The woman’s skin was almost transparent. Her light hair darkened at the tips. Her lips were blue and slightly parted. But all Mackenzie could focus on were the eyes. Those arctic eyes that looked glassy like glistening marbles. She could see her own reflection in them staring back at her. The woman looked almost like a carefully crafted doll.
Detective Mackenzie Price knows what makes a killer tick. But when she finds the body of a young woman dumped in the trunk of her car, she knows this case is going to be the most personal and twisted yet.
Looking down at the victim, Mack recognises her instantly: Sophie Fields, the fiancée of Mack’s co-worker who vanished months before. Reeling in shock, Mack keeps one crucial piece of evidence to herself, too horrified to share it: a crumpled piece of paper bearing the words “You’re welcome, Mackenzie.”
As Mack pieces together Sophie’s last known movements, another body is found with a note. This time the victim is Courtney Montenegro, Mack’s childhood bully. As Mack looks at the note it becomes clear that the killer has an unusual MO: they want to protect her at all costs. But why?
The only evidence connecting the victims are identical pieces of material left at both crime scenes. With no other leads, Mack unearths a cold case which may lead her to the killer. Sophie had a sister who disappeared years before. Did she get too close to the truth and pay the ultimate price?
With an obsessive killer still on the loose, Mack knows that she needs to get deep inside their mind to work out who is next on the hit list. Can she get to the killer in time before someone close to her loses their life?
A completely gripping read that will have you on the edge of your seat, this addictive crime thriller is perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.
2.5 stars, rounded up The Lost Bone in the fifth in the Mackenzie Price series. Mackenzie is a detective in the Lakemore PD. She comes back from a run to discover the dead fiancée of her co-worker, a woman who's been missing for 2 years in her car trunk. Next, another woman she knows, a bully from school, turns up dead. I never did get totally engaged in the story or with the characters. I think part of that might be because I hadn’t read the earlier books in the series. Choudhari references some of the background from those books but doesn’t delve deeply. I didn’t feel the book worked well as a stand-alone. The town almost comes across as a character, given a past of shady dealings and corruption. And one specific area of the town might even be haunted. And the story revolves around a conspiracy of society bigwigs which I struggled to find believable. In fact, the more the story went on, the more unbelievable it all became. Mackenzie has a complicated past, which was hinted at (and probably more fully explained in prior stories). But I am in the minority here, as other reviews are much more positive. This is not a series I will continue with. My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
Returning from a run early one morning, Detective Mackenzie Price of the Lakemore Police Department was puzzled to see the boot of her car was slightly open. But when she couldn’t close it, her horror at what was inside made her stumble back. Ringing her partner, Detective Nick Blackwood, he was soon at her home, along with members of the force. Sophie Fields had gone missing twelve months prior, and her fiancé was a colleague at the police department. The horror included a personal message for Mack.
When another body was discovered after being missing for a couple of days, it was a person who bullied Mack at school – and included another personal message for Mack. What was going on? Was the killer obsessed with Mack, with keeping her safe? Nick and Mack, along with other team members, combed the areas for clues, finally finding a connection. But when direction led to people in high places of Lakemore, once again Mack and her team were bamboozled. And what was happening in nearby Tombstone?
The Lost Bones is the 5th in the Detective Mackenzie Price series by Ruhi Choudhary and it was breathtakingly brilliant. Her best yet in my opinion! Mackenzie is a great character and she and Nick work well together. The tension was high, the pages turned themselves – I’m keen for #6 already. Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely love the Mckenzie Price series she's such a well written leading lady abd each caee triggers thoughts of her past in one way or another. BOOK 5 IN THE SERIES read book 1 to 4 If you are thinking of reading this book, its one of my favourite series.
Mckenzie is horrified when she goes to her car and finds a dead body in her trunk, even worse she knows who the woman is a face she can't forget as she's spent the summer searching for her. With cryptic messages left for her personally as the bodies start to pile up, bodies of people who once wronged Mckenzie she knows its personal and she's finding it hard to leave her emotions at home. Question is why is someone killing for Mckenzie when she isn't asking them to?
So ad I said I love this series and this was one of those installments that had my mind blown from start to finish. I honestly thought I had it all sussed even when elements of the case came to light. But I was so off the mark it was unreal. I must admit I suspect Mckenzie for a second but she clearly is Jo killer after burying a body ad a child. Soo followed the breadcrumbs and still ended up not having a clue. I FRIGGING LOVE IT, it's rare I don't randomly guess someone outrageous but heyho.
As usual I loved reading her budding relationship with Nivk it is just so dam cute. The dance of flirting and friendship it's written so well, need then to get it of soon!! Plus their friendship banter is just great to read although a few comments made by each of them made me laugh so hard.
I will issue a trigger warning talk of forced prostition, a few graphic sex images and of full of sadness. High level members of society entertaining the use of prostitutes, or rather coercing then into sexual activity. It really pulls at your heart strings, and when she finds herself in this huge house during a gentleman's club the description of it and its lay out is so well done I felt I was there.
The case was quite confusing trying to guess who was obsessed enough with Mckenzie to start killing for her with the documentary meant there were so many different suspects for so many different reasons. Like I said I got it so wrong I loved it!
Plus the torment this brought for Mckenzie with constant flash backs to her past was so interesting to read we obviously know about her helping her mother. But you really get to read to about how much guilt she still carries with her, this was further confirmed with more therapy sessions with Andrew.
All in all I absolutely loved this book, If I could give it more than 5* I would honestly!!! I found the prose was written so well and the case wasn't to complex to follow. I also loved the fact that there were so many suspects and no really evidence pointing anywhere. I also think the way the sex ring was brought in was done with so much delicacy and respect. What an amazing book. Roll on the next.
Thank you to Netgalley, Ruhi Choudary and bookouture for the digital ARC in exchange for far and honest opinions.
Talk about a wild ride! I couldn’t stop reading it!
The more the bodies and clues were let out, the more I wanted to know who was doing this and, mostly, why. I enjoyed the other books in this series and while we get a little of a background for Mackenzie, she’s quite an interesting character.
After finding out that all these victims were related to her personal life, Mackenzie went on a hunt and got even more determined to catch the killer.
Fast-paced, intriguing and twisted, this thriller is a must read one for any genre fanatics.
Having been on a literary diet of cop procedurals for a while now, I didn't think twice before nabbing this gem from the Mackenzie Price series.
When Det. Mackenzie Price aka Mad Mack discovers a dead body in the trunk of her car with a personalized message for her, little does she realize that it is just the beginning of a series of crimes, targeting women who have had a beef with Mack. As the Lakemore PD race to solve the murders, they soon uncover an organised crime ring that is somehow connected to the deaths of the women. Mack must hurry to catch the obsessed killer before they hit too close to home.
This was a quick-paced crime investigation that was mired in drama and intrigue. The drama level was slightly more than what is usually found in procedurals, but it was balanced out with the many twists and turns in the plot. Since I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, Mack's history and the dynamics between the various characters were lost on me; though, with just the barebones flashback mentioned in this book, I am certainly curious enough to give the prequels a try.
Det. Mackenzie Price comes with a lot of baggage and demons. The author deals with a horrific crime in this narrative; but to get to it, she has chosen a long-winded route, suspenseful though it may be. I did find certain portions unconvincing - case in point- Mack's letter to Nick that she wrote while in the basement (in a life or death situation) - she definitely wouldn't have had the time, nor would she have been in a state of mind to write such a long letter, that too, one that is so full of platitudes.
Overall, an adrenaline-fuelled ride. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
What a creepy, suspenseful and intense read!!! The Lost Bones is book #5 in the Detective Mackenzie series. Though I have not read the previous books in the series, I didn’t have any difficulty reading The Lost Bones. The author does recap enough to help you know more about Mackenzie. With that said, I am very interested in reading the complete series! Mackenzie aka Mad Mac is one tough detective! She works with her partner, Nick, to solve a case that seems to be full of secrets galore. Be ready for a wild ride of intense murders and unbelievable obsessions! I definitely recommend this series for any suspense thriller lovers! Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I found it hard to stop reading it in between to do my daily tasks (because reading doesn't pay my bills yet).
Detective Mackenzie Price carries the trauma of assisting her mom bury her dad's body after she kills him in self-defense. Decades later, she finds strange murders in her city and she being the only thing common among all the dead. While investigating this case, she happens to rescue a severely injured woman, apparently assaulted. Who's doing all this and why? Who assaulted that woman? I did have a guess in my mind and went awfully wrong.
As someone who has read scores of books in this genre, I can probably say the author is perfect at it. She writes crime with ease. The language, pace and narration are all suitable to the suspense she intends to create. The English is quite simple and works for beginners. The book may be long but take my word that it is worth the time. It felt like reading one of those classic or seasoned crime writers. This is my first book in the series and I had absolutely no gaps in understanding. Hence I am taking a guess that you can pick it even if you haven't read her earlier books.
Must read for all crime fanatics like me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for sending me an ARC on my request. I am posting my review voluntarily.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Ruhi Choudhary, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 9th May 2022.
This is the fourth book I have read by this author and it is the fifth book in the 'Detective Mackenzie Price' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the first book in the series 'Our Daughter's Bones', the third book 'Little Boy Lost' and 'The Taken Ones' which is the fourth book in this series, which I enjoyed and would recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I am also a fan of Ruhi's and loved 'Our Daughter's Bones', 'Little Boy Lost' and 'The Taken Ones' and if this is half as good as they are it is sure to be a great read. It also stated in the synopsis that this book is 'A completely gripping read that will have you on the edge of your seat, this addictive crime thriller is perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.' I am a huge fan of all three of these authors so am looking forward to see if it lives up to this. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 53 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Lakemore, USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonist Detective Mackenzie Price. The benefits of third person perspective especially if omniscient are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'The Lost Bones' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Ruhi discusses/includes sexual abuse. Due to these I would recommend reading age of 16 plus.
Wow, Wow just WOW!!! Ruhi you have absolutely smashed it yet again!! What another explosive book in an epic series!!!!
The whole thing was brilliantly written and filled with in depth vivid descriptions that put me right next to Mackenzie and I was just completely lost in the story. The title, synopsis and cover represented the storyline perfectly.
The description was completely accurate saying it is perfect for fans of Melinda Leigh, Lisa Regan and Kendra Elliott. I would like to add that fans of C. L Taylor and Carol Wyer, Angela Marsons or any other amazing (and my top) authors will absolutely sink their teeth into this!!
The storyline itself had me hook, line and sinker from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat as well as up at night flipping through the pages that I just couldn't put down. I completely absorbed it in one sitting. Packed with suspense, secrets, crime, lies, secrets, twists, shocks and the BIG BANG at the end. I thought I had my suspicions of who was up to what but I was proven wrong and damn lady I DID NOT EXPECT that nucleur ending!!! Where did that come from!!! Just mega wow!!! Completely left me speechless and sitting there with my mouth hanging open like a dog. One event at the end was absolutely heartbreaking and I was very close to tears and during another event I was hoping so badly something would happen but won't say more as not to spoil it for future readers. I could not compliment this book enough, it just had everything!!
WHEN ARE THESE BOOKS GOING TO BE TURNED INTO BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES!!! WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE IT ON THE BUG SCREEN!!!
Although this is the fifth book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
I absolutely loved meeting all the realistic characters again with all their big personalities, strengths and flaws. First time I "met" them I knew I was going to love the characters from the first page and I was 100% RIGHT and they have become like friends that I miss each time I have to wait for the next book!! I thought Mackenzie was a fantastic, strong female lead, always a bonus having a female lead being one myself!! It was also interesting to see her more raw and vulnerable side in this book, well not interesting but hopefully you know what I mean!! Nice to see a strong protagonist at her worse along as her best. Nick was brilliant, a good friend to Mackenzie and with a kind heart, I would love to see their friendship develop into more as they are so perfect for each other!!! Sully makes me laugh with his new hobby every few hours but it is a nice unique trait about him, he also makes a fantastic boss. I enjoyed meeting Andrew in this book and a certain part almost had me in tears. I absolutely LOVE Peterson and his random facts at extremely random times made me laugh out loud on so many occasions, I'm looking forward to learning more from him!! I absolutely love this team and they all worked well with their different personalities. I really cannot wait to read more about them. They were exactly what a good crime book needs, a mix of funny, serious and I just couldn't get enough of them.
Well done Ruhi on another massive success and I hope your busy writing your next book as I for one cannot wait. If not your book then I really hope your getting a movie produced of this fantastic series. People will love Mckenzie. Nick and the rest of the team!!
Some of my favourite quotes/sentences in this book include the following:
😂 "“Remember when I got kidnapped, Daddy? Just think about that before you take things away from me." Out of the mouth of babes 😂 😂
Overall if you are looking for a heart racing, page turning psychological crime that will leave you shocked and demanding more this is the book for you.
Genres covered in this book include Mystery, Thriller, Crime fiction, psychological thriller, and Police procedural. amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, C. L Taylor, Karin Slaughter, Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliott, Melinda Leigh and anyone who has read any of Ruhi's previous books in this series and well jist anyone who is looking for an epic read!!!
332 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle or free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

The Lost Bones is the fifth novel in a series that features Detective Mackenzie (Mack) Price of the Lakemore, Washington Police Department. Many years ago, Mack returned home from school to find her violent dad bleeding excessively on the kitchen floor. She is still in Lakemore working with Detective Nick Blackwood.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Lost Bones with its explosive plot and many twists. The novel is told from Mack’s viewpoint so I was easily able to become immersed in events. Running parallel with the investigation, the novel concentrates on Mack and her complicated personal life using flashbacks to reveal important incidences. The author, Ruhi Choudhary's writing continues to impress me, leading me down certain paths, only to blindside me later. Protagonist Mack is traumatised by her past and she’s to be admired for her open-mindedness and determination. The Lost Bones is a fantastic story, a very compelling continuation to the marvellous series, and I can confidently recommend it as a worthy read.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
It seems, much to Detective Mackenzie Price's dismay, that since her participation in a film about females in law enforcement her fame precedes her. Her popularity in Lakemore isn't universal however, and Mack knows she is also her own worse enemy. Convinced someone has been watching her, following her, even though she has no proof, her fear levels are stretched to the max but they go through the roof when a dead body is found on her property. Realising those with any type of personal connection could be the next target of their unknown suspect there seems no way to anticipate their next move.
Frustrated by a lack of progress and the addition of a profiler to the team Mackenzie has a feeling things will get a great deal worse before anything begins to get better! With an increasing feeling of helplessness Mack finds herself and partner Detective Nick Blackwood up against an invisible force as decisions go against them and they have to consider resorting to methods of detection less acceptable to them than usual.
This is the fifth book in the ever improving Mackenzie Price Mystery Series and is easily the best one so far. Shocking, and revealing in equal measure, with an easy humor between the partners it was an absolute pleasure to read. There was an instance where I thought I was going to be disappointed by the outcome but it was a deliberate ploy and I hadn't been as clever as I thought at all!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is one of the best books I've read this year and comes highly recommended.
I've read one in this series and it was a while ago so it was good to get to the gritty and courageous Mad Mack again.
This time like before Mackenzie seems to be attracting personal attention of the worst kind. Murders are done in her name - by someone who says they do it to those who have hurt her, belittled her or been nasty to her but is causing a lot of flak in the department as well as to Mackenzie herself. She deplores the attention and only wants to be ignored and be part of the team - a position that she can hardly claim to when she seems to be singled out for such a lot of attention.
The investigation is twisted, the clues are indistinct and difficult to read and the danger to Mackenzie herself becomes very real when the murderer starts escalating the violence.
A page turner, with police procedurals in plenty this was a good one.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advance read of this title. Another thrilling read from this series. I love the character development of Mack since the start of the series. I think this is the best one of the series so far. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recommend reading this series from the start.
THIS SERIES JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER I AM OBSESSED WITH IT🥹🥹 Can mad Mack and NICK DARE ALREADY????? ugh I NEED BOOK 6 NOW!!!!!!! What a twisty wild ride this one was🥹
Interesting book. I was not aware of the supernatural overtones. It was a welcome surprise.
Detective Mackenzie “Mack” Price is shocked to discover the body of a woman in the trunk of her car. She pockets the note included with the body. It is a note that says, “You’re welcome Mackenzie.” The victim is someone she knows.
When another body is found, with another note, it is again someone Mack knows. Obviously, this case is very personal.
Mack and her team scour the case and the various clues presented to them. They make little progress, beside becoming more confused. The story gets more creepy as time goes on.
They find a connection to some movers and shakers in the community and uncover a terrible conspiracy.
The identity of the murderer came as a surprise to me. Although, perhaps it shouldn’t have in hindsight.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this creepy book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Lost Bones, the fifth novel to feature Detective Mackenzie Price, set in the fictional Washington State town of Lakemore.
Mack returns from a run to find her boot lid ajar and on investigation finds a dead woman. She recognises her as Sophie Fields, the fiancée of Detective Austin Kennedy, who disappeared two years earlier. Even worse, there is a note for Mack with the body. Then another woman is found dead with a message for Mack and she’s not the last.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Lost Bones, which is another exciting read full of twists and turns and is, in my opinion, the best in the series so far. It is apparent that the unidentified killer feels some kind of affinity with Mack, so the novel is is full of tension and unease, which the author does well as it communicates itself to the reader and makes the novel really atmospheric.
I should point out that the plot is not overly realistic in its totality, but that’s hardly important when it is absorbing and entertaining. It starts with a dead body and a killer’s focus on Mack, but widens into something darker and more horrible, but in keeping with the theme of the series, how far the powerful will go to make Lakemore prosper, be it attempts to stifle dissent or to hide wrongdoing.
The plot runs at a fast pace with developments on what seems like every page. It never flags and had me turning the pages feverishly to see what was coming next. The twists are great, but the final one is the real shocker that I would never have guessed.
The novel is also a kind of coming of age for Mackenzie Price. She has always been self sufficient, walled off emotionally by her guilt over the past and what she had to do. This is explored in the previous novels and I would recommend any reader with a primary focus on character to read the series in order. The stress she feels in this novel pushes her back to that past in her dreams, but it also gives her an understanding of where she’s been and a need to move forward. It’s well done and I look forward to the new Mackenzie Price who will be the same with softer edges, I hope.
The Lost Bones is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
The Lost Bones by Ruhi Choudhary is another in the Mackenzie Price series. To say Mack has a stressful life would be a complete understatement. As has been said of the settings of many mysteries, the place seems to draw murder, gruesome murder, nothing run-of-the-mill. And she always manages to put herself in danger, usually to the brink of death. That being said, she is a likable character, from the outside. Being around her might be a trial. The stories are dark, but accessible and exciting. She and her partner, Nick, are clever and dogged. They never give up and they seem to connect information that seems to have nothing in common and yet draws a big picture, eventually. I thought I had it figured out, but I had gotten drawn into a clever red herring presented by the author and the actual killer. It was all very enticing. I love this series.
It starts simply enough. Months ago a woman had disappeared. Now she's turned up . . . in Mack's trunk, in front of her house. The woman's (Sophie's) fiancé was a police officer that had come to Lakemore as part of his investigation into her disappearance. Now her had found her. Then the murders started coming quickly. And the investigation ramped up and spread out. Evil and powerful men were at the root of it. Kidnapped girls forced into prostitution: they tattooed barcodes onto them to keep track of the. Called for them by number. It gets worse, and Mack is right in the middle of it. What a great book!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of The Lost Bones by Bookoutre, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #bookoutre #ruhichoudhary #thelostbones
Mack gets the shock of her life when she opens the boot of her car to find a dead body. A sinister note makes it clear that the killer has deliberately chosen a personal link to Mack. Then another woman disappears, a person from her past, and Mack is forced to consider why the killer is focused on her... The Lost Bones is the 5th book to feature Mackenzie Price. I have previously reviewed the first four books: Hidden Lake, Their Frozen Graves, Little Boy Lost and The Dying Game. Mack's case is personal again this time. The first victim is dumped in her car and the next is an old school bully. The killer seems to be fixated on seeking Mack's happiness so could it be someone she knows? I love Mack's character. She is strong but also has a vulnerable side due to her experiences in the past. Her dedication to seeking justice is relentless and in this book she has to carefully navigate her personal and professional lives once again. The chapters are quite short which helps to keep the pace swiftly moving along. There are plenty of plot twists and the tension was maintained throughout the book. The book deals with some big and unpleasant issues including sexual exploitation which makes us will Mack on to successfully close the case. The Lost Bones is an enjoyable crime thriller with a great lead character
Detective Mackenzie Price is back with another adventure!!
Detective Mackenzie Price gets a shock when a body of a woman was found left at the back of Mackenzie's car. The body belongs to Sophie who was the fiance of Austin, a colleague of Mackenzie and who went missing almost two years ago. The body was addressed to Mackenzie. Then another woman goes missing and Mackenzie must find who is responsible behind the disappearances.
It was a fast twisty thriller--I was literally hooked into the story from the first chapter till the end. The author has added some supernatural vibe into the story that I almost got goosebumps as I was reading that part. Detective Mackenzie Price seemed to be the target and the book was fast paced, keeping the reader at the edge of the story. Overall, I felt like I was going on a roller coaster ride as I read this one and I actually enjoyed reading the book. Can't wait for the book 6 to come soon!
Overall, this is a twisted fast paced thriller and unputdownable that will keep you at the edge of the seat--worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Being a detective must be great. Looking for the clues and finding them, being able to piece everything together and finally putting a stop to the criminals.
But there are a lot of downsides too unfortunately. Having to deal with finding another victim, being held back by laws when you are certain you have found what or who you were looking for while baddies create their own rules and of course running the risk of being threatened or captured.
Kudos to all those police officers who try and fight to keep us safe.
Everybody has (had) people in their lives they did not like or wished they could make disappear. But you try to avoid that person or move on. What if now someone decides those people should be punished or even worse should be killed?
That is what is happening to Mack, but that’s not the only thing she has to deal with. She and her team and in fact the whole town are in for some nasty and shocking revelations.
I loved this book. I had all my money on one person. Did I become a wealthy woman or am I bankrupt now? You may guess twice… 😉
I think this was my favourite one in the series up till now even though I liked them all very much. 5 stars
Just completed reading the Book 5 in the Detective Mackenzie Price series and it gets much more thrilling and exciting than the earlier books. The author seems to be upping the game with each book.
I had started reading the series from the very first book and it gets more interesting with each new book.
This time a dead body is found in the trunk of Mackenzie's car, with a personal note for her, This starts a deries of events with three more dead bodies with each carrying a message for Detective Price. Why is the killer murdering people and leaving messages for her? Who is the killer? The answer to all these questions lies in the latest book in this series.
The story of finding the killer and also the journey of Detective Mack's self discovery, her memories of the past and her personal journey through her fears is all written very intricately. The past and the present merge well together and make it an absolutely thrilling read.
If you love thrillers with kick ass female cops and also a dash of life lessons then this story is definitely for you. I thank Bookouture and Netgalley for accepting my request to review the book. The opinions are all mine.
This book gave me some "Aberration" by Lisa Regan vibes, which I read just prior to this.
I was sucked in from the first chapter of the book. Some parts were really creepy, because of the supernatural tone, it made the hair on my arms stand up.
Mackenzie Price is a detective in Lakemore, and the book starts with a party celebrating record low crime rates in the town. Well, like we know, one shouldn't speak too soon!
Mackenzie gets called out to a murder scene, notes are left at the scenes or on the bodies for Mackenzie, the killer is obsessed with the detective. The victims have a link to Mackenzie, and the race is on to find the killer before more murders occur.
Influential men are implicated and I loved the twists and turns that made me want to get to the end of the chapter to find the killer.
We fear the supernatural monsters in our minds, but the monsters that are human are far more frightening.
I loved this book and will definitely read more by this author.
Detective Mackenzie Price is known as Mad Mack by her precinct because she’s a tough and honest cop. When she finds a dead woman in the trunk of her car, the search is on to find the killer. We learn the woman is the missing fiancé of Austin, a fellow officer. Mackenzie had been helping with the unofficial case into her disappearance. Soon, another missing woman is found dead with ties to Mackenzie. When more people disappear, the case gets even more complicated. Secrets are revealed with huge ramifications for certain characters. Who is the killer and why is Mackenzie being targeted?
This is my first book by this author and I could not put it down. Although this is book 5 in the series, I didn’t feel lost starting here. The plot was crazy. I would definitely recommend this book. I can’t wait to go back and read the others in the series.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A digital ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and Bookouture. The opinions are my own and freely given. The Lost Bones is the 5th in the Detective Mackenzie Price series. Bodies are found in Lakemore with messages for Mackenzie. A woman is found beaten and catatonic. A mass grave is found in the woods. These are just a few of the mysteries surrounding Mackenzie and Nick, her partner. Then someone close to Mackenzie is abducted and they are on the clock to find them before it is too late. I like the way this book is starting with the prologue that is really towards to the end of the book, to hook you and make you want to finish reading, and boy did it suck me in. I thought about 2/3 of the way in that I knew who the murderer was but I was wrong. If you haven't read Detective Mackenzie Price before, I highly recommend it. Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Ruhi Choudhary.
This is not like any police procedural novel you have ever read before. There is a killer on the loose, who is killing ‘enemies’ of Detective Mackenzie Price. The killer taunts the small-town police force to figure out where the kidnapped victims could be. Chilling personalized messages are left at each crime scene for Det. Price. Someone is watching our Detective. The feeling of being watched was unsettling and unnerving.
Throughout each investigation the weather appears as another main character. Storms arise out of nowhere, mimicking the suspenseful search for each victim. The author deftly uses the description of each rainstorm and windstorm to add tension and touches of creepiness. It is almost like there’s supernatural forces at work.
This book had me reading all night to finish it. If you want intrigue and drama, with twists you will not see coming, then this is the book for you. This is part of a series but works as a standalone novel.
Another exciting chapter in the files of Mackenzie Price. People keep disappearing and leaving message for Mack near the bodies. Tensions are mounting and mack and Nick need to figure this out. Who is doing this ? Why do more and more clues point to the hinky Tombstone? The action was fast paced. There are flashbacks that reveal snippets of Mack’s past that correlate to the plot. Some of the scenes made me suck in my breath and wince. I liked the ending and the possibilities for Mack and another main character. She deserves some happiness. After all, she lives in gloomy Lakesmore! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.
This is the fifth book in the Detective Mackenzie Price series. I have also read and reviewed, Little Boy Lost which is the third book in the series.
This book sees Detective Price looking into the death of woman found in a truck, with a note made out to her.
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to going back to read the others in the series, that I have missed.
This series works well as the author has created believable characters that all work well together, it is always interesting to see how the dynamics within the investigating team work.
The Lost Bones by Ruhi Choudhary is the fifth book in the brilliant Detective Mackenzie Price series and this has been one of my favourite series out there to get your teeth into. This latest book is full of great twists and turns throughout that will leave you dizzy and you will be sitting on the edge of your chair.
Ruhi's books just get better and better
I can't recommend this series enough It's Superb from start to finish.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
This is the 5th book in this series and it is very good. When I received this from NetGalley and realized it was book 5, I went and downloaded the other 4. I am glad I did. You really need to read them in order to truly understand Mackenzie Price. This book is tough because if the subject matter, but done really well. I was really surprised as to who the killer was, and I like that. I like the relationship that Mack and Nick have and hope it becomes more than just a working relationship. I highly recommend this book, the whole series, and look forward to the next on
