret shares" about "The Secrets We Share":

1) The biggest "secret" about "The Secrets We Share" is that the book is really a "YA" book.

One of the key protagonists is a 12-year old girl and throughout the entire book, I felt like the author's tone was geared towards teen girls and not adults.

This being said, this book is a fabulous book for YAs and for adults who enjoy YA novels.

Had I known that this book was a YA book, I never would have selected the book to read and review.

2) Another "secret" about "The Secrets We Share" is that it was "same old, same old".

I am a huge fan of "fresh content" and I was not reading anything "new and different" in this book. In fact, I recently read three books with similar "surprise" endings, so instead of being surprised, I was disappointed and underwhelmed.

In addition to being a compelling book for fans of YA fiction, this book would also be a top choice introductory novel for someone who has never read a psychological thriller.

I listened to the audiobook and although narrator Hannah Cabell did a superb job, the book featured multiple protagonists and would have benefited from full-cast audio.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A very convoluted story about revenge. Some parts were downright absurd (silly) and unbelievable.

It was compelling so 3⭐️ there but I have to sit with this book for a bit. Rating could drop down due to the overly complicated plot devised to misdirect (it’s this plot that was good then became laughable and groan worthy).

——- edit——-

I’m taking it down to two stars. Why? Because when I found myself trying to recap it to my husband and I actually listened to myself tell the synopsis with plot points, the outlandish story tripped on itself.

Allow me to recap the story without spoilers. *There will be spoilers below but I will give fair warning before delving into them.

Here it goes:

Two sisters, while kids, lived next door to one other family—a mom with two girls. After some oddly eluded to violence (seriously wtf was up with the dad?) the sisters discover said dad is dead.

Did their mom kill their father? Or does Glenn (one of the sisters) have a secret? Also the mistress from next door turns up dead? Who killed the neighbor mom!?

Fast forward to present day: Glenn is a blogger and her sister Natalie is a police detective. Glenn gets some disturbing new emails and shows her big sis—the cop—the messages. They elude to someone knowing what she did. Glenn thinks her secret about her dad’s murder is known.

Later more murders surround Glenn and Natalie and her hot male partner investigate.

How unlucky is this family to have that much death surround them? What are the secrets Glenn is hiding (mock gasp)? Why doesn’t Perez (Natalie’s partner) not return her advances?

Stay tuned.

‼️Spoilers below. ‼️I will retell it as I told hub. Do NOT keep reading if you don’t want the whole damn thing ruined for you.

——

It turns out the neighbors from next door (the one whose mom was blamed for having an affair with the sister’s dad) want revenge. Well, one does.

The older sister changes her name and becomes a realtor. She also— later on in life—became romantically involved with the sister’s mom. (Pursed lips…nodding). So yeah. There’s that. But her little sister is now her little brother. And the little brother wants blood!

He now wants to get even with—particularly Glenn—for lying about his mom’s affair with the dad. **try to stay with me.

His mom never boinked the dad from next door, and he knows this…because it was his older sister (the now realtor) who did and guess what? She got pregnant with his baby. So yeah..the older sister from next door boinked the neighbor’s dad, got pregnant with his baby, and later fell in love with the WIFE of the FATHER of her child. 🤣

I’m laughing.

But wait there’s more…

So the sister-now-brother wants the girls from next door to pay because his mom was murdered for the lie they told. So …he joins the police and becomes…

WAIT FOR IT…

Natalie’s hot police partner Perez!

I can’t folks. They gymnastics the author had to do to pull the reader’s wool over their eyes was too much.

Silly silly silly.

This book was twisty and moved at a fast clip, but the story itself was a little ridiculous. It is centered on sisters Natalie and Glenn whose dad was murdered when they were kids; now weird things are happening that make it clear that someone knows the secrets they buried all those years ago.

The book is action packed and there is a lot happening. There are multiple surprise twists throughout. The thing that got me was that some of the plot twists required me to majorly suspend my disbelief, and I felt like the author sometimes tried too hard for the shock factor. I also couldn’t get past the fact that Natalie was so involved in the case that centered around her own family; there is no way a real police force would let that happen.

Overall, definitely a fun read but was just a little out there for me. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Natalie is a 42 year old detective with the Boston police department. Her younger sister Glenn runs a baking blog and her career is taking off with a new book. Glenn hasn't told Natalie yet that someone has been posting to her blog comments like "I'm watching you" and "I know what you did". Back in 1995, their father was murdered and the assumption was their mother or the next door neighbor lady committed the crime. Now, Glenn's daughter finds a body in an old abandoned building.

I liked the cover and I liked the book. Once the twists started, they just kept on coming. As I am the lady who loves twists, I ate it up. I was impressed with Natalie's boss, Lieutenant Angela White, because I don't normally read books where the boss is out investigating hard too. I haven't read any previous books by this author but now I'm going to have to find some to see if others are good.

Edwin Hill what a great book. What a twisty thriller. The characters are all portrayed realistically. The pluses are The Secrets We Share is a unpredictable novel that will hold your attention and keep you guessing throughout.

Sisters Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are very different from each other but they share a traumatic past. In 1995 when they were 14 and 12 their father was murdered. The two have moved on now and don't discuss it. Natalie is a police detective who drinks too much. Glenn is a food blogger who is about to release her first book. When Glenn's daughter 12-year-old daughter, Mavis, discovers a body in an abandoned building near her school, the two sisters are pulled into another murder investigation, but this time the questions and new information keep piling up and pretty almost everyone is a suspect. This is a real page turner that you will enjoy. Edwin Hill keeps the words and the plot flowing. Highly recommend.

Sisters can share the same family but grow up to be entirely different adults. Natalie Cavanaugh seems like a strait-laced member of the Boston PD, conservative in her dress and manner, while her sister, Glenn Abbott, is a flashy redhead always ready for the spotlight, running a successful baking blog and soon to be a first-time author. No one suspects that twenty years ago, their father's life ended as he was discovered dead in the woods behind their home. It's a secret they have shared for years thinking that their neighbor who the dad was having an affair with was the murderer.

Things change when Glenn starts getting messages that are frightening on her blog, and the girls realize that perhaps someone knows something they thought was hidden. Spearheaded by Glenn's daughter finding a dead body in an abandoned building, the sisters are on track to a mystery, that is filled with suspense, and secrets that are waiting to be reveled.

This certainly was a twisty thriller. Just when you thought you had pinned things done, the author threw a curve ball and you were once again traveling down a mysterious road. There were some things that were indeed a bit OTT but overall, this was a well done story that kept me listening for hours.

Thank you to Edwin Hill, and narrated by Hannah Cabell. This is a tale that readers who enjoy thrillers will be sure to like. Another thanks goes to NetGalley for an early audiobook that kept me quite interested and intrigued. This story is due to be published on April 29, 2022.

I was lucky enough to read an early copy of Hill's latest, and think it's his best work yet. Moving beyond the the excellent Hester Thursby novels, Hill slides smoothly into a work that is ambitious and rewarding. Deftly navigating a large cast with multiple, distinctive POV characters, Hill crafts a tale of damaged families managing imperfect relationships as the seams holding them together began to fray.

This one's a drum-tight mystery, too, with some excellent procedural elements, and makes excellent use of a genre trope that has, I feel, been done elsewhere to far less effect. Boston, as in Little Comfort, also plays well. But where Hill really shines is in his characters.

A tremendous read, and one I look forward to reading again when it hits shelves.

2. Books that weave together past and present mysteries
3. Characters with unique jobs

Overall: This was an action-packed mystery, but it left me confused at times.

Detailed Review:

Uniqueness: 8/10

Plot: 8/10 Moving back and forth between locations in the same chapter without any **** breaks confused me as well.

Cover: 7/10

Atmosphere: 8/10 The author does a really good job using the senses especially smell to put you in the character's shoes.

Knowledge: 7/10 Some of the police attitudes/detective work seemed really unlikely.

The Secrets We Share by Edwin Hall. Thanks to @kensingtonbooks for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Natalie and Glenn don’t seem much like sisters. Natalie is a Boston cop and Glenn a baking influencer. They both have scandal in their past that comes back when a dead body is found in an abandoned warehouse.

I enjoyed the main character of this one and how we got a look at her life as a family member, and not just a detective. There were so many conflict of interests and her actions show none of us are perfect when family is involved. I wish I had gotten to know the secondary characters a little more. The two timelines worked well but I found myself more interested in the past.

The Secrets We Share comes out 3/29.

It’s not as easy to surprise thriller readers as it used to be. In the post-Gillian Flynn, Alex Michaelides, and Liane Moriarty era, writers have to work extra hard to come up fresh and shocking twists. Kudos to Edwin Hill for succeeding in a big way with his stunning standalone THE SECRETS WE SHARE.

All of Edwin’s characters have secrets, some of which date back to childhood. This book is a delicious combination of domestic thriller and police procedural with a dose of sibling drama, and it will transport you to an abandoned Boston warehouse, the suburbs in the ‘90s, and back again as Natalie Cavanaugh investigates a string of crimes that couldn’t be closer to home. (Fans of Edwin’s Hester Thursby series will love the cameos). You don't want to miss this one.

Who knew the Boston suburbs could be so dangerous? When police detective Natalie Cavanaugh learns that a body has been found in an abandoned warehouse, she’s shocked to learn that her 12-year-old niece, Mavis, is the one who found the murder victim. Mavis’s mother is Natalie’s sister, Glenn Abbott. The sisters are almost polar opposites. Natalie looks like a cop, even when out of uniform and off the job. Glenn is the perfectly coiffed and dressed suburban mom, working to break into the big time with a book based on her popular baking blog.

More threats and violence arrive quickly, and they make Natalie wonder if there is a connection to the past, in another nearby Boston suburb. Back when Glenn and Natalie were teens, their abusive father was murdered, and there are still questions and trauma arising from the crimes and its aftermath.

If, like me, you’re a fan of Edwin Hill’s Hester Thursby series, you should be aware that this is a standalone and not part of the series. But like the books in that series, this book puts as much emphasis on presenting characters you’ll care about—with all their flaws—as on the zippy plot. And you’ll actually get to see Hester in a cameo part, as well as a bit bigger role for one of the Hester Thursby series side characters, Detective Lieutenant Angela White.

This is a fast-paced suburban thriller with a sins-of-the-past element. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you on edge and guessing.

A bold, ambitious novel with a big, multigenerational story line, a busload of characters, and a smart balance between mystery and suspense.

Natalie Cavanaugh and Glenn Abbott are sisters, but not the least alike. Natalie is a tough-as-nails Boston cop, while Glenn is a food blogger and now a book author. What they have in common is what they never talk about: the murder of their father, who was bludgeoned to death in the woods behind their house. But through a series of incidents in Glenn’s life today, the women are drawn back into their shared past, and the story line opens up to include Glenn’s husband, her tween daughter, Natalie’s colleagues on the police force, and many more.

It’s remarkable that Hill can keep so many subplots afloat while at the same time creating such a level of suspense that the reader feels as though they are being catapulted to the knock-out conclusion. Hill is the author of the more cozy-ish Hester Thursby series, and librarian Hester makes a few delightful cameos in this book. Flawlessly written and seamlessly structured, THE SECRETS WE SHARE is my first but definitely not my last Edwin Hill novel. I fell head-first into this jaw-dropping, intricate mystery that weaves together past and present through the eyes of several fascinating characters. This suspense is not only twisty, compelling, and at times, devastating, but it's also an excellent police procedural with heart. I was hooked on every stunning word, unable to put the book down until the shocking, knock-out ending. A must-read for all thriller fans.

Everyone in this book had secrets and that kept me engrossed in the story up to a point. It was a fair thriller for me but I was just not involved enough in any of the characters. It is rare for me to stop in the middle of a thriller but this one got tedious and confusing with too many characters having too many secrets so I read two other books before I finally finished this one. I had read good reviews on this book but my expectations were just not met. A disappointment for me.
