Zan Tyler has been a homeschooling mother, lobbyist, political strategist, and media spokesperson since 1984. In 1987, she was honored as the South Carolina Homemaker of the Year. She and her husband, Joe, founded the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools in 1990 and Zan served as its president for 10 years. The governor of South Carolina awarded Zan the Order of the Palmetto—the highest honor a civilian can receive—in 1998.
Zan is the Homeschool Resource and Media Consultant for Broadman & Holman Publishers and the Homeschool Editor for LifeWay.com. Her work appears in a variety of publications, including the prestigious Peabody Journal of Education and the Home School Court Report. She coauthored Anyone Can Homeschool with Dr. Terry Dorian in 1996, and her newest book, 7 Tools for Cultivating Your Child’s Potential, was released in 2005. She has also appeared on NBC’s Today Show with Katie Couric. Zan speaks on a wide variety of homeschooling topics and finds it one of her greatest joys in life to encourage other homeschooling mothers.
This little book wasn’t quite what I was hoping for, but I did appreciate hearing her stories from the early days of homeschooling. I remember what it was like to have to do it illegally and without much support at all, and I appreciate the courage of all the pioneers whose courage helped legalize and normalize homeschooling.
Great reminders of who's really in charge. Introspective questions to provoke thought and action. Achievable suggestions to help your school day as well as personal growth. Gentle reminders of why we are doing what we're doing. Schooling at home and loving our children in the Lord.
This little book is full of insightful wisdom and encouragement for those the thick of homeschooling. I really appreciated the practical advice, emphasis on marriage and God-given community, and scripture woven throughout to keep the reader engaged and reminded to be focused on the Lord.
