From the first book in this wonderful series, I have enjoyed this vivacious Vicor Annabelle. Getting to go along in her adventures and see life through her eyes has been such a joy. So it was with bittersweetness that I started this final book in the series. By this book #8, we have seen the development of Inspector Mike Nicholes and Annabelle's relationship develop to their upcoming much-anticipated wedding. Yet many question whether Annabelle will go through with the wedding. I love the way Alison Golden has written this wedding and the use of the whole village. Every part of the story is perfect and reflects the true characters that Alison has created. I know that there will be no more books per se but I hope that Annabelle and Mike might make an appearance if Alison chooses to do a spinoff series. I would love a glimpse of their lives in the future.

This was a bittersweet read for me. For me I believe this book is my favorite in the series. I feel that Annabelle had become a well rounded complex character over the span of the series. Therefore I am sad to say goodbye to the series. However if a series has to end this book is a great example of how you should end it. Author Alison Golden did a fabulous and entertaining job writing this book. We get to say goodbye to all the favorite main and secondary characters and the secondary relationship storyline of Annabelle's relationship with Mike is wrapped up nicely with their wedding. The mystery is well-written and I was completely surprised at whodunit.

Witches at the Wedding marks my 4th read in the Reverend Annabelle Dixon Mystery Series and overall my 9th read (!) for Alison Golden. It is sadly the final book in this fun series.

As you can see Witches at the Wedding starts off strong with the third person view of Philipa, Annabelle's and the Upton St. Mary Church's cook.

In this final book in the Reverend Annabelle Dixon Mystery Series, Annabelle has accepted Inspector Mike Nicholls' marriage proposal and they're due to get married. In three days!

And if you're wondering if Annabelle manages to land herself in a mystery within those three days… then you're right! She does!

"It's a strange case. Nothing stolen. A victim who seemed to have had little contact with the outside world. And yet such a violent, grisly murder. It almost feels personal, intimate."

Unlike previous books, the murder in Witches at the Wedding is pretty gruesome. Though as cozy mysteries go, we don't see the murder itself. Phew!

Annabelle seems to be running away from the responsibilities of getting married – I mean who hasn't chosen their cake or tried on their dress three days before the wedding?! So when a mystery knocks on her door, Annabelle dives straight in.

"Oh it was never a question of trust, Annabelle," Mike said. "I always have faith" –he winked at her– "that you'll get yourself into trouble eventually."

There's lots hanging on this particular case. Inspector Mike Nicholls, Annabelle's husband-to-be, would get a promotion if he solves this case before his wedding day. And if the case is closed quickly, then Annabelle can get back to planning and going-on-with her wedding.

In their search for the killer, Annabelle and Nicholls come across a group of people – gypsies – living on the outskirts of the town. There, one of the women who is said to be a fortune teller, gives a reading to the couple, albeit separately, adding to the scary sense that Annabelle may not go forward with the wedding.

"You are a good, steadfast woman. There are dark forces at play. More than your people understand. These shadows are seeking, observing, and hiding in plain sight."

As always, Annabelle is funny but even more so is Philippa who is struggling to manage and prepare for the wedding.

I enjoyed this final conclusion to the Reverend Annabelle Dixon Mystery Series. Golden has a surprise and interesting ending so I'll leave it at that.

I find that Witches at the Wedding is a great conclusion to the series. Though I'd love to see more of the Annabelle-Nicholls couple having their own series again or making an appearance in another series by Golden.

Satisfying end to a delightful series

The Reverend Annabelle novels are among my favorite cozy mystery series. Annabelle stands out in a sea of the typical cookie cutter cozies both with her unusual occupation and her personality, which reminds me of Chummy on the Call the Midwife tv series. I really hate for this series to end. At least the wrap up was very fitting. There's also a hint of a crossover appearance in one of Golden's other series.

It is three days Reverend Annabelle and Inspector Mike Nicholls are scheduled to start the next stage of their lives following their wedding. Father John, Annabelle's mentor, is on his way to Upton St. Mary to perform the ceremony. Father John does not normally drive, which results in him getting lost. In his attempt to turn around, he backs into a barn and gets stuck. When he looks to see what the problem is, he discovers a dead body. Harper Jones, the local pathologist, is related to Kathleen Webster, the victim. As usual, Annabelle can't help but get involved, much to Philippa's dismay!

When Annabelle and Harper are looking through Kathleen's bedroom, they find an old journal/diary under the mattress. Annabelle has trouble reading the ancient text, but thinks Father John may be better able to understand the writing.

Who killed Kathleen? Why was she killed? Is the journal important to the case? If so, how? Can Mike and Annabelle solve the murder before their wedding? Or will their wedding have to be postponed?

Alison Golden has another fantastic mystery with this latest adventure. The combination of wonderful characters, great humor, and plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings makes for an enjoyable read that is hard to put down.

This series has memorable characters that feels like family that I always look forward to getting to meet again.

Annabelle and Mikes's wedding is closing in fast.

And poor Phillipa doesn’t know what’s going on with the Bride to Be.

She’s more interested in another murder than finalizing her wedding in less than a week's time.

Apparently, this book will close out the Reverend Anabelle Dixon Mystery series.

I’m really sad to see this series end as book one Death at the Café was my first mystery by author Alison Golden.

All of the books in this series can be read as standalone books.

Including the last two which cover the engagement and wedding.

This book is everything you would want it to be as the last in the Reverend Annabelle series. A culmination of all that is Annabelle. Fun, laughter, adventure, mystery and the very unique, generous and adorable thinking that is Annabelle. We've watched her grow into all she could be and I'm going to miss her.

Is Annabelle Getting Married?

I’m not sure. Annabelle and Mike are supposed to be married in a few days. Her mentor, Father John, is en route as is her lifelong friend Mary who is now married and about to give birth at any minute.

Philippa is “Philipping out” due to Annabelle’s apparent complete disinterest in preparing for her nuptials. She won’t try on her wedding dress one last time in case it needs any last minute alterations. (Philippa thinks the pastries Annabelle consumes might result in some necessary modifications.) Annabelle also shows no interest in the menu, the pastries, the venue or anything to do with the wedding.

THEN! A body is found. Inspector Mike Nicholls - Annabelle’s supposed husband to be- is in charge of the investigation.

Annabelle is, naturally, more interested in the murder than anything else. Phillipa is at wit’s end.

The elderly lady murder victim was found on her farm by none other than Father John who became lost on his way to Upton
St. Mary

So we begin. The race to solve the murder AND get married is on. If Annabelle intends to go through with the wedding and can show at least as much interest in it as she does the murder.

There is a stranger in town doing research, a mysterious journal dealing with witchcraft found under the victim’s mattress , another stranger who gets hired by some of the shoppes and quickly fired.

Is witchcraft involved? Some think so.

There are a group of Travelers, Traveling People, or, if you prefer, Gypsies, camped not far from the murder scene and tension between the townsfolk and the Traveling People. One of the Gypsies purports to be a Witch.

The giant tent for the wedding reception also burns down.

Can or will anything else interfere?

This is certainly the best Annabelle Dixon to date and every entry was incredible in the series.

The race is on. The wedding is seemingly in question. There are multiple suspects it would appear. At other times there appear to be no viable suspects.

I never put it down. This book won’t just capture your interest - it will hold it prisoner until the end.

A VERY SURPRISING ENDING to say the least…

PS - Don’t miss this book. Read it and you will be more than happy you did.

I enjoyed this story, although I am sad that the series has come to an end and am disappointed that there won't be any more mysteries for Annabelle to solve in her new role as wife, fingers crossed the author changes her mind. At least we are left in a happy place and with smiles on our faces, as we think back on everything that went on in the course of the eight books. There wasn't a huge suspect list in this mystery but I actually liked that the wedding was more the focus and the question of would they actually be ready for the big day? It also gave the author a chance to reintroduce characters we had meet previously. Definitely not a conventional wedding but a lot of fun with moments of hilarity added in. The witches and gypsies were an unusual story line but played out well in adding drama to the final book. Off to see what other series I can find under this author.
The big day is fast approaching but Philippa is worried that Annabelle has changed her mind, with so much still to plan and organise it will take all her strength to keep her on track and that is before A body is discovered. The unusual placement of the body has Annabelle turning to the past for clues, especially as the murdered woman was Harper's aunt. The villagers are quickly to blame a traveling group of gypsies who seem reluctant to move on. Even Mike wants them to be guilty so he can shut the case before the big day. Annabelle however can't keep her mind on cakes or dresses when there is a killer in the village, a killer that might just get away with murder.
I have come to really enjoy listening to this narrator's bubbly and clear voice and look forward to re listening to the series again in a few months time.

Sadly this is the last book in a wonderful series that makes you feel the characters are your friends. The main character is Annabelle, the vicar in the small town parish of Upton St. Mary. She is very devoted to her parishioners, loves sweets and has a penchant, a sense, for solving mysteries. In this last book, we find Annabelle going to marry Inspector Mike and with the help of Philippa, who is not only the person who comes in to help Annabelle with day to day things, but is also a friend and her wedding planner. We find, while Philippa is planning a wonderful wedding for Annabelle, Annabelle seems a little distracted from helping with the planning, especially when her friend and favorite pastor, Father John who has come down from London to marry the pair gets lost on the way and bumps into a dead body who happens to be the aunt of the coroner, Harper. With Inspector Mike needing to solve this murder before their wedding in order to be looked at for a promotion and Annabelle getting herself involved in the investigation and with the Travelers (Gypsy types) camping near the woods who the townspeople are biased against, can the wedding actually go off on time or will it have to be postponed? Add to that an old diary found under the mattress of the murdered woman, and a strange visitor who is a historian on everything about the town and a strange fanatic who keeps leaving Annabelle notes. This is a great finale book with a surprise ending. I loved this entire series and in time I know I will revisit it again. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

A new episode in the life of Reverend Anabelle Dixon sees our favourite cleric preparing rather haphazardly, for what should be the happiest day of her, (rather Dawn French as the Vicar of Dibley-esque) life.
Other very entertaining characters include a technophobic minister facing an unexpected detour, a somewhat distracted (for completely different reasons), bride-to-be and her father, a VERY distracted wedding planner, a baker and a florist and a giggle, or should that be a gaggle? of bridesmaids, (let alone the eponymous 'witches' plus a superstitious groom).
They're all in somewhat of a tizzy, after a gruesome discovery and a mystery, that both bride and groom, a pathologist and the local police force, want solved before the rapidly approaching nuptials. It could all easily descend into a Carry On-like...well, carry on!
Will Annabelle and Mike make it to the church on time, or will the travellers' prediction - or someone of ill-intent - turn them into star-crossed lovers, doomed to matrimonial disappointment?

Annabelle and Mike are getting married. The entire village of Upton Saint Mary is excited. Philippa, the church secretary, is the the general in charge of the wedding. Reverend Annabelle feels trapped by everyone's expectations. It's just days before their nuptials when Kathleen Webster is murdered. Her manner of death is symbolic. She died a witch's death. Who could have done this? Mike is the Inspector in charge. He and Annabelle are determined to find the killer. I hoped that they would be successful. I wanted justice for the victim. Also I didn't want this special day to be filled with fear and sadness. I felt sorry for Annabelle. She's under enough stress. She wanted a small intimate gathering not a major social event. As the investigation proceeded I could tell that the crime was rooted in the past which makes it difficult to solve. Mike was working diligently to find the motive. Meanwhile Annabelle was using her knowledge of the villagers to help determine who was the killer. Will they be successfully? I enjoyed Witches at the Wedding. It was an exciting mystery that had unexpected twists. The ending wasn't what I expected. My hope was that Mike and Annabelle could start their new life together without any distractions.

In this last book of the series we have a final wedding that brings together all the characters of Upton St Mary that we have seen in the other books.
As I had already noticed in the previous book the characters are not always consistent from one book to the next. For example here Philippa, the Reverend's housekeeper, from discreet, caring and sweet becomes petulant, shrewish and nosy and also seems older.
The only real moment of suspense in the book is when Philippa suddenly freezes
Philippa's face turning a ghostly white, her eyes widening until they were two round, black disks, like tunnels to her soul.
And the chapter ends: did she perhaps see something, understand something regarding the murder? No, the new chapter begins and it turns out that Philippa simply forgot to check the seating arrangements for the wedding. Ridiculous. And there is also a woman who gives birth in a meadow and immediately afterwards goes to the wedding with the newborn in her arms.
And the killer is the usual crazy guy that no one noticed, his normal expression that he had throughout the book suddenly turns into a manic mask of malevolence and a nasty sneer and stuff like that.

A good story. A lot of the story is focused on Annabelle and Mike's wedding. As such, it felt like solving the murder was put on the back burner. Because of this, there weren't enough irons in the fire to distract from the probable assailant. The connection between which solved the murder is not provided until an appropriate point in the story. So, while you may guess who, you probably still won't have the understanding to solve the case.

There are plenty of non-murder issues which are unpredictable. There are certainly circumstances which need to be resolved. Yet, the story is quite enjoyable.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

I absolutely think Witches at the wedding is the best of the Annabelle Dixon books and it made me cry to hear that it is the last in the series.I want to know if they have children or how does Mike cope with his wife's meddling in his cases bother him or who gets up goes to work first. Just little things. This a great read,I would suggest to start at the begining and read to the end.Alison Golden is an exceptional author and she knows how to work a story.Wiches at the Wedding is to me the best of the series.The characters are like family, easy to like but complicated. I can not say enough about the book. It is the best book in the series. Easy fun read. Lots of things going on. Really filled with action, comedy and a dash of drama.Thank you Alison Golden great book!

Audiobook: I enjoyed this eighth book in the "A Reverend Annabelle Dixon Mystery" series very much. I listened to this audiobook in one sitting. It was with both happy and sad emotions that I listened to this last book in the series. I liked the characters that populated this series; some of my favorite scenes took place between Annabelle and Philippa. The wedding preparations descriptions were humorous. I appreciated the clever puzzle presented by the murder. I'm looking forward to exploring more stories written by this author. Penny Scott-Andrews' narration was great, and her performance helped to make the characters memorable. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Thrilling, rollercoaster of a read!

Annabelle and Mike's long awaited wedding is finally happening and with only a couple of days to go, what could get in the way? A murder, a religious fanatic, village unrest toward an outsider clan, arson, a birth and a minor case of 'cold feet'- to name a few!

Someone had tracked the ancestry of a supposed witch and all the female blood-line must die! Not if Annabelle can help it!

A truly riveting read with all the thrills and spills, you'd associate with Annabelle's life!
Loved the book, a fitting conclusion for a memorable character.

What a wonderful ending to this series. Annabelle and Mike are getting married in a few days, and they both seem to be nervous about it in their own way. The whole village of Upton St. Mary is excited about the nuptials. But when there is a murder it is the perfect distraction for Annabelle. She wants to help Mike solve the murder before their wedding, but the pieces aren't quite fitting together. This was a laugh out loud visit with Annabelle and the residents of the village. I love spending time with them.

This is a great ending to a highly recommended series featuring Reverend Annabelle. These books have been so enjoyable that I look forward to each new addition and adventure. Reading them has made me feel a part of their story. I am quite sad to have to say good-bye to these characters and this series. I hope that Alison will bring back some of the characters in some of her other great series.
Does Reverend Annabelle and Inspector Mike make it to the church or do circumstances fall into place to interrupt the ceremony and keep the happy couple from uniting?

Cold feet, warm heart

Finally the time is near for Mike & Annabelle's wedding. The whole town is planning on making their day the best ever. But Annabelle seems uninterested in the details & plans being made. When one of a pair of elderly sisters is found murdered in the barn on their farm and travellers camped nearby are suspected, Annabelle is more anxious to assist Mike in solving the case than in their wedding 3 days away.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end! So happy to see Annabelle and Mike get married, if they make it down the aisle! Between a murder that appears to be witch related, the obstacles thrown in their path to prevent the wedding and Annabelle's worries, not to mention the fortune teller's prediction...they just might not make it!!! A great ending to a wonderful series.

Annabelle and Mike are very lovable characters.  I'm sad to say goodbye them.  This is a great series.   This is a perfect ending to their adventures. I think this is my favourite book in the series.  Everything gets very nicely wrapped up. Will Annabelle make it to the altar?  Even Mike is beginning to wonder!  There is  no shortage of action and trouble for Annabelle to get into in the book. I highly recommend this series.

Rev Annabelle is getting married and the whole village is excited! The day before the wedding a body is found in a barn. Immediately the Travelers r suspects because they r camped out close to the property and were recently asked to move their camp. Mike has one day to solve it before the wedding. Mike’s promotion is in the line!
This was sadly the finale to the series! It was exciting , thrilling and suspenseful! I highly recommend this book! I’m sad for this series to end!

Reverend Annabelle is about to get married and anything that could go wrong does. Father John getting lost, then there's a dead body.

So the question is will Reverend Annabelle be getting married to Inspector Mike or will she solve the murder.

All these questions will be answered in Witches at the wedding.

Goodbye

I totally enjoyed this 8 book series about Reverend Annabelle Dixon and am soory it's come to an end. The Reverend Annabelle Dixon and Mike are about to be married in a few days. It would be lovely if everything would go smoothly, but that would be dull. This will be the wedding that everyone will remember for all time. There will be a body, shady characters and of course muddy dresses. This is a delightful mystery with a cast of characters that had my head spinning.

Reverend Annabelle and Mike Nicholls are getting married. It seems that Annabelle is more interested in solving a murder than preparing for the wedding. She is driving Phillipa crazy. Mike is concerned that something is wrong. He and Annabelle talk it out. I loved seeing this side of Annabelle. What a great book!

Delightful series with wonderful characters. The last 2 books in this series were written so well, they felt as though they unfolded like a movie. If you haven't read this author, you need to begin with book one of any of her series and treat yourself! Always well written in interesting settings with characters you get to know and like.
