Fallon: A badass through and through, I live for excitement and the daredevil in me thrives on danger. Working for Slater Security, a private company that specializes in protection, defense and surveillance, is the perfect job for me. But lately something is missing, and no amount of action can fill the aching hole inside of me. My current job is providing protection for a super model with a stalker. God, help me. And just when I think it’s going to be smooth sailing, everything blows up: my client and I get abducted, my suitcase containing my personal arsenal disappears and my heart nearly stops when I see him.
Ryan: A geek through and through, I live for all things tech and the “daredevil” in me thrives on playing video games. I’m a med-school dropout who decided he’d rather start an IT company than be surrounded by blood and guts in an ER room. My best friend convinces me to take a much-needed vacation and that’s when I see her. The uptight, ebony-haired beauty is out of my league, but Fate throws us together on an adventure complete with jewel thieves, high-speed chases and a safe combination that only I know. Now the bad guys want me because my photographic memory doesn’t let me forget anything. And after the adventure of a lifetime with Fallon, I know one thing for sure: forgetting her isn’t an option. But can the geek get the girl?
*This is book 1 in the Slater Security series and can be read as a standalone. Expect lots of action, steamy romance, opposites attract, suspense and, as always, a HEA.
This is a spin-off from Gracyk’s Project Phoenix series. It stands well on its own and can be read without that background.
I loved the idea of a badass female operative contrasted with a geeky guy. Unfortunately there’s too many things here that just don’t work for me. Insta love isn’t my favorite, but combined with unrealistic & absurd situations - I just couldn’t continue. I prefer romantic suspense with more fully developed plots and operatives showing their skills.
Specific issues (contains spoilers):
I am going to continue the Project Phoenix series though. I think the sci-fi aspect smoothed some of the issues here.
I think this is my new favorite Charissa Gracyk book! I devoured it in less than 24 hours. Ryan was the perfect complement to Fallon and I love the camaraderie of the Slater Security team. These girls are bad-ass and I can't wait to find out who captures the hearts of the others!
Oh wow. This had to be my favourite of Charissa's books. It just had it all. Drama, mystery, intensity, challenges, romance and steam. So good! This was about Ryan and Fallon who met on a plane and ends up swapping bags. An off shoot to the Project Phoenix series, this is very much along the same lines just a different team. I really loved how Ryan found his ideal woman in Fallon and how he fit in her world. Their chemistry just was explosive and I loved how Fallon battles with herself constantly but steadily gave in to her interests. Still with that brilliant team spirit, the supporting characters were just wonderful also. This book I can highly recommend and I seriously can't wait for more in the series. This was an ARC and this is my honest review.
Be prepared to binge read. I planned on reading for an hour before bed and next thing I know, it’s after 2am and I had work the same day. Charissa writes a dangerous book. Definitely a compulsive read which is hard to find.
It took me no time to fall for Ryan. He’s a tall, well built handsome man sporting glasses and a has the heart of a nerd. It’s refreshing to see a man like him. He may be the Ex-military bombshell, Fallon’s complete opposite, but he was made for her. He’s the only one that can pull out the woman inside who she has tucked away from the world. Until Ryan.
There is no lull in this action-packed heated adventure. It kept me on my toes while fanning my face when I wasn’t laughing out loud.
The author knows just how to create unique, perfect characters. I highly recommend!
This is the first book in the spin-off series from Project Phoenix. The Slater Security team was introduced in Reactivated Max (Book 4 Phoenix). While the Phoenix team is referenced in this book, I liked that it was not necessary to have read them first. That said, if you don't read the Phoenix Project, you have missed a great read! The team is made up of Dash Slater, former military and CEO of Slater, Fallon, Sailor, Eden and Maddox. Fallon, Sailor, and Eden are all bad-ass female operatives with backgrounds in military Delta Force, CIA and FBI, (picture Charlie's Angels in modern times -not the *shutter* *cringe* Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu version ). A mix up with luggage, a meet that ends in a near kidnapping and a very expensive piece of jewelry is what starts this action packed, steamy romance. Fallon and Ryan are opposites: A ass-kicking security operative with Slater Security, Fallon is tough, capable and has walls build around her heart. Ryan is a sweet, nerdy geek with a big heart and a body that is built to play. They seem like the most unlikely of pairs. Fallon is the one who fights the attraction while Ryan follows his heart. The banter is adorable and the feelings are realistic. As for the steam. don't let the words "nerd" or "geek" fool you. Smart, funny and sexy are the words best to describe Ryan. Oh and control... at least in the bedroom! Ryan is all male and is truer to real men than the usual alpha males in romance. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE alpha males in my romance. but Ryan is a quieter more subtle in his alpha-ness and it was honestly refreshing. It was so refreshing and different to read a book where the heroine is the alpha (except in the bedroom *wink wink*). I love the reverse of the stereotypical alpha hero and sunshine heroine. Charissa does a great job mixing romance, the feels and action in this story. Can't wait for the rest of the series and the rest of Project Phoenix!
I love Charissa Gracyk’s writing style, and I have loved all her books, so I knew I was going to enjoy this one immensely.
You get introduced to the Slater Security team in book #4 of her brilliant Project Phoenix series which I liked as it’s a little tease I didn’t know I was getting at the time. You don’t have to have read that series to be able to understand this one.
I love Fallon and Ryan! I love how the conventional characters are switched, and the female main character (Fallon) was a total badass! She has extremely high walls that need to be scaled. Ryan is the typical nerd. Extremely geeky and a total softy too. BUT! In the bedroom… he sheds that nerdy side and is controlling in the yummiest ways. 🔥🔥🔥
This book is action-packed, steamy, and keeps you turning the pages without stopping! Brilliant story. Loved it!
I’m really excited about this series, and I can’t wait to see where she goes with this.
I started reading this new series by Charissa Gracyk with the thought that nothing could be as good as her Operation Phoenix series. Big mistake. Huge!! This first instalment in the series was fantastic!! It was refreshing to see such a strong kickass female character. Fallon was a definite alpha - just in female form. She shows no hesitation in taking down the bad guys whether it’s with her bare hands or her weapon of choice. You wouldn’t think that a woman who has surpassed many in a field dominated by strong alpha men would choose someone who at first looks to be a major geek. But what’s interesting is that they are actually perfectly matched. His lightness and calm a perfect balance to the stress of her job and the consequences of the way her past has shaped her. Ryan is a fantastic character. He knows he can’t compete on the macho scale but that doesn’t mean that he’s any less of an alpha male. His smile and easy going nature is addictive and the way he bows to Fallons experience and ability with respect just shows his complete ease in his masculinity. It’s a breath of fresh air as not a lot of authors portray this relationship where the woman is the protector often. Charissa Gracyk has portrayed this match perfectly, showing that a leading male character can retain his man card whilst in the company of three women who could easily lay him out without breaking a sweat. It is beautifully written. This is an exceptional read. A fantastic start to a new series. This rollercoaster ride has it all - suspense, chemistry, family and acceptance. Couldn’t recommend this story highly enough. Without a doubt 20 million star review.
We got a peek at Fallon in the previous series, so I’d been looking forward to really getting to know this daredevil heroine! They certainly gave her the perfect nickname “Dangerous” because she seems to live on the edge and never backs down. There’s only one person who sees something vulnerable and fragile in her….. Ryan is a total hottie but not in an obvious way. He’s only looking for a little vacation away before he embarks on a new beginning….. This story was powerful, fun, intense, steamy and so much more! A magnificent beginning to this spin-off series!!! I can’t wait to see what Charissa Gracyk has in store for us next!!! Highly recommended!!! Five stars all the way!!
A fascinating story with action, humor and sweetness. Fallon is a badass ex special forces woman working for her ex commander at Slater Security. On a job keeping a super model safe she run in to geek Ryan. She finds him attractive and decides to forget about him. Their luggage get switched up and when they go to get their luggage switched back all hell breaks loose. Their adventure begins. Can't wait to read the next book. I read an arc of this book and this is my review
It is so refreshing to be able to read an action packed, steamy love story where the women is the hero. Fallon is a real life action hero, she can protect and save you from the bad guy. When she meets Ryan things start to change and she lets her guard down…will she really fall in love? Charissa Gracyk knows how to capture you within the first few pages. This action packed love story will keep you on your toes and your heart racing for several reasons!
Operation Drop Dead follows Ryan and Fallon as they are taken on a thrilling, action packed adventure complete with abduction, jewel thief and steamy romance.
Ryan is everything. He is one of the sweetest, geeky guys that just makes my heart melt. Fallon is a tough girl that has made her name in being great at her job. The two compliment each other incredibly well and give us a fun, action filled story that never ceases to have my interest.
Book one in Charissa’s new Slater Security series was so much fun! It still has her trademark action and heat, but then there’s Ryan. I fell in love with his geeky/sexy vibe and fun personality from the get-go! And having him be the sunshine to Fallon’s grump was a refreshing flip from what is typically seen in books. (The hero is usually the grump.) It was also great to have a heroine unapologetically be the badass protector.
If the rest of the books in the series match this one - which I have no doubt they will based on the author’s track record of writing great books - I’ll be a very happy reader!
Charissa, you killed it with this book!! I've got a girl crush on Fallon. She's so badass but also vulnerable and her backstory made my heart hurt.
And Ryan *swoon* he's so sweet and cute. He may be a geeky guy but underneath, he's just as badass as Fallon. Not to mention an alpha in the bedroom.
Their love story is wonderful! Tough girl meets geeky boy. Tough girl let's down her guard around geeky boy. Geeky boy turns out to be her perfect match and the rest is history.
Just like with Project Phoenix, it's full of action, tense situations and spice. So much spice. I can't wait to see what comes next in this series.
Fallon & Ryan's love story is wonderful, filled with action, suspense & steam. It's first person, dual POV, which I really enjoy! Gracyk, thanks for the great romantic suspense!
Loved the start of new Slater Secuirty book, and loved the role of the powerhouse woman working with the geeky guy who isn't a martial arts expert... but still dominant in his way. Fallon is a goddess and Ryan is a sweetheart. Excited for book 2.
This book was such a refreshing change of pace for me. I’d forgotten how much I love women who can kick major butt because in most “protector”romances that’s always the hero’s job. Well, Charissa Gracyk turns that notion on its ear with this new series.
The heroine, Fallon, is the alpha and she fits that role perfectly. Her character was very well developed and learning her backstory gave her depth and believability. And the hero, Ryan, is such a perfect cinnamon roll, or should I say churro ;)? He was sweet, funny, and completely supportive and okay with letting the heroine take the lead. Their dynamic was my favorite part of the book and it makes me want to read more stories like it. The chemistry and the steam is there but it’s all the emotions going on in the background that really pulled me in. These two make an amazing team and of course, in the end, they take down the bad guys and win the day!
1000 percent recommend this book! I will definitely be rereading it.
I was not familiar with Charissa Gracyk's work prior to reading "Operation: Dead Drop," but I am glad that I took a chance on this new-to-me author, who has penned a romantic suspense novel that is entertaining from start to finish. In particular, I enjoyed the fun and fast-paced plot, which revolved around a badass heroine named Fallon who is a former Delta Force member and a current bodyguard for high-profile clients of Slater Security, a company started by her friend and fellow military comrade, Dash. Fallon is supposed to protect a popular supermodel, but her plans go haywire when she bumps into unsuspecting Ryan Mercer, a nerd who wears glasses, remembers almost everything he sees because of his photographic memory, underestimates his own sexiness, likes geeky shirts about binary code, and feels deeply smitten with Fallon from the first moment he catches sight of her.
There is so much to like about "Operation: Dead Drop," especially the two protagonists, who are polar opposites in many ways. Fallon is stoic, occasionally grumpy, tough as nails, and dedicated to her job, whereas Ryan is a laidback med-school dropout who wears his heart on his sleeve, has a fondness for corny jokes, and is savvy with computers. I loved their dynamic, as these opposites not only attract, but also balance each other perfectly, with Fallon the yin to Ryan's yang. I found Ryan's candor to be really refreshing, since he is always upfront and open about his strong feelings for Fallon. In fact, one of my favorite lines from the story is when Fallon playfully asks “do I detect a note of jealousy, Mercer?," to which the honest and adorable hero replies, "A note? No. A whole goddamn symphony? Yeah.” Likewise, I thought it was awesome how Gracyk switched the usual gender roles that readers are accustomed to seeing in these types of stories, with Ryan taking on more of the classic 'damsel in distress' part, and Fallon serving as his courageous savior. There is even a scene where the two characters are racing through the streets on a motorcycle together, and all too often in action movies or romantic suspence novels, the male lead is the one in charge as the woman holds on tight, but in "Operation: Dead Drop," I admire how the author flips this convention on its head by having Fallon expertly drive the bike while Ryan tries to keep his arms wrapped around her so that he won't fall off.
Although I enjoyed almost every aspect of this book, there were a few small details that prevented me from giving it a five-star rating. First of all, while I understand that the main couple goes through a difficult experience together (which I'm sure can cause people to bond more quickly than they normally would), I must admit that I struggled with the overall timeline of their relationship and how rapidly it seemed to progress. I am not saying that it's impossible for two people to fall in love within a few days of meeting each other for the first time — especially when they have electric chemistry like Fallon and Ryan do —but it's nevertheless hard for me to fully believe that they can go from complete strangers to besotted soulmates in less than a week. I guess I have a soft spot for slow burn stories, because even though the fast-paced plot resulted in fantastic action sequences, I think it also slightly undermined the realism of Fallon and Ryan's connection. Similarly, while I appreciate a good love scene as much as the next girl, I found it odd that Ryan and Fallon's first time together came directly after the latter sustained a serious injury. The author does a great job of showing the two characters' passion for one another, but again, it seems somewhat unrealistic for them to have sex shortly after Fallon hurt her arm.
These quibbles aside, I believe that "Operation: Dead Drop" is a terrific book and a wonderful start to the Slater Security series. I am already eager for Sailor and Maddox to get their own HEA next, since enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, especially when it's obvious that the main characters are not really enemies at all, but rather, they are simply denying their attraction and pretending to dislike each other in order to conceal their true feelings. I cannot wait to see what Gracyk has in mind for Sailor and Maddox (and the rest of the Slater Security gang) in the future!

I'm a huge Charissa fan. I love the action she put in her stories and how relatable are her characters. They're all badasses, but each have their own individuality so it's amazing to read their interactions in the books.
This book is the first one of the Slater Security Series and we have characters mentioning people from the Project Phoenix Series, as well as cameos of one of my favorites PP boy. In this book we are properly introduced to Fallon. She had already made some appereances on the other series, but it was really nice to see her in her full glory. She's a badass military chick with an outstanding service history and a passion for makeup. Fallon knows many martial arts moves, how to clean a number of weapons and also how to draw the perfect Cat Eye on the first try.
She's the perfect match for Ryan Mercer, the geek. He knows everything about programming, has a photographic memory and it doesn't help that he's extremely attractive too! When they switch bags by mistake in the airport, Ryan ends up involved in a plot to steal a massive ruby which belongs to Fallon's protégée: A super model... And Ryan is the only one who knows the combination of the safe.
The book is really funny! We have the grumpyXsunshine trope when the girl is the grumpy and the guy is the sunshine. Ryan is a keeper! I wish I could have had more of his We also have amazingly written action scenes, with some of them coming straight from a marvel movie screenplay. It was an awesome journey from beginning to end.
Just like in Project Phoenix, Charissa nailed with the perfect amount of comedy, action and romance.
This is the first book in this Slater Security series and the first book that I’ve read by this author. I think I want to go back and read the series before this. I love Charissa’s writing. It captivated me and threw me into this world. Character development was amazing.
Fallon is your badass FMC who holds her own to those around her. Fallon is currently protecting a model from a stalker. On a plane she unfortunately, or maybe it was fortunate, swapped bags with Ryan, a med student drop out who loves video games and has his own IT company and a photographic memory.
Fallon and Ryan are complete opposites but so perfect for together. He lets her take the lead in their adventures (and there’s a lot of them). He’s hot for a “geek” but so sweet. I love the banter.
This book is filled with action, suspense, twists and turns, mystery and so much steam. Fallon may be the alpha in life, but Ryan is the alpha in the bedroom. True page turner. Can’t wait to read what happens next in this series.
I received this arc and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Operation: Dead Drop is a fantastic start to Charissa Gracyk’s newest series. Readers of Gracyk’s Project Phoenix series have already gotten a bit of a glimpse into the world of Slater Security, and now we get the chance to see them all in action. Perfectly placed as a standalone as well as a series debut novel, Dead Drop dives right in with an unexpected and adorkable geeky hero and a bada$$ heroine who brings the sass in a big way. I love the banter, intensity, vulnerability, and elements of self-discovery of both Fallon and Ryan, individually and together. Gracyk creates the perfect pacing with fantastic dialog and well-timed, heart racing action sequences. If you’re looking for humor, steam, and suspense with your HEA, this is the perfect book. I cannot wait to see where Gracyk takes us next!
Charissa Gracyk’s first book in her ‘Slater Security’ series has done it again by capturing readers attention and hearts. Ryan and Fallon, the main characters, are most certainly two worlds apart. Ryan is a medical dropout student, who is now an IT geek. Fallon is a bada$$ female who works for Slater Security. They meet on a plane and accidentally get their luggage switched. I’ve loved all of Charissa’s books and this one doesn’t disappoint. There’s plenty of exciting suspenseful adventure with twists and turns along with steamy scenes. This book is so riveting that I couldn’t put it down until the very last page. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
Fallon and Slater Security was mentioned in the Project Phoenix series and I just had to check out this series. Consider me impressed Fallon is a bad a&& b and over qualified to escort a fashion model from New York to a show in California. Ryan recently quit med school and taking a break before following his heart and pursuing a job in the IT business. His friend recommends a vacation to California and Ryan is soon drawn into Fallon’s world and involved in running from thieves who want the combination to a safe containing a priceless jewel that the fashion model has. Lots of action, suspense, flirting and steam in this one and I really enjoyed this adventure.
I have read this author's previous books, although you can read this as a stand alone. It's a spin-off of her previous series, the Project Phoenix series. This new spin-off is just as exciting as her last series but features a badass female lead and it's written in first person. I love a first person narrative, and I enjoyed the opposites attract aspect to this novel. Like her previous romances, this one ends with a much deserve HEA and is fast paced. I loved every minute of Fallon and Ryan's story--complete with jewel thieves and high speed chases--and appreciated the slight twist to the "normal" romance novel with Fallon's character. I highly recommend this story for anyone who needs an escape from reality. I received an ARC of this novel and am leaving a voluntary review.
I love how this author writes! She draws you in and your hooked and flipping pages next thing you know your at the end and now I want to cry as I want it to keep going!! Badass bodyguard Fallon meets the guy she never thought she could or would fall in love with till she sees and meets geeky Ryan. Incredible story the chemistry between them makes the pages burn as they sizzle together and fall in love.
What an action packed, heart racing, chemistry filled romance sending Fallon's heart into overdrive and a roller-coaster game with the walls she has built. When she finally realizes her love for Ryan will she be able to get to him in time to save him. Loved it!!

Fallon and Ryan are perfect for each other! I love this hero …… he is so happy and comfortable with himself. Confident, smart, steamy, supportive - all the feels! I love Fallon too! Angst is kept to a minimum while they find their way. Good story, good connection of characters, fast read.
Even though I accidentally read the second book first, I really enjoyed this one. It’s a great standalone that has a little bit of everything. I can’t wait to read more in the series. There multiple characters that I would like to see more of.
Side note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review
Loved it so much!! I laughed, I smiled so hard that my cheeks hurt. Great plan starting with Fallon and Ryan. Just the right amount of suspense, smoking hot romance scenes, and of course the group of friends that have become a family.
