I despise him with every inch of my body… But I’ll marry him to get what I want.
Torturing me is like a hobby for Nico and he mastered the art of driving me insane a long time ago.
He’s my brother’s best friend and I wouldn’t lose sleep if he fell into a black hole and disappeared forever.
I don’t care if he’s sinfully handsome, dangerous, wickedly smart, and deliciously shattered in that beautiful-brooding-bad-boy sort of way—Nico can eat glass.
Except my father wants to marry me off to another mafia family halfway across the country and will force me to leave the only life I’ve ever known.
So I make a deal with the devil.
If I marry Nico instead, I can stay in Phoenix and won’t have to leave everyone I care about behind.
The idea makes my skin crawl. Especially the way he looks at me. And touches me. And teases me. And kisses me…
I hate Nico and he hates me.
But he’s my only chance, and I’ll do anything to get what I want.
Broken by Sin is a steamy dark enemies-to-lovers standalone full length novel with some trigger warnings, so make sure you check them out! There's no cliff and a guaranteed HEA. Enjoy!!
Mafia Romance Matrimonio por Conveniencia Enemies to Lovers
(3 and a half stars) I need to explain... I am a huge fan of this author, which is why this review is so hard for me to leave. I expected to have the same kind of read and enjoyment from this one as I usually have when I read this author. I didn't, and in an effort to review honestly, I leave these comments.
While this story begins well, I found Karah difficult to enjoy. I like her, then she's annoying. I couldn't connect with her. And Elise is odd, and witchy for no good reason. Nico is what I expected, but his love connection with Karah is flimsy. Without any spoilers, it seemed disjointed.
I did enjoy parts of the story. The male characters and interactions are good. I found the female characters annoying, and lacking - not sure what exactly, but they didn't work for me.
Which is why the stars are where they are. :(
I absolutely recommend this author. I have enjoyed several of her series and stand-alones, and I will definitely be reading more from her. I think this read is just a rare dislike for me. (I certainly hope so!)
Loved it! Lots of danger, action and emotion. Loved the interplay with the characters
Loved this story. Main female character, Karah, is a spoiled Mafia princess, only daughter of 4 children to Don Bruno. The main male character, Nico, is best friends with the eldest son. He is also a trusted enforcer for the famiglia and soon to be made Capo. Both characters have always picked at each other, but there's something behind the constant teasing and bickering. He has a traumatic past that involves the famiglia and she has an unremembered trauma that's always caused problems.
When she's informed by the Don that she's to be married to a Russian and move to Texas, she begs her father to let her marry someone from the famiglia that he approves so she can stay. He has his reasons for always spoiling her and so gives her one week to find someone, and if he approves, he will smooth things over with the Russians. But her attempts go haywire and she's saved by Nico who becomes the only choice that her father will approve.
This story is about tragedy and trauma; about losing what you love at a young age. One blocks the memory but suffers for it. The other suffered even more in the after math and lived only for revenge, vowing to ruin the entire famiglia, only to come to love some of the very people he vowed to hate. What do you do when getting your revenge could cost you everything you've come to love? This story had a lot of action and emotion.
“You’re a selfish prick. You’re entitled and arrogant and mean, and I want you to make me come, you bastard.”
This book was everything I was looking for and more! I read this in one sitting; I couldn't put it down.
Nico is a broken soul; he witnessed his parents being murdered at a young age, and he was put in the foster system and had a tough upbringing.
Now he is working for the Don who killed his parents. Nico wants revenge, and he will stop at nothing to get it. Don Bruno has three sons, Casso, Fynn, Gavino, and a daughter Karah.
Karah's dad wants her to get married, so he arranges for her to be sent to Texas to marry Jasha Novalov. Karah is furious; she doesn't want to get married, and she certainly doesn't want to marry a Russian. She begs her father to give her a week to find a husband within the Famiglia.
Karah has one week to find a husband, but it's not as easy as she thinks.
The sexual tension between Nico and Karah was so HOT! They have some of the best banter I have read, and I devoured them!! The chemistry and SPICE (fans self) oooh, so good!! 🔥🔥🔥
It seems like a bully romance was attempted here but it missed the mark. When Karah and Nico finally got together, it was good, but the story read a little choppy and the whole finding someone before landing on Nico took a little too long for me.
DNF - 2.0= 50% I got through half of this novel and just couldn't stand Karah's character any longer. Her chosen ignorance of what daddy dearest is and what he does, is very childish She is too immature for my taste and vacillated between "papa this and that" to finding herself a husband in seven days....yeah seven days. I like this author but couldn't connect with either MC. Nico's character could have been so much better and yet through the first half of this book was only "mediocre". It's another "revenge trope" with a bit of self-doubt when it comes to the siblings of the Don that Nico wants to kill but overall seemed like the story was missing a very important component. There was no real connection between characters and what connection there was seemed disingenuous. Nico had a thing for Karah, but the minute they get together they seem like two feuding siblings instead of two people that eventually wed.
I have read much better from this author and therefore am giving this book a pass.
I despise him with every inch of my body… But I’ll marry him to get what I want.
Torturing me is like a hobby for Nico and he mastered the art of driving me insane a long time ago.

BROKEN BY SIN by B.B. Hamel is a contemporary, adult, dark, Maria romance story line focusing on twenty-eight year old Nico Farese, and twenty-two year old Karah Bruno.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Nico and Karah) BROKEN BY SIN follows the enemies to lovers relationship between twenty-eight year old Nico Farese, and twenty-two year old Karah Bruno. Karah Bruno is the only daughter of Don Domiano Bruno, and considered by many to be a spoiled Mafia princess but Don Bruno is about to give his daughter to the Russian mob in exchange for a power alliance. Karah is desperate to remain with the Famiglia, and makes a deal with her father that places our heroine in the direct line of fire. Nico Farese is a man determined to get his revenge, and his hatred for the Bruno family is growing by the day but as Don Bruno’s right hand man, Nico sees an opportunity, when Karah begins her search for someone to marry. All is not well in the Bruno organization, and Karah is ripe for the picking, setting Nico on his path of vengeance for crimes of the past. What ensues is the acrimonious but building relationship between Nico and Karah, and the potential fall-out as Karah is targeted, and memories from the past begin to destroy what’s left of her mind.
Nico Farese lost everything the day he landed in foster care, and vowed to seek revenge for sins of the past but Nico struggles with his hatred of, and attraction to our story line heroine, someone who is just as broken as our story line ‘anti-hero’. Karah Bruno admits she is spoiled but never expected to be sold to the highest bidder. Karah struggles with panic attacks, and the darkness that continues to engulf when she thinks about the past, a past that is about to come full circle for our story line couple.
The relationship between Karah and Nico is an enemies to lovers in which Nico sees Karah as a means to an end. Their hatred for one another, and tempestuous relationship hides a barely veiled, palpable sexual attraction, an attraction that could be the death of our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.
We are introduced to Karah’s brothers Casso, Flynn and Gavino, as well as their father Don Domiano Bruno; Don Bruno’s wife Elise, and Mafia soldier Rinaldo. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Karah’s brothers.
BROKEN BY SIN is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; murder and retribution; family and blood, love and happily ever after. The premise is gritty and dark; the romance is impassioned and raw; the characters are broken yet charismatic.
18 years ago, Nico’s father crossed the wrong people. Both of his parents were killed and his home set on fire. He escaped with his mothers help before she was shot. Nico now works for the familia under Casso the eldest son of Don Bruno, his best friend and capo. Nico gets on with all of the siblings except for the youngest one, the daughter. A spoiled mafia princess that does nothing useful with her time. He winds her up for fun just to get a reaction from her and he knows all of her buttons to press. But when Karah is told by her father that he has found a marriage match for her, with a Russian who lives in Dallas she panics. She doesn’t want to be shipped away from Phoenix like cattle. She wants to stay with her family. So that means trying to find a match within the familia. After a few failed attempts, the only member her father would consider is Nico But unbeknown to the family, Don Bruno is the reason for Nico’s family’s murder 18 years ago. The reason for all of his suffering and abuse courtesy of the foster system. Could marriage to Karah work in his favour? This was an excellent read with amusing banter between Nico and Karah throughout. But when push comes to shove they really do fall for each other and the result is two secrets both of them have to keep safe from the familia. Brilliant.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nico has had a tragic past orphaned when his parents were murdered at 10 years old he has dedicated his life to revenge. Karah is the youngest daughter of the Don and at 22 it is time she did her duty and got married to strengthen the family. Except Karah doesn't want to leave and sets her sights on getting Nico her brothers best friend, mafia inner circle and the bane of her existence to marry her instead.
Nico and Karah are attracted to each other but they have a hate hate relationship and both are way more complicated than they seem.
I loved this book, at times it was a little predictable but it doesn't matter the characters were perfect, the tension, drama and steam were everything and overall it was an enjoyable read. I devoured this in one sitting and was sad it was over. I love Karah and Nico together - just lovely.
For a Mafia romance this was fairly tame on the whole blood and murder side but the relationships between characters, character development and storyline were just great so definitely worth it. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Long-term revenge I loved this excellent dark romance, with a mafia atmosphere. The story is stretched between attraction and permanent repulsion between Nico and Karah. Nico is one of the most supported henchmen of the Don and his family (although he hates the Don), and Karah is the don's daughter. Nico has been undercover for years and slowly but surely his revenge is evolving, especially when he discovers that Karah must find a way not to be married to the heir of another mafia family. They hate each other, but find it difficult to run away from each other. Their story does not seem really tender, it is full of resentment, but it is nevertheless romantic in their own way, torrid, with characters for whom despite all that, we have empathy, with heavy pasts, and a story that evolves in an unpredictable way, with reversals. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Broken by Sin is a well written enemies-to-lovers romance. This slow-burn, dark age-gap mafia story has plenty of tragedy, drama, jealousy, sexual attraction, betrayal, revenge, danger, action, intense sex scenes, which all leads to a happily ever after.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Nico was a young boy of ten, when he lost both of his parents. His father crossed the Bruno Famiglia and a hit was ordered on his entire family. Nico’s mother forced Nicco out a second story window that saved his life. She wasn’t so lucky. He heard her screams as the men killed her. He has vowed revenge on the Bruno Famiglia ever since.
Nico befriended Casso Bruno, the Don’s oldest son, and has worked hard to gain the family’s trust and work up through the ranks. The Don considers him like another son. Nico, waits in the shadows for the perfect time to strike. In the meantime, he does enjoy causing a little bit of chaos when he can.
Karah is Don Bruno’s only daughter. She’s lived as a spoiled princess her whole life. However, he’s decided it’s time she grows up. He has arranged a marriage for her with a Russian that lives in Texas. Karah doesn’t want to leave her home and everything she knows. She was given one week to find a suitable husband within the Famiglia.
When her first attempt fails horribly, it is revealed that Nico is the only man her father will accept within his ranks. Nico, the man she hates. The man that enjoys torturing her. However, you know what they say about the devil you know. Of course, her father lets her know that he doesn’t think she can convince Nico. Game on!
Karah is quickly running out of time. Will Nico give in before it’s too late and she’s given away to the Russian? And, can Nico give up his bid for revenge for a chance at love?
“Morning, princess. You look gorgeous with that fresh just-came-hard hair.”
I grimace. That’s much better. A little hate rekindles and the world’s right again.”
I’ve been on a bit of a mafia kick lately. So, here is another one. I was not sure if I’d like this one of not. The synopsis seemed a bit dense and I was worried that would bleed over to the writing style, in general. I’m happy to report that was not an issue. The story flowed well and I enjoyed Nico (eventually) and Karah. I also enjoyed Karah’s youngest older brother, Gavino.
Don Bruno always seemed to have something up his sleeve, and I couldn’t take him at face value. Especially this deal he made with Karah. I was waiting for him to back out of it the whole time.
Neither Nico nor Karah really wanted to fall in love with each other. They enjoyed their bickering too much. However, neither can deny the sparks between them once they give them a chance to ignite.
“I love you more than I love brunch, and god damn, do I love brunch.”
I really enjoyed this couple once they gave love a chance. They both had similar struggles and were actually a pretty good fit. They definitely filled in the gaps for each other. Although I have a hard time, believing how easy it is for Karah to forgive what Nico did on their wedding night.
I would love to see more of this couple, and I hope that we’ll see more of them in the other books in the series.
“It’s like denying a hurricane or a tidal wave. Nico is my natural disaster, he’s my pleasure incarnate, he’s my sins made flesh and I want him to take me, ravish me, turn me into something I never once dreamed.”
Broken by Sin B. B. Hamel latest dark mafia romance is twisted, faced paced, revenge fuel, and plot driven. An enemies-to-lovers, hate-to-love story of two broken people suffering from past hurt. A dark anti-hero, a damaged yet strong heroine. Titillating so masterful woven, no readers can resist it's pull. It's compelling, riveting, and captivating. Broken by Sin is more of a slow burn romamce. There are also some triggering and emotional aspects to this story. Here are what you can expect in Broken by Sin some: banter, angst, drama, danger, lies, betrayals, hatred, resentment, murder, action packed, perseverance, greed, retribution, jealousy, secrets, suspense, revenge, revelations, struggles, passion, violence, darkness, control, strength, manipulations, alliances, steam and surprising twists and turns. This story is about mafia princess Karah Bruno and enforcer Nico Farese. Karah is the only daughter of Don Domiano Bruno and he gives her anything that she wants because of this everyone in the organization thinks that she's a spoiled mafia princess. Don Bruno wants to strengthen his empire. He offers his daughter Karah hand in marriage to a Russian mob familia for power alliance. Karah understands how the mob life works but she doesn't want to leave her family in Phoenix. She makes a deal with her dad where she will find someone of her choosing to marry her in two weeks. Nico is Karah brother's best friend and he's also an enforcer for the Bruno family. Karah and Nico hates each other and get into all the time. She's so desperate that she asked him to marry her. Nico joined the Bruno organization to get his revenge for the murders of his parents that cost him to end up in the foster care system. He plan and plots on how to get his revenge so when Karah asked him to marry her he saw her as a mean to an for his vengeance. Nico has done a lot of things to get close to his goal for revenge including joining the Bruno family. He marry Karah but he has his own reasons for embarking on the journey but, he wasn't prepared for the danger that the union would bring their way. The more time that spend together in close proximity as husband and wife they find that they are attracted to each other. The sexual chemistry between these two is magnetic and charge. The sex scenes are libidinous, carnal, and scorching hot. The need for revenge dulls as his feelings grows Karah. Broken by Sin suck you in from the first chapter and kept you invested in characters. The characters were flaw and relatable they each suffered some much. Karah were exiting and Nico was fuel by his pain. Well written and great storyline and with good secondary characters.

Nico is 28 years old, too old to be acting the way he was towards Karah. Looks of disdain, okay, all that I’m in elementary school behavior was ridiculous. HE’S TOO OLD FOR THAT. The as no chemistry between Nico and Karah, the constant elementary behavior helped to keep the lack of chemistry. And the reason of him wanting to go after the father and all his kids is ridiculous. His kids had zip to do with the past that he’s holding them responsible for. The father I get. Why is it Nico’s the only one who knows how Rinaldo is? His own Capo and Don don’t know, how? It made zero sense for Nico to leave Rinaldo, they were in a restaurant that belongs to the family, Rinaldo should have been picked up and brought to the house, not left. Why, so can do this hunt for him when he should have already been in the Don’s office? And to center the drama around him makes no sense at all. Very eye rolling. Should have found something else because his continued involvement was not believable. I don’t care if he’s written as being a psychopath, even if they want to survive, and there is no way that he would continue to stay around. It wasn’t a minor person that he was in trouble behind. the events that followed just ruin the story even more. Chapter 10, Nico is mulling over how Karah asked him “Will you marry me?” THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS SAID! It was just the previous chapter and end of the previous chapter at that! She said ONLY “Marry me.” The continued bickering back and forth became extremely annoying and was quite stupid. And why is it Karah is asking what Nico’s last name is AFTER their wedding? The officiant has to say their names!! Introduces the new couple as Mr and Mrs last name! at the end of the ceremony! And it’s even more incredibly unbelievable that the Don doesn’t know his last name. And the security being lax just because of the wedding is laughable. More unbelievability to the story, and brings it down even more. Had to do a lot of skimming to get through this book. It’s fairly well written, the story itself needs work. Can’t see continuing with the series.
Buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a deliciously dark story 😊. There will be guilt, suspense, a little violence, lies, lies, lies, and then you have hope, and love. By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! Can’t say I didn’t warn you. They say it is a think line between love and hate and these two prove that to be true neither really likes the other, yet they can’t stay away from each other. Nico sexy as all get out best friend to the son of the Don, both parents murdered barley escaping death and works with his best friend the capo, but he is broken yet sexy like most mafia men tolerating the youngest sister (or so he tells himself 😉) Karah little sister /daughter to the Don is expected to do her part in marring for partnership as typically done in mafia families but she isn’t willing to marry just anyone so her goal is try and convince her brother’s best friend to marry her however, she dislikes him so much because he has always tortured her and that is her story she hates him but will tolerate him if it gets her what she wants (or so she tells herself). The attraction has always been in play with these two as they got older the attraction turns to chemistry and ignoring the magnetic pull is becoming harder and harder for them so that hate is more like love disguised as hate. They make everything complicated when it could be something so simple, they insist on making it nearly impossible but fate has her hands in this and when she takes control well it isn’t much we can do but go along with her so will he agree to marry her, will they get along long enough to convince her family especially her father, and can they find happiness? . THIS is what I love about new to me authors! They can bring you the most unexpected stories in the most unexpected ways and this is exactly what this author has done. I've gotten an incredibly exciting, intense, story right from the very beginning and it stayed consistent throughout the entire book. I was enthralled with this story from start to finish. Nico, having having suffered such horrific tragedy in his early life and Karah Bruno, the daughter of the Don of the Bruno Familia and Nico's boss, seem to have a love/hate relationship, or at least that's my take on it in the beginning. He's definitely not one to be messed with and she just loves poking the bear. When it's been arranged for her to marry to align the families, that's when we really get a good look at the hot-headed, albeit desperate Karah and what Nico intends to do about it. He does have his own agenda after all. Broken By Sin is a great, engaging, age gap read! Kudos to this author, I'm officially hooked!!
This is the 1st story in a new series A Dark Mafia Romance. In this one we get to see what Nico is up to to get his revenge on the Bruno family that killed his dad and mom when he was a young boy. Nico has not had an easy life in the foster care and one day he becomes friends with the Dons oldest friend and he gets close to all the siblings. One day the Don tells Karah she is to marry a Russian to better their business dealings but Ksrah gets her father to agree to 1 week for her to find a suitable man from the family. Things get turned upside down for her and Nico ends up settling in to protect Karah against one of their own. I love how Nico and Karah gO from hating one another to falling in love. There are twist you will not see coming and you hope that Nico and Karah find a way back together. Nico becomes a man in many ways he never thought possible! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nico is broken and a hard man to understand. He knows what he wants and has worked hard to accomplish his goals. His relationship with Karah can only be described as a love and hate battle of wills, and he loves to hate her.
Karah is in a tight spot, and the only one that can save her is Nico. She is fighting to overcome her demons and understand her life, and she knows that her attraction to Nico is dangerous, and she goes after what she wants because only Nico can save her.
Their secrets have the power to destroy them both. They choose to find happiness and accept things they can't change by being happy together. Nico accepts Karah for who she is, and with her, he can be free to love and find a family again. Together they mend each other's hearts.
This story teaches us that the past has a way of forming our lives, and it's up to us to decide if we want to find love and happiness or let the past destroy us.
Dark, intense enemies to lovers, mafia romance between Karah (h22), Don Bruno's daughter, and Nico (h28), one of her father's lieutenants. They both antagonize one another at every chance they get, though Karah doesn't really understand why Nico hates her so much. Both are marked by their pasts that have done much to shape who their characters are - why Karah's father treats her as he does and why Nico is so closed off and secretive as he hides his burning desire for revenge. The action storyline is just nonstop, and events just keep building with so many interwoven plot elements. The powerful sexually interactions between Karah and Nico keep escalating and climaxing throughout the story for Karah and Nico to have their HEA. Given the nature of this story there is violence - attempted rape, kidnapping, murders.
Intense Steamy Dark-Enemies-to Lovers Romance Another awesome dark mafia romance by BB Hamel. Eighteen years ago, Nico was left an orphan and homeless. Now he is out for revenge, so he intertwines himself within the Familia of Don Bruno. He hates what they all represent. Don Bruno wants to marry his daughter into another mafia family in Dallas to strengthen his power. Now Karah’s only chance of staying in Phoenix with her family is to marry Nico, but they hate each other even though the attraction and chemistry between them is explosive. This is a well written story with hot steamy romance with drama, violence, suspense and lots of secrets. Could not put it down. Hope to read more about Karah’s brothers in the future. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
In “Broken by Sin” we meet Karah Bruno and Nico Farese. Karah’s father, the Dom of the Bruno family has decided it’s time for her to marry and promises her to a Russian family who lives in Texas. Karah is desperate to avoid marrying a stranger and leaving her family in Arizona. She asks her father to let her find a suitable husband to marry closer to home. This sets the stage for the relationship between Karah and Nico, the man she loves to hate because he seems to hate her so much. But remember that Karah is desperate so maybe she could marry Nico the man who works for her father and is a higher up in the mafia. The banter between the two is at times funny at times poignant. Ms Hamel gets just a little bit darker in each book and I love that about her writing. This is one you don’t want to miss.
What an edge of your seat read! Karah and Nico, fire and water, explosive interactions between them and it's hard for Nico to get this woman out of his head. He's warring within himself as he's been on this path of revenge for so long, the lines are now getting blurred. Pain, hatred, lust, all emotions that are felt in this book and "All for the girl I hate." It's not black and white, it's colorful, loved this description of their relationship, also noteworthy was Maxim's advise to the newlyweds, definitely made me smile. A sinner vs a saint, and carrying the burden for both. I really loved how this story came together and the journey they travelled to get to where they needed to be. Hope, a wish and a prayer. "I love you more than brunch."
This is another book set in the southwest. It features Nico who we have met before in BITTER PLEDGE. This is set in the time he was thought dead. He wound his way through the foster system in Phoenix, Arizona. And worked his way up in the Bruno Famiglia. And Karah is the youngest and only daughter of the Don. This story is full of twists and turns. There is anguish and hate. And also desire and love. Can Nico get past his hate of the Bruno Don in time to save Karah? Well I won’t say how they get there but they do have a Happily Ever After. I love BB Hamel’s mafia worlds. They have such rich characters, both good and bad. And they are all gripping reads from start to finish. I did receive an advance copy for my honest review.
Nico has spent years plotting and planning his revenge on the man who killed his parents. Karah is the sole daughter of the family. She is to be shipped off to marry a Russian to strengthen the family. Unless she can find a suitable local option in two weeks.
Karah has three brothers. Her eldest brother's best friend Nico is a thorn in her side. She approaches a handsome soldier working for her father, not knowing truly what kind of man he is. Suddenly the choices are Nico or the Russian. But Nico has already said “no”.
Mafia, family (Famiglia), revenge, survival and relationships. A fast-paced story with twists and turns which will hold the reader in fascination.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Vengeance and Clarity Karrah is a Mafia Princess that fights at her restraints on a daily basis. Being around nothing but men, except the horrible step monster Elise, makes life boring. Her brothers think that the Dom or the man otherwise known as dad is too lenient on the princess. When the time comes for her to be sold off the sparks begin to fly. When she convinces dad to let her pick her husband no one believes that he will let her. Her last chance is Nico after lots of drama but Nico has a closet full of drama of his own. Will these two get over their Hate for one another or will past demons destroy them all? Lots of hot scenes along with a lot of mafia happenings. Grab this book and settle in for a great read. (As Usual!)
